The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

Maria I can help you out on the hair part. I have enough hair for all of us. How do you feel about dark blond with a little gray thrown in? I need a color bad.

I am doing ok It is my friends that I'm worried about. I am a fixer and I can't fix this so it is driving me insane.

Janice-

First full day back at work... :sad2: I'm tired and want to go back to reading on the couch and doing nothing. :rotfl:

Not sure about dinner tonight, I was going to do the sesame noodles with shrimp again but couldn't get to the shrimp in the freezer last night and gave up. May just do them without the shrimp and heat up some little potsticker things I have in the freezer.

Marilyn I would love to sit on the couch and read. I started a new book I found at the library and just want to read it. I am trying to pace myself till thursday.

I still have 1 day left to use up before March 1 :rolleyes1 we can only get reimbursed for 10 days of vac and I have 11 oh the dilemma.

Oh leftovers again tonight. Did you hear today in national pancake day. PW has a really good looking cinamon bun pancake recipe. I only peeked but I close my eyes really quick. THAT is sooo not diet food pirate:

Hey! It's Monday......where is the chocolate??????? Becky, i always wondered why Monday meant chocolate, I would end up wanting it every day :rotfl2:

That was the first thing I thought of too. It's kinda of like where's waldo finding the chocolate, I love Laura's lunch boxes and am planning on buying some for me my husband and daughter. My oldest will be graduating from college in May and will be living and working in Boston. It would be a great habit for her to bring healthy lunches to work

wfd hot dogs ,beans and french fries, easy quick and my son will be filled up

I had a lot of books I had sitting here from the library and since I had a choice of reading or shoveling snow on my forced vacation I chose reading and let my 14yo godson do the shoveling. :rolleyes1 :rotfl:

I didn't know that but did see that recipe. :cloud9: Sounds so good, might have to make that the next time I take care of my DN's.

Ended up having hot dogs for dinner, had an open package I needed to finish. Going to make the noodles, minus the shrimp, for lunch tomorrow and have the leftovers with dinner tomorrow night. I have talapia out and am going to marinate the fish in part of the noodle sauce. I'll have it with some roasted asparagus.

I am sitting here going through cookbooks writing down the recipes I want to try. Then I am going to make a menu for next week. :thumbsup2

I've decided that besides being fat I'm now going bald so it's time for the Endocrinologist I'm very overdue for this visit.

I agree with Nan you are not fat. But if it makes you feel any better we can be bald and fat together. I am a stress eater and right now weigh more than I did pregnant. Also, I have had terrible hair loss this time around as well. You are beautiful inside and out so cut it out!!! At least you don't look like you should be making moon shine anymore. ;) XoXo.

Good morning everyone!

Maria, good luck at the dentist....that soudns really painful. Ugh.

Meatball subs were good last night. I could not even eat half, it was too much food, but John finished his. Here's a picture:

And here is today's breakfast/lunchbox. More fritatta, but no chocolate!

WFD tonight: rosemary shrimp skewers with pesto...I have not figured out the rest of the menu.

Good morning! We got in late last night, had a fantastic trip!!!!! Not sure if I'll have time to catch up here today or not, have tons of errands to run and loads of laundry...bbl....

WFD - Spaghetti & meat sauce, caesar salad and garlic bread.

Welcome back, Kathy!

Maria -- Good luck today!

Marilyn -- Becky makes a menu for every week as well. She is far more disciplined than I am.

Joanne -- Your daughter will also save a lot of money if she can get in the habit of bringing her lunch every day. She will love living and working in Boston. Becky and I sure did!

I didn't end up making the meatball sub last night because it was too late to start cooking once I got Caili home from skating. I just ended up having some of the leftover Indian food from Monday. Tonight I have some baby bok choy to use, so I will probably do a noodle bowl. I may stop at the fish market to get some scallops too.

So...yesterday....

I was going to go to at least 2 parades with some friends from the DIS, but they backed out ahead time because of the cold.

So I ended up going with a friend from work and her sister who just flew in from out of town. The one from work has lived here about a year and a half. They're both from upstate NY. Well, we get there and they decide they are TOO COLD so they leave. Also, they were only going to watch the first parade because the sister wanted to see more of NOLA than just parades since it's her first time here....fair enough, but I didn't want to watch the parade alone!

But I didn't want to just go home - I wanted to do SOMETHING!! So another friend was going to a different (not as cool...Sorry Grela but you're not as cool as Zulu or Rex!) parade that was decidedly more "family friendly" than the one I had planned to watch. However, it was still fun so all was not lost. :lmao: There were actually two small parades (Grela and Bes) and we were sitting around eating chicken in between catching beads. This parade was throwing some of the most bizarre stuff....like clearly some of it was from the dollar store. :lmao: One kid near us caught a calculator! :confused3:rotfl:

I did get to see some of the craziness of some walking groups and see some of the costumes over near the Quarter before I left Zulu (before it even started) and next year I want to actually GO to Zulu and Rex and the truck parades but maybe next year will be warmer (wouldn't take much...it was "feels like 36" yesterday morning).

After the two parades I did see, we went to the store to get a king cake and then I went to Popeye's for lunch and then I went home and just relaxed. I'm hoping to be a little more productive today!

Kathy - I'm glad your trip was so good! Welcome Home!

Gretchen - Your stories about playing in the snow had me :lmao::rotfl:

Vickie - Are you feeling any better?

Glynis - Your stories from Valentine's Day were sweet.

Lauri (up north) - I hope you're feeling better.

Janice & Maria - to you both.

:grouphug: All around!

Good morning, everyone! I'm happy to report that the butter chicken was a success... at least for me and Alan. Katie ate it, but hated the brown rice I used. The other kids saw all the cooked tomatoes, and immediately decided they hated it. They ate their required bites, and that was it. Too bad for them! I loved it, so it goes into the keeper file!

Michelle - I did the WDW half marathon in 2007. It was the best experience of my life! I only ran about 5 of the miles and "wogged" the rest. I still managed to finish ahead of the sweepers! It was awesome! My niece wants to do the marathon there in the next couple of years, so I told her I'd do it with her.

Alan told me several weeks ago that he was going to do the 5K on St. Patty's day, but there was never any mention of me doing it with him until day before yesterday when he told me that he had signed both of us up for it, and paid the fee. Grrr. I can't back out when there's money on the line.

Yesterday was crazy!!! I'm really glad it's over, although I don't see today being any great improvement. Oh well! Dinner tonight will be something very easy. I'm thinking tuna pizza. It's fast, and I can have Katie put it together so I can work on my homework. I'm falling farther and farther behind!

Have a great day, everyone!

Good morning friends!

Ann - sorry the new recipe was bad. I hate when that happens!

Glynis - is her butter chicken an Indian butter chicken or just a butter chicken?

Bethany - glad you still got to see some parades, darn that it's so cold!

My new chandelier just arrived and I can't wait until DH gets home to put it up :cool1: And yes, you may remember what I bought a chandelier last year but I decided it wasn't really what I wanted  This is the new one:

L11738288.jpg

Um, last I heard dinner was being brought over nightly but we haven't heard from anyone. So, if we don't hear from anyone I guess we'll get something out or I'll send DH to the store to buy ingredients for a few easy meals he can do.

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:That cracked me up!!!! True the front tooth is fixed.
Your all a great fan club but I have gained lots of weight plus after a shower it looks like a hamster is sitting on the drain.

Aimee, the chandelier is beautiful.

Lauren, glad your home safe & sound.

Kat, welcome home.

No dentist for me today...I canceled this morning. I'm just not up to it so I'll deal with the tooth pain a few more days.

Ann and Maria- you're both cracking me up!

Glynis- My only goal is to finish ahead of the sweepers. I'll be very disappointed in myself if I spent all the money to register and have us all go down for the weekend and then not get my medal. I'm planning to run about 5 miles myself and power walk the rest. Did you walk all 5 at once or spread it out?

Aimee- I seriously love the chandelier

Bethany- sounds like your day turned out great!

Becky- what is in the lower right hand corner of the box? It looks great

Well I never got to make my fish taco salad last night. Mike wound up needing to work very late so I wound up making a pasta dish that he could easliy re-heat when he got home. Tonight is my 3rd attempt to make it. Seriously my avocados are going to grow legs and walk right out the house if I don't use them today.

