Good morning. I'm home sick. I gave this crap to UncleR as well, I think. I haven't decided if it's a sinus infection or some sort of cold or another ear infection that has decided to reappear. All I know is ugh. :guilty:

I have no idea what tonight's dinner will be, as neither of us are feeling much up to cooking.

I'd hug y'all, but I don't want to infect ya', so I'll just say have a good day! :lmao:

please don't infect us.....

But I do hope you feel better soon!

Morning, everyone!

Yesterday was wonderful. The movie was great; I was surprised! I hadn't seen any of the other Mission Impossible movies and it was the most fun (movie-wise) I'd had in a long time, lol. Moreover, with the exception of the guy behind me kicking me every time I crossed his feet, the other theater-goers were great, too. You know, a good movie can be ruined by talkers and such. We lucked out yesterday, lol. We then went to Provino's, which was wonderful, as always. I had an epiphany while there.

I admit that I easily get distracted in public places. There were a few people around us with iPhones, a kid with a DS, etc. The light from things like that always catch my eye and like I said, I get distracted. My epiphany? Instead of getting annoyed with other people's electronics, why not make these romantic dinners at home? Scott is wanting to take some time, especially on the weekend, to work on his computer whatnot, and that would be a perfect opportunity to cook. Normally we go out on Saturdays before we get our groceries. I told Scott why don't we just get up a little earlier and go out for breakfast, go to Target and then go get our groceries. We will have more than enough time in the afternoon for him to study/work and for me to cook. Also, enough time for me to set a pretty table, complete with candles and such, without him knowing. Good idea, eh? I may make this a part of my New Years resolution.

I need to do some research on finding some special things to cook. You know, you can buy filet mignon at the grocery store cheaper than what you can get it for 1 at a nice restaurant, so I'm thinking steak may be on the list. I'm really inspired so I may take some time today to work on some menus. Good idea, you think?

Today I am making black bean soup and cornbread. It is currently 22 degrees and feels like 11. Woo hoo! I LOOOOOVE the cold, so it's great day for soup.

I hope everyone has a great day!

I love this idea! I would love to do this for Alan, but with 5 kids, romantic dinners at home, are hard to do. However, with some planning, it just might work! Thanks for the idea! Good luck to you, and share, share, share those romantic recipes!

Glynis, I'm glad you're here! I have a question for you!

We decided we want soup for dinner, and we're making the lasagna soup. The recipe calls for 3 cups of chopped onion??? That seems like an awful lot. Did you put in all that onion?

I did use 3 cups. It seemed like a lot, while I was chopping, but it sure tasted good. I'm sure you could cut it down, though. I'm going to have to, next time, as my kids hate large pieces of onion. Instead, I'll use dried, minced onion and some onion powder.

Hope you like the soup!

Thank you so much! I may cut it down a bit (although I love onion). I don't want to use all of my onions. :lmao:

I just got back from the grocery store and decided we're having burgers and cole slaw for dinner. Our friend Arline went home today. Tomorrow my cleaninng lady is coming at 9AM and we're going to put the fininshing touches on the house. The cat Nazi is coming tomorrow night, so we find out if my sweetie Mac gets a pal to chase around the house!

I sure hope that visit goes well!

Alan is a photographer with a television station here in Salt Lake. Because 2 of the GOP candidates have Utah ties, they sent Alan and a reporter to cover it.

I hope he has a nice trip - and that y'all get some time when he gets back!

Are you sure this isn't related to the kids coming back today? :laughing: I know there is a ton of sinus related issues going around - lots of people sick over the holidays thanks to whatever blew in last. Hope it clears up fast!

Back to the daily grind today - was fun while it lasted! :laughing:

Last night I made a knockoff of Johnny Carino's Italian Nachos and they were soooooooo good. I hope to get a pic today in the natural light and will share the recipe.

Tonight I'm making Zuppa Toscana, a recipe Lauren recommended. It's fairly cold here today so I thought we'd do soup for dinner.

Aimee- We make that soup often, we just call it Olive Garden soup, of course I always make rosemary rolls to go with it.

