Ok, heres where the CMs advice at check in came back to bite me in the butt. She told us it was thee number one attraction in DL and we needed to be there at 9:00 on the dot!! So I made us all get up early, after much, much, much complaining from Buzz. He wanted to sleep in and get there at 9:30. I got us early and insisted we get going.
So we head for DL. Im looking forward to this ride, but as we approached the esplanade, I turn to Buzz and say, I hope this ride is good or Im gonna never hear the end of it, am I? He just smiled at me. First smile of the day. Not a happy one. More of a grimace. He loves Grimace btw.
We get in a line at the gate to get in the park-the lines all looked the same length. Only the other lines start moving and our line isnt moving. The other lines keep moving along and Im imagining all those people going through the gates and heading to Nemo. We stood there for fifteen minutes before Buzz finally jumps ship and heads us to another line.
Hed spotted one that just opened up and as we were heading for it a lady tried to muscle a stroller in front of us. Buzzs GAT tactics mustve been off b/c she made it ahead of us, slowing us down. No worries. I GATed like crazy, getting us to Nemo to see a sign that said 45 minute wait. Yuck. I force us through it and its a death march, believe me. We wait in line 45 minutes. My lower back was screaming in agony. Every now and again, I hunkered down on the ground to relieve the pain. It was brutal. Luckily the kids were great or we couldnt have done it. When we got up closer, I noticed people coming off the ride and not one had a smile on their face. This was not looking good.
We finally get on the ride. Its a little confusing. You line up and then go in kind of like Soarin only on this ride you go in a submarine that is down in the water. We were the last ones in so that meant we were the first ones off. That turned out to be the only good thing about this ride.
The air in was really uh, not fresh. I felt very closed in and didnt like it. For the first time in my life, I started to have a panic attack. When I was pregnant with LA, I was a bridesmaid in a wedding. Two weeks before the wedding, I was making sure my dress fit (with my ever expanding waist line) and I got stuck in my bridesmaid dress!! Buzz was gone so I had to cut myself out of it. Ever since then I seem to have a little bit of claustrophobia.
So for the first few minutes, I stared out my porthole, trying to tell myself everything was ok. By the time we took off, I was over it and the panic was gone.
I thought you got to see fish and things like in the Living Seas. All we saw was the bottom of the tank we were in. Then it started getting really dark and thundering in there. It wouldve been really neat, but this baby started screaming at the top of its lungs. It was definitely scared. Who would take a baby on a ride like that?
To make it worse, they passed the baby to the person sitting behind me (there are 2 rows of seats and you sit with your back to the row behind you) and he put it on his shoulder so it was screaming right in my ear. Trey gets super upset when kids or babies are crying, but fortunately for us, hes getting over that phase or it wouldve been an absolute nightmare!! He only asked once, The babys mad? The baby go to time out? I just said yes and left it at that.
Twenty verrrrry long minutes later, we arrived at the end. I look over and see Buzz. I know what hes thinking. We shouldve slept in til 9:30. This was a horrible experience. Im so sorry we did it. Sorry, Buzz! I look around at some other passengers and I think theyre thinking the same thing. Being stuck in that sub with a screaming baby when it couldve been a slightly fun ride was horrible. I looked behind me at the people with the baby and found there was a large group of them together. So why couldnt one have stayed behind and kept the baby outside? When my kids were babies, I was very mindful of their crying and never did things like that with them. I know it upsets people.
So with that ride being totally ruined and 90 mins of our lives well never get back (which Buzz announced very loudly as we exited our submarine), we head over to do something fun. Space Mountain!! Now that was fun!! We really enjoyed that ride.
We thought about doing Buzz Lightyear again but the kids were pretty hungry so we opted to go find food. We went immediately to that place with the fried chicken that I didnt want to eat at the other day. I gave in and told Buzz to just get me the chicken. I could use the plastic utensils to pick the breading off. After Nemo, I did NOT want to cause any more problems.
I let LeeAndra pick out a table for us. There was not one other customer in the place so we literally had our pick. We sit down and get our napkins. Much to my surprise and delight, there is real silverware-not plastic! So we get our stuff and sit down. With all the empty tables in the place, here comes a lady with a screaming baby and sits right next to us!! Every other table in the place was empty and she sits next to us. I immediately grab our things and get up. Come on. Were moving.
The kids are confused but they follow me with LA asking me why the entire way. We find a place to sit as far away from the screaming baby as we can get. Just then I look in the restaurant, and see Buzz at the check out. He waves me over. Its a ton of food and theres 2 trays so I carry one and lead him to where we are sitting.
This is awesome fried chicken and Im sorry we didnt eat there the other day. It was wonderful. The atmosphere was great! We were in the shade so it was a little cool. But so relaxing. And we were right by the Haunted Mansion which we had planned to ride next.
We finished up and prepared to go get scared.
