Soooo good.

Oh honey. Green heads of cabbage only in this house. And none o' that fancy schmancy Napa cabbage. Just regular ol' green cabbage. :cloud9:

Mine too. I have to get up in a minute and make it. :cool1:

We are coming home in October of next year.... I call it the "Stayin in the Will" trip, can I come over for dinner?...

I'm sure it pays more bills than my Specialist does! :lmao:

(I am proud of him either way)And well...I am a SAHM whose kids are in school 5 days a week.:rolleyes1

Always be proud!

And you have a tough job yourself! twins?

our youngest is 18 so we have finished the hard part....

And some food porn to match....

Not just a Texas specialty. My dad spent 5 years in England in his youth. He ate this a LOT there.....came home and made mum make it for us on the odd occasion or every week. I use MORE BACON to cabbage. You can never have enough bacon.

Giiiirl, whatchu talkin' 'bout? :scared1:

How far are you away and when can you be here? :lmao: If you like cabbage, this is for you.

K, here's what ya' do.

You get yourself a head of cabbage and shred it. Dice up about 6 slices of bacon and fry them crisp, like bacon bits. Then fry the shredded cabbage in the bacon grease (you can pour some grease off if the bacon gives off a bunch) with some salt and pepper. Sometimes I add some garlic or onion powder. Taste and make sure your seasoning is to your liking and fry the cabbage until just tender. You don't want it too soft but not crunchy. Add the bacon bits back in and toss. Serve to your family. If they don't like cabbage, then there's more for you.

It is yummy. And healthy. Ignore the bacon grease and bacon. :rolleyes1

Oh, you had me at "fried" :goodvibes

Being a Texas girl myself, grew up in San Antonio... I thought everyone had Fried Cabbage... but my DH had never heard of it, but loves it now...
I'm a New Englander and never heard of it. I am a believer now :thumbsup2

What kind of cabbage? I don't care for the purple...yes they are different to me! LOL...It sounds like my dad's roasted brussel sprouts!

.

Cabbage is not created equal so I get that!

How are you doing? I think of you often.

So dinner is leftovers from last night for me and Buddy is having wings in front of the TV. WE got a disturbing call from his mom. They have that rocky relationship and the last time we went to help Buddy had to tell her he was not a yo-yo so she needed to either give him the tools to help her or his hands would be tied. His sister came any and it was very unpleasant, he told me not to go without him. Anyway, no contact, no news but his nephew told him she had aides caring for her and that he was not going back.....Buddy's sister made it impossible for him as well. Long story short, we went over and I have no idea how this is going to turn out. I will visit because I would not be alone but Buddy thinks I need to wait until he is there, sister is loaded for bear lately according to the aide.

So we broke open a bottle of wine and now Buddy made a face at his wings. Oh well..................he will get over it, he is having some wine and he never has any if he is working the following day.

Hello friend. :flower3:

Why not, I do better when things are on the schedule!~

First, I think we'd be a nice break on the "Stayin' in the will" trip...just cause we have family too, and well...

Second, you 'member when you posted that picture of your booze? Our house is a lot like that. :rolleyes1

I can offer you nothing except . Sounds like a very difficult situation. Also, if you have any leftover wings, UncleR will always take them off of your hands. She loves 'em, and I have an aversion to meat on the bone and we never have 'em. :lmao:

Afternoon, all. I just realized that I didn't get on the computer at all yesterday. Sorry about that. We had a really full day!

In the morning, Alan and I went to a funeral for one of Alan's "great-uncle's". He was married to Alan's mother's best friend. It was a really nice funeral, and Alan and a brother were asked to sing (I ended up accompanying them). Once that was done, we came home to find that the kids had actually listened and obeyed, and cleaned the house from "corner to corner!" So, we decided a nice reward was in order. Our first stop was at a local artist's studio, so Jacob could complete one of his requirements for a Scout merit badge. It was great fun to see how the sculptor works from beginning to end on a piece. After that, we drove to Salt Lake City to a small shopping area that goes all out for Halloween. While there we did a "tour" of the witches homes, learned how to dance like a witch, attended a witchy cooking class, buried a few plastic cockroaches, and went on a witchy scavenger hunt. The kids had a great time. We were going to treat ourselves to some fudge and caramel apples, but the line at the candy store was at least 40 minutes long. Yikes!!! Instead, we told the kids we'd take them to a movie. We drove through a hamburger stand for dinner, and then took the kids to see Harry Potter 7.2. It was a ton of fun!