Jen- Feel better.

Glynis- Welcome home!

Nancy- Good luck catching up, I don't think I'm ready for reality day yet!

Not sure on dinner, I think we are having open face turkey sandwiches (but with chicken, just sounds better saying turkey.) Now I really want olive garden soup but I'm not going to the store. Oh well, we'll have plenty more cold days.

Hello everyone! It's back to the old routine after a nice week off.

Lindsay, I am glad you had a good dinner. I think your idea is a great one. I started cooking a lot more when John and I moved out of the city to a nearby suburb. The suburban restaurants were not was I was used to when we lived in the city! When we were in Boston, we ate out around three nights a week. Now I think we eat out three times a year!!

Glynis, I am glad that you had a good Christmas. I always like reading about Alan's assignments. Very cool. And, he had better give you some TLC once he is back home!

Jen, congratulations on the noodle success!

I am forgetting stuff, my brain is mush...

WFD: it is freezing, so something hot and comforting!

Hi ALL!!! Happy New Year!!!

I am proud to say that I am about 75% finished with my End of Year procedures. It wasn't near as bad as I was fearing. Actually they all went very easy. I am SO glad!! Hopefully I can get caught up here and be a more active participant. I really miss you all when I don't get in here.

We spent a very quiet New Year's. 7 years ago on New Years Day my dear sweet Momma passed away. So NYE and day in this family is very low key. I am always just glad when it's over, as I always think back and know exactly what I was doing when.

Yesterday I put a brisket in the crockpot. Around 5 the kids came out and we had BBQ beef sandwiches, coleslaw and Homemade Mac and Cheese. It was all so good and I was so thankful to have the kids around me.

WFDT ~ Whole wheat pancakes, bacon and eggs. Real comfort food after all the heavy stuff we have been eating.

Make it a great day everyone.

Behind again! Most days I read, then can't post and forget what I was going to say anyway. :sad2:

New Years was good. Went to my Aunts house and my cousin shot off fireworks. They were pretty good. Played Pit which is a card game and it was rowdy as usual.

My DM gave me money for my birthday and Christmas so I went out shopping with my BFF Friday night after I did Christmas with her and her camily. Got a new coat, sweater, nightgown and shirt at Kohl's and still have some leftover to spend at Lane Bryant. Got two GC's for there and they are running a bra special. :woohoo:

One of the GC's was from her and she told my DM and that I was going to get new bra's. My DM said "yeah, like she needs more bra's" and I said I needed to get some new ones cause some of the old ones didn't have much support anymore.

Right in front of my BFF's DH and 3 boys. :rotfl: Her DH bust out laughing and her oldest was mortified. I was good and didn't demonstrate by pulling up my bra straps. :rolleyes1 He is like his dad used to be, can't mention girlie things like that or other female things ;)

Dinner last night was really good. I seasoned a Swai fillet with an African spice blend then "breaded" it in cornstarch and pan fried it. I had seen that on some cooking show where they used it on shrimp. It was really good and crispy. Had it with roasted potatoes and brussel sprouts. I also made a Balsamic glaze for the sprouts.

Tonight I am having some sort of shrimp dish.

Tonight must be Italian soup night in North Texas. :lmao:

I'm also drooling at your meal last night! ;)

Just say they were being educated about female incidentals. ;)

Our soup is boiling away and I think it smells good, although I'm not exactly sure.

I still feel blech, we'll see how I feel in the morning. :headache:

But, I did make dinner and attempt to figure out our fancy camera today. This way I can take really nice pics of all of our food.

Hope everyone has a great night and even better tomorrow!

That sounds like a neat job, I'm sure it's not boring!

I think this sounds great, especially the part about setting a pretty table to surprise him!

Allison-good luck with your Cat Nazi!!!!!

Today is reality day. :dance3: I have a lot to catch up on, things are not the way I like them here and I get distracted if there is too much hanging around.

Thank you, they will be here in less than half an hour.

So I made it into work today! Ughh

Not the best part of my day!

:hug: Hopefully you are now enjoying the best part of your day. :goodvibes

I sure hope that visit goes well!

Thanks! Hope it wasn't too tough on you getting back into it!

Glad you are almost caught up on your EOY stuff. :hug: for your Momma

This made me chuckle, it's amazing how men can't deal with "female issues"!

Unless your being sick makes your palate funny, you should really like the soup! I hope you feel better soon.

I'm not sure what we're having, I was going to make a frozen pizza, but we had that for lunch, I just want to pass this cat inspection!

When are ya' gonna know about the cat, Alison?

~~~~~~~~~
Well, here's dinner:
I couldn't taste anything but something salty, which I think was the ricotta. But, everyone else in the house swears it was fabulous. UncleR made fresh bread to accompany it, which I also couldn't taste. :lmao:
Probably no work for me tomorrow. Probably the doc instead.
Jen I hope you start to feel better soon. The soup looks fab
Marilyn It is funny how the brain/mouth filter fails at the worst moment.:lmao:
Tonight we had chicken brocolli califlower stir fry. I have an overload of veggies leftover from our fondue party. I need to package them and freeze. :lmao:
The first semister of school is almost over. In 2 weeks Mr A's has his finals. I think he is sweating it. He has a headache tonight. It is unlike him to have headaches. Hopefully he is not getting sick.:confused3
That sounds like a neat job, I'm sure it's not boring!
Nope. Not usually boring. Sometimes, though, he has to cover stories that are heartbreaking. Things like politics, though, can be a lot of fun for him. He has seniority, so he gets first chance at a lot of the traveling stories. Since he started graduate school, he's had to opt out of a lot of traveling, but this one came at a good time, before the second semester starts on the 9th.
Howdy, all!
Today I'm not cooking since we have leftover black bean soup. My goal today is to work on my cooking blog. I have no idea what I'm going to do with it, so I need to get cracking with it.
What do you guys think of this recipe? Barefoot Contessa Steak This may be one of the first things I make for our romantic Saturday meals. I won't make the topping for it, so disregard that part of the recipe. Any and all opinions welcome!
I hope you all have a happy and healthy day!
Girl, I'm gonna tell ya', both UncleR and I would consider that a very romantic meal. :lovestruc
Of course, UncleR fell for me over a steak dinner. Just ask her how romantic she thought it was when I took over half the steak which we were sharing. ;)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I'm up, but only because I had to wake up to get J up for school. :headache:

I am not going in again today. I need one more day to get better. I think it may be some sort of virus, because of all of the symptoms I'm having. :sick:

I have no idea what dinner will be today. I haven't thought that far ahead.

I hope everyone has a great Wednesday.

That steak sounds wonderful. I will have to keep that one handy. Instead of the sauce just put a piece of good quality butter on it. It gives it a richness that can't be beat.

Jen rest up there is a lot of junk out there.
Not sure yet about dinner.

Lindsay - that recipe looks so good! Alan would love the sauce, but me, not so much. I agree with a good pat of butter on top!

Jen - Sorry you're still under the weather! We've got some nasty head cold running through our family. It started with Timmy, and has run through everyone! We're all coughing and sneezing and dealing with dripping. Ick! Hope you feel better, soon!

Alan comes home tonight. Can't wait! I talked to him this morning, and he's exhausted, and dealing with his own version of our head cold. Unfortunately, he's a man, and won't hear of taking something to help him out. I told him to get some Nyquil and take it as the plane is taking off. Should help him, and the other passengers on the plane. However, being a man, he'll tell me he will, but then he won't, and he'll come home all miserable and spread his misery around. Guess I'll have a slug of Nyquil waiting for him here.

Dinner tonight will be the cheeseburger salad on PW's site. Sounded really good to me and the kids! I've got everything except the buns for croutons, so I'll just use some regular bread for that. Then, I don't have to leave the house today! It's a jammie day for sure! I think Timmy and I will snuggle in my bed and watch movies all day!

Good morning, quick fly by here.

Jen I hope you feel better soon!

Lindsay I agree with the others, just put a pat of butter on the steak.

WFD: shortcut chicken enchiladas verde
