The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

Hi All....Today is a little rough but I'm dealing.
I'm not sleeping well but I think it has to do with the position I have to stay in.....I'm also on steroids again so that makes me fell really odd & 2 weeks of antibiotics.

Greg made me a cornbread cake last night he found on-line. It was a cake but not to sweet......he made it in a cast iron casserole. It had cans of mixed fruit on the bottom so when it was flipped out it was browned & tasty.
I need to eat soft foods & not very hot foods for a few days.

Prayers for all that are in need:hug:

Great to have you back, don't push it and get your rest. We're not going anywhere.

That is sad Aimee.

I am trying to stay upbeat for my momma; she also feels left out of the whole thing. I'm sure it'll be beautiful :thumbsup2

Did I tell you guys that my refrigerator died? I am so mad. It just keeps getting warmer and warmer. I have all my perishable food in my supplimentary beverage refrigerator. The beverage fridge is a small dorm style fridge, so this will not be a workable solution for long.

Is it a new enough model to have a warranty still? Fridges are pricey pricey... I'm sorry

Steroids won't help with the sleeping, either. Can they give some sleeping meds? When I had a pilonial cystectomy, I couldn't move much and the lack of sleep was the hardest part of recovery. I'm so sorry

It's so HOT here! I had to run work errands and even with wearing a little sundress, I was sweating. It was 94 degrees!!!!!!! NOLA people, what is the temp there?

Did I tell y'all that my mother flies in on Saturday? :yay::yay::yay::yay: She tried to figure out a way to get home with a cooler full of "mickey on a stick" (aka mickey bars) but couldn't :sad2:

My sister would do that in a heartbeat, she loves Mickey Bars! I will have to tell her about that ice.

BREAD comes in purple and white stripes? Is that....safe? :scared:

The beans woman! :rotfl:Although you could make bread purple by adding food coloring. ;)

Hey NE ladies...did you see they are predicting the weather for Saturday and Sunday to be 79-85...:flower3: Holy Moly!!!

I heard about that. It was warm earlier today, then it rained and now it is really cool out.

I agree. I think he has a real future in the music industry, no matter what the result from the show. He has a talent for taking old songs and making them new.

I don't watch the show but it seems the ones that do the best are not always the winners. :thumbsup2

She is actually at AK; I have always wanted to stay at AKL! It's gorgeous!

I have stayed there once and will be again this June. Visited there many times over the years to eat at Boma too, can't wait to stay there this summer. I would have to say it is my fav so far.

Dinner tonight is crockpot chicken! :scared: I didn't have time to pour a bottle of wine over it before I left this morning.

Off to the Disney Store to see about getting a prize for the bottles!

Lauren- I saw that Andrew has Strep. Hope he gets well soon!

Aimee- I am so sorry that you feel disconnected from the wedding. :grouphug:
Unfortunately he suffers with allergies and had a sneezing attack last night. It was painful for me to watch.:sad1:

Poor guy!

Hi All....Today is a little rough but I'm dealing.

Prayers for all that are in need:hug:

You get your rest and let Greg cook for you. Feel better soon!

Tonight I will walk my 3 miles. The girls and I are doing a 5K on Saturday so I need to be ready. My goal is to not be last. We did one last July 4th and I was dead last. I know someone has to be last but this time is will NOT be me.
I am impressed!

Hi All....Today is a little rough but I'm dealing.

Hey,get well sweetie...

I have to agree...I loved Kris last night!!! I would love the finale to be him and Adam.

DS slept all night 8:15pm- 6:45am. WooHoo :cool1:, first time in a very long time. I am hoping no nap is the answer.

:yay: hope this means you've cracked it !!

Quick check in...I have Andrew home sick again with a bad sore throat.

Poor A....

I've had a bad day too.... very sore !! :sad1:

Dont think I can wait 12 weeks for surgery...:sad1:

Maria -- Nice to hear from you! If the sleeplessness continues, I would talk to your doctor. You need your rest to recover.

Aimee -- I'm sorry your mom is feeling left out as well. In retrospect, my mom was not as involved in planning my wedding as you would expect. She helped plan almost every detail of Becky's wedding, but I did most of my wedding myself. I don't know how she felt about that (she definitely was hurt when I said I wouldn't wear her wedding dress) but as you know I have a very close relationship with my family, so somewhere along the line, all was forgiven.

Lauren -- I hope Andrew feels better soon and the rest of you stay well.

Marilyn -- So what was the prize?

ETA: Scotlass, maybe I missed it, but I didn't know you were scheduled for surgery as well. I hope you feel better.

Dinner was bratwurst, leftover turnips from last night, broccoli and bread. Even Caili liked the bratwurst. I got it from a great meat shop near the gymnastics school. I am going back tomorrow for fresh kielbasa. :thumbsup2 Not that we will eat it tomorrow after bratwurst tonight.

I'm sorry you're feeling so bad.

Lauren - Sorry that I missed that A has strep, hugs for you both and tell him I'm thinking of him.

Hey all! Tried to post earlier on my phone but it went crazy on me. Kept deleting everything I would type. It was probably operator error; still not quite sure how to handle all that technology.

Dinner tonight was a store bought chinese thing and egg rolls. Egg rolls good, chinese dinner BAD! Will teach me not to buy those things.

Aimee--it was hot today here too! At least the sun is finally out.

Laura--Yum Brats! I've got some Johnsonville ones in the freezer that I need to get on the grill soon.

Kathy--yes, I think Kris did great last night. I had trouble voting, the number wouldn't connect for the longest time. Hoping that means a lot of people were voting. There was a big watch party here last night, but since I was at work, a no go for me. They are drumming up lots of support for his homecoming concert if he makes it to the final 3. Pretty cool.

Okay, need to go clean up after dinner. Have a great night all

I sure hope dialidol is wrong, they've got Lil in 1st place and Kris & Alison at the bottom.

Hey, everyone! I've been having major computer problems, but they are temporarily fixed. DH has to take the whole machine into the "doctor" tomorrow for a complete overhaul, so I won't be on tomorrow.

I had to post dinner last night. It was incredibly yummy!

I browned up 4 chicken breast halves in olive oil for 7 minutes on each side. Then I removed the chicken. In the same skillet, I melted 4 ounces of cream cheese, 1/2 cup of pesto, 1/2 cup of water and some grape tomatoes. I let that simmer until the cream cheese was melted, then I added the chicken back in. I covered it and let it simmer until the tomatoes had popped, and everything was all heated through. Then I topped the chicken with some Parmesan, and Asiago cheeses. So yummy! The kids wouldn't touch the sauce, so Alan and I got all of that yumminess to ourselves!

Now, down to real business.

Maria - I'm so glad that you came through surgery ok. Take it easy on the recovery, ok?

Aimee - Have some fun with your mom! Good luck getting through all the wedding stuff.

Sheryl - Good luck with the decision making. You are in my prayers. Congrats to Angelina on the jobs!

Marisa - HOORAY FOR KADY! I'm just thrilled that her allergies are gone!

Nancy - Prayers for you, your family, and especially your aunt! I'm glad that you and Gail are advocating for her!

Ellen - Prayers for Doug's dad. I hope that the recovery is not as bad as it sounds like it could be.

Scotlass - Good luck with your surgery. Do we know what this is for? Or are you keeping it quiet?

Kathy - Thanks for keeping us all in the know! I hereby nominate you as "Head Information Officer" of the WFD. Give Kyle my best! Alan just recovered from broken ribs, and it's no fun!

Lauren - Don't worry about catching up! Just keep swimming!

Dinner tonight will be beef tips over noodles. Some kind of green veggie, and grapes.

Bethany, Good luck with the field trip. We are going to have to teach you how to cook beans of all colors when you get down here! I have to look for that striped bread though! Oh I know king cake purple green & gold striped bread! ;)

The trip went okay! The Bronx Zoo has these really big habitats for the animals, so it's a LOT of walking and NOT a lot of animal-seeing. My kids still enjoyed themselves and all of the adults except one. (Ugh!) We did see the lion cub and he was playing with his mom and then...the dad lion ROARED!!! It was really funny because the dad was asleep and my class was loud and we were telling them to be quiet or the lion would wake up and get mad....then he woke up and started roaring and my class got all quiet! :lmao: They said "oohhhh he's MAD we woke him up!" :rotfl::rotfl2::lmao:

And we saw giraffes, peacocks, and the butterfly garden. We also rode on the "bug carousel"...a carousel where there are no horses...just giant bugs. One of the bench seats looks like a giant ball of dung being pushed by a dung beetle. :lmao: I told another teacher..."look! A dung beetle!" She says "I don't know what that is." And I smugly said "I DO...because I went to the Insecterium." :snooty: :lmao:

*sigh* Turns out it's not striped bread, it's striped BEANS. Although I've never seen those either. :confused3 And I DO need help cooking...and not just beans! :rolleyes1

WHYdid you FEEL THE NEED to mention KING CAKE!!! :headache:

Bethany, you are my happy place each day. I have to tell you though, being from the Mid-West you all cook very different things. Some I have never heard of either. But I love ya, because just about the time I am wondering what something is - you ask. God Love ya!!

Awwww, thanks. :goodvibes I've been saying for awhile that I'm on two clique threads that I TOTALLY have no business being a part of. I can't cook and NYC is SOOO not "metro New Orleans". But I'm going to be in metro NOLA (soon!) and so maybe I can learn to cook too? Maybe that's too ambitious...

Bethany -- I hope you are feeling better. Can you take Claritin? That helps Liam and Caili, but you need to take it every day during allergy season for it to work.

I've been coughing all day. At the zoo I was dizzy from coughing so much. :sad2: I have been taking Clarinex-D every day for the last year. I got new asthma medicine today so hopefully this will help some. It's one of those prevention inhaler things because I told her I've been using the albuterol every day lately.

Spring?! It's flippin' 90 degrees here!!!

That's toasty. We are 50° ... Feels Like 46°F. So yeah, about HALF of you!

Unfortunately he suffers with allergies and had a sneezing attack last night. It was painful for me to watch.:sad1:

Poor guy...I hope he doesn't get these coughing fits I'm having! I think I'm going to have to call in sick tomorrow. I can barely teach because when I talk, I start coughing.

The beans woman! :rotfl:Although you could make bread purple by adding food coloring. ;)

*sigh* Remember, this is like WFD 301. I really should be in WFD 091 or something remedial. You have to be very clear and speak s l o w l y and clearly for me. :lmao:

Aimee -- I'm sorry your mom is feeling left out as well. In retrospect, my mom was not as involved in planning my wedding as you would expect. I don't know how she felt about that (she definitely was hurt when I said I wouldn't wear her wedding dress) but as you know I have a very close relationship with my family, so somewhere along the line, all was forgiven.

I understand a wedding is about a couple... and really shouldn't be about a family.... but we always assumed my sister would elope, she HATES weddings and never wanted one for herself. But he wanted a wedding, so they decided to plan one in a three months time but opted against involving her family and just include his. Which is odd. Since he is from the area they live now, I think it's pretty obvious we will rarely see them and their family life will revolve around his. It's different than our marriage, because we don't live near either set of parents so it makes things more "fair." But when we got married, we lived in the same city with both sets of parents so everyone was involved and included. Just different circumstances.

I got off work an hour early so I was able to get Chick Fil A for dinner for both us. YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.

Marilyn -- So what was the prize?

Appropriately enough, a re-usable water bottle, Dis green to be exact. :thumbsup2 I gave them three water bottles. I also got a new Mickey shirt, an Eve notebook and a really nice, huge shopping bag. I got a gift card for the mall today for Administrative Professionals Day from the company I work for.