My SIL is in rare form with the gifts this year. She's married to Mike's brother. Well she told her kids she's get my MIL to buy them healeys for their birthdays. My MIL said "we'll see, I already had something in mind for each of you." My SIL apparently said "oh I thought your grandma might want to buy you something you actually want for once" and stormed out of the restaurant with the kids. The reason I know this story is my SIL told me herself trying to convince me how horrible my MIL is. Unfortunately she didn't get the sympathy she was looking for from me.

:scared1: Not only can I not imagine saying that, I certainly wouldn't admit it to anyone. How horrible. But my brother is just as bad. My mother bought a toy for his son for Valentines Day. When he opened it, my mother told my brother she thought the baby would like it because of the sounds it made. My brother told her "He loves it. He already has one."

Gretchen -- I did find the skating for Caili. NBC has been putting events on their Olympics page, so she was able to watch everything. Good thing! They haven't been as good about putting the events in the On Demand feature.

I'm so glad! I was hoping she was able to watch all the events she was interested in. It's just so hard when they are young and bedtime is before "primetime".

Today is Fat Tuesday and I'm not celebrating with pancakes like usual. I can't believe Ash Wednesday is tomorrow! I don't think you can "love" a service like Ash Wednesday but it really is one of my favorite services of the year... I thought about dragging myself up there but really don't think I can. Darn. I also haven't decided what to give up yet. I wanted to just give up 50 cm of intestine and my appendix but I think that's cheating =)

:lmao::lmao: Love the new chandelier, btw.

I am doing ok It is my friends that I'm worried about. I am a fixer and I can't fix this so it is driving me insane.

Did I miss this post? I don't remember you worrying about your friends. And to answer your question, Jessica is about the same.

I had a lot of books I had sitting here from the library and since I had a choice of reading or shoveling snow on my forced vacation I chose reading and let my 14yo godson do the shoveling.

 Good choice!

 Holy cow, I think I would have died laughing.

I think that is still really good. I would have to wogg more than that - with more emphasis on the "w" than the "og" in my case.

No dentist for me today...I canceled this morning. I'm just not up to it so I'll deal with the tooth pain a few more days.

:lmao::lmao: That is horrible of me to laugh at your problem, but woman, you are way too funny! But on a serious note, cancelling the appointment?!? I can't imagine how you are tolerating the pain for this long. GO TO THE DENTIST!!!!! (Insert mother smilie, shaking her finger at you here).

Dinner tonight is hamburgers on my grill pan (too cold to go outside).

I tried my best to catch up here but I'm sure I missed someone or something, please forgive me.:guilty:

Janice - You are such a wonderful friend, I know how it must be for you to feel like you can't "fix things".

Glynis - Good luck to you & Alan on the race!:thumbsup2

Maria - Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers with your dental issues and you ARE NOT fat!

Ellen - Prayers for you too with the toothache! I, too, have to apologize. My box for Jay was ready to be shipped when he came in during the holidays and it is still sitting here.:sad2:

Lauren - Know that you can call me anytime. I'm glad you'll have the house to keep you busy.

Aimee - Take it easy please, love the new chandelier!!!!

Vickie - Happy to hear your nephew is progressing so well.

Wendie - Don't feel bad about lurking, we all have trouble keeping up at times.

Michelle - Your SIL is something else!

Gretchen - Your snow story had me cracking up!:rotfl2:That's one smart girl you've got there! You should have caught Kenny & the dog on tape! How is Jessica doing?

Sheryl - Congrats on the BLT points! I'm not sure what was wrong with my cell phone but I was texting you for two days and didn't hear from you.:guilty:

Laura - Glad to hear Greg's surgery went well. How is he?

Lauri D - So sad about DH's co-worker's wife. My prayers are with them as well as your cousin.

Lauri U - Sorry about DD's break-up, how is she doing?

Bethany - Sounds like you enjoyed your Mardi Gras!!!

I had to read this over about 5 times till i got it....I swear I have the mind of a 20yrs old frat boy sometimes !! :rolleyes1
