The Wilson's Do DL - final day, final thoughts, finally going back to DL????

Yay! I'm so glad it was helpful.

Did you do a back carry or front? Inquiring minds...

Best memory of the '06 trip was putting E in a front carry (it was late and I thought he was going to nurse and it was easier to do that as we walked in the dark, rather than sit in brother's car making everyone wait), and watching him notice the twinkle lights in the trees in DTD on the way to the tram...he put his arms open wide as he had his head back and said...."diz-knee-waaaand". Ach, I could cry. :goodvibes

I'm impressed you did all you did with THREE kids. I barely function with the one. Probably good our increase-the-family plans haven't worked for 3 years b/c I might not have hair left if another kid were like E! :rotfl:

Now I know you *think* you were wordy, but you weren't. So now start talking about all the little moments, going into detail. If YOU wanted to hear the little things, know that we all do, too.

Molly - I like front carry, dh likes back, so it depends who was carrying!!:)

And I guess I have been married to an engineer too long - just the other night I was typing up the first day, and he looked over at the computer screen and said "no one's gonna read it when it's this long....", so I've been trying to keep to the bare bones and leave out all the personal 'fluff'! i forgot that's what makes it fun to read!! Thanks for the reminder!

And, to be fair, the kids were absolutely amazing, which was why we were able to do so much!

Sounds like you all had an amazing trip. The Winnie the Pooh ride was my DS (19 months old) favorite ride too. That is crazy you didn't have to wait in line to meet Pooh. That was the longest line we waited in our whole trip. Of course traveling with a 3 year old and a one year old, we didn't ride any "big kid" rides.
Cannot wait to read how Goofy's Kitchen went. :yay: Goofy's Kitchen was definitely a highlight of our trip.

You put pictures in!!!!!!! Yay.

OK what are those adorable shoes you have on when Adam met Minnie? A-dor-a-ble. Love them.

I'm loving your report. I love how daring Logan is. And I cracked up at the shoe story. :rotfl2:

Molly - SKECHERS!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Skechers! They were comfy (lasted every day except 1 at the parks in them!), and cute - they have little sequins sewn in on them and embroidered flowers and flourishes - cute and pretty and fun and comfy!

Can you please tell me where this "magic pillar" is?:goodvibes

Magic Pillar - there are 3 light/sound "pillars" set up along Rivers of America for F! they are basically huge frames to hold the lights and speakers for the show - two will be raised up in the air on shiny silver pillars. Another sits on the ground level. This one rises up just before the show, so you have a spot to stand behind the fence with an unobstructed view.

Sorry - I have no pictures (broken camera,   )

Hope I'm not drummed out of the Dis for sharing the secret!:hippie:

Not a new installment - just some thoughts (I'm gonna print this TR off to save for our next trip, so I am leaving myself some tidbits of wisdom here....)

Here are a few of my regrets about this last trip....

being too nanchalant about how much time we had and not doing/trying some things when the opportunity arose.
For example
- not waiting in that long line to try a Mickey Pretzel.
- Not grabbing a skewer at BB, even though it was only 10am
- not taking the time to actually LOOK at my surroundings - I find myself looking at other people's TRs and pics, and thinking - now WHERE WAS THAT? I never saw THAT???

I don't think we actually walked through the castle once when we were there - I was always detouring thru TL to grab FP's for Buzz! I am so ashamed to admit this!

I never got pics of the castle at night, or took any photos on our Late Night Dream event, when there would be few to no other people in them.

In short, I was basically trying so hard to DO everything that I forgot to just sit back and enjoy myself, and I am sure the kids probably feel the same!
Perhaps next trip should involve more days at the park and less intense driving from Mommy!

Those are good thoughts to have!

I've now started making plans for different things for me to notice each trip. For instance, along with it being "the fun trip where I relax and go at E and R's paces", it will also be the "find out about the coffees served and get updated on photopass at the parks" trip. :goodvibes

Hopefully you got a camera that you really like, at Target, so your future trips will be that much more fun for taking pictures!

Sorry for the lull - having preschool board staffing issues - you are now looking at the new president of the board of our local preschool!

