The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

I'm back from the dr. she has a really bad case of infected tonsillitis. The dr didn't see any signs of strep & since she hasn't run fever she didn't test for it. She put her on antibiotics, told Chris to have her use Afrin to shrink the blood vessels. If the bleeding doesn't stop in a couple of days, she'll need to go back in. We're praying that this isn't the start of acute tonisillitis. She asked the dr if she was going to have to cut her again! :sad1:

Ellen, Have a fun date night!

I'm making breakfast for dinner, maple sausages, hash browns & maybe Becky's baked eggs.

Poor baby! Have they considered having the tonsils taken out? My sister had tonsilitis month after month for one year. There was not a month that she didn't have swollen tonsils, etc. When she finally had them taken out, the problems stopped.

Morning Y'all,

Nan, It does sound like teething or he is coming down with something. I hope it's just teething.

Laura, I'm really sad to hear that Greg is having pain & numbness in his arm. I know how difficult that is to deal with. I'll be praying extra hard for him! Obviously after having a hatchet job for a little cyst, I'm sure he doesn't want to undergo any other procedures!:flower3: hugs & prayers

Well ladies, Missy A already seems better this morning! Bob usually tries to wake her up, while I'm starting breakfast. He has a routine ( he can't get close to her bed because of his WC ) so first he starts calling her name. It never works I don't know why he keeps trying it. Then he starts playing " It's a Small World " on his phone & singing. This usually gets her awake but not usually in the happiest of moods. So this morning he does his usual, I hear him singing but didn't hear a peep out of her.

So picture this... Here comes Bob down the hall in his WC playing & singing " It's a Small World" He's got the biggest grin on his face & he says " Nana! I have a a doll from It's a Small World following me!" Then behind him I see her with her messy hair & sleepy face but she's got a big ole smile on her face & is doing the hula to the music. You know the fast hip swinging from the hawaiian dolls in the ride!! It was a great way to start the day!:cutie::lovestruc

Anyway, her tonsils still looked very swollen, she didn't have much of an appetite this morning. But she also didn't spit up anymore blood. So with her attitude, I have to assume she is improving!:goodvibes

Dinner tonight is going to be Chicken Paprikash & Hungarian Cucumber Salad. I'm hunting for a recipe that sounds just right. I while back I found some Hungarian Sweet Paprika & I've never used it before, so I'm excited about trying something new.

Oh they were. She was on the Fox morning show today and will be on GMA tomorrow morning. She has a link on her site to the video. She was making her cinnamon rolls, now I want to make them. :cloud9:

Her cinnamon rolls are to die for!!! Seriously good, and quite easy, too!! I'm addicted! I made them for Alan and he told me that if he wasn't already married to me, he would propose to me all over again just so I would make those for him

Glynis this is the first time she's had anything this bad. Although her tonsils almost always look swollen, she gets frequent sore throats, snores like a freight train & wakes up almost every morning coughing up mucus. Chris & I would both be pushing for a tonsillectomy if she hadn't had the appendectomy. She is scared to death of going into the hospital & "getting cut on" again! So for now we are going to take a wait & see attitude.

Those do look good, but I could never put as much icing on them as she does.

I hear you about the icing. However, it is so yummy! If you pour the icing on while the rolls are still hot from the oven, it sinks in to the middle of the roll, and infuses the whole thing! I love the maple flavor of the icing. It's so much better than just powdered sugar glaze.

I've also tried the cinnamon rolls with orange marmalade in the center and an orange glaze, and another time with blueberry jam, mini chocolate chips, and a chocolate glaze. So many variations, so little time!

I can totally understand her attitude. She's had a really rough year! I just hate to think of her going through the sore throat, etc. for much longer. She's in my prayers!

Dinner tonight is the Blue and Gold banquet. We are having pulled pork sandwiches, coleslaw, baked beans, and chips. And I don't have to cook any of it!

Nancy While dinner was really tasty. It was nothing more than chicken breast pounded with a Moroccan spice that I bought from Target and roasted garlic pearled couscous out a box. Juess I was tired after all that cooking so many dishes to wash you know :rotfl2::rotfl2:

That reminds me to go and get more spices.

We got some more snow last night. Did I mention I am ready for spring? :rolleyes1

Today is going to be a busy one. I am not sure if I'll get back here. Have a good day everyone.

Have a great busy day my friend.

Hoping Alexis gets quick relief with her medication.

Dinner tonight was black beans & rice.

I am so sad to see that you are still feeling poorly. I do know that I didn't start feeling better until the last time I went in. So hopefully after Monday you will be feeling much better. You gotta get packing!! :rotfl:

Just wanted to pop in quickly and say hello. It was another busy day. We leave for the Bahamas on Saturday and I feel like I've barely been home to pack and I feel so disorganized. Usually I'm already packed a few days before we go anywhere.

Get to packin girlfriend. The rest can wait, you have a vacation to get ready for. Oh I can feel the warm sun on my face . . . oh wait - I can't go right!!??

I'll be praying for her.

How are you feeling this morning?:lovestruc

Thanks Ladies for helping me think this through. I am going to continue making sure I am consistant as Marilyn suggested. He is very bright and Welby has said that she noticed that he does get what he wants elsewhere when he cries.

DInner is up in the air. I think i may have leftovers becasue we will not be able to have it on Friday.

This probably is not the problem at hand, but I ran an in home daycare for 12 years and the one thing to always remember - if a little one is all of a sudden fussy that they might be thirsty. They aren't old enough to tell you and heck they probably don't even know it themselves, but the next time when he is fussy, give him a drink of water. It is amazing how it works if that IS the problem. Just a thought!

This brought tears to my eyes. How utterly precious is this. I am so glad she is feeling better today.

How cute is this. I need to go find these rolls, if they are THAT good!!

Laura ~ I hope Greg gets to feeling better. I am sure it is so har knowing he feels yucky and you aren't closer. Elizabeth has a real hard time with that too. My prayers are with you all.

I woke up with a dern sinus infection this morning so I am feeling a bit under the weather. I NEVER get sick, I swear it is because I am with Ethan at school everyday and those little buggers have all sorts of germs. Whatever it is I am not a happy camper this morning. I HATE being sick. I have way to much to do to be sick.

WFDT ~ Chicken fried steaks, boiled potatoes with gravy and creamed corn.

Make it a great day my friends.

Did you happen to see my request for this recipe? I would really appreciate it if you would please share. Thanks!.

I did see it, but I have not actually tasted the soup yet, and I don't want to give you a recipe that is not any good! I hope it is tasty because it was very easy to make. I promise to heat up at least a small bowl when I get home and taste it for you, then I will post the recipe!

I'm back from the dr. she has a really bad case of infected tonsillitis.

Poor Alexis!! I am glad that she is feeling a little better today (loved the Small World story!), but it's too bad she had so much pain. I can understand why she does not want to go back to the hosptial though, poor baby.

Michelle, what island are you visiting in the Bahamas? Have you been there before? Abacos is on my someday list.

Becky, You are the EGG QUEEN!!! :worship: I fixed your baked eggs & while not nearly as pretty or as perfectly cooked as your eggs, they were absolutely wonderful!! Thank you, Thank you for that recipe!!!!

Thanks! I am glad that you liked them. It's a variation on (yet another) Barefoot Contessa recipe.

Last night I skipped out on eating the soup again and instead made chicken roulades stuffed with pecornio, currants, and pine nuts, and israeli couscous with cranberries and more toasted pine nuts, plus a salad. I have been taking pictures but not uploading. Maybe tonight I will put up the pictures.

WFD: I am thinking breakfast for dinner.

Love this!!!!!!!!!!:cloud9: Glad to hear she's feeling better.

Hey Gang,

I am still here....

DD is having a bad day today but finally sleeping. I gave her some motrin. Her bottom gum is real swollen. It wouldn't surprise me if she cut more than one tooth at once. I hear her now...she only slept and hour and wants to be held today.

I put the potty training on the back burner for now. It was starting to drive me insane ...just feeling stressed lately.

WFD- burgers (Hey...boring but it makes my guy happy!)

Aimee -- Congratulations to your sister! Buying things for girls is so fun. When Caili was a baby, Becky was determined not to buy anything pink, so Caili had all these beautiful outfits in purple, green, blue, etc. Of course, as soon as Caili could have any say in what she wore, she refused to wear anything other than pink. Have fun shopping! I'm so glad to hear you are feeling so well too.

 I figure sister will have the same experience - she'll have a daughter who turns out to be girly and frilly and all things pink.

:goodvibes How cute!! Glad she's a wee bit better today.

Hmmm, may need to try them! Course I hate to bake but maybe they aren't so much like baking... :rolleyes1

I am at work again today for awhile and doing okay. I would like to cook a meal, it's been awhile, but know I won't have the energy to make a list and hit the store after working all day so we are going out for BBQ.

I'm glad everyone is enjoying the Small World Story. I realize I'm a little goofy over Alexis. :rolleyes1 I do find it really funny the stuff Bob ends up doing for her too. Although he would never admit it, she's got him wrapped around her little finger too!;)

Ann, I'm sorry your baby girl isn't feeling well & that you are stressed! Prayers for a good nights sleep for all.

Aimee, Please don't push yourself too hard! Getting back to work is enough for one day! That was one heck of a surgery you had. Are you driving yourself already? That seems to soon! Congrats on the upcoming new little niece!

Nancy, 7 lbs worth of fun?! It don't get no better than dat!!

Have any of you ever cooked down chicken skin to make smaltz? This is the 2nd time I've done & it amazes me how much fat comes out of just a little bit of chicken skin. Makes me think twice about eating fried chicken for sure!

I'm hoping to cook tonight for Greg......he hasn't had a meal since my surgery Monday. I'm feeling guilty. I figure I will cook for a few days & then I have more surgery Monday so poor guy will be back to take out.

You could always put together a few meals to put in the freezer for him. :thumbsup2

I wasn't going to make them because it just seemed like too much but looking at that yesterday I decided to go ahead and just freeze some of them. And I was telling a coworker about them today and she said she'd pay me for a pan of them.

Dinner tonight is something with pulled pork, maybe enchilada's.

Becky, I am so sorry!! When I read what I posted my reply sounds so snotty. I sure did not mean for it to sound that way at all. When and if you have a minute I would love the recipe. Thanks so much.
