The What's For Dinner Thread - March '11 (recipe index in OP)

I had tonight's dinner all planned but now I forgot what that dinner might be:rolleyes1 I'll be back when I get my dinner settled.

Checking in after Friday night's Fish and Chip dinner.

Hope everyone is well.

Weather is crazy in this part of the world as well. We've had the wettest summer and now look like we're heading into a very cold and wet winter....well, cold for us.

I've had a very full on week at work and am looking forward to my weekend.

Quick fly by to let you know I am still alive! :goodvibes I am taking A to the airport to go to NJ this weekend so no baseball games this weekend! :cool1: I should have time to get back on track here!

I have pork chunks marinating in a peanut/asian marinade and will make kabobs and serve over tossed salad. We are trying to be good before vacay and I am really liking kabobs lately!

Today is A's last full day of school! :woohoo: We made it through the school year!

Have a great day and a great weekend my Friends!

Good morning!

Lauren - Congrats to A for making it through another school year and hoping he has a safe flight!

WFD - Kyle's birthday is tomorrow and he'll be celebrating with his friends so we're taking him out to dinner tonight. He wants seafood so off to ACME Oyster House we go!;)

Question for all you foodies: I got 2 bulbs of jicama in my bountiful basket last week, and I'm not sure how to use it. Anyone got any good recommendations? Thanks!

Glynis, I like to add jicama to fruit salsas. A typical one could be chopped mango, jicama, red peppers, red onions, cilantro, lime juice, red wine vinegar, and sugar, salt and pepper to taste. Sometimes I put in balck beans too.

You can also just slice it into matchsticks and eat it as a snack. It is very crunchy and juicy. When I do this, I toss it with a little lime juice and chili powder, but you could eat it plain too. It will discolor after a while, so slice it right before you want to eat it.

Well y'all, I'm finally coming out of my cave and getting a smart phone! I'm really getting excited!

Whoohoo! :) What kind are you getting? I came out of the phone cave late too. I just learned how to text about 6 months ago! :rotfl2: My old phone was sooooo old. At least 5 years old--maybe even older. It took about forever to send one text message. John finally had pity on me and bought me an iphone 4 a couple of months ago.

WFD: John and I are going out to dinner and then to the Red Sox.

I took the easy way out and ordered the same phone Kyle has so he can help me with it. It's Verizon's LG Ally, I know nothing about what's out there.:rolleyes1

HAHA that is why I asked for the iphone also, John already had one! He is the go-to tech guy in my house. I don't know how to work most of the stuff he has hooked up.

Hi everyone. This is going to be a busy weekend so I wanted to check in quickly. Amanda's sleepover is tonight and I hope we actually get a little sleep.

The pavers are done around the pool and I have a ton of food for the girls, so I think I'm as ready as I'm going to be. We think there will be 14 of them, so wish me luck.

First off A says thanks for the prayers. His teacher has already graded the final and he got a B. :woohoo:

WFD is celebration grilled hamburgers

How is the new job going?

I am very busy, but it is going well. The only problem is my butt is so sore from sitting so many hours! I think I am going to have to join the Y or something.

Well y'all, I'm finally coming out of my cave and getting a smart phone!

I think I am going to end up needing one for this job. I'll probably get an iPhone so Beck and John can help me!

Happy Birthday to Kyle!!

Today is A's last full day of school!

Wow, congratulations on getting through the year! Seventh grade is tough.

We think there will be 14 of them, so wish me luck.

Good luck with that!! :eek::hug:

Yay, I'm glad he is happy!

Busy weekend...again. It never ends this time of year. I hope everyone has a good one!

Morning all! It's a sunny day here, but it's really chilly.

(To quote Kathy) Want to send some of that cool air down here?

Bethany – I’m sorry to hear you’re still not feeling well. Maybe you’d better go to a doctor.

I might next week if I'm still feeling crummy. Might be a good idea.

Weather is crazy in this part of the world as well. We've had the wettest summer and now look like we're heading into a very cold and wet winter....well, cold for us.

:headache: We can take some of that wetness if you'd like to share. We are having a drought. (Yes, and a flood. At the same time. :confused3)

Are your winters generally pretty mild?

:woohoo: On getting through the school year! I hope A has a safe and uneventful flight.

YUM....ACME! :goodvibes

We are having leftover spaghetti for dinner. It will be good, but it's not ACME! :rotfl:

Did you have the regular key pad and trying to text on the numbers? We used to joke about saying "hi" was "44 444". :rotfl: I love my qwerty texting on my iPhone!

I am not a Red Sox fan, but that sounds like a nice evening! I hope you enjoy it!

I took the easy way out and ordered the same phone Kyle has so he can help me with it. It's Verizon's LG Ally, I know nothing about what's out there.:rolleyes1

:rotfl: I will be confused when my contract is up also, so don't feel bad. I find the sheer amount of options available to be overwhelming. Then again, even the toothpaste aisle has too many choices these days. :sad2:

:scared1: Good luck! You think you will sleep. :lmao: :rotfl2: It sounds like the girls will have a fun time though. :thumbsup2

Oh...for lunch I had Popeyes. I got my usual, the three spicy tenders. Last time, they were insanely spicy. I don't know what they did to that batch. This time, they were just right, but I got some major langiappe! I had SEVEN tenders in the box! And I ate. them. ALL! :scared1: AND the mashed potatoes and biscuit! In my defense, I had not eaten my breakfast, and I didn't eat lunch until about 1.

Are you referring to the thread title?

We run the threads until they approach 250 pages, since they shut threads of that length down. The thread title is the month the thread was started in, not the current month.

I was referring to the title. I had no idea there was a limit. My bad, as they say.

I have an super busy Saturday planned. Stuff around the house - 3 or 4 hours... The going geocaching..... Then if I am up to it, we will go see the new X Men movie.

No worries!

Yeah, Webmaster Kathy shuts the threads down when they get too long. TigerKat is always the OP of these threads (because she does such a fantastic job of organizing the recipes and photos in the original posts) and she likes to stop them before they are locked so she can put the forwarding link to our next thread.

Right now, this thread is only on page 80, so it has a long way to go. It hasn't seemed to move as fast as some of the threads in the past. There was a while a few threads ago that I would come home from work and literally have five or seven pages to catch up on...just from one day!

I am exhausted! Just got on my computer so I could upload photos from a 50th birthday party I went to tonight. The birthday "girl" planned it herself and had a few surprises from some of the ladies she works with including some interesting, not naughty just interesting, entertainment. :rolleyes1 Will post photos on FB tomorrow, too tired to wait for them to load there too.

Busy day tomorrow then the peace and semi-quiet will return to work. :woohoo:
