The What's For Dinner Thread - October'11 (recipe index in OP)

The name "Whoopie Pie" makes me giggle...Is that wrong?

Tonight we are having some freinds over to play Phase 10.

I am making my famous Baked Ziti.

I got some garlic bread and foccacia(from HEB) to go with it and I also made some brownies.

The only thing missing is the meat I usually cook in the sauce. I use sweet and hot Italian sausage and the big Bridgeford pepperoni links. It would just be too expensive for these big men.:lmao:

HEB ... is one of the things I miss from Texas.... Besides everything else there...

Well, I think I jinxed myself with all my talk of good weather. It's been snowing off and on all day long. I woke up early to go pick up our Bountiful Basket offering, and there was a couple of inches on the ground! It's beautiful, but cold, now!

Alan and I did end up going out last night. We first picked up tickets to see "Sherlock Holmes" and ran into our neighbors getting tickets for the same show! We laughed about running into each other, and went our ways (we still had an hour until the show started). Alan and I headed to a little cafe to grab a sandwich and salad before the show, and who should we run into but the same neighbors! Bowing to fate, we all ate together, had a wonderful visit, and then headed back to the movie together! It was so much fun! The movie was wonderful (love me some Robert Downey Jr.!), and it was great to be without the kids.

However, Alan is not well. He has been down all day today with some intestinal thing. Even worse, it's making the rounds through the kids. So far, Timmy and Mary have succumbed to it. I'm thinking it's going to be a long night!

Can I ask for some pixie dust/prayers/good thoughts thrown our way? Jacob has been suffering with migraines since he was 2 years old. We've had him looked at by our PCP, and were told to keep a journal each time he has one, to try to find triggers, etc. We've been doing that, and there's nothing really concrete that we can point to that might trigger them. Well, I'm now really concerned because he's now getting them weekly. They are so awful! He goes really white, begins throwing up and then literally sleeps for 12 hours. I told Alan that I'll be making an appointment for a more thorough exam this coming week. I'm going to demand an MRI or a CAT scan to see if there's anything I need to really worry about. I'm trying not to think brain tumor, but I would never forgive myself if there was something really bad, and I just let it go. So, if you could help me out with some prayers, etc., I'd really appreciate it.

I hope everyone is feeling better...

Hi all....

I think I am caught up...

I must tell you that I have been sleeping so much... Almost 12 hours a day...Lots of naps during the day.

I am in pain but it is getting less by the day.

The Dr was very happy with the results, it is a very straight toe....

So I have 12 stitches outside, 22 inside, two titanium screws, and about a 1/4 inch less bone in my foot.

I went back to the Dr on Monday and he was happy and he wants to see me again on Monday for the stitches removal. He said I would be out of work for 6 to 8 weeks...

I am on crutches right now, so there is no planning dinner from me... DH has been getting me anything my taste buds will like, so hopefully he will grill chicken tonight...

Hope everyone has a wonderful day...

Hi, all! Sorry I've been MIA today. We are having some really bad hail right now and I just had to drive home in it. It is extremely bizarre weather for this time of year.

Ok, yesterday. After re-reading my long story, I realized how ridiculous and drama-ish this was, so I decided to talk to Amanda about it over lunch. I am SO glad I did. Things are totally cool with us now. I will tell you the whole story later, but I thank you for the advice you gave. Yes, I read WAY too much in Facebook and I need to stop that. It's one reason I have a love/hate relationship with it, lol. And yes, I do know I have had these kind of issues with her/them before. I just really need to be careful in the future and keep the communication lines open. Again, I will come back and tell you the rest later. Gotta go for now.

Dinner is at church tonight. After driving through that hail I'm going to make myself something soothing to drink and sit down for a few minutes.

Have a great day!

That sounds like a pretty heavy duty surgery. Glad you made it through and he is taking such good care of you. Hope you're able to wean yourself off the meds soon. I know how frustrating it can be to sleep the days away! Besides you have a cruise coming up and you still need to finish telling us about the last one!

I hope the recovery goes smoothly and that the pain goes away fast. Do you need physio or rehab or anything like that in the next 6 - 8 weeks?

HI everyone, remember me?? ;)

Well I can honestly say my year end proceedures and New Year has begun. I feel so much better that, that is over and now I can concentrate on getting things straightned out.

It is cold and blustry out today. They are saying we will have wind gusts up to 50 mph. I don't like the wind - makes me feel like a caged lion. But it is supposed to get into the 50's over the weekend.

WFDT ~ Lemon shrimp pasta bake, green salad and garlic bread.

Make it a great day my friends.

Collections day! :headache::headache::headache::headache: I need a drink, or three! I have a bottle of Barefoot Moscato in the fridge, may have to break the seal tonight.

Here is the Pineapple Rice Recipe for Aimee. I adapted it from a recipe I found on about.com

Yum... need to try that soon! Thanks!!

Regarding Cambodian food - our kitchen staff at the church are from Cambodia so they are always cooking up something authentic for their meals. They were refugees that the church helped years ago (30ish) but much of their family is still in Cambodia. Anyways, I've never really asked them to make me something but I might now

HEB ... is one of the things I miss from Texas.... Besides everything else there...

About a year ago, the first DFW area HEB opened about 10 miles from my house. It was ridiculous how excited I was about it... It's AWESOME. We shopped there exclusively when we lived in Waco and it was sad to come further north and have no HEBs (except Central Market) to shop at.

Your body needs that sleep! Don't feel bad about it. I'm glad it's healing well and that the doc is happy - and that your DH is your personal chef right now! Awesome!

Last night, as expected, DH chose take out so we had BBQ. I'm honestly just not doing well right now and am home again today... since I hadn't planned to be home tonight, I think we'll go out for Wednesday night enchilada special that we never get to take advantage of.

PIO- I have no idea why my ankle was a mess. I was sitting on the chair, went to bed and could not walk the next morning :confused3 I ended up taking the day off, I clean part time and Friday is my busy day. Two days later and I am fine!

My first husbands brother was a vegetarian and he used to stuff squash with any kind of stuffing he had on hand. He used a bread stuffing and added every veggie in the house and I loved it when he cooked that for us!

You need the sleep! I am sorry that you are in pain, that surgery sounds like a major event  take care of yourself and do not rush getting back to normal, you have plenty of time.

WINTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lindsay- FB can be a nightmare if folks look for it to be more than it is. My sister.....................I love her dearly but .................got me unfreinded by Kim when she was in Cali. Gail could not stay off the kids pages and made comments when she thought they were out of line. I never read more than updates, did not read the conversation that was between the kids and their friends. Kim unfriended me and Gail and I was annoyed at Gail. Then she got into a discussion with Tim when he was in Iraq and I had to have a chat with her..............told her if she got me tossed off of Tims friends list I was going to lose my temper.

FB is a tool to communicate but not everyone uses it wisely. I imagine Amanda talks more than she should or does not say what she really means. I agree it is best to just overlook anything she says on FB so you don't get your feelings hurt.

Don't hesitate! Buddy and I are sipping a glass now

You know how to reach me if you want to talk

Dinner is my chicken soup and sandwiches. I had Nola and Rylee today and I am wiped out! They are adorable but Holy Smokes!!!!!!!!!!!!! They (Rylee) is never stopping whirling dervish! They both had two helpings of soup for lunch after having toast and jelly for snack. Then Nola helped bake cupcakes and decorated them so that was afternoon snack. I have sprinkles, frosting and cake crums, dribbled milk and goodness knows what else everywhere:rolleyes1 but we had a blast :goodvibes. Nola called Meeshi (marisa) and Kady to come have her cupcakes and served dan and Buddy too. It was a celebration because THE TOBACCO IS SOLD AND DELIVERED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:yay::yay: After three bad years we had a good one! Dan and Brian went with him to deliver it and he was told that it was beautiful and the buyer wants him back next year. This is major because this year he went with a new buyer for him and there is more around than needs to be sold. Anyway, even though we are small this is huge!

Umm....it's kind of hard to describe. It reminds me a little bit of Thai food? Sweet and spicy curries. There is a French influence to the food also. Last night I had a red curry shrimp dish with leeks, scallions, mushroom, tomato, and sticky rice. John had a rare seared tuna with red and green curry sauces and pear-stuffed crisped ravioli.

Hmmmm, interesting. Maybe I'll look around up in Dallas for a Cambodian place and convince UncleR that we need to taste-test it. :lmao:

Tonight is our crazy night. Jacob has Scouts, Katie has her church group, and I'm not really sure what Alan's school schedule is. Can't reach him on the phone, right now to find out, either. So, I've decided we're going to have breakfast for dinner. Pancakes and scrambled eggs. I like to add a can of creamed corn to the eggs for some taste and texture. Then, I pile on lots of sharp cheddar cheese. Yummy!!!

I got a bunch of green bananas from our bountiful basket order on Saturday, and I'm hoping they ripen soon! I found a recipe on pinterest that I want to try... Banana sticky toffee pudding. Yum!!! Cross your fingers that they ripen before my desire to bake burns off!

Hope your busy night goes well.

I bought bananas today just to make them go ripe. I have a banana donut recipe I'm itching to try out.

I'm so glad to see you back and to hear that you're doing well.

I was tired for months after my surgery. I think it just happens after being anesthetized. Take it easy!

Oh, Aimee.

We're going out in Waco on Saturday. I wish you were closer. You could come get drunk, I mean enjoy lunch with us. ;)

If you need an ear, you know where we are!

Get some rest, lady!

Oy. Is it Friday yet? :lmao:

I went shopping after work today. We're set for a few more weeks though. :cool1:

Tomorrow should be an easy day at work, and then Friday will be easy as well. Then, 3 day weekend!

UncleR and I will be going out for a lunch date this weekend. We need some time alone! :woohoo:

Tonight's dinner was pigs in a blanket and mac and cheese. It was easy and it hit the spot. :teeth:

Y'all have a good Wednesday evenin'!

Welcome back, Ellen! Glad to hear that things are slowing down somewhat!

We are getting wind, too. It's not fun! The sun is shining and the sky is blue, so the kids think they can go outside in shirtsleeves. Not fun when the temperature is only 40 degrees! That wind goes right through a person!

Good morning y'all!

Today is going to be an easy-going paperwork kinda day at work. Yay for that!

We decided to have one of those breakfast for dinner nights...either pancakes and waffles and bacon. :goodvibes

Y'all have a great Thursday!

Yay.... For the lunch date... I love when david and I meet for lunch, and have a nice date...

Last night for dinner, David found the last dish that I had perpped prior to surgery and he made some potatoes to go with...

Tonight he is on his own. He..he..he.. I am ready.

Popping in quickly. Not sure what's for dinner. I have no idea. I hope everyone is having a great day! :)
