The What's For Dinner Thread - March '11 (recipe index in OP)

Dad just called and there are no tumors in liver kidneys gallbladder pancrease so thurs is a stress test now they are worried about his heart:eek:

Thank God! Keeping him in my prayers that his stress test will be fine!

I have not had the chance to check back, but I just wanted to let you all know I am thinking about you. Life has just been so crazy, and stressful, the past couple of weeks. I think things should settle down soon.

Your are in the home stretch!

Anyone watching So You Think You Can Dance? AMAZING group of dancers this season!!!!!

They are amazing! I don't have a favorite couple yet but I can tell you that like Aimee and you, I loved the statues dance! It was amazing!

I sure wish I could bottle up some of this rain and flooding we are getting. I guess it's feast or faminie anymore. There are so many places that are burning up and we are flooding. We got 1 1/2" Wednesday night and another 2" last night on top of all the snow run off that hasn't even gotten here yet, we really are in big trouble. It is cloudy and looks to rain any minute.

Your neck of the woods cannot catch a break! I worry about all of you in that area :grouphug:

Princess- those pictures were incredible!

Dinner was good last night. The man we have been partnering in to bring labor over from Jamaica came to dinner with his wife. I grilled sirloin with that marvelous rub Buddy bought. Served with Italian Haricots vertes and grape tomatoes, corn, green salad and roasted potatoes and onions. I bought a Boston Cream Pie but no one was hungry for dessert. We are grateful that they are on the same page that we are in regards to how the guys are compensated. I cannot stand stingy people when it comes to paying people to work. This job is back breaking and while our farm is tiny Bill's is not. Bill and his wife are making sure that these guys are welll taken care of!

DInner tonight is out to the Chowder Pot with friends!

BCB- I forgot to tell you your little swimmer is cute!

Will you all keep this clumsy chicken in your thoughts today? I made a cup of tea last night and was bringing it to my room, forgot that I moved Rylee's caterpillar and hooked my flippy in it, sailed into the air and landed on my left knee, bounced back up, flipped and came down on my right shoulder. I was not a pretty sight flopped in a puddle of tea :headache: Buddy got me up, I was too shocked at myself to even figure out how to move.....but I am in a lot of pain this morning. I made an appointment this afternoon. I am not worried about any of that......do you all remember the fiasco of my last MRI....the one that never happened???????? That is what I am afraid of. I will never watch House again!

Oh sweetie, you poor thing. Prayers for your visit to the Dr. today. Hope you are alright, albeit the soreness.

Lauri ~ so glad the news about Dad is looking up. Prayers for his heart now are on the way.

Bethany ~ have a blast with your friend.

Kat ~ I am so sorry that Kyle didn't like the new job. That just stinks!! Hope he finds something else out there.

BCB ~ so glad you are feeling better

Princess in OZ ~ Those pictures are awsome. Thanks for sharing.

Janice ~ I hear you on the rain - ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!! It's getting very scary around here. Roads closed, businesses closed, people evacuated and we haven't even gotten the worst yet. :scared1:

Aimee ~ Hopefully your car will be as good as new real soon.

I know I have missed a bunch of you, but know I always have you in my heart.

Lauri – Still thinking of and praying for Dad.

Ellen – I sure wish you could bottle that rain, it sure is a feast or famine situation.

Nan – Glad to hear your dinner and meeting went well last night, but so sorry to hear about your fall. Sending prayers and hugs.

Anyone ever try those frozen Buitoni shrimp & lobster ravioli? I'm not feeling up to cooking and they are sitting in the freezer. I can throw a salad together and call it dinner.

MIL has stopped eating, which is not good but I keep praying that God’s will be done.

Wishing all the Dads and Hubbys in our group a Happy Father’s Day.

Kathy I am sorry your MIL is doing so poorly. My prayers go out to Johnny,Kyle and you. There is never an easy way.

I am beyond busy lately. For some reason I have gotten behind in everything and no easy solution.

 to everyone.

tonight is pizza. I have to get my house in order and then a graduation party tomorrow. Mr A is cooking dinner for his dad on Sunday so I need to get things organized for him.

Oh I almost forgot I found an easy recipe for Cream soda.

Homemade Cream Soda

2 Tbsp corn syrup
6 Tbsp vanilla syrup ( I bought the syrup from Starbucks)
12 oz seltzer
ice and a tall glass.

This make 1 drink

And yes Kathy you could add liquor of your choice.:thumbsup2

Amy how long are you with out your car yet?