Anyhow, we have now reached the Wilson's Day of Rest, as scheduled in the Itinerary Set In Stone!

We "slept in" till about 7 am, snacked on a few items from the Von's delivery (most of which we never did eat!!), and headed off to Goofy's Kitchen for ps's at 9:30. Stopped off at the hotel souvenier shop to pick up a disposable camera to stop me from crying all morning because I had no digi cam to snap pics of every muffin and mickey waffle in sight!!

We found the DLH without much trouble, and grabbed another pressed penny for each boy before heading over to wait for our table. We were told the wait would be just a bit longer, since Pluto was our greeter, and he had to take a short break. So the kids were a bit antsy by the time our names were called. We assembled for our photographer shot with Pluto, then were taken to our table. I was anxious to check out the spread, so after drink service, I offered to collect some plates and food for the kids. With every step lamenting the absence of my digi cam, I surveyed the food offerings. HOLY COW!! I haven't seen a spread that elaborate since my Mom last hosted Christmas dinner! The kids' favorite was the soft ice cream station, my favorite was the fresh fruits and yogurts.
Returning to the table, we saw Goofy, who was great with the kids. Logan wasn't interested, but Adam was totally into the interaction part. Allie was cautious, but as long as he stayed across the table from her, she was happy! He wrote a special message to the boys on the paper tablecloth wishing them a happy birthday - it was very cute (sorry - no pic - have to develop disposable camera!) On my travels back to the buffet (I was basically the "food fetcher" the entire trip, including buffets - at least dh got his own food this time, which was different than usual! ) I noticed the following characters:
Goofy (of course)
Chip and Dale
Mulan
Alice

Sad part - only characters we SAW - Goofy (3 separate times) and Alice (once, and I wasn't even at the table!!! ) So basically, I was dissatisfied with the variety of character interaction, but, to be honest, Goofy was really who they wanted to see, anyway! Mulan they don't even know, and they saw Chip and Dale the previous day. I was kind of cranky that day about the fact that we saw less than half of the characters, but now, stepping back from it, the experience was still fabulous and the special attention from Goofy was just amazing! However, the food - variety, quality, etc... was second to none. I can honestly say it was the best buffet I have been to.

After stuffing ourselves, and getting our special cupcakes and Goofy's Birthday buttons, we headed off to the Lego store to reward the boys for their fabulously great behaviour over the past 3 days. They each picked out a Lego set, and we chose a small grab bin from the cool display in the back (LOVE that area - so much fun!!). On the way back to the hotel we cooked up how we were gonna get me a new camera! I stopped in at the DLH Guest Services desk, since we were right there, and asked for a map and distances to the nearest Target or Wal-mart. On the way back to the hotel I checked the map and directions, and stopped in at the front desk of the Camelot to check on bus schedules and routes. The bus decision was made because:
1) I wanted to have a say in which camera I got, but dh didn't trust me to pick it out on my own
2) cabs and 3 kids needing carseats would have been a NIGHTMARE
3) dh and I have both used bus transit a great deal in our lifetimes, and felt confident we could navigate a straight line 5 minute bus ride!

So we regrouped at the room for a bit, threw Allie in the Ergo and headed across the street to meet our bus. Waited about 10 minutes, checked with the driver to make sure we were going the right way, and we were off! Uneventful ride, got to Target, fooled around with the cameras, setting off the security alarms every 5 seconds (the Nikon didn't like to be touched!!), and finally picked one out after about 25 minutes. Then off to buy Little Einsteins, Backyardigans and Cars Fruit snacks (which we can't get here ) and multicolored Goldfish crackers (which we also can't get!!)
We packed up as much as we could into the backpack and headed back to meet the bus. As we approached the intersection we needed to cross we noticed our bus also waiting to cross! So I grabbed the bags and Logan (who runs faster) and left Neil to run as best he could with Allie on his back and Adam in tow - I figured if I got there first I could 'hold' the bus for my hubby and kids!:) We made it by the skin of our teeth, and had a quick and uneventful ride home. Back to the room to unpack and nap and charge my new camera battery! There was a tense moment when I searched the box for the cord to plug the charger into the wall and couldn't find it....ARHG:eek: But then turned over the charger and found a flip out prong to plug it directly into the wall - whew!

