The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

Hey all! Gonna try this from my phone. WFD tonight is still up in the air. We are heading to a local festival tonight. So we'll probably have fair food. If not that probably Friday night pizza. TGIF ladies!

Well Doug is on his way to take his Dad in for surgery. It is scheduled for 3:00 this afternoon. Please send a few prayers Doug's way. I know his Dad will be A-ok, but he really needs them to deal with his Mother. She is a REAL handful. Thanks!! Opps, he just called and his Dad is having a fit!!! They made him take his underware off. He is livid -:lmao: I do have to wonder why as it is his eye the are working on. :confused3

Glad everything went okay.

My BFF's is a handfull to deal with when her dad is sick, it's so bad that her poor father is extremely reluctant to go to the hospital.

Been having trouble with the computer at home, having a really hard time getting on the internet. :headache: I have to have my DM come down and look at it to see if she can figure out what is going on.

Dinner last night was a chicken salad sandwhich. I got home at 4:15, ate and fell asleep on the couch, didn't wake up until 11:00 last night. Read the rest of the book I was reading and fell back to sleep at 3:30. Not sure about tonight, I didn't take anything out. I may just throw a turkey burger on the grill and make oven fries.

Rosa goes great with a super chocolaty gooey dessert! Like a lava cake, good brownies, especially anything with dark chocolate. So store bought truffles are really good too.

Great ideas! I'll pick up something extra dark and gooey to have on hand.

It's awesome with chocolate and awesome just by itself. Dang, that stuff is good!

I'm anxious to try it! (and now wondering if I should have bought two bottles...)

I do not have many friends here but was blessed with 2 really good ones, my pool buddies - Andrew is also friends with their boys. They surprised me after my brother's funeral and took it upon themselves and got me a ticket to see David Cook in August!!!

Have a great day!

Sounds like you have great friends!

I have a busy busy weekend - tonight/tomorrow is a children's retreat, immediately followed by my mother's arrival, followed by a special emphasis Sunday I'm heading up... somewhere in there I need to paint that darn kitchen. Again. We did find a color, though! :yay:

Tonight will be fast food; I am bringing a 1st grader with me who needed a ride so I'll let him pick...

:eek: My grill just ran out of gas while cooking supper!!!!!:eek:

I hate that. I think there is something you can buy to stick to the gas tank that will tell you when it is getting near empty. My parents just keep a spare tank.

Lauren -- Have a great time tonight! You deserve a break.

Kathy -- You would have liked the flounder we had. It was super fresh. I coated it with panko then sauteed it until the panko was crunchy and the fish cooked. Then I wrapped it up in a tortilla with chipotle mayo, avocado and cabbage.

Ellen -- I am glad the surgery went well.

I think I am grilling some kielbasa for dinner tonight. I'm not sure what else I am making. It is going to depend on whether I get together with some of my neighbors for a drink before dinner.

Just flying by, I'll stop back later.

My Aunt passed on last night. :sad1: I am meeting my cousin at the funeral home to discuss the arrangements but the funeral is Tuesday, it was the earliest that everything could be coordinated. Thank you for all of the prayers, she is back home now and Heaven is a little louder now that one more sister has joined the group.

Ellen- Thank goodness Eugene is back out of surgery and is okay. Prayers for his health  BTW-----I am with him on the underwear thing. His eyes were nowhere nextdoor to his unders!

Good afternoon Ladies.

I am glad this morning is over. We just finished with a very good friends funeral. The church was packed to the gills. As I type the lunch is being served. We are full to the max. Karen was loved by this church and community. She will be missed.

Doug called a bit ago and asked if I wanted a rack of Lamb. I asked where he was, and his Mom and him were at the grocery store. :confused3 I guess his Dad won't be dismissed until after lunch so they went shopping. I love lamb but have never fixed one.

So I am going to you ladies the experts - How do I prepare Lamb Chops?

Amy ~ you wil love the Rosa. And yes, I buy it 2 bottles at a time. You will too. :lmao:

Tonight is my 3 mile walk, as tomorrow bright and early at 8 am is my 5K. I am getting a bit nervous. I so want to do good. And by that I really just don't want to be last.

