Glynis Boy your house don't do things in halfs do you? I hope you can catch a break.

Jen Sounds like you have a grand ole time. Do you know what caused the blackout?

Mr A is finally feeling better. Hopefully all the test results come in and he can go back to school Monday.

My MIL passes away this past week. I hope to hear tonight about the arrangements. A will not be able to attend anything outside. The cold air will start up the coughing fits again. He can not afford any more time away from school.

I am hoping February brings better luck January kind of sucked.

WFD is breaded pork tenderloin red cabbage and apples and a salad of some sort.

We have no idea what caused the blackout and can only assume that the town shut down the water in response to there being no electricity.

Glad Mr. A is feeling better. I am very sorry about your loss. :hug:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My house smells divine with the french onion soup cooking! I hope everyone has a great evening and a wonderful rest of your weekend!
Jen glad you are back to running water and electricity!
Glynis, that's awful, we had tree roots that had disconnected a sewer line in one of buildings, that was no fun and expensive to fix. I hope your luck is better.
Janice, sorry to hear about your MIL. Glad that Mr A is feeling better tho.
Kim, I hope you are living it up on your cruise!
Me, I've been scrubbing walls and cabinets to remove the nasty nicotine residue from the old lady who was a chain smoker in the newest vacant apartment. Hopefully the Contractor won't charge us two arms and a leg for this place, maybe just one.
I am NOT cooking dinner tonight!
Today we are having the chicken pot pie I made last night. Boy, was that an experience! I will tell that long story later and post the recipe.
Glynis- Wow! I'm so sorry about all of that. When it rains, it pours, doesn't it?
Janice- So glad Mr. A is feeling better :) I'm so sorry about your MIL, though.
AJ- I wouldn't be cooking either!
Hello everyone. I've been rather slack on the cooking front this month. It's been pretty hot and busy here; so we've been having rather scrappy meals. If not, the meals have pretty much consisted of zucchini and eggplant. I made a rather simple eggplant pasta for dinner this week and even DS wolfed it down.
Today, the Chinese New Year celebrations were on in the downtown chinatown so we headed in to enjoy the festivities. I didn't cook all day; not even for breakfast.
But life heads back to school routine this week. DS starts school on Wednesday. So, our regular schedule will probably kick-start mid week.
Anyway, hope you're all keeping well and warm. I certainly think about your winter right now...it's still in the high 80's/90's here at 10 pm at night.
Good morning lovely ladies!
We had date-night in last night and watched Planet of the Apes. That was a great movie if y'all haven't seen it!
Today will be FULL of cooking. First, we'll be making our homemade pork sausage. And then, it'll be some fresh pasta with tomato butter sauce.
I wonder if it's too early to start now? :lmao:
You guys have a great Sunday!
Well...I will on Pinterest on other recipe sites trying to plan a MONTH'S worth of meals.
DH has this new, brilliant idea of buying most of our groceries once a month and just buying perishables when we need it.:rolleyes:
So now I am meal planning so I know how much of eat meat and such to get at Sam's this week.
Hello, all. I'm not going to say "good morning" because I'm reserving judgment on that. Yesterday was not so good, and I'm kind of dreading the whole "bad things come in 3's" thing. We've had our sewer disaster, and last night, as we were trying to get to Katie's play, the van stopped working. We popped the hood to find that the battery was so corroded, it had eaten through part of the casing, and broken off. NOT GOOD! Alan shuttled us to the play in his car, then came home and got a temporary fix done on the van. I really don't want to find out what the third thing is going to be. I just don't know if I can handle anything else sucking money out of our account!
So, dinner last night. The bacon corn pie was pretty good. I had to make some adjustments, so I'm sure the flavor profile was off, but not by much. I think it would have been better as a brunch item, but we all liked it.
Today I've got a roast in the crock pot, using the recipe that's currently up on Plain Chicken. It smells good, so we'll see. We'll have a green salad on the side, and some strawberry lemon bars for dessert.
Right now I'm gulping down my 3rd diet Coke, in an effort to get rid of a headache before church starts. Wish me luck!
Hi everyone!
Today I'm very sore, I hope we don't try to do too much today.
Glynis, I hope things only go in twos and you're done for now!
JEn, the sausages sound wonderful!
PIO, hopefully your zucs and eggplant are helping your girlish figure.
Cassie, that's sort of how we shop except we buy out meat in bulk when it is on sale and keep it in the freezer. Rarely do I buy meat in my shopping trips. I usually go 2-3 times a week to get frsh veggies, milk, cheese, etc.
Lindsay, homemade chicken pot pie sounds good. I might have to put that in the dinner rotation.
I got away with ordering pizza last night. Tonight we're having stuffed cabbage that we got at Costco earlier this week. Easy enough, put it in a baking pan, heat for 20 minutes. I'm booking a massage for later this week!
We shop for a few weeks at a time, but I have my system down. We do perishables in between if so needed.
The biggest thing is not to "schedule" meals, at least IMO. I have my list of things to make, I separate out some meals that take longer and reserve those for weekend, and then just sort of decide what to make each day.
You'll get used to it!
OH Glynis. :hug: I know things will get better.
I also pinned that Plain Chicken recipe. I'd love to know how it is!
I love stuffed cabbage, but have only made it myself once because it was so difficult. :lmao: Maybe I need to try again!
Update: Pig casings smell bad. Who knew? :rotfl2:
We buy our non-perishables either once a month or every fortnight depending on how much space we have to store it all.
We get fruit and veg every 5 - 7 days and I go to a fresh market every fortnight for meats, chicken and fish.
I hope that things don't come in 3's for your sake. Sorry about you being in the 'poo's and I hope that the van gets permanently fixed for low cost. :hug:
I weigh in again today. So, we'll find out if it does or doesn't.
Enjoy!
It's Monday over here and I haven't worked out what we are going to have for dinner yet. I suspect we might end up doing something simple like eggs on toast tonight or a zucchini omelette.
:scratchin.....the more I think about it....DS will be having scrambled egg on toast for dinner. DH and I will be having zucchini omelettes. :laughing:
Have a good day all.
So, the pork is ground and seasoned and I learned something very important.
Being 4'11" is a bad thing in the kitchen. I'm having to stand on a stool to feed the meat into the KitchenAid. :lmao:
OH Glynis. :hug: I know things will get better.
I also pinned that Plain Chicken recipe. I'd love to know how it is!
Well, the verdict is in from my family. They really did like this roast, but liked my other roast better. The roast I do is really similar, except it's 1 mix of ranch dressing, 1 mix of Italian dressing, and 1 mix of brown gravy to 1/2 cup water poured over a roast and cooked. I think the ranch gives it a tang that the Plain Chicken roast didn't have. We kind of missed it.
The Plain Chicken roast was really good though, and would have been wonderful over rice. We didn't do that, though, as I added potatoes, carrots and onions to the crock pot.
:wave: sorry to interupt I'm just stalking Goovyluver :hug: Just wanted to say hi and that I miss you!
Good to know! We may try it, just to have a different roast! Thanks for the review!
P.S.~ Hope your day is better!
Kristi!!!!! Hi, my friend!
I miss you back, but you totally know where to find me! :hug:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Sausages are stuffed. Sauce is cooking. Pasta dough is ready to be cut. I'll post pics later. But, suffice it to say, we won't be making sausage again for....ohhhhhh....four or five years. :rotfl2: It's a lot of work!

:laughing: The first time DH walked in on standing on a chair in the kitchen he said, "I didn't realize I married an Oompa Loompa!"

I am short too...Don't feel bad.

I haven't been on here in over a year, and what do I do? stalk you :lmao::rotfl2:

The REAL question is, why are you here? Are we going to Disney??? :cool1:

:lmao: My poor elbow was straight in line with UncleR's eyeballs. I kept swinging it around and almost knocking her out. Sausage stuffing is dangerous! :scared1:

Okay, so I take it back. I'll totally stuff sausage again because it was SO worth it.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand how people can buy things from stores when it tastes so good when you make it at home! There is simply NO comparison between homemade and store-bought sausage.

I made pasta and tomato butter sauce as well. This was the best thing I've ever made. Hands down.
