We are staying off site, going to rent a wheel chair once we get into park but was wondering the easiest way (least amt of walking). My niece is handicapped, can walk short distances, not sure how far it is. Was wondering if preferred parking would help. She does have a handicap parking permit......

The distance between the parking lots used for the MK and wheelchair and the MK gates is significant. While there is a walking path I that goes through both the Polynesian and Grand Floridian resorts, almost everyone takes either a ferry across the lake or a monorail around the lake. There's a ramp up to the monorail that is very, very long.

You can, without a disabled plate, ask a cast member to direct you to medical parking. It is in the same lot at disabled parking. Disabled parking is marked in blue or white. Medical parking is in other colors. If you park in disabled parking without a tag, you may get a very expensive ticket.

There are often, but not always, wheelchairs at the lot that you can borrow (at no cost) to use on the ferry or monorail. The wheelchairs are not in the best of shape. There may or may not be a chalr to borrow on return. That can make for a very, very tiring end of day.

If you park in "regular" TTC parking, a tram will bring you from your car to the ferry/monorail center. There is a step up to board the tram- think a golf cart train.

There is not really a good way to drop a guest off and then park. You cannot park at the deluxe hotels unless you have a hotel or dining reservation. Non-overnight guests are generally restricted to three hours' parking.

This is one of those situations where it's helpful to bring your own equipment or stay onsite so that you have access to Disney's transportation.

Safe travels!

I would park in handicapped since she has the tag. The walk to the ferry/monorail isn't fun BUT they have a row of parking lot wheelchairs there you can use from the car to the transportation and in reverse. Preferred is next to it but further. If you park in regular, she'd get the tram straight to the same security point you would walk to from the special parking. But depending on where they park you on the aisle her walk to tram could be longer too. In handicapped you could drop her at pink dot first then go find a spot ... reverse when leaving.

From security to ferry/monorail it is the same for everyone.

Red - Handicapped and it also goes to lot to right if first gets full.
Green - Preferred
Orange - Security check and walking to monorail and ferry
Pink Dot - Parking lot wheelchairs station