Today has just been a relaxing kind of day. We went to church, and have just been relaxing ever since. Jacob helped me make a loaf of banana bread, and it is smelling heavenly! I didn't have any nuts on hand, so this is a plainer loaf than I normally make. Dinner tonight will be breakfast for dinner. Pancakes (apple cider pancakes with cinnamon sugar on top), and Alan will make cheese and tomato omelets to go along with them.

Allison - I'm so sorry that you had to cancel your trip, but I surely understand why! It's terribly disappointing, though. I hope you will let us help you out of your funk!

Lindsay - How did things go this morning? I was thinking about you and sending good vibes! Sorry about Chloe being sick. No fun!!!

Risa - How's Kady doing? I hate it when our little ones are sick. My niece's 3 year old daughter was just diagnosed with whooping cough. She is one sick little girl!

Princess - Your dinners make me ashamed! They always look so amazing! I wish Australia was closer so I could pop in for dinner some night!

Jen - The king ranch casserole was ok, but kind of salty. I think that the next time I make it, I'll use fresh corn tortillas instead of tortilla chips. I also think that instead of a can of diced tomatoes, I'll use salsa instead. It really needed some kind of "kick." Your cake looks amazing to me! If you send me some, I'll send back some banana bread!

Happy birthday, Janice! Sorry I missed it!

I make this for St. Patrick's Day only I finish by mixing it in with mashed potatoes! Yummy! The Irish call it colcannon. It is good, but oh, so rich!!!

Welcome to our thread! I hope you'll stay around! I am a mom of twins, as well. Mine are 9, now, so technically, they are out of the cute stage, and on to the sassy stage.

We are alright! We got some good news about DH being home sooner then expected!:thumbsup2

Don't feel bad...The kids are having a Totinos pizza for like the 3rd time this week since it's one of the few foods they will eat right now. (Gotta love 4 year olds:rolleyes:) Hey! I put some veggies on top...DD got bacon, black olives and banana peppers on her half:sick:...It's her favorite. DS got bacon and olives.

I will be having an Olive Garden to go salad and Tiramisu I have been hiding in the fridge since last night.:rotfl:...I am SO mean! It was a gift from my neighbor though and I don't want to share so I'll eat after they go to bed.

I will definately be stopping by more. I glance through every once in a while...but after the cabbage thing, I feel like I have been missing out!

Have I told you I love banana bread? DEAL!

And I'm glad that yesterday's service went well.

That's not mean! If mama ain't happy, kiddies ain't happy...;)

Yeah...In all fairness when I got to lunch at Nami(a hibachi place...) I always look like a pig cause I order 2 EXTRA sides of fried rice so I can bring some home for them. And I'll be going this week so...

Glynis- I lost the post when I responded to you earlier this week. I wish we could have heard you and Alan sing, it must have been a lovely way to pay honor to someone you both held dear. I have to tell you that I was thinking of you this morning. One of my favorite weathermen (DH thinks I am a freak......I think he is the cutest!) was on the air for the last time this morning. He is taking a job in SLC and I am going to miss him. If you see Curtis Grevenitz on the air please smile at him for me. He is that nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are alright! We got some good news about DH being home sooner then expected!:thumbsup2

Great news!!!!!!!!!!!! I marvel how women hold the fort down with kids. My DH cousin's DH is a Marine and they have a little one. She is far from her Mom and family. She went from a spoiled, self-absorbed girl to a woman who sets an example for the other young wives at home. I am so proud of her! You are doing the same thing, raising children and keeping their lives as normal as possible under the most stressful conditions. Please keep dropping by here, we would love to have you jump in and chat.

Jen- I am so upset for Buddy. His Mom is the poster woman for horrible mother. Her entire family is estranged from either her or each other :sad1: I am feeling snarky lately and just posted on a MIL bashing thread and I figure if I can treat this woman with courtesy and respect then I have a hard time understanding that one! Anyway, Buddy is going to talk to a lawyer to see what he is able to do if he needs to step in. WE tried to get his Mom to at least give him POA so that he could protect her and make sure that his nephew could visit but she changed her mind and left things the way they were in order "to give Cathy one more chance." Well, she had the stroke and it triggered he dementia. Sometimes she is fine and others not so much. Cathy needed to remove the phones because she kept calling the police to rescue a baby that was crying. The night aide quit when she called the police to complain the girl would not let her go out to find the crying child. Now things are the way they are so we'll see.

Glass #2 being poured now.

Well...since this IS a food thread...

Does anyone have a recipe for some buffalo chicken dip?

It has cream cheese, hot sauce, canned chicken breast and I think mozz cheese?

I want to get the stuff when I go shopping this week.:rotfl: I really eat healthy when DH is away...Hey....It's ONE year out of my life where I can do this.