They are hoping to have it to me Tuesday at the latest. The bill ended up being much more than estimated once they ordered everything they needed - thank goodness for insurance!

Ouch!! I'm sorry  Let us know what the doc says.

MIL has stopped eating, which is not good but I keep praying that God’s will be done.

My BFF leaves in the metroplex but on the clear other side (seriously - we could not be any further away from each other!) and it takes over an hour to visit each other (WITHOUT any traffic!). I've been meaning to go visit her since Christmas, still have gifts laying here wrapped in XMas wrap, and she had a baby a couple of months ago that I still hadn't met. I finally hauled my butt over there today and had such a good time playing with her 4 kiddos and catching up.

I did hit traffic on the way back so I got home way too late to even think about cooking anything.

:rotfl2: My idea of a great cocktail! Seriously....even without the alcohol I am so going to try this! Donny, Daniel and Erica do not drink and most of the time Marisa does not either so having something I can make fresh is wonderful!

What is he making?

.

I still cannot figure out how you manage what you do, never mind traveling like this to visit!

WE have Kady today and tonight so I am not sure what we will do for dinner. Marisa is taking Jeff to a Red Sox game and the time got changed to 7PM so she will be here all night. Marisa told me Jeff is besides himself, they have seats behind home plate I think.

BCB- you are a cook so I have to ask you if you smoke your meals? My son Donny has become obsessed with charcoal and has turned his nose up at his gas grill. He saw a killer charcoal grill that was 50% off and was still over $600. He is a "frugal" guy and was still considering it until I suggested he keep looking for the exact one he wants. He wants a smoker and is starting to look into it.

I have to talk about the plans for Anna's shower. Marisa and Erica are sick to death of it so here I am! A breakfast shower at the B&B where I had Janice's Bridal tea. It is at 10:30 on a Saturday mornign so how does this sound and am I missing anything?

Little Blueberry pancakes
Mini French Toast
herbed scrambled eggs
a baked ham
breakfast sausage
fruit bowl
coffee, tea, orange juice and cranberry juice

After the gifts I am going to order a chocolate raspberry cake for her and will serve with iced tea and lemonade. The shower is in July so I think we will need cold drinks.

Welby is making the favors for me. Mini body butters and I think body scrubs. I think she is making waterlily and one other kind.

Is there anything I should add?

The rehearsal dinner is also there so that I can have Anna's out of town relatives and Donny's aunts and uncles. There's room to let everyone spread out and mingle like they could at my house but I don't have to do the work. IT is in September so her goes.

Roast pork and applesauce
Chicken Francais
Big green salad ( no funky stuff so that Buddy does not complain about eating weeds and fruit :rotfl:)
Roasted potatoes and some kind of veg

rolls and butter

Cold drinks and I may make wine

I forgot to ask the innkeeper about dessert but I think maybe apple crisp and ice cream.

I had not decided what to give Anna as a special gift from me so I decided to rent the rooms there so that she and her family and bridal party could have that night and the following day to prepare for the wedding. She was having most of the family stay at their home and I was :scared1::eek:. Too much commotion for a Bride! The innkeeper said that she could have her pictures taken there and use the grounds, have her flowers delivered there and then leave from there for the venu. Donny was :cloud9: because he was not sure how to give her the space that she needed and felt that this would be a respite for all of them. They will go back there on their wedding night. I was able to have all of this the dinner and the rental of the room and their wedding night for the same money I spent on Erica's wedding gown, which was my gift to her for her wedding.

Not sure about dinner tonight. I am going to try to grill chicken tonight but they are calling for more rain.pirate: so I may have to cook inside.

Tomorrow Mr A is making blackened catfish, Aimee's mac n cheese, hushpuppies , green beans. I'll make a Dreamsicle cake, I was going to decorate it but with everything I have to do I'll be lucky to get frosting on it.:rotfl:

Today we have a block party in our cul de sac. I don't know what people are bringing, but I am supplying pulled pork, potato salad, deviled eggs, and 100 soft pretzels.

I imagine there will be the usual picnic style foods.

Janice & Aimee – thanks for the kind words of support and hugs, means a lot to us.:grouphug:

Janice – your crème soda, including alcohol of my choice;), sounds like a winner! I’m impressed with Alex’s menu, you did good Mom.:thumbsup2

Aimee – I’m so glad you got to catch up with your BFF, sounds like a nice way to spend the day.

