The Whirlwind Trippers Tell It Together -A Magical Goodbye! *NEW* PG 4! w/pics pg 4

I see.

COULD you POSSIBLY go to Disney MORE? Then you do?

Me(l) said, "I don't believe so".

COULD you have a BETTER idea? Then to do it in this format?

Me(l) said, "I don't believe so".

I was wondering if next time I could tag along and we could do:

He Said, She Said and Mel's Sad!

Now... then... answer together: "I don't believe so".

I'm in.

Cheers, M.

More Tonight Perhaps...

Excellent start Mark and Rhonda!

Love the new format too!

Woo hooo!!! A new WW Trippers report. I just popped in on the Trip Report forums, wishing for a new Whirlwind trip report and voila! Hmmm. Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket. :p

I'm glad y'all live close enough to make those whirlwind trips so those of us (read: me) can read about them when we need a WDW fix. We haven't been to the World since January and I am SO ready to Go Back Now. I've tried to talk DH into moving to Macon so we, too, could do the whirlwind thing but he isn't buying it. Yet.

Anyway. Great start and I'm looking forward to the next installment!

Very cool idea guys. I love both of your individual reports so this should be great!

LOVE IT YOU GUYS!!!!!
I can't wait to hear more.

Especially about the time when you met two very special people.

Day 2 - He said...

We arrived on Thursday evening. Having never stayed at the Caribbean Beach resort before, we weren’t totally certain what to expect. That is one big mamma jamma! We checked in – with no wait at all. And headed to our room in Jamaica – 4119. Here’s where a couple of things went wrong. First, only 1 of our keys worked. The last key finally worked and when I opened the door, I knew something wasn’t right. We had requested a nonsmoking room – and it had that little no smoking emblem on the front. But when the door opened, you could tell that someone had smoked in there – it stunk.

I know many people who smoke. And I thought about saying here, no offense to smokers. But dadgummit, I am not going to. (Tink – I still love you!) I can’t stand the smell of cigarette smoke. It kills my allergies. I know I’m not supposed to offend smokers cause they’ve had their ‘rights’ ripped away and can’t smoke in public places, etc. But dadgummit, what about my rights huh? Why can’t I be offended when I have paid for a supposed non smoking room and I walk in and it reeks of cigarettes? I hate that crap. If you have to smoke, please do it in designated smoking rooms and areas. Don’t make me die early from having to breathe in that crap.

Okay rant over. For now. More comes later. About this.

So when we go in, I tell Rhonda I’m going to request a different room. She didn’t want to go through the hassle, and she thought it smelled like something but not cigarettes. I know that’s what it was. I have a really good sniffer. I can smell cat pee from a mile away. I can smell cigarettes too. I checked out where it was coming from. I smelled the beds – which would have been an immediate cause for a new room, cause it really does kill my allergies. The beds didn’t stink – big plus. The cause of the smell was twofold – the walls and the carpet. Yes, I know, I am a moron. I actually smelled the carpet and the walls. They stunk. Like cigarettes. Yuck! Rhonda still didn’t want to change rooms, so we left it at that.

We unpacked our stuff and got ready to go to the Magic Kingdom – it was extra magic hours after all. (I had checked that morning on the web site). On our way out of the resort, we stopped back by check in to get new room keys. Wesley’s worked, mine and Rhonda’s didn’t. When I explained the situation, the desk person told me we must have had them near a cell phone cause that it the only reason why they would have gotten demagnetized. I told her I didn’t think we had, but that we would be more careful. It was then that I grabbed a times guide and realized I hadn’t totally read the EMH thing. EMH had been that morning. There were no EMH’s that night – anywhere. Big ol’ frown!

But no biggie, we decided to go to Epcot and eat something quick and then call it an early night. Dinner was at the Mexican Cantina. Food was okay. Nothing great, but it wasn’t bad either. Just average. Rhonda had nachos, and I had the wet burrito. Wesley ate PB&J.

We headed back to the resort to go to bed early, plus it looked and sounded as if it was about to pour. When we got to the room, we found another little problem. Rhonda’s key worked, mine and Wesley’s didn’t. What is up with that, huh? We did not have the cell phone with us that time, so I know it wasn’t that. I headed over to the place with the food court etc. (forgot what it was called) while Rhonda got Wesley ready for bed. The cast member there told me the same thing. It was our cell phone. I tried to explain that we had left the cell phone in the room and that it must have been something else. But, I don’t think she believed me. When I got back to our room, all 3 keys worked. Good enough.

Wesley went to sleep around 10 or so. He was a little wound up. Rhonda was not too far behind him. I, however, had made the mistake and listened to my wife when she recommended a book for the trip. She had read this particular book and said it was a total page turner. I took it with us. She was right. I stayed up til around 2:45 when I finally finished it. I am such a moron!

We were awakened by that awful message from Mickey and Stitch at 6:15. Please Disney, get rid of the Stitch stuff. I felt as if I had just cut off the light. But, it was my own stupidity. I awoke with a full pair of sinus cavities from the cigarette smoke. Lovely, huh?

We got ready and headed out to the Magic Kingdom for a little surprise for Wesley boy. As you probably know, Disney has started having an extra hour on select mornings designed for toddlers. They open Fantasyland and have the characters from the rides available for pictures and the occasional ride along. It’s good on several levels – 1) not too many people take advantage. 2) The kids get some special interaction with the characters etc. Its pretty neat I think.

SO when we get there, the streets are empty. Our plan was to be there for the hour and then head to Epcot for the rest of the day. As soon as we entered Fantasyland the Disney research mob was there asking for folks to volunteer to be a part of a focus group. They were offering 50 disney dollars for an hour of our time to discuss something. I really wanted to do it, cause I thought it would be cool. But it would have changed our schedule, left Rhonda and Wesley by themselves (this is a family vacation after all) and I just didn’t think it would be a good idea. So I said no. Then Rhonda said she thought it might be worth the 50 bucks. SO I did it. I was supposed to be there about 15 minutes after the toddler hour. We got to see Snow White and rode Peter Pan with no wait whatsoever.

In the process of this however, Wesley informs us that he doesn’t want to see any characters. He just wants to ride rides. That’s fine. But we knew it just wasn’t true. For some reason, it takes him a little while to adjust. Even though he’s been to Disney enough times that he knows how each of the characters poses, he still takes a good half a day to admit wanting to hug all the furry people and princesses, etc. It’s kinda funny really. He doesn’t mind seeing the fur characters pretty early on. But the face characters that actually talk back intimidate him at first. So we try to encourage him etc., and ride rides in the process of it.

We hit all the Fantasyland biggies, and were headed back to do Peter Pan again, but happened by Snow White. She was still out there, but this time Dopey was there. Wesley has only seen Dopey a couple of times and always wants to see him, so we stopped. At just the right time, apparently. It was time for them to ride again with some children and as magic would have it, Dopey grabbed Wesley’s hand and pulled him onto the ride. I think Wesley was a little hesitant at first, but then he got into it and enjoyed it. Another little girl sat on the other side of Dopey and I think two kids rode with Snow White. How cool is that, huh? He’s ridden Peter Pan with Wendy, The Barnstormer with Goofy, and now the Snow White ride with Dopey. Way cool stuff! And just the beginning of the magic!

At this point, it was about time for me to head to the special Fed Ex room (or something like that) on the side of Space Mountain. As we checked in we had to sign a waiver stating that all ideas and things shared would become the property of Disney. I must admit that there was a part of me that thought, “What if I have a really great idea that would make Disney tons of money - and I won’t even get a cut from it?!?” But I signed anyway. We were paid our 50 Disney dollars up front, even though the paper we signed said we would be paid at the end.

At this point, I still didn’t know what the focus of the focus group was to be. We got inside and there were refreshments available and room for the 8 of us that were going to participate. Here they asked us to not share the topic of discussion, or any other information from the meeting, on the internet, etc. They said we could tell the groups we were traveling with, but just to not post it on the internet. We all agreed. That was then. This is now. So here goes.

We started talking about *&^%(!@#*&^$!@#()%^&$#@! (censored by Disney) Just kidding. I said I won’t tell and I won’t! Let me just say that I thought it was really neat, and if given the chance again for 50 Disney Dollars, I would probably do it.

I met back up with Rhonda and Wesley outside Space Mountain and we then headed over to Epcot.

Some amazing things were going on here. First – we waited in a very long line at the bag check behind a woman with a portion of butt cheek hanging out of her shorts. Now people, what is it with folk who like to wear these things? At Disney for crying out loud. I can understand Six Flags maybe, or even Universal. But at Disney? Come on! Rhonda and I laughed about taking a picture to post on here, but trust me – it would not have been pretty! I mean it’s one thing if you’re J Lo or something. But J Lo she was not!

Next, once we got inside the park, all that crowd disappeared. Either that or that was all for the day and the 50 of us in line there spread out through the rest of the park. It was pretty empty that day (insert secret wooo hooty yell and do the running man all at the same time!)

I headed off for Test Track to get fastpasses and was to meet up with Rhonda and Wesley at the character connection. Fast passes secured, I found my family enjoying seeing several characters. By this time, Wesley had lost his aversion to them and was getting a kick out of seeing them. Yet again!

I failed to mention something. When I got the fastpasses we were given a special surprise fastpass – to Mission Space. How cool is that? I have since heard that happens on occasion if there aren’t many folks on a particular ride. I don’t know how that works, but I explained to the cast members that we wouldn’t be riding Mission Space – Rhonda doesn’t like the spinning thing, Wesley is too small, and I think that ride just isn’t that great - even if Mel thinks it is. I asked if we could swap them for something else. They said they didn’t think it was possible, but perhaps I could take them to Soarin’ and maybe they wouldn’t say no. So after the character connection we walked over to the Land and asked if we could swap our mission space fastpasses. The fellow there explained that we would have a 10 minute wait tops for Soarin’ and perhaps might even walk on, and wouldn’t need the fastpasses. Cool beans, right?

We started down that big queue expecting to find a crowd at each turn. But we didn’t. We got all the way to the ‘concourse’ and had to stand through one ride before we got on. How cool is that? Virtually no wait for Soarin’!

It was then time for our lunch reservation at the Rose & Crown. This is Rhonda’s pick. She likes British food. I don’t dislike it, but there are other places I would rather eat. Tanger…er…..ummmm….Les Chef de France – where the food is good and the wait staff is so friendly! Y’all should go there. Stay away from Tangerine Café though. (Please – I don’t like long lines! Hee hee). She had the soup and sandwich, I had bangers and mash (which I find really interesting for a name). Wesley had mac and cheese. The food was good. I’d go back. Rhonda definitely would. Interesting waiter though. I don’t know his name, but he said he was from Kent. When he brought us our food, drinks, etc., we always told him thanks. He responded every time with “Cheers.” Not, “You’re welcome,” but Cheers! We found that interesting. Not sure why, but we’re kinda weird that way.

Next it was time for Wesley’s first adventure on Test Track. We had our fastpasses and we were ready to go. Once again, we could have walked on without a fastpass. No wait – at all! Way cool. Anyway, Wesley loved it. He cackled and laughed and yelled through the whole thing. I love listening to him do that! When it was over, he immediately asked if we could ride it again. By this time, there was a little bit of a line, and we knew we only had a short amount of time, so instead of waiting, we went to get more fastpasses.

Well, out of the blue a cast member custodian comes up to us. He looks at Wesley and says hello, and then to us. He then points to Wesley’s name tag and then at his own. Turns out his name was Wes. He asked Wesley if he liked the ride. The normally shy when he meets a new person Wesley disappeared for a moment and he admitted that he really did like it and that it was his new favorite ride. Wes asked if we’d like to ride it again right now. We said that we would, expecting that he would take us to the fastpass line or something. Instead he led us to a side door that we hadn’t noticed. As we walked in, he asked where we were from and made small talk. Our Wesley had kinda clammed up again, and so Rhonda and I chatted with him. As we entered we saw a sign that said VIP lounge or entrance or something like that. Hmmmm…this could be interesting! We got on a special elevator that required him punching some numbers on a keypad, and then went up a floor. As we stepped off, he explained that this was a special lounge for special people named Wesley. He introduced us to a lady behind a receptionist’s desk named Kaye, I think. He then showed us a place where we could overlook the ride, inside and also the outside part. There was a free coke bar and bathrooms etc. It was very swanky indeed. Kaye said, “We heard you were out front today” to Wes.

Now a couple of things didn’t quite add up. First, we thought it was a little unusual for a custodian to be able to grant access to strangers to this special VIP lounge area. Second, it was kinda odd for her to say that to him. Third, there was another couple in the lounge when we were in there. We struck up a conversation with them and they asked where we were from. We told them and he asked if I worked at the Doraville plant. I explained I was a United Methodist Minister. He was surprised! He told us he thought this lounge was only for employees of General Motors and that he worked for the plant in Michigan.

After all was said and done, we don’t have a clue who Wes was. Perhaps he really was a custodian. We wondered if maybe he was a big wig of some sort that was just out creating magic for folks. We also wondered if it was a warm up to the Million Dreams celebration. We still don’t know, and probably never will. But Wes, thank you for creating a huge bit of extra magic for us! We enjoyed the drinks and the chance to see the inside of the ride. When we left the lounge, Kaye gave us a special pass with directions of how to get to the ride. We assumed we would once again just go through the fastpass line. Oh no! We entered the ride where everyone loads out. I showed the cast member there our pass, and she directed us to another cast member. She took us up, and around and over to the entrance of the load in side. I think we were supposed to have been put in a car by ourselves. One other couple had a special pass as well and they got their own car. The other guy there put another family in our car, and the lady kept trying to get his attention, seemingly to get the other family to wait. But at this point it was too late. It didn’t matter. We really enjoyed our VIP treatment. Once again – Disney magic at its best!

The next part of our visit was a lesson in backtracking. We both have Disney Visa’s so we were going to get our ‘free’ pictures, but there was a bit of a line – not long, but longer than we had seen before, so we decided to try and go meet Figment. This would be a first for Wesley- and I guess for us too. But, when we arrived at Figment’s newly done room the door was open, but there was no Figment. Or anybody else for that matter. We hung out for a couple of minutes, expecting that Figment was on a potty break or something. But no one came. So I went looking for a Cast Member. The one I found seemed to think that Figment should be there any minute. So we waited. Then the door opened to reveal….a handler saying that Figment would be back in about 30 minutes. Ha! She shushed us out and then closed the door behind us.

Now what? We decided to head back to get our Visa Pictures done then to Spaceship Earth and pick up the free picture at the Kodak place while we were there. We had to wait a few minutes for our time with the special Visa people. But when we got in, Minnie and Goofy were there. Goofy immediately noticed Wesley’s nametag and started making a big deal about the fact that Wesley had one and he did not. Then he pointed to ours, and the handler and the photopass guy. All of us had name tags. He didn’t. So he pretended to go on strike and held an imaginary picket sign marching back and forth in protest. It was pretty funny. In the meantime, Wesley was flirting with Minnie, and we got the cutest picture of the two of them. After we return from our next trip with a CD, we’ll post that on here. Anyway, Goofy finally calmed down after everyone assured him that he didn’t need a nametag cause he was famous.

We rode the Spaceship Earth, which is a nice relaxer anytime you ride it. Rhonda and Wesley rode together, and I rode behind. By the way, is it just me? Or aren’t these cars the ones that used to be on the Wedway people mover in the MK way back when? I know I’m right here. Anyway, I nodded off a couple of times I think. Which is a nice little extra piece of magic from Spaceship Earth!

Next came yet another trip to see Figment. He was there this time, and Wesley got to meet him. I know that there is something about males and our fascination with gas. I laugh when someone rips one. I don’t care where I am. It’s funny. To me. Some people think it’s rude, etc. But there is something about a bunch of folk getting together, having someone rip one and then laughing your head off at the aftermath. It’s ingrained even. Wesley gets it – even though Rhonda doesn’t. I tell you all that to tell you this, Wesley thinks it is soooooo funny on the Figment ride when he passes gas and you get the skunk smell. He loves it. So when he got to meet Figment, he told him that he loved the part where Figment is the “Stinky Skunk”. It was great.

It was now time to head around through the World Showcase to go see all the hotties, I mean to look at and admire the view of the hotties, I mean to experience the thrill of differing cultures from around the world. Yeah that’s it. First we walked through Canada. Not much there, ya know? No offense to all my Canadian friends, but short of the beaver tails and Le Cellier, this part of the World Showcase ain’t got much for me.

When we got to the UK, Wesley was of course having a fit. Not a literal fit, but a “I want to go play with Thomas fit.” I just don’t understand this. The boy has a train table. He has like 50 Thomas trains ( not really, but it sure seems like it). He’s got the Suspension Bridge and a roundhouse and a whole slough of other various and sundry items on his train table – more destinations than we can fit on his table. Here he plays with it somewhat regularly. But when he goes to Epcot, all he wants to do is play with Thomas. He has a one track mind – the bellydancer – oh wait, that’s me, all he wants is the UK and Thomas. All this Disney stuff and he wants Thomas. I just don’t get it. SO anyway, we got to the little shop there with Thomas and it was pretty crowded. Mary Poppins had popped in and so we got a picture, and then Wesley went straight to the Thomas table. Only there were other kids and there were not many trains. Now they do have that cool midevil castle thing set up. Where was this when I was a kid? I’ve thought about buying him this stuff just so I could play with it. He played with that for a minute and then the Thomas table cleared out and he played there for a bit. In the meantime I struck up a conversation with a nice Physician’s Assistant from Melbourne, I think. He said they come to Disney pretty regularly to get away from the cell phone etc. I told him I understood and was right with him. Howdy Dr. Whomever you are.

At this point, it was time to go see the hott…er…um…princesses. As we headed over the bridge from the UK into France (which is a nightmare for someone pushing a stroller, by the way) we could see Princess Aurora – by herself! We were so surprised. I mean the park was not very full, but we’ve only seen a princess by herself once before and that was hen she was tucked back in that little garden. This princess was out in the open right across from the best restaurant in the place – Les Chefs De France – y’all go eat there! So we hurried to try and catch her. Well, of course, by the time we got there a small line had formed. No big deal, it was very short. She was very sweet with Wesley and she gave him a kiss and several hugs. I got a picture with her too. Then, Belle and the Beast were there as well and we got pictures with them. While we waited though the attendant guy knighted Wesley. He used his hand for a sword and told him he was now Sir Wesley of Wellington (I made the Wellington part up cause it sounded cooler!). He now had to find a princess to guard. Wesley pointed at Princess Aurora! HEE HEE HEE! When we finished up with Belle and Beast, Aurora was by herself again, so we went back again for Wesley to protect her. The attendant guy came over and made a big deal of the fact that Wesley had found his princess to guard. Smart boy!

We passed on around through the showcase. Wesley couldn’t wait to get to Norway and Mexico. He is a Maelstromer by the way. But we found out it was right about time for the Voices of Liberty to perform in the American Pavilion. I love a capella music. I have sung it before and have an appreciation for how hard it is to do it and do it well. These folks are awesome. Their sound is tight. I love hearing them. Once again they did not disappoint. If you have never taken the time to stop and listen, you need to. It will make your day!

On around, rode Maelstrom (GO VIKINGS!) and Mexico twice. On the way back around for dinner, we stopped in China. One, because Rhonda wanted egg rolls for dinner. Two because the acrobat children were about to perform. Again, this show is amazing. The way these people bend their bodies is so unnatural, and yet they do it with style and grace. You should check it out!

As we got back around to the American pavilion I heard someone call my name. Turned out to be another pastor from real close to where we are and his wife. They were down for the week and saw us. I don’t go to Disney expecting to see anyone I know. But how odd, that 2 times this year we have run into another United Methodist pastor from South GA!

Rhonda stopped to buy a pin, and Wesley and I headed on around to Morocco – we were on a mission. Mo’rockin was playing! As we got close, the belly dancer came out of the cast door and headed in. The bald guy was singing and playing his violin and singing. I really like their music. It, well, rocks. Then she got out there and did her belly dance. But something really, um, interesting happened while she was dancing. About this time Rhonda came up. So she saw this happen too. A girl, wearing next to nothing kinda slinked her way across in front of the stage. She was holding the hand of another girl. Now when I say girl, I mean she was probably in her 20’s. She sat down on the bench across from us and then was like totally gawking at the lady on stage. I mean in a well, how do you say, um, well, you can probably get the idea. It was sooooo weird. I don’t think I want to go into it much more than that. But ewwww!

Then it was time for the shwarma. Chicken and lamb combo platter. Awwwwwwww yeah! I love that food. It rocks! Hard! But y’all stay away. GO to the French place!

It was now getting kind of late and we knew that we had an long day planned at the Magic Kingdom so we decided to head back to the Caribbean Beach for some sleep. We rode Test Track on the way out and a good time was had by all!

More later!

Blessings!

Day Two, She says:

Okay, this is technically still pre-trip. But I had to come up with an idea of what we could do to show the cast our appreciation. So I put Wesley to work. He made cards for everyone in the cast (except the dancers…because, as he told me, “I don’t know them, so I’m not making them cards!”). Some of the cards were really cute. As an example~For the Beast Prince: Beast, I am glad you are nice now. Love, Wesley. He put several hours’ worth of work into those cards. 13 cards, in all. Then I got a silk rose for each princess, plus one for the Fairy Godmother. Put ribbons and tags on them. While I was at work. Because my boss had an out-of-the-office meeting Thursday morning. So that’s how our last hours before the trip were spent.

At last it was Thursday noon, and it was time to leave! The drive down was mostly uneventful. Except that Wesley kept sneezing. And we didn’t have any Dimetapp with us. Not that I hadn’t TRIED to bring it. But Kroger was out. So. We stopped in Ocala for Dimetapp. Then back on the road.

Check in at CBR was quick and painless. As I mentioned, we had never stayed there before, but from the looks, I was kind of hoping for Jamaica. We hadn’t made any specific requests, though. First bit of pixie dust: we’re in Jamaica! Off to the room. To find that only one of our (three) keys opens the door. And Mark complains that the room smells of cigarette smoke. I don’t think it was smoke. He’s not kidding when he says he has a good sniffer. It’s like a mutant sense of smell. Seriously. It’s a weird kind of thing. I agreed that the room had some sort of smell, but I still maintain that it was NOT smoke. After all, MY allergies didn’t bother me, and mine are worse than his. And subsequent times that we returned to the room, I didn’t really even notice the smell. So there! I talked him out of asking for another room, so he settled for going to check on our room keys. We headed for MK. I mean, Epcot. Because there were no PM Extra Magic Hours that night. Epcot it is. We had dinner in Mexico. The skies looked threatening. We decided to call it a night.

Actually, it was a good thing. We decided we’d try the Little Ones EMH at MK for Friday morning. Which meant getting up EARLY. By our standards. Back at the room, only one of our (three) keys worked. And it was a different one than worked earlier. Maybe it’s a game they’re playing with us. Who cares, as long as ONE of them does, in fact, work. But Mark went back to get new keys. Again. They insisted that it was because we were getting them too close to our cell phones. Only problem with that was that we didn’t have them near our cell phones. Unless being in the same room as a cell phone counts. Finally got Wesley settled down and asleep, around 10pm. I was reading Deception Point, and got to a stopping place around 10:30. I left Mark awake, reading Angels and Demons. I TOLD him not to stay up all night reading. Did he listen? NO! Said he finished around 2:45. Way to go, Babe. The alarm’s going off at 6:15!!

And it did. Or rather, the phone rang. Stitch babbled at us. Mark insisted that I get up and get my shower first. And get Wesley ready. So he could sleep more. (Didn’t I tell him not to stay up all night reading?!) The plan worked, though. And by 7:30ish we were headed to the MK.

We arrived just at 8, and proceeded to Fantasyland (the only thing open). First thing we saw was Snow White, standing in front of her ride! Well, that, and the Disney folks trying to recruit people to do their little focus group thing. So after some quick discussing, and assuring Mark that we would be fine without him for an hour, he decided to do it. Then we went to see Snow White. And then we went to ride Peter Pan. Peter and Wendy were in front of their ride, also, playing games with several kids. But Wesley insisted he did not want to see them, so off to ride. After the ride, he did stand there while they played Red Light, Green Light. But he moved, oh, maybe 2 inches. Too many other kids around. He likes the characters to himself. Spoiled, I know. So we backtracked, to ride Snow White. Then we rode Pooh. We were just coming back around to Snow White, and there she was, with Dopey! Wesley got to ride with Dopey, Snow White was right in front of them. Time for one last flight to Neverland, then the hour was over.

Mark headed off to his Super Secret Focus Group, and Wesley and I headed for Main Street, and the Emporium. Still trying to find those blasted Cars cars. They only had the ones he already has. (No worries, he will soon have them all, thanks to everyone who has been searching for the things in three states. So, a big thank you to Dawn, Keith & Michele, and both sets of grandparents!!) I thought watching Cinderellabration would be a nice way to pass some of the time, but first we paused to see the Main Street Dancers. There were about 8 people, including us, watching them. All of the ones on our side of the street were really playing to Wesley. At the end, one of them shook his hand. It was really cute! Back to the front of the castle to wait…and I was rewarded. MY Beast Prince was there! (See previous trip reports if you don’t know about MY Beast Prince.) Good show, even though it was mostly unfamiliar faces. That just meant I could spend more time focusing on great pictures of MY Beast Prince. Wesley still got lots of attention. Wesley and I meandered over to Buzz Lightyear, which was a walk-on. Afterwards, we checked out the dump shop merchandise and the pin stand located nearby while waiting for Daddy. He finally came out, 50 Disney dollars richer, and we departed for Epcot.

Upon arrival, we did what we seem to always do: Wesley and I headed for Character Connection; Mark headed for FastPasses. This time, it was Test Track. We had been trying to ride this since January, and had not had any luck. Wesley was really looking forward to it. But first, we have to see Mickey and the gang. At this point, it’s about 11:15, and there is really no line. Mickey and Minnie were together, which you rarely see! Mark came in just as we were finishing with them. Then we saw Goofy, Donald, Chip and Dale, and Pinocchio. Mark explained that the TT FPs had come attached with “bonus” FPs for Mission Space. He was hoping we could “trade” them for Soarin’ FPs. Well, we couldn’t… but Soarin’ was practically a walk-on. So… we walked on! It was almost time for our ADR at the Rose and Crown, so we started towards World Showcase. On the way, I took some pictures. Here it is, 12 noon, and WS was empty. Definitely liking this!!

Lunch at R&C was good. I thought so, anyway. Wesley had mac and cheese, that much I remember. I had the soup/sandwich~potato and leek soup, which was yummy, and a good roast beef/horseradish sandwich. I don’t remember what Mark had. We also had the cheese and fruit plate, which I thought was very nice. I really liked their tea. It was nice and lemony. I tend to be more fond of pub food than Mark, though, I think. I don’t think he’s rarin’ to go back. I wish I’d gotten a black and tan, since we likely won’t be back for a while.

Done with lunch, we headed back to Future World for our appointment to ride Test Track. Wesley was “a little nervous”. We assured him he’d love it. It’s been a long time since we rode it. Forgot about the pre-show. It’s almost as cheesy as the one for Soarin’. And you people think Cinderellabration is bad!! I don’t get it!! Anyway, we got into our cars and began the testing. We were right. He LOVED it. Maybe even more than Soarin’. He loved it so much that as soon as we disembarked, we went right to get more FPs.

As we got to the FP machines, a man in custodial garb came up to us. Started making small talk. Then asked Wesley his name. Then he pointed at his own nametag, which read “Wes”. We chatted a bit, and one of the CMs working the line came over to talk, also. She seemed to know Wes fairly well. He asked if Wesley liked the ride, then asked if he’d like to ride it again right now? Of course we would! (All the while wondering how a custodian had the power to get us on a ride without a wait.) He led us to one of those doors that you see all over, Cast Members Only or something like that. The doors that always make you (well, us) wonder what’s behind them. Well, what’s behind THIS door is the GM VIP Lounge. He introduced us to the lady behind the desk, showed us where the (FREE) sodas and coffee where located, pointed out the bathrooms, and the viewing places for the ride. Told us to enjoy ourselves, and to see the lady at the desk when we were ready to ride. We enjoyed some soda, watched the ride for a bit, took advantage of their sparkling clean bathroom facilities. Then told the lady we were ready to ride. Through some more secret type doors, then there we were, at the unloading dock. Up and down a staircase, and we were shown into a line, where a car immediately pulled up and we boarded. We enjoyed another great ride. But the whole time, Mark and I were trying to figure it out. Did the guy hear us talking, hear us call Wesley by name? Did he get close enough to see his nametag? Because it seemed as if he chose us (and that is, in fact, what he did~he CHOSE us) simply because he and Wesley shared the same name. The kid really and truly is a Magic Magnet. He generates magic, wherever we go. I am fairly certain that the man was not actually a custodian. Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t think so. Either way, he created a Magical Moment for us that we will not soon forget.

Flying high after that encounter, we thought we’d have our Disney Visa pics taken, but the line was fairly long. Instead, we went to meet Figment, something Wesley has always wanted to do! At least, we THOUGHT we were going to meet Figment. But he wasn’t there. So we rode the ride, instead. Then we went back to Innoventions to try again for the Visa pics. We still had a little wait, but once we got inside, we realized why. Goofy and Minnie (Goofy in particular) were OUTSTANDING. They took lots of time with each family. Right away, Goofy noticed our nametags. He pointed to each of them, and showed Minnie. He also pointed to the nametags of the CMs in the room. Then made more motions, as if to say, Where’s MINE? Minnie followed suit. Goofy really played it up. Had himself a little protest, right there! He was hilarious. Wesley absolutely ate it up. He was definitely one of the most animated Goofy(s) we’d ever seen. We also got some great pictures.

Now we backtracked (again! No wonder my feet always hurt after a day at Epcot!) to have our picture made with Figment. Wesley was very excited about meeting Figment, he’s wanted to do that for a long time. Figment has a nice little place fixed up, so I guess he’s permanent?? We then went AGAIN to the front of the park, to get our free Disney Visa pics. And to ride Spaceship Earth, which remains one of Wesley’s favorites.

Then we again traversed Epcot, to return to World Showcase. In Canada, we saw Koda and Kenai. I guess they are out more now to promote Brother Bear 2. They were playful and fun. Wesley likes them a lot, which I find interesting, because he slept through the movie, Brother Bear. So did I, come to think of it. We bypassed UK for the moment (so we can backtrack AGAIN!), and headed for France. As we crossed the bridge, we could see that Belle and Beast were out, with a short line. Aurora was also out…with NO line. None at all. She was standing there by herself, swishing her skirt back and forth. Really. She was that bored. Mark took off running (you’d think we had never seen Aurora before!!), but by the time we got there, she had a line. Of one. When it was Wesley’s turn, they shared a big hug, and I think she kissed him. She told him that after Prince Phillip, HE was her favorite prince. Wesley beamed. We trotted over to see Belle and Beast. The character attendant, Jim, had already closed the line. But he said the Magic Magnet could get in. And then he knighted the Magic Magnet. And told him his duty was to find a princess to guard. After a picture with Belle and Beast, they departed. We went back to Aurora. And found Jim there. Apparently he was attending her, too. We told him that Wesley had found his princess to guard, and here she was! Another hug and several more pictures, and we left. To go to the UK. We must walk 30 miles at Epcot, every trip. There, we saw Mary Poppins briefly, and then Wesley played with Thomas the Train. Keep in mind that we have, AT OUR HOUSE, more Thomas trains, destinations and track pieces than The Toy Soldier has in stock. But when we are there, Wesley MUST play with Thomas. Evidently, it’s the law. Well, what should we do now? Oh! I know! Let’s go BACK through France to Morocco. See if we can catch Jasmine and Aladdin! We did! They were feeding the ducks. Wesley got to feed the ducks with them. We thought it was pretty neat. As did Wesley. Their attendant was less than pleased. Pulled Aladdin aside and gave him a talking-to. After a pic there, we went to listen to MoRockin’ for a few minutes. And, of course, watch the Belly Dancer. There’s a story there, too, but I’ll let Mark tell it. After their set, Mark and Wesley had their picture taken with the BD. She seems very nice. They’ve gotten a couple of pics with her previously.

Here’s an idea, let’s keep walking in the same direction this time, instead of backtracking. At least for now. In America, we stopped to hear Voices of Liberty. They rock. Really. Love to hear them. We walked on Maelstrom, in honor of our dear Viking friends. And then we walked on El Rio del Tiempo. And rode it twice. Cause it’s one of Wesley’s favorites. Then began more backtracking. In China, we stopped to watch the acrobats. Holy crap!!! They must start training before they can walk. They are awesome! I got some eggrolls, and we continued backtracking. We were headed to Tangierine Café, of course. I mean Les Chefs… oh please, we’re not fooling anyone anymore. Mark was hurtin’ for that shwarma platter. As we walked through America, we ran into someone we knew. From here. Another preacher and his wife. Weird, huh?? I stopped to buy a pin, and I ran into someone Mark went to high school with. On to Tangierine Café, where Mark indulged in his favorite, I had my eggrolls, and Wesley ate his usual: PB&J with a juicebox.

One last ride on Test Track, and it was time to go back to CBR. We had planned on staying for Illuminations, but decided that we needed rest more. (I cannot BELIEVE we made that decision.) Of course, we were also thinking that we’d be back in less than two weeks… had that not been the case, no way would we have left.

Back in the room, Mark and I debriefed and reviewed the day, and Wesley went to sleep quickly. We turned in fairly early, too. A good night’s sleep was had by all!

These last two are important. In the first, if you're careful, you can see Rhonda drooling...

I spy . . . with my little eye: matching father and son CROCs! Too cute!!!

As is Wesley's signed Mickey ears hat in the pic where he is getting a big hug from Aurora.

Loving the dual reporting, M&R.

Also have to mention to Rhonda how spiffy the new "do" is that you showed us over on M2! Although, your hair looks great in the pic with Figment, too.

More rockin' photos, please!

Thanks guys for the pictures and the report. It's always fun finding your TR's.

M&R ~
how did I miss this? Did I skip pages or something when you announced the beginning of this? Am I just out of the loop?

I love the she said, he disagrees and has revisionist history format of the report! And Wesley - the magic magnet -

PHENOMENAL COSMIC POWERS . . . . (itty bitty living space)

All I can say is
pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:
you guys are magic magnets for sure!! Most people don't get that much magic ever yet every time you seem to attract it. At least we get to enjoy it vicariously. Great TR!

Somehow I missed that this was even up :confused3

Loving it - and could you please order up empty streets for OUR little adventure??????????????

I'm loving the dual trip report.

You are magic magnets. An empty park too.

Love the pictures, great memories you will have for years to come.
