The What's for Dinner Thread- June 2012 (recipe index in OP)

Ellen, you live in a crazy place! I would have been so outta there years ago with the weather you have! I can't believe how resilient you are to stick around through that much!

Well we've been having fun. The trip was supposed to take about 4 hours yesterday, and we didn't get packed and on the road until 3PM. With stops for gas and potty breaks, it was about 8:30 when we got there. However about an hour from our destination, the Generator light came on. We kept going knowing that mainly it just meant we would have to pray that the car started for us the next day.

Luckily we found a guy only blocks from the hotel who specializes in Classic cars and he is rebuilding the Generator and replacing the voltage regulator so hopefully we can participate in tomorrow's Car Club events. There is a drive at 10AM. We are stranded at the hotel for today. It's not that bad, it's in a shopping center with lots of stuff.

For dinner last night we walked (Fran scooted) to a Steakhouse called Tahoe Joes. She had a steak sandwich and I had Shrimp Scampi with Fettucine. We both had a good stiff drink after that drive! I took my pasta and veggies home in a doggie bag and she took part of her sandwich. There is a Hometown Buffet in the parking lot as well, so we plan on hitting there for lunch. Fran is going to grab a piece of chicken or two and put them in a baggie for later. Our hotel has a complimentary Happy Hour from 5:30-7:30PM and after that we will come back to the room and heat up our leftovers in the Microwave and probably watch some movies by hooking the computer up to the TV.

Hopefully they can fix the car by tomorrow morning!

Kimmar, how did you get seeds for cheese filled jalapenos? ;)

Kimmar - You guessed right! Sea bream is a type of fish. I think we found another one of those universal googlation translations. Do you have sheephead fish there?

Ellen - Homemade fish and chips is definitely on the meals rotation here. We do cheat with the chips bit but we find it really easy to crumb the fish and put it in the oven.

And I fix meals you've never heard of???? :confused3

Stay safe with your weather.

Alison - Hope that the car is fixed and you're enjoying the car trip. :thumbsup2

Porgies, Sheephead, Sea Bream. Glad we're all on board with this translation now. :thumbsup2

...porgies are a really nice flavorful fish but they have a lot of bones in them...

I can't believe that it is Friday already.............where did the week go??!!

Alison ~ I know you think we are crazy out here, but it's where I was born and raised, it's just part of life. I sometimes think you all out in CA are nuts with the earthquakes and fires. It is just what you are used to I guess. I do know that even though we have rough weather sometimes I wouldn't live anywhere else.
Hope the car got fixed and you can do your drive today. I can't wait to hear all about it.

PIO ~ Yea, there are foods and ingredients that you cook that I have never heard of. That is the beauty of different cultures. I love it. Heck there are things on the East and West Coast I have never ever heard, tried or tasted. Just like in the same sense I know you all have never heard of a Runza, going cow tipping or snipes, eating Rocky Mountain Oysters (well maybe you have but never fresh) and Dorthy Linch Dressing.

Kimmar ~ I want some of those cheese jalapeno seeds......:rotfl2:

Another storm is brewing this morning. As I am typing it looks about 9pm outside. Dark clouds, wind and rain are on the way. As I went home last night the fields to the south of us are gone. The corn stalks are there but not a leave on them - stripped to the bare. The field of corn across the road is not touched as are the beans to the south of us. We must have been very lucky because to the North the fields are only dirt. The corn and soybeans looked wonderful this year. So sad!!! But friends to the North were down last night and Mark was telling us about all he lost and in the next breath said, "Well I guess I will take the family on a vacation - first one in 10 years". What an attitude!! Bless him.

Lilly is coming to spend the weekend as this is Marty's 10 year class reunion weekend. We are looking forward to playing with her. She just makes me smile.

WFDT ~ Spinach Tortellini, garlic bread sticks and cucumber & tomato salad.

Make it a great day and an awesome weekend!!!

....WFDT? Boneless roasted chicken thighs with lemon and oregano...probably with an arugula and spinach salad, with raspberry viniagrette dressing...

WFDT? Our packet says "Beef". I think our choices for dinner were Vegetarian or non-vegetarian. Lunch is pulled pork sandwiches.

The car got fixed. Hopefully we are done with troubles with it for the rest of the weekend. The drive starts in a couole hours. I'm a little disappointed a good portion of the drive is on the freeway. Last year it was all country roads. Maybe the park where lunch is served will make up for it.

Last night was Zucchini Noodles, homemade tomato sauce, crumbles, and red peppers.

Tonight we are going to a charity event to raise money for the wounded warrior project. It is a BBQ place, so I am not sure what I will be eating!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

I'm guessing, B-B-Q'd meat, but I could be wayyyyy off-base....popcorn::

[ :teeth: ]

WFDT?

Homemade burgers.

Alison - I put feta cheese, roasted red bell peppers, mayo/chilli and lettuce on them. It was inspired from the Uva bar version.

Monday again....................!!

Hi all ~ Your meals all sound wonderful.

Alison ~ So hope your cruise day was fun. Glad to hear the car got fixed and you were on your way.

Oh.my.goodness I now understand totally why you have your children when you are young. I am POOPED!! Saturday we ended up having all 3 grandbabies here. Ethan left early evening to go spend the night with a friend. Let me tell you two 2 year olds are busy - VERY BUSY. And what one doesn't think of the other one does. They were so fun and full of life, giggles and lots and lots of loving. :cloud9: But I would be lying if I wasn't glad to see their parents show up. I didn't even fix dinner last night. When they left Doug asked, "So what's for dinner"? REALLY buddy - you are taking me out - and he did. I slept really good last night. ;)

WFDT ~ grilled stuffed pork chops , jacket potatoes and a peach jello salad.

Make it a great day!