We ate dinner at IHOP, simply because none of us has ever been to one before! Kids ate NOTHING, but got cool balloon animals made for them! We shopped at the hotel souveneir shop next door and then went home to play in the pool and get a good night's sleep, since it was an early day to come!

Stay tuned for Sunday - second last day at parks. Will Carmen be able to keep her word that the kids get to "drive" the last 2 days. Will she be able to let go? And, more importantly, will she learn to use her new camera??

Ok, here goes - Sunday - last day of "Open early, close late" park hours, last chance for fireworks or DEP.

We spent a while on Saturday trying to decide what to do - our "Itinerary Written in Stone" didn't really extend to our last 2 days, so I was feeling a little lost without a definitive plan! We made sure to ask the kids what their favorite rides were, so we knew which ones to ride again. Logan - basically everything! I went through the rides list on the map, and every ride was a "yes". So that really didn't help!:lmao: Adam really only wanted to ride Star Tours and Buzz again, and watch the "mae mae (his name for McQueen since he was 14 months old)" parade again. We also went through a map and checked off anything we had already done, so it was visually easy to see whatever we missed and might want to do before we leave.:sad2:

So we were at the gates for opening around 7:30, gates opened at 8 (no rope drop), and we headed left, for Indy. They wanted to check out Tarzan's Treehouse, so we wandered around there for a bit - the park was still empty, so it was pretty nice at that time.

IMG_0042-2.jpg

Sorry - still learning to use my new camera here, so a few pics are not what they should be....
Once we were done, Ds wasn't sure if he wanted to ride Indy or not, so we headed off to do Splash first, since he really wanted to do that one again. Which of course, was fine with Adam and Allie, because they got to do Pooh for the umpteenth time!! It was a tie, by the end of the trip, which one we rode more - Pooh or Buzz!!:woohoo: I think it was something like 15 times for both!!! On the way, Logan asked what that "big old spooky house" was - of course, the HM! We figured since Adam did POTC without being scared, maybe HM would be ok too, and I kind of wanted to see what all the hoopla was about, so we went on in. I rode with Adam and Allie, and I just hugged them both tight and kept chattering on - no one really seemed scared! Adam thought the hitchhiking ghosts were cool at the end - he kept looking for it as we got out of the car!

IMG_0045-1.jpg

So then Logan and Dad rode SM twice - went right around again since there was no line, and we rode Pooh twice - again, no line! I drooled in the candy store for a while, we got more pressed pennies, and Allie picked out a shirt with Pooh on it, which she then had to carry with her for hours!

Dh finally noticed the Pressed Penny wallets (I saw them, but thought they were more autograph books, so I passed them by!:headache: ), so we picked up one of those, and Logan had a great time that evening gathering up his and Adam's pennies and putting them into the slots.

By then, Logan had decided he wanted to try Indy, so he and I headed there together (first big person ride I got to ride the whole trip!!) while dh took Allie and Adam back to the Treehouse to kill time. We used our FP's, but I was still surprised by the length of the wait - and the queuing line - the Unofficial Guide wasn't kidding when they said the line lead to the Santa Monica Pier and back!!

IMG_0069-1.jpg

I loved the efforts they made to make everything look authentic - the work the designers went to making the queuing area interesting and fun for those waiting in line is unbelieveable! Only at Disney....
Ds kept telling me to stop touching things, or something was going to break or collapse or crash! The actual ride itself wasn't as much of a hit with him - I guess it kind of scared him, because he said he didn't want to ride it again with Dad when we got out. Fun for me, though - I was glad that I got to ride it, since it was the only adult type ride I got to go on!

