The What's For Dinner Thread - March '11 (recipe index in OP)

Jen - Can’t wait to see the “biker chick” pics!!! It’s very hard to be “out of commission”, my guys would be lost and that’s why I’ve put off my wrist surgery for so long.

Lauren – What do you put in your fish and potato packets? I miss you and can’t wait to see you!!!!!

Vickie – I’m sorry y’all had an accident but VERY thankful it wasn’t worse.

Hey y'all..
Been reading for a few days but didnt have anything interesting to post..
Pizza for dinner because..

My son left to go to his dad's in Indiana on May 31, and he comes home today!!! I havent seen him in so long, and missed him so much! :yay:

He starts school tomorrow, and so lots to do tonight, so pizza it is!

Hope everyone's having a great day!

I hope you and your son have a great evening. No need to want for something interesting. If I waited for that I would never post:rolleyes1

Vic I am so glad you are ok.

Dinner was tuna salad with my garden tomatoes and celery. This is the first year I grew celery. I like my celery better than the stores. I was not a fan of celery but the stuff that came out of my garden is not bitter. I may have to change my mind about the stuff.

Princess I forgot to mention I am glad your husband is on the mend. Yuck to the food poisoning.

Hello everyone. It's Thursday night here. I got a quiche from Costco for dinner tonight; but the boys decided they wanted to go to the mall. So, DS probably picked up sushi for his dinner and DH probably had some noodles or something light. DH is feeling better, thank goodness, and nearly back to his normal self.

I stayed home and had 2 hours of peace and quiet. :cool1:
I ended up having a slice of toast and putting on 2 hard boiled eggs for dinner. Simple but satisfying.

Another day in the salt mines tomorrow before the weekend. Have a great day all.

:rotfl2:

I know you guy would get my " moment "

So Saturday I got a little closer to the big man....and Sunday I nearly met him !!
Driving home from the fitbaw we were involved in a minor road accident that was 2 good drivers away from being rather nasty and very probably fatal.

:scared1:

Next fitbaw road trip - money, ticket, scarf and clean knickers.

I'm fine, venting about family. Should have had the good sense to keep quiet!

No Bob doesn't smirk! At least not where I can see him!!;)

So glad the accident was minor! So scary, very glad you are still around! Glad you had your "Come to Jesus" moment before the accident!!! ;)

Three. Two, sadly but thankfully for my tank, have already died. They were kind of small. Being the good Aunt I am going to tell the youngest DN that hers is the one that survived. She actually did not win hers, the nice young man at the booth gave it to her when she got mad and started to cry. :sad2:

Again not sure about dinner tonight. Last night ended up being an oyster pie, carrots and asparagus.

You are a good aunt!!

Fried oysters, oyster pie.... ;)

Is is oyster season there already?

 Very happy for you!! That's a long time to be away from your boy!

Vickie- you are giving me gray hair! Well making the gray show faster! Thank the Big Man, (or as Buddy would say The Man Upstairs) that you are alright!

We had a great day! Lunch at Ruby Tuesday, Smurfs, and then ice cream! i am not at all hungry!

Yes I agree, It's Vickie's fault I have gray hair!! :rotfl::lmao:

Glad you & Kady had a good day!!! :goodvibes

I'm impressed that you've grown celery! So you must have a pretty good size garden! I wish I could do more than container gardening.

What time is dinner?

Dinner last night was tuna steaks, chinese stir fry veggies & brown rice. It was very good, but I had a hard time chewing it.

Don't know & don't care what for dinner tonight! I didn't get to see Jude last night when they got home from the trip. I will have him today!!!!! I can't wait to see that smile & hug him!

Gotta run I have an appt in Pittsbrgh this am...I am getting a painting from my parents cleaned and reframed.

Kat, Miss you too. The fish packet was a little bit of evoo, butter, juice of half a lemon, 1 slice on each filet, and salt, pepper, garlic powder, cayenne, paprika, lemon pepper and parsley. Cook for 5 - 10 min.

The potatoes...I cooked whole in microwave for 5 min, then sliced, added a little bit of evoo, butter, onions, peppers, montreal, paprika, salt...cook for about 10 - 15 on the grill.

Dinner tonight is pork kabobs and cleaning out the fridge.

I am down 8.8 lbs! I love Spark People and Spark Recipes!

Have a great day all! BBL!

Aimee, The thyme syrup is very good in iced tea! Tried it in coffee too, but couldn't really taste the thyme.

The heat has just about done in my basil. Think I will cut & make simple syrup. I waited to long to get a big batch for pesto.

Nancy, Have you or Welby found a way to get wine labels off the bottles that doesn't tear up the label? Maybe you haven't bothered with that, since y'all just want the labels off to bottle & relabel?

Nan, I know I've asked before, but could you give us a little more details on your wine making. I know you get your supplies from a local store. Is there an internet source?

Today we have a list to do a mile long...including a doctor's visit and some new school shoes for J.

I have NO idea what dinner will be.

Hope everyone has a great day!

ETA: And I had a whole list of replies typed out and they disappeared. Grrrrrr. I'm so sorry. Know I responded to all of you. :lmao:

Sheryl- I use two local suppliers to buy wine kits. The kit contains juice concentrate and any additives that are needed to make approx. 30 bottles of wine. WIne is much easier to brew than beer. I looked to see if there were any suppliers in your area, it is so nice to talk to the folks who have experience, but I was not able to find any. Just one beer supplier.

This website has a lot of info and you can buy your kits here as well although there are so many differenent internet suppliers. http://www.grapestompers.com

I have two carboys, two airlocks, two 8 gallon food safe covered buckets to start the fermenting process, disinfectant and cleaner to get the bottles clean, bottle and carboy brushes, a thing that measures the specific gravity of the wine, long handles spoon. Welby made a stirrer that is really just a plastic hanger attached to a drill that is perfect for stirring the wine as it ferments in the carboy.

Check out the forums on the website and there will be a lot if information there.

Saturday I bought two kits and one started set to make a batch of wine with and some cleaners and one more siphon. I spent about $370. It is nice to have an extra carboy to rack the wine into so that you only have the one step. Otherwise you rack the wine into the bucket and then back into the carboy. When you "rack" you are siphoning the wine mix out of the carboy (looks like an upside down poland spring water holder) into a container. This is a step that gets rid of sediment and "polishes" the wine.

You want to buy a good kit and one from a reputable supplier. I do not use Ebay but that is my own preference.

Good morning ladies,

I didn't get a chance to stop in yesterday as I was really busy at work. Sorry!! I will go read back and be back to catch up with everyone.

We have had horrible storms every night so far this week and tonight is going to be round 4. Even on Good Morning America we were tabbed for severe weather tonight. GREAT!! Plus you all know - it's Thursday - and that means Men's night at the Country Club. Doug will not be a happy camper if it is cancelled. And today is his Birthday so I guess he can be upset if he wants to - not that it will change anything tho. ;)

We are going to celebrate his Birthday on Sunday at the Family dinner. He hasn't said yet what the menu will be so I might be winging it. He is in a golf tournament all weekend, so he might just get what I fix.

We went and pick fresh sweet corn last night and the girls and I are canning it this weekend. This is my favorite summer thing to do - can't wait!!

WFDT ~ Lemon and Shrimp Spaghetti , kitchen sink salad and garlic bread.

Make it a great day my friends.

Vickie- you are giving me gray hair!

Yes I agree, It's Vickie's fault I have gray hair!! :rotfl::lmao:

I found my first one last week !!

Its ok tho, I spoke to my hairdresser and he agreed it must have been him last visit. ;)

Silly boy,I pay him to add blonde....he wont make that mistake again.

Loving your siggie!! Can't wait to see you & our other gal pals!!:dance3:

Only 71 sleeps !! :yay:

Glad you had your "Come to Jesus" moment before the accident!!! ;)

How was that for timing ??
Im a wee bit suspicious,I think the big man was showin his muscle.

Cornflakes and candy???????

Not at the same time....geez Im no a heathen. :cool2:

.

We have had awful weather too,not quite storms but terrible rain.
Stay safe lass.

Im sure you guys have seen the riots going on.
These have been reported as UK wide  but I can assure you it is only an England thing.

Nothing at all up here, I think the main reason is that us Scots wouldnae put up with it.
Hoodies and thugs would be too afeard of the rest of the country kickin there bahookies !!

:cool2:

Morning, everyone!

Aimee - The honey-lime enchiladas were amazing! We all liked them a lot! Everyone had at least one (except for Jacob who did eat a half of one), and some had 2! The filling reminded me of my lime chicken nacho meat, but the addition of the honey was really good! Those who are worried it would be too sweet, could add less honey, and more chili powder. We will be making these again!

Vickie - I'm so glad the accident wasn't more severe! What a scary thing. As to the riots, I'm just glad the Scots have more sense than to tolerate that! Stay safe!

Sounds like everyone has fun days planned for today. So far, I really don't have anything on my docket. I do need to go over the kids school supply lists, and see what we already have. The kids have been going through dressers and closets, so we will probably make some shopping lists. Our big shopping week is next week with Katie on Monday, Mary on Tuesday, Leslie on Wednesday and Jacob on Thursday. I really enjoy these trips, but I have a feeling that Jacob really is not looking forward to trying on clothes for his mom. At least I don't follow him into the dressing room anymore!

Not sure what we'll have for dinner. I have some leftover chicken that I didn't use last night (unseasoned), so I might make some kind of chicken salad with tomatoes and avocados. Sounds good to me.

Sheryl - I'm so happy you get to see your sweet baby boy today!

Lauren - You're doing great with the weight loss, I knew you could do it!!!!!

Ellen - Happy Birthday to Doug! Stay safe in those storms my friend.

Vickie - I'm happy to hear the violence is far away from you, and like Glynis, glad to see the Scots have more sense.

Glynis - I think I'm going to try your suggestion with the enchiladas.

I can't wait to see my F&W gals and their families in October!!!!:yay:

For all you DVC peeps did you notice there is a F&W discount for some of the events? I just saw that on the DVC website.

I added another chapter to the birds and the bees. The one about that the male kills all centipedes :lmao:. I told him that makes for a successful relationship when the male or other special person kills the bugs and catches the mice.:teacher: He was not excited about that addition. He says he will capture the ants but draws the line with multiple legs and furry faces.:rotfl2: I fear my son with be living with me forever :rolleyes1

Oh my goodness I spit my coffee all over my screen. That is so funny - but I so understand. :rotfl2:

I know you guy would get my " moment "

So Saturday I got a little closer to the big man....and Sunday I nearly met him !!

Oh Vic, I am so glad you are alright. That is just too scary!! Of course we "GET" your moment

My son left to go to his dad's in Indiana on May 31, and he comes home today!!! I havent seen him in so long, and missed him so much! :yay:

He starts school tomorrow, and so lots to do tonight, so pizza it is!

Hope everyone's having a great day!

Wow, that is a LONG time. Enjoy your evening catching up.

Glynis ~ Welcome home even if it was with a few sickies. We missed you.
I love your taking each child school shopping - I did the same thing. Have a good time.

Lauren ~ Wow - 8 pounds - good for you. I do have a question about your new pup - you call her a girl, but then you say she was nutered. Sooooo if I'm not mistaken little boys are nutered not girls. So is it a boy or girl? I am sure you are having a ball either way. Rescued pets, do know what you have done for them and they usually are friends for live.

Sheryl ~ I totally totally totally understand your rant. We are Moms and we have all been there. I am so glad A is feeling better. Enjoy that boy today, but remember you have to let go of him at some point today. ;) :lmao:

Nan ~ "floppy droppy mom" You had me chuckling on that one. I could just picture you. Again - I have been there. So glad when they come but darn glad when they go home. Sounds like Kady really earned her $10.
Sounds like you had a great day yesterday tho.

Princess ~ Glad to see DH is feeling better. They are just big babies, ya know. ;)

Jen ~ Glad to see you are feeling better. How is the tooth doing? I swear when it rains is pours.

Merle ~ good luck with the fish. :thumbsup2

Kat ~ good morning my friend. I so wish I was joining all of you. You have NO idea!!!

Everyone else that I have missed - please know I am thinking of you.

Hello all, remember me?!?! I can't believe how long it's been since I've been able to get on. I try to read, but never seem to have time to form a complete thought. I was doing some scheduling today and can't believe how close we are to the end of the summer, so many things I wanted to do that just aren't going to happen. I did finally manage to get my kiddo on her first whale watch this week. She had so much fun. She's seen whales from the beach before but we've never had time to go out on a whale watch boat. There were a lot of whales to see and they put on a good show, she is one happy kid.

Ellen- I saw you have another grandbaby on the way! So happy for you and your family.

Lauren- Congrats on the puppy, how is your other dog doing with the new pup?

I really need to get going with dinner, spicy honey glazed chicken from cooking light, random veggies and hopefully we have some starch in the house. Miss you guys!

Oh my! Glad you're okay.

You are a good aunt!!

Fried oysters, oyster pie.... ;)

Is is oyster season there already?

My DM got them on sale. Naughty! :laughing:I don't think they were local oysters, they were kind of small but were still good.

Dinner tonight will be sausage, biscuits, gravy and eggs.

I called DM to see if she had something she was going to make and after we were finished talking she forgot to turn off her cell. She was talking to a neighbor telling her how she cooks a couple nights a week and has all this week so far and when she works on Sunday's I have to take care of myself, after all I am 44 years old.

This from the same woman who pouted when I told her I wanted, and liked, to cook for myself and she didn't need to cook for me every night which was her plan when she retired. The only reason I haven't cooked this week is because I am so busy I don't have the energy.
