hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Dont quite know what to say......

Anyone else NOT like the fact its taller?

I am spooked by the fact that it will be taller too.

I'm confused by WHAT is taller. Is the office building portion taller, or just the "tower" part?

I understand the 'need' to make it taller - an attitude of "you can't defeat us, we'll just rebuild it taller than ever". But I also don't think a lot of tenents will be jumping at the chance to rent office space way up high in these buildings.

But, on the other hand, if the office buildings are actually shorter and the sprial 'tower' thing is what is so tall, that I can totally understand. My co-workers think this is the case, but neither article fully explains it.

Faith, from what I can see and from what I read, it looks/sounds as if only the spire will be taller at 1776 ft (which I think is awfully neat when you think about it)

It's very futuristic looking, isn't it!
I liked both final designs.

it MUST be taller, or at least as tall....to build short would be a permanent morale booster for the Islamists.

The sun will shine on the memorial with no shadow every September 11 from the time the first plane hit to the time the buildings fell. Impressive.

Vanessa, I didn't catch that in the second article (I admit I skimmed it after reading the first) and that is impressive and it really gave me the chills!!!

I don't know how I feel about this. It's like they will build on a cemetery, sort of :(

It is very futuristic in appearance.

I like the idea of the memorial site/ sun shining on Sept 11th. Yes, very well though out and impressive.

Dan. doesn't the diamond shaped top look just like the Stone Container building in Chicago?

I like the fact that the tower is 1776 feet tall, symbolizing our year of independence. I also think the part about the sunlight not casting shadows every Sept. 11 from 8:46 am to 10:28 am will be very touching.

Interesting.

Thanks Dan

I have to agree, that I like the 1776 symbolism. And the fact that the buildings will cast no shadows is amazing. I just can't imagine occupying those buildings though. Would you want to go to the top everyday? I have to admit, not me!

It has a couple of neat points, but I don't really like it or the idea at all.

I don't like it being taller. The idea that "you crush me, I'm now building bigger" idea scares me. I felt that would attract "challenge" from the bad people in the future. I live and work in NYC. I don't want to be attacked again.

Plus, we have already rebuild, gradually. No need for a tall building to validate that.

But, if they have a Windows on the World restaurant up there, I will go. I missed that, and I miss the skyline.

Yes, Jill, it does have that look to it. Very dramatic.

I am sorry but I think that both of the final designs were just awful. But what really has me annoyed is that I feel that only american firms should have been allowed to submit designs. I am aggravated that a german born archiect was awarded the design that won. And with that fact that Germany wont even support the Iraq effort--I don't know, just does not seem right.
