The who's going in August thread

Does Disney refund your trip if there is a huricane during your stay?
I forgot when I booked my vacation that it was the begining of huricane season!!!
I was so busy worrying about the heat. I guess the heat is do-able but terrential huricane rains and wind gusts may throw a wrench in the plan!

Like the last poster said...I wouldn't count on it. That's mother nature. We are in the same situation since we are flying down there on Monday. All we can do is hope that the Storm takes a different track or fizzles out or it's doesn't strengthen. Cross your fingers and hope for the best.
Looking on the positive side usually after storms like that pass by there is good weather afterwards. Let's just hope the storm is not that bad. There's nothing we can do about it.
Good Luck!!!:)

I leave friday - I am not worried about the storm - from what I have read it is the Keys that are to be hit. I read nothing about Orlando. Think Positive all!

Hey Nickunited we leave Tues so there will be fellow NYers at the AKL.

OK, here is my silly question: If you purchased trip insurance wouldn't Disney give you a refund if you couldn't go because of the hurricane? If we weren't able to leave I think (and it is awful to say) I would be oddly relieved because I am terrfied of getting on the plane.

Hopefully, the storm will pass quickly.

Check the Orlando Sentinel for updates.

From what I was told from the CRO. Trip insurance only covers you up until the balance due date. Meaning 45 days out, you have to have the trip paid up. After that you cannot change your mind and get your money back.

So, I have an AP rate meaning I will pay the rest when I arrive.

Wait, I had friends who was supposed to go in Feb 2003. Couldn't get out of NY because of snow. They got everything back and rebooked for May.

Also, I just heard on the news that Jeb Bush declared a state of emergency for ALL of Florida.

jaded - by the time you leave - both storms are to pass. One of the storms will be in the Carolinas on Friday when I leave. the other will be in the Gulf but Orlando should have rain and wind.

I leave here at 3pm and expect to land in MCO at 6. Hopefully no delays. I am actually more worried about the weather up here. It looks like it is going to rain straight through the next couple of days. We shall see.

Jaded - maybe we will run into each other! I have savannah room! = ) I hear all great things about it!

Nickunited,
Look for the 10 year old in a Mets shirt.

We stayed at AKL last summer and my boys LOVED it. There is so much going on there and it was very relaxing even with two boys.
We booked a standard last year and were upgraded to pool view. This year I booked a pool view.

One of the best things about AKL: REAL coffee.

jaded - I work in Manhattan - the only thing I think of with Real Coffee is Starbucks! LOL

I should see you - I can notice a Mets shirt from anywhere.

Im glad you liked it. I hear such great things!

jadedNYer,

Yikes... state of emergency. We leave Saturday, and will be driving into Florida on Sunday night.

Also, as for the trip insurance, what I have found on these boards and by calling WDW that CM's are not on the same page. They often seem to give conflicting information. I guess we won't know until it happens, which hopefully for our sake it does not.

The CM that told me that could have been a Yankee fan anyway (just kidding you pinstripe fans! Have to bring up a little Mets/Yankees rivalry when I can. Being a Red Sox fan, I am a half-brother with any Met's fan.)

Half Brother - Priceless! True though!

Dont worry right now - much can happen in 24 hours and even more in 48 hours. I feel confident that this storm will not stay on the course they are projecting for today!

I don't know what scares me more - the hurricane or LaGuardia.

Of course, if I were already at WDW there is no better place to be stranded than AKL.

AH! LGA - that is where I am leaving out of.

It should be interesting getting down there!

Moving this up.

I am wondering about those who are leaving or were supposed to leave but were unable to because of the hurricane. What are your plans? We are on American which does not seem to be as generous as some other airlines with their hurricane rebooking policy. Perhaps this will change later today.

We are supposed to leave Tuesday and I imagine that many are stranded in WDW.

I read on orlandoweather.com that all terminals at MCO sustained some amount of damage. I am not exactly sure what to do.

We are due to leave this Thurs. 8/19 very early in the am. We are driving, not flying so I have no info on airlines. Are you planning to leave at your scheduled time? I'm not sure yet, want to see what happens with the clean up. We are staying @ Fort Wilderness, and there is no news on that resort yet. We're all kepping our fingures crossed here.:sad1:

We are driving down in 2 weeks. Hope everything will be ok by then. My heart went out for those who lives down in Florida.

We too are to fly on Tuesday. The Orlando Airport should be open tomorrow some time with limited use. This is what southwest said on their site...

We are a family of 5 flying SW hope-fully on Wed. 8/18 right behind the last family of 5 who posted. Sure hope SW gets us there....Wonder if there will be SHORTER lines at wdw or LONGER lines? Any input outthere......

Just needed to see how long before we leave! Having a hard time concentrating at work and trying to get things done!! See you all soon Simbaru and family!!!!

Same here - very hard to concentrate - starting to get that "vacation mode" feeling. Started packing and making last minute list/purchases of what to bring and what to do.
