Jen- thanks for the tutorial and lessons learned...

i want to try this next..

I wanted to cook Prime Rib for dinner also, but every store... Sams, Walmart, Shoppers, Safe Way and Bloom.... no one had any prime rib or Ribeye Roast.... Ughhhh..

Oh well.

Today I have Glynis bacon parmesan things in one oven, wings in the other. Brushetta cheese crackers ready to make.

Dinner will be prime rib, mashed potatoes, gravy, glazed carrots, buttered haricots verts, maybe corn, hot rolls and alcohol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have the pama' fresca cocktails and POM for anyone who does not want HiTest. Nuvo, and my Baileys after dinner drinks. My neighbor is bringing dessert so that is a surprise.

Mmmmm, prime rib.

Hate it when that happens! (happens a lot around here since we have no actual real-sized grocery)

Well...Tonight was supposed to be a crockpot beef and broccoli...BUT it is BURNT!

I put in in at 11 to be ready at 5...I looked at about an hour ago because it was smelling really strong and it was basically turning into beef jerky.

I followed the directions so I can only think of one or two reasons it didn't turn out.

1) The "LOW" setting on the slow cooker is off.
2) It was a recipe made for those round, DEEPER shaped pots. Mine is a shallower oval shaped one. There wasn't a lot of liquid called for it the recipe, so maybe it was just wrong.

Oh nooooo, Cassie!

I vote for snacks and booze instead?

Sorry....

My crockpot is so hot, even on the low setting, I burned a bunch of food before I figured out that it was just cooking too hot. I want a new one but can't convince myself to spend the money when this one works just fine...

It's okay! DH just took me to the PX for a suprise and bought me some new pots and pans!

Paula Deen sucked me in with her baby blue eyes and high cholesterol. I got her 12 piece set on sale!

I really wanted he Rachel Ray ones because I wanted to oval pan...DH offered to buy that seperate, but I declined since I don't know how much room we will have in our temporary place in NY.(Before we buy)

So.....Now I have to figure out something to cook with REAL pans tonight!:cool1:

(I DESPERATELY needed them but I can never bring myself to buy high dollar things for myself. If he sent me out I would have came back with the $60 Wal-Mart ones...We have been using everyone's cast offs since we moved in together so it was time)

Sooooooo NOW the kids are having cereal in their new cereal bowls(the kind with straws) and I am going to make some pasta with parm.

I bought some REALLY good parm offline a few weeks ago and I have been snacking on it(I eat it like some eat cheddar). It's getting to the rind so I'm going to use it up.

BTW...What does fresh pasta taste like...Probably a silly question I know...But what is the texture like? I like mine on the al dente side.

Hmmmm. The texture isn't at all like store bought pasta. It's much more tender, without the harsh flour-y bite to it.

Ours was just past al dente, which is exactly like I like mine cooked.

It's so different that I almost think you need to try it so you can see for yourself.

Wanna come by for a meal before you leave our grand state of Texas? ;)

Not a bad idea! We'll see...

I have to get the attachment for my mixer one day and try it.

Tonight's dinner was...

Balsamic Glazed Pork Chops

8 boneless pork chops , 1/2-inch thick, trimmed
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 tablespoon olive oil
3 tablespoons fine chopped shallots or 3 tablespoons onions
1/3 cup balsamic vinegar
1/4 cup brown sugar (packed)

Directions:

Pat pork chops dry with paper towels. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. In nonstick 12 inch skillet, heat oil over med-high heat. Cook chops 4 minutes one side, turn over and cook 3 minutes the other side. Transfer to platter and keep warm. Increase heat to high. Stir shallot into pan juices; cook 1 minutes. Stir in vinegar and sugar and cook 1 minute. Pour sauce over chops.

***I used 4 boneless chops rather than 8 bone-in. I halved the recipe for the sauce. This was SOOOO easy and so delicious. Full of flavor. Mmmmmm. I wish we had more.

UncleR made us black eyed peas. I have no idea what she does to them. All I know is they're wonderful.

Happy New Year ladies. I go back to work tomorrow. I'm sorry this wonderful vacation is over. :guilty:

I wanted to cook Prime Rib for dinner also, but every store... Sams, Walmart, Shoppers, Safe Way and Bloom.... no one had any prime rib or Ribeye Roast.... Ughhhh..

Oh well.

Mine was actually a rib eye roast. i got it at Costco and really wanted an untrimmed piece but I just could not bring myself to spend the $130 that the whole piece cost. Then I saw the standing ribs but they were USDA Prime and were a fortune. I kept going back to them but ended up with a 6 pound choice roast. I won't buy beef at teh grocery store anymore, it just is not as good.

I think new crockpots run very hot. I am sorry that happened. I Think good cookware is importatn but I never follow my own advice. I need a new set desparately but every time I go to buy one :confused3

I love those little cereal bowls! Nola and Rylee have them and they are so cute when they use them.

Is it something you made up or do you have a recipe??? :cloud9:

I can try to remember to post the recipe when I get home, it's an old standard.

Oh well posting while drinking creates lots of fun...:rolleyes1

Thanks Nancy that's so sweet!

Happy New Year!!

Happy New Year back atcha!

Hi ladies!
It has been a crazy 10 days or so with christmas and now new years! On top of everything, DH came down with the stomach flu thursday afternoon. He's slowly on the mend, but its put a damper on our plans this evening. We were going to have people over, but cancelled, because I don't want others exposed AND we wouldnt have anything together. I've decided we'll do a redo in the following weeks. Something to look forward too.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! :yay:

I hope your DH is feeling better. Congrats on your first Christmas.

Happy New Year, everyone!:flower3:

I have to fill-in on a praise team this morning so I have a frozen pizza ready and waiting for us when we get in today. I know, I know, it's lazy, but it makes life a whole lot easier for us when we get in.

Sorry for the drive-by (again), but I have fiddle farted too much this morning and need to get on the ball. I hope everyone has a great day!

:surfweb: <---me

Sometimes lazy is a good thing and just what we need!

Good morning and Happy New Year everyone!!!

We spent NYE with friends played games and stayed up late. Dogs got me up early.

Black eyed peas cooking. I found a recipe for eggrolls made with black eyed peas and greens. I hope to try that. Fried chicken on tap also. Just a lazy easy day here.

Sounds like a safe and happy new year!

That's why I like to keep 3 or 4 in my freezer!

Your pasta looked just great! You can make some for Fran and me when we come visit! :lmao:

We just finished dinner at Mrs. Knott's Chicken Restaurant. I got the Country Fried Steak! :rotfl2:

But then when the freezer goes out you have to cook everything....

I went Knotts Berry Farm when I was a kid and loved the rides so much, I always thought it was better than DL...

Touche! But I guess then it is like Russian Roulette!

Knott's is very heavy on the roller coasters, but Disney has added so many it depends on when you were a kid too. You are younger than me, but not sure when you went since CA Screamin is a killer addition! :rolleyes1

However, I have had a couple beverages! So who knows about my ability to actually give real content! :rolleyes1 You know what I mean Brandi :rotfl:

Morning, all!

Last month, Scott and I were officially together for 10 years! :cheer2: We decided to do something romantic and we are going to do it today since he's off. We are going to the movies (probably MI:4) and to an Italian restaurant we love that's only open for dinner. Yay! We will probably take down our tree this morning and get all of the Christmas stuff put away.

I hope everyone has a great day! (and have the day off!)

Congrats and enjoy your day, Lindsay and Scott! :goodvibes

I (unfortunately) do not have the day off. I go back to work today. And 5:30 is awful early when you've been sleeping in every morning. :faint:

I couldn't sleep last night either. I tossed and turned all night. :confused3

The kids don't come back until tomorrow, so today will be a paperwork day for me.

Tonight UncleR is making chili for dinner. It's cold out, so I get to come home to a nice bowl of hot chili. :cloud9:

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Alison, i have known we were kindred spirits for awhile.... Yes, I know what you mean.

I was at DL my one and only visit in 1988.

Congratulations and enjoy a romance filled day.

Christmas has been put away and David and I are cleaning everything in sight and putting everything in its place. Prepping for Thursday.