I will not be last - I WILL NOT be last. I WILL NOT BE LAST!!!!!!!!

I have no idea what Dinner will be tonight as I have no idea when Doug will be home and Matthew is going into Omaha for the weekend. We just might go out. I just wish I had the options that you all do.

Jumping back in to say how sorry I am Nancy for your loss. My prayers are with you my friend.

Hey y'all,

Ann, I have 2 tanks. A while back I still somehow managed to run out of propane with dinner on the grill.:sad2:

Ellen, I hope Eugene recovers quickly. Again I am sorry for the loss of your friend.
Did Doug by the rack of lamb or cut lamb chops? I do lamb chops on the grill after marinating them in olive oil, lemon juice, black pepper & lots of rosemary. ( or a middle eastern seasoning blend that I have)
Good luck with your walk tomorrow!

Lauren, I'm glad Tom is coming home & that you get a night out with the girls!! Woohoo for you!!! I'm know you need it and I'm very glad you have those good girlfriends close by. Enjoy yourself this evening, that's an order! ;):goodvibes

Kat, Eat some oysters for me!

Stephanie, Good job posting from your phone! I'm still really slow at that!

Laura, I hope you get to have drinks with the neighbors this evening.

Glynis, I have to laugh at your comment about the teen girls and why they enjoy the books. At the DVD party we had, my 15 yo niece was there. We were all chatting about the books & our annoyance with Bella. My niece had this dumbfounded look on her face and said " I don't know what y'all are talking about, I LOVE Bella, she is so normal." :rolleyes1 Yes if you're 15 I guess that's normal! :confused3:laughing:

I'll let you know which book I start on next. A Peruvian restaurant!!! I don't think we have anything like that around here. Sounds really interesting, I hope you & Alan enjoy it!

Aimee, Glad you'll get to see your Mom! Hope you enjoy the Rosa!

We have our Church/School Fair this weekend. So dinner tonight will be fair food, actually I already know what I getting. Oysters Pirogue, it's fried oyster with a creamy crawfish(or shrimp) sauce on top! Can't wait! Tonight they have a really good & popular zydeco band playing. Tomorrow Alexis will be on stage singing with her class, so we'll be out there again.

Have a good Friday ladies!

Nancy--I am so sorry for the loss of your Aunt......I am, as always, impressed with your way with words.

:flower3:Hey friends....:grouphug:

Nancy, I am sorry to hear about your aunt.

So I am going to you ladies the experts - How do I prepare Lamb Chops?

Ellen, I am glad Eugene's surgery went well. Did they get a rack of lamb, or chops? If chops, I'd just grill them as Sheryl said. If it is the rack, let me know. I have an awesome foolproof recipe. It's not grilled though, it's pan seared then roasted. Rack of lamb on the grill is tough because the fat drippings tend to catch on fire.

:flower3:Hey friends....:grouphug:

Hi!! :)

Dinner tonight is going to be some kind of fish on the grill. This will be the first grilling of the season for me!

For those of you on facebook, I put up a picture of the female hawk last night. I was hoping to get a picture of both of them today, but the male has not been around.

Maria, I've been thinking about you & meant to ask earlier....How are you feeling today?

Wendie ~ nice to see you around. I'm Ellen and I am new to you, I have been lurking for a bit, but feel right at home now.

Thanks for the help ladies with the Lamb. I haven't seen it, as Doug hasn't gotten home yet, but he said I would have to cut them apart. So I am assuming they are Chops. I will be back as soon as I know what I have. :rotfl:

Nancy Sorry to hear about your Aunt

Ellen praying for your FIL quick recovery:hug:

Maria How are you feeling?

Bethany Congrats on the new job

Marissa Congats to you too on your new home. Poor Nancy what is she going to do without you?

Sheryl I am hoping you are hanging in there.

I am trying to keep up but I am not doing a great job it was a very loooong week. It is a beautiful day here it is in the low 80's. Pretty unusual for this time of year but I like it.:yay:
