Hi There-

Has anyone used Miss Jenny's In-Room Dining for breakfast or dinner? What did you think of the food? Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

One week to go!! We can't wait!

I haven't stayed at WL yet but I read on this thread that you can order from the Artist Point/Whispering canyon for in room dining.

I know last year at the GF we oredered from Narcoosee a couple times. It was nice since you didn't need to be there for a certain ADR time and the In room dining on dining plan includes the 18% gratuity, so it was a great use of credits.

We will be there around the same time.

Although I've only stayed here one night, my DH and I ordered western omelettes and were very impressed. The food was really hot and good and the service was speedy. We still talk about how good that breakfast was :goodvibes.

I can't decide. I put in a pretty basic room request (inner courtyard 4th floor or higher) but would really like to get it. Does it increase or decrease chances of getting room requests with on-line check in? I don't really think a long wait will be an issue since we are checking in early in the morning. So other than decreasing wait time in line or increasing chances for getting room requests, is there really any other advantage for on line check in? If i do on-line check in and do not receive a room that fulfills my request, do I still have the opportunity to ask for a different room? I don't know why I get so stressed out about this! I always feel sick until I find out what room we have!

I was curious about the same thing. Does using online check in increase or decrease your chance for a complimentary upgrade?

We just returned today from a fantastic short trip to Disney's Wilderness Lodge. This was my first time at the WL and I was so impressed. The theming was amazing and I fell in love with the overall atmosphere of this resort. In fact it's a new favorite. Past stays have been at CR, Poly, GF, CSR, and the Swan & Dolphin. If the rooms were a little nicer it might even beat out GF, my current all-time favorite, and I would say it's a tie with the Poly. I still need to stay over at the YC and perhaps that will be next? I can tell already I will love that resort as I'm a nautical person. Back to WL, I loved the grounds. It was hard to believe you were in Florida, as it felt like the Pacific Northwest. The moss trees were my favorite, and they really added to the rustic feel of WL (although perhaps not typical in the Pacific NW?).

Everyone could not have been nicer, and this was without question the least busy I have ever seen WDW. I loved it! No crowds, no waits for restaurants, no advance dining reservations necessary, and the CM's were the most friendly I have seen them. They were all so happy that the holiday rush is over, they were more relaxed and actually had time to chat with you. It was very refreshing.

Ok. Now for the icing on the cake. We booked online direct through WDTC just six days before departure. We got a great deal, but only booked the "standard" view which I knew was the parking lot, roof tops, or service area. Not very appealing. We checked in online. We also didn't arrive until about 8:30pm as we drove up late from Miami. After reading these boards many have mentioned that all the good rooms are taken the later you check in, and some have mentioned that online check-in also limits you. Nothing could have been further from the truth in our case. We went to the online check-in area and the CM was very talkative and provided us with our packet. She saw me using the Foursquare application on my iPhone and we started chatting about it. I finally got around to asking her if our room was any good? She looked it up and didn't say anything, which told me right away it wasn't a great room. She started playing around in the computer and next thing we knew she upgraded us to Courtyard View, sixth floor, the very end room overlooking the pool, grounds, Bay Lake, the Contemporary, and we could even see the fireworks! It was amazing! So it just goes to show you it pays to ask and it also pays to be nice and friendly with the CM's. FYI our room was 6165. I highly recommend it, but be prepared for a walk as it's the last room in the corridor.

One thing I have come to realize are the rooms themselves at Disney are not that great (except maybe the Grand Floridian). I mean compared a Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton which Disney's Deluxe Resorts are comparably priced, they are a bit of a let down. As much as I loved the WL, the room was just ok. The toilet and bath tub area really need to be redone, and perhaps the beds and walls could be spruced up too. The carpet seemed pretty new and there was a flat panel TV. There was some cute theming in the room, but it was pretty basic. Did this disappoint me? No, because I know I am paying for the location, the Disney service, the convenience, and the wonderful theming of the resort itself.

Attached is a link to some pictures and I've also placed a few previews on this thread. Unfortunately I forgot my camera so they are all taken with the iPhone which is not the best quality. Hope you enjoy!

Anyone know what the bus time from WL to Hollywood Studios around 1:30 pm in the off season is?? We land at the airport at 11:30 and are taking ME straight to the resort. We have a 2:30 lunch F! ressie that day and I am really not sure if we can pull it off!! Any insight you all have to offer would be great! Thanks!

I found out when i pulled up the reservation the day before on the Disney site.

So keep checking there!!

Brian
so how could you tell by looking at your reservation? ...was it changed from the room type you booked to an upgraded room?

It's been a while since we were @ WL, and a coworker asked me a question, maybe someone can help me with it. My coworker is traveling with her DH and two teen DSs. She was asking if you could fit a twin size air mattress in the room, so the two DSs don't have to share a bed. When I stayed we had a pack n play for my little guy but I couldn't picture putting a twin mattress there. Has anyone done this?

Thanks!

I have not stayed at WL (yet!) but have used online check in at the Poly. It was a great experience each time. All of my requests were honored. I don't know for sure if it will increase your chances but I think it does. Here's my theory - If they are assigning rooms, I would suspect they would start with the folks that have used online check in (because they are already checked in and it's not likely the reservation will be cancelled or a no-show). So if you start with a set amount of rooms and start dwindling them down using the online check in folks, you may not have those room types left for the rest of the reservations. This is just my opinion and based on my many years of assigning rooms at a Marriott. I in NO way have any knowledge how Disney does it!

Thanks for the review! It makes me feel good that someone else that likes the Poly likes WL. It will be our first time at WL. I've always wanted to stay at WL but for different reasons, we've gone elsewhere. But it's always nerve-wrecking to try out a different resort. So thanks!

Does anyone know how long the hot tubs by the main pool are going to be down?

I can't believe the hot tubs are down! I called a week ago and was supposedly transferred to someone at WL who told me they were "definately not down." She was irritated when I asked if she was sure and told me that she would know!

I would have switched resorts last week if I had known this - it may sound silly, but my DD and I carefully chose this resort and those hot tubs by the lake (hot and hotter :goodvibes) were part of the reason we chose WL. I know there's a hot tub at the villas, but this was not our choice.

I know better than to trust CM's on phone calls, but I feel somewhat aggravated by the lack of information. If she wasn't sure, why did she tell me that? I guess I just feel let down that she didn't check with somebody - she was very dismissive.

We aren't leaving for 3 more weeks, but I"m not sure who to trust at this point :confused3. I think I may try to get an AP rate somewhere else.

Sorry for the rant - those who know me on the DIS, know I don't usually do this - I just feel so frustrated at this moment. (I may feel better in an hour or so :goodvibes). Thanks for listening!

...good day, to all my fellow 'original' Lodgers ~
Hope everyone is enjoying 2011 and gets to visit WL this year! BTW ~ y'all can check out my newest trippie (link in my siggie - last one)...

I'll say that the work looked quite extensive. I doubt they will be up for a while. It looked like they were not only replacing the pipes, but had dug out a trench and were replacing pipes. The geyser was also not erupting because of the construction.

Wish I had better news to share. You can see the construction in eroller's pics.

Thank you Brian! It was that picture that prompted me to call back this weekend. They said the hot tubs will be down until Feb. 18 which is after our trip :sad1:. I made the sad decision to swith to AKL - which actually makes my teen daughter quite happy since this was her first choice all along. I'm still grieving WL - the boat, the lake, the theme, etc. Hopefully I'll be able to book a trip here in the future - maybe a trip with DH :goodvibes.

On a positive note, I got the best CM I've ever had on the phone when I switched my resv. He was helpful, kind, and knowledgable. Just the right combo. He looked at all code options and found us something that made sense.

I'm thinking of doing a split stay with AKL next trip, but already grieving the couple days away from the lodge. Let me know what you think once you are back.

We leave tomorrow for our 1 week stay at the WL! Although we're a little sad about the hot tubs and the geyser, we are still super-excited about our trip! We've been to Yellowstone, and I have to say that the pictures make it look like Disney has done an excellent job replicating some of the natural elements of a National Park. Did the online check-in, and it looks like we're still at Courtyard View (that's what we booked). We didn't request anything other than a king bed, so we'll see where we end up. I will definitely report back to this thread about our trip and hopefully post a few pics!