By then it was 10:00, and since we still hadn't seen PHD, and that was Adam's second most important thing (after the PPP), we decided to get there early, since it had been cancelled twice already during our trip! We hit Buzz on the way out of the park (ok, so it isn't really on the way, but since it was their favorite ride, out of the way was ok!) Then Adam saw Star Tours, and had to go. So Allie and I sat at the benches outside the Star Trader and waited. I started snapping pics, and noticed a lady excitedly hugging another lady in a uniform along the walkway between the Little Green Men store and the Tomorrowland Terrace. Allie and I decided to go in for a closer look, and encountered another member of the Dream Team!!:woohoo: We got 2 more Dream FP's, one for Allie and one for me. I explained to the lady that there were more members of our party who were currently on a ride, and she very kindly but firmly said "you need to be here to win, but we will be around for a few more minutes, so bring them over if their ride is over soon." So, a bit disappointed and a lot excited, we sat down to wait, hoping ds's and dh would get off the ride really soon. Unfortunately, 3 minutes later the DT left, and 10 minutes after that, my boys came back!:guilty: But in all honesty, Adam is too small for most of the FP rides, especially in DCA, so the FP's wouldn't be much use for him, so we handed them over to Logan and Dh, who would probably use them the most.

Then we headed to PHD in DCA. The show was adorable - we were near the end of the line, but it wasn't really a big deal. We got a spot close to the aisle, so the kids had an ok view anyway. Adam had a great time 'pat pat pat' ing with the Little Einsteins - he had the biggest grin on his little face - it really was priceless!

IMG_0105-1.jpg

Allie's favorite was the Pooh portion - especially when we all blew to help get Roo's kite down from the tree, and a ton of tissue paper leaves blew out from the ceiling and fell down around us! She squealed and clapped and caught leaves....it was adorable!

Afterward, we decided to do Monsters one more time, and while we were in line played a game of peek a boo with Holiday Mickey who was behind a screen of bushes over by the Hollywood Backlot. After the ride, we headed over to the backlot to see what other characters might be there - sure enough, Mickey was there, and so was Handy Manny!

IMG_0133-1.jpg

Very exciting for my Ds - we were one of the last few to get to see him before his handler moved him on, so we were lucky.

We stopped by the Farmer's Market to grab lunch, and dh noticed Atta greeting next to Bountiful Valley Farm, so Adam went to get an autograph and picture. Allie LOVED Atta (again, from a distance, not close up)!

IMG_0139-1.jpg

Then we did the bakery tour, and Logan was very unimpressed that we didn't get to watch the bread dough riding around the belt on the ceiling like the movie showed - he figured it should be just like the movie!
We stopped by the SS Rustworthy for a quick play, but no one was really hot, so they didn't really want to get wet. Then we snagged FP's for Mulholland Madness and went back to the hotel for naps.

Headed back to DCA for the parade around 5, Logan and Dh rode MM (Logan's new fav ride!). It was getting a bit cool, so we headed back to DL for a couple more rounds of Buzz, and since it had been a long day, we headed back to the hotel for a swim and early bedtime.

Sounds like you all had a fantastic trip. Your kids look like they had a marvelous time!!

Do you have a picture of your little ones playing peek-a-boo with Holiday Mickey? I would love to see it!! That really souncs too cute.

Sorry - I should qualify. The peek a boo game was mostly played by Mickey - he was about 100 ft away behind some bushes, and he would part the branches and peek out at those in line @ Monsters Inc. The kids and I would wave and whoop when he'd peek out, but as soon as I got the camera out, he stopped playing.:sad2: Guess I should have been quicker on the uptake!

This is an adorable TR- lovin it! :3dglasses

Got any advice for me over on my pre-trippie? Link's in my siggie- when you have a minute.

Oh ya, and thanks for clearing up the pillars for the F! viewing... someone else described them as 'towers' and I couldn't get a visual- but shiny, silver frames holding lights and speakers is pretty clear! :thumbsup2

Your kids are too cute.

Really enjoying your trip report, sounds like you had a great time, my kids will be similar ages when we go, so its interesting to see how you spent your days:)

So do you stand behind the one on the ground level? Is that in the middle? Any other tip about that? Thanks in advance.

Quick question- could Logan go on Indi? The height requirement is 48" but it's not clear if they can ride with an adult.
