The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

I just finished making a broccoli/cheddar soup, so that is what I will have after we get back from the art show. I think I might just get the kids some chicken nuggets and fries from the pizza place down the street.

Prayers for Sheryl please -

She's not coping and is freaked out about possibly having to have the surgery sooner rather than later. She is waiting to hear from her doctor as to whether she can still "schedule" it or if it has to be done soon. She sends her love to you all.

Continuing to pray for you Sheryl we haven't stopped.:hug::hug: Kathy Please keep us updated on Sheryl

Praying for Sheryl :grouphug:. Kathy, thank you for the update, please let her know I am here if she needs to talk.

Continued prayers for Sheryl...we are here for you! xo

Scotlass, I am sorry for your friends. I have had a couple miscarriages, so I know how it makes you feel...it's never easy. I hope they are blessed with another pregnancy very soon.

I am in the middle of cooking but wanted to share what I just saw when driving Andrew's friend home. I immediately thought it may be something Aimee would be interested in doing...;)

There is a church down the road from us. I believe it's Reformed. There was a really big box (maybe a fridge) with a tarp and some other stuff with a big sign outside of it. I couldn't read the sign and of course the nosey body that I am, had to go around the block. The sign read "The youth pastor is living here until the youth group raises $6000 to feed the hungry." :scared1: I didn't see a bed but a chair, desk, laptop and the pastor was probably taking a potty break since he was walking out of the church. I hope he has some heat...its a bit cold and rainy here today.

I decided to make sloppy joes, salad and home fries tonight...Andrew has practice and then going to a sleep over later so I needed something quick.

Wow, what a day! I had Monday off and I took yesterday off, so today was my Monday. YIKES - in a church the week AFTER Easter. Remind me to NEVER do that again. What a day!!!! I am glad I am home.

Wednesday is our date night. We started it when Matthew was in Middle school Youth group. He would go to church for dinner and it was a nice hour just Doug and I for dinner. Now that Matthew is not home we still do it. Old habits are hard to break. So there was no cooking for me tonight. :rotfl:

Scotlass, I am so sorry to hear about your friend. Prayers are being said.

Liam & Cali, I would love to see your art work. I bet it is outstanding.

Sheryl, my prayers are with you. Please don't be afraid. You will be just fine. I know you are scared, but half of it is the fear of the unknown.

Make it a great rest of the day.

Dinner was grilled chicken, baked potatoes, salad and left over carrots. Remind me to toss the carrots if we don't eat them the first time.....they do not get any better :scared:

Sheryl, prayers to you. You have been on my mind.

Kathy, thank you for the update.

Dinner was at my parents. Steak sandwiches and KFC cole slaw (made from a copycat recipe which was very good.)

Tomorrow I have a routine check-up with my O/B. My Dad is going to the doctor tomorrow also. His whole left side is killing him. He doesn't know if it is his hip or back. He could hardly move tonight and was using a cane. My Dad is a very stubborn 80 year old and has never used a cane in his life. Please send some prayers his way that this is just a temporary thing. Thanks.

Ann

Thoughts, hugs and prayers for Sheryl!

 I wish you would let my mom know...she saves everything. Actually, it would help more if you had a time machine and could tell her when I was a kid. Now, I can just throw the bad leftovers out and she doesn't have to know. ;)

Ellen -- Thanks for wanting to see the art, but as it turned out, we didn't even see it. It was a classic Bad Mom moment, I admit, but after skating, none of us felt like going back out again. The artwork will come home, so we'll see it then. We just enjoyed a leisurely dinner, and then a not-so-leisurely discussion about homework.

Apparently, Liam and (according to him) several of his classmates have decided homework is optional. Um...not so much. He was pretty quick to admit he just hasn't been doing it (for how long, I have no idea...he always does his math homework, but tonight he said he didn't have any homework, so I was :confused3) so Beck pointed out that he was probably feeling guilty. He has promised to do it from now on, as long as I don't schedule a conference with his teacher about it. Part of me wonders if I should be concerned about that, but the other part thinks (hopes!) that the teacher would have contacted me if there was some major issue.

My broccoli soup was really good, but now I am hungry again.

 That's pretty dedicated =) Hope they raise it quick!

I hope the doctor has good news for him.

Thank you all for prayers for Dad. Off to get ready.

Not sure what will be for dinner.

Ann -

Sheryl update - Her doctor will not schedule the surgery because of the facial numbness. She needs to go to her primary dr. so that they can rule out the possibility that she's had a stroke or mini-strokes. She'll be doing that today.

Sheryl, Continued prayers for you. Please let us or Kat know how you make out. Many of these  for you!

Kat, Thanks for the update!

Dinner will be a new beef brisket crock pot recipe. It is basically a rub. Mashed potatoes and corn.

Have a great day all!

Kat- thanks for letting us know. She certainly does not need anymore bad news.:sad1::sad1: She is in my prayers, let us know if we can help in any other way. It is awful being so far away!

We have skipped school shows before too. Sometimes it is better to just relax at home.

If Liam was behind or the teacher was worried you would have heard about it.

I am not sure about dinner, Kady has her art show this evening, Donny is coming to adjust the sprinklers at the greenhouse and I have not thawed anything out. We'll see.

I made chicken soup yesterday becasue Kady likes it and Welby was sick so I may just have that and make tuna for the guys.

Prayers for your Dad

I am not sure

Sheryl --

Thanks, Kathy for keeping us updated.

Ann -- Good luck at your appointment today and I hope your dad is doing better.

Nancy, you're going to be mad about this, but we had more school drama this morning, this time with Caili. Yesterday, her teacher saw that Caili just had banana bread for lunch and told her she should be bringing something else, like yogurt. Well, first of all, I don't usually send Caili in just with banana bread, but yesterday was an early release day and they cut down on lunch time, so I knew Caili would only have time to eat one thing. I figured she could have a piece of fruit when she got home. Second, Caili doesn't like bringing yogurt to school because even with an ice pack, it gets too warm and tastes gross. Third, what's really wrong with banana bread? They serve waffles and pancakes in the cafeteria sometimes. Anyway, I didn't know about the teacher's comments until this morning when I asked Caili what she wanted me to pack for lunch and she broke down sobbing. :headache: Needless to say, I wrote the teacher a note asking her to direct any nutrition concerns to me.

I am going to my fish market today, so dinner will depend on what looks good. Last week, they had beautiful sea scallops, so I am thinking I will get those if they have them again. If they do, my menu is seared sea scallops over arugula with a beurre blanc sauce and risotto cakes.