Nan – Anna’s shower plans sound great! The only thing I would add would be a nice applewood smoked bacon. Your gift to Anna is PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!

BCB – Block party = good times!

WFD –Taking Johnny to his favorite restaurant, Ruth’s Chris steakhouse tonight.

Kat- What a nice Father's Day meal!

Janice- ambitious meal! Good for Alex! The other night I bought a cake so I get how icing is an extra!:lmao: Have you shared the Dreamsicle cake recipe? Buddy loves orange anything.

BCB- Welby and I have been talking about a neighborhood block party. We have been stumped because of some of the neighbor dynamics so it ends up going nowhere. How does your neighborhood get past that? I fell like we miss out on so much. Last week if the power was not back on by Friday dinner Welby had invited the neighborhood to my driveway for pot luck and I was really looking forward to it. She and I had quite a bit of meat thawed and while it would not have gone bad I would not freeze it, the generator was keeping the refrigerator going but it had been off for a period of time.

Hi, everyone! I'm back for a bit. The documentary is, for all intents and purposes, done! It's been a long ride! The powers that be are watching it this weekend, and hopefully will not have any changes that they want made. So, it's all over but the duplicating, now!

Alan left for Japan last Sunday morning, so the kids and I decided to pack up and visit grandpa while he was gone. It was a great trip, and we enjoyed relaxing! Got home late yesterday, and spent the remainder of the day getting Katie and Jacob ready for their Pioneer trek that leaves on Monday morning. I think we're done with that, now, so we can focus on Father's day today. Alan gets home from Japan tonight, so the kids and I will spend today making gifts for him.

I'm heading back to catch up, now. Just thought I'd let you all know that I'm still alive, and thinking about you!

I am finished for now with the outside weeding and mowing. I cleaned up and painted my toes and finger nails :thumbsup2. Darn I think I can't do anything more outside:rotfl2:

Nancy I am not sure if I posted the recipe before. I will later. I halfed the recipe I will let you know if it needs to be tweaked before I post it. I got it from a cake decorators website I frequent.

The mac n cheese and the cake we will do tonight. The rest of A's meal is easy. It will be easier if it is grill weather:worship:

Glynis I am glad you are finished with the documentary. That must feel good. I am glad you and the kids had a chance to spend time with your dad.

Nancy Other than maybe a mini muffin I think Anna's menu sounds wonderful. A lemon poppyseed or a orange marmalade muffin would be nice.

MIL has stopped eating, which is not good but I keep praying that God’s will be done.

My prayers are with you all. Hang in there my dear friend.

Nan ~ your plans sound just amazing. And what a thoughtful gift.

Janice ~ I am so impressed with Mr. A's plans for Father's Day. What a lucky Dad he has.

Glynis ~ welcome home my friend - you are always missed. I am so glad the documentary is complete as I am sure you are too. Can't wait to hear how they like it.

Aimee ~ so glad you had such a good time with your BFF. Sometimes thoses are the best of all times.

BCB ~ have fun tonight at you block party. I am somewhat jealous of all of you with neighboors. That is the trade off of living in the country. Our closest neighboor is 1/2 mile away.

Beautiful day in the neighboorhood, well at least until later tonight and the rains set in. Rain rain go away - we have enough!!

We are getting ready to head to the Country Club and play 18 holes. When we get home we are making a new recipe - Black bean & Beef sliders with cole slaw. If they are good I will post the recipe.

I am also going to make some peanut butter ice cream in my new Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker. I got it when I was in Omaha on Tuesday. I have been wanting one for awhile now and it was on sale so it went home with me.
;)

WFDT ~ Black bean & Beef sliders, coleslaw, chips and ice cream for dessert.

Make it a great day my friends.

Popping in quickly to say that MIL has made major improvement in the last 24 hours, it's truly amazing. Her appetite is back and she's more alert!:goodvibes Thanks to all for the prayers.:grouphug:

Was it do to Brown's fried chicken wings? My grandmother went through a time where she refused to eat. My dad got an idea to bring her Brown's. After that she would tell the story of how Brown's saved her life. Mostly people think fried chicken kills but no it saved her.

Seriously I am so glad she has found something to live for. That is so important for her to know she still matters to you all.

We are back home from the graduation for the time being then we are going out to eat.:woohoo:
