The What's For Dinner Thread - March '11 (recipe index in OP)

Happy Birthday Laura!!!

Lauren- Nothing worse than a recorder- even people who are good at it sound awful!

Ellen- Sounds like a fantastic weekend.

Becky- You really make me want to practice poaching eggs. I cheat and use a little insert for the pan but I don't love how they come out.

Marisa- I would cut the bacon in small pieces and cook it all. Then freeze it cooked and ready to go for future recipes. I love knowing I have bacon ready to go in the freezer.

Julie- The pork looks so good.

Kathy- Congratulations to Kyle's team! Hope things are working out well with his car.

Has anyone heard if the Southwest fiasco is affecting Gretchen? Hope she makes it home without any trouble.

Well here's a suprise, it's cold and rainy. Who would have thought. It's days like this I wonder why in the world people come to Cape Cod, and they are already starting to come. Anyway, we are having bbq shredded chicken on cornbread with onions and cheddar for dinner. I think I'll make 'Ohana green beans to go with it. It will hit the spot on a yucky day.

I haven't read back yet...got the call from our insurance company, the car is a total loss.:sad1:

Thirty years ago today I married my best friend. Here's to 30 more - God willing!!!

Happy Anniversary! 30 years is something to be proud of! :lovestruc

Had my first day on the new job, it was good but had its awkward moments as all new jobs do. I was introduced to/or introduced myself to the folks who were there between 8 and 10 but when the library opened at 10 several other workers arrived along with door opening and it got so busy so fast that I missed out on meeting a few. I got a schedule with names so that will help me figure out who is who.

WFDT = rotissiere chicken so making chicken noodle casserole, peaches, veggies and dip and something else undetermined yet, maybe rolls??

Hi all!

Kathy - Congrats to Kyle on the win, but Boo to the car! Sorry that you will have to deal with that!

Laura - Happy Birthday!!!! I hope it's a good one! Your birthday meal looked good (thanks, Becky).

Julie - That pork looks so good! I'm definitely going to try that!!!

Vic - Way to go on the first day of your new job! I'm sure that it was exciting, nerve wracking, etc. But how fun!!!

Marisa - Thanks for the offer of the 2 books, but I've read both of them. I loved Water for Elephants!!!

Nancy - Movie theater popcorn is my undoing! I love it!!! I was so proud of myself for passing it up on Friday when Alan and I went to the movies. Was this your first time watching HP?

Lauren - Timothy is awfully proud of his bodily noises, too! It makes for some strange looks as we're walking the aisles of the supermarket, and other places. Oh well. It's a good thing they're so cute, huh?

Dinner tonight will be PW's sour cream noodle bake again. I have all the stuff, and so I'm going to try it with part sour cream, and part cream cheese. Yum!!! Comfort food!!!!

Lauren Glynis It must be a guy thing. Someone whom I am no longer married too taught A those questionable talents.:rolleyes1 including the pulling of the finger and various others, Those were the know as the dark days of the child's developement. We had wonderful teacher conferences.

Tonight is probably going to be a leftover night. Mr A wants to go to his Karate class. I am beat, I would love to stay home.

We had some really loud storms move throught last night so that left me awake with a scared little Minnie.

Thirty years ago today I married my best friend. Here's to 30 more - God willing!!!

Happy anniversary.

Just got home from the gym and I'm beat! Dinner is salmon, oven fries and green beans.

Aimee, I have to say that if DH did that he would be chopped up into pieces and put in the freezer!! We don't switch cars well. He has a little altima and I feel like I am sitting on the floor. He hates my truck because he took it one day and smashed it up and it had $12K in damage. :headache: I had only had it 4 months!! So if he took it again, i would shoot him!!! :rotfl2:

I would have been ticked that he wrecked my new car!! I was pretty livid about him taking mine. More than I'm willing to admit, actually

Happy Anniversary! Sounds like a great weekend!

I haven't read back yet...got the call from our insurance company, the car is a total loss.:sad1:

Aw, man!! I'm sorry. I've had two totaled cars (and only two wrecks - when I go out, I go big!) and it's a PITA.

Had my first day on the new job, it was good but had its awkward moments as all new jobs do.

Glad it went well!!

We had those bad storms last night, too, with lots of hail and really high winds. Part of our fence is now falling down so we're trying to figure out the best way to repair it. Well, DH and his dad are figuring it out

I went out of town most of the day for a conference and had lunch with a good friend for almost 2 hours and it was so good for my soul. Then, back to work to edit the newsletter! Long long day, esp since all 3 dogs were on the bed last night due to the storm and I got little sleep!

We are eating out tonight - I worked too late to get to the store in time.

Thanks for the birthday wishes!! It was not the most exciting birthday since it was a Monday and the weather was terrible, but I got a call from a friend of mine from college, which was unexpected, and Caili made me all kinds of things for a present. She wrote me a poem, she made a couple origami animals, and she gave me a handmade card. It was sweet. Liam gave me a hug. Dinner was brie, baguette, apple slices, cheddar cheese, olives and roasted asparagus. I took Caili for new skates today, so we stopped at the cheese shop for supplies for dinner.

Ellen -- Happy Anniversary to you and Doug!

Its about 1 - 1/2 pounds and its yucky weather, so comfort food ideas would be nice!!

Since you don't have Caili eating it, it is probably too much bacon for one meal. Like others have said, you can just cook all of it and then refrigerate or freeze what you don't use for later. The Le Cellier cheddar cheese soup calls for bacon.

Anything to drive me nuts!

I think Liam takes pride in driving me nuts. He is a great kid, but he thinks it is really funny to be annoying. :confused3

Nothing worse than a recorder- even people who are good at it sound awful!

Just when I managed to get Liam's recorder out of the house, Caili brought another one in. She is a talented kid in many ways, but oh my, is she so terrible on the recorder.

I haven't read back yet...got the call from our insurance company, the car is a total loss.:sad1:

I'm sorry.

We had some really loud storms move throught last night so that left me awake with a scared little Minnie.

When Caili and I were on the way to the skate shop there was a thunderclap so loud, it shook the car. I hope Minnie is doing better and you get a better sleep.

Aimee -- Glad you got a little downtime with a friend.

Laura- What a nice birthday! You had me chuckling about the recorder, Dan started playing the trumpet in the 5th grade and he was TERRIBLE! Marisa used to pay him her popcorn if he would practice outside. Imagine my surprise when he entered the middle school and told me he was trying out for the jaxx band....he made it and was lead in a year. I still remember that bleating we listened to for a year thoughn:scared1:

Ellen_ Happy 30th anniversary! I met Buddy 20 years ago so we have a lot in common dear friend!

Dinner was a treat. We went to a growers meeting and they gave us dinner. Lots of friends and good food!

Sheryl - I had to tell you about my dream last night.

You posted on here that you would not be around for a while because you were going to trek the Sahara desert.
Much to my surprise you knocked on my door because it was on your way,I did argue that NOLA-BONNYRIGG-SAHARA seemed like the long way round but hey !!
You did bring me Drew Brees's phone number  so when you asked me to do the trek with you I could not say no......well,you,me, John McEnroe and Joey from Friends!!! :confused3
Dont know what was funnier,us eatin Gumbo in the desert or playin doubles with Mac and Joey !!!!!

:rotfl2:

Vickie I do love your dreams. :lmao::lmao: What do you eat before you sleep?

We ended up staying home last night. The Boy had soo much homework. I don't understand how in high school the projects have to be done in 1 night vs 1-2 wks in middle school:confused3

I think dinner tonight will be chicken and roast asparagus. I love spring cause I love asparagus:love:

Good morning! Sorry I didnt get back yesterday. We had a last minute baseball meeting to attend so I was a bit rushed.

Last night we had asian flank steak, rice a roni and broccoli...it was so good.

Tonight is a roaster chicken in the crock pot...it has been marinating in a dry rub over night. Yum! I know stove top will be on the menu. Not sure of what else yet.

We are having really bad storms so I should be home today to catch up. Gotta run now and get the house in somewhat of order. The dry wall guy is coming soon to finish fixing the nail pops.

Have a great day my Friends!

Good morning!

Vickie - Your dream has me :rotfl2:!!!!

WFD - Roasted garlic chicken, pasta salad and broccoli.

Vickie- you and your dreams, what are you eating before bedtime lady? :rotfl:

Started back on WW yesterday and did pretty good. Had enough points left over that I got to have toast with peanut butter and jelly last night as my snack.

Nasty day here, rainy, windy and under tornado watches until 10am.

You silly!! You married him 20 years ago. You met him about 30 years ago!!! Maybe its the whole "time flies when your having fun" thing.... :rotfl2:

Aimee, I was more than ticked, but he hurniated two discs in his back and was out on disability, so I felt bad for him also. (But secretly irritated)

Glynis, Did you see that Water for Elephants comes out April 22nd in the theatres? I have a friend that sends me EPUB books and she sent me 1200. I havent read them all but I wish I had the time to!!

Laura, Jeff eats a pound of bacon by himself! I ended up cutting it thick and rendering the fat and then making a big pot of baked beans. I think I am the only one in the house that likes them though :confused3

I have a meeting for Relay for Life tonight, so we are having leftovers and then heading out in the rain :sad1:

Have a great day everyone!

Ellen, Happy Anniversary!

Vickie, you crack me up!

Kathy, I am sorry about the car.

WFD: Lemongrass-turkey thai meatballs in lettuce cups (a recipe from the current Bon Appetit), and summer rolls.

Vickie -- You have the funniest dreams!

Dan started playing the trumpet in the 5th grade and he was TERRIBLE!

I don't mind the trumpet. Liam has one, although now that he is no longer in band, he rarely plays it. I am keeping it in the hope he will pick it up again. The recorder though...even when it's good, it's bad.

Dinner tonight is sesame chicken wings, wild rice and sugar snap peas (unless they are bad. I can't remember when I bought them. If they aren't fresh, I'll make green beans instead.)

Laura- I thought Liam enjoyed band, I hated it but the trips in highschool were great. My daughter plays sax, and she's really good at it but is getting bored. I really hope she sticks it out though. Her teacher is giving her some more challenging music so I hope that helps.

Marilyn- Hope the weather passes quick, stay safe.

Aimee- Hope your dad has luck with the fence. My dad just got home from 3 months in Florida, I need to make him a list! My husband works so much that my dad helps me around the house with projects, I'm just not brave enough to try them on my own yet.

Kathy- I'm sorry about the car. I hope it's not to much trouble to get it taken care of.

Tonight we are having ricotta gnocchi and spinach gnocchi with chicken sausage. I have a few containers of ricotta that only cost me pennies, but now they are getting close to the sell by date so I need to use it up. Have a great day all!
