The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

I wanted to let y'all know that our prayers were answered, Kyle actually got to close yesterday's game and did VERY well. It's been a long, long time since I've seen him walk off the mound with a huge smile. His confidence is creeping back up.:goodvibes

Ya Dancer !!!!

Nice one Kyle...............:cheer2:

We are having leftover Italian rice pot dinner thingy tonight.

Please pray for me. I'm not having a good start to the week.

Dinner tonight will be salmon.

Hey y'all!

I'll post some food pics now & then go read back. It's running so slow, multiquoting will probably be an impossibility. I apologize to friends here from the Nola thread that y'all have to look at this twice.

Our Twilight Party was a blast! DD did a great job with the theming. Everything was black, white & red like the book covers. Here's some food pics, I'll put people pics on FB later.

Aren't the glasses cool? DD dipped them in a warm candy (like candy apple stuff). I made the Sangria, I was so excited to find blood oranges at Rouses. I also fixed bloody Mary's.

The reddest salad fixings I could find.

DD's Cookies with raspberry filling.

Didn't really fit the theme except for the color & who doesn't want chocolate covered strawberries!
IMG_1442a.jpg

DD also fixed Wolf Kibble which was chex mix made with peanut butter & chocolate.

It was a really fun Girl's evening! I enjoyed the movie but I think only fans of the books would like it.

Wendie, I'm praying for your Dad & you.:flower3:

Nancy, Prayers for Timmy staying safe! :flower3:

Maria, I hope your procedure goes well & doesn't hurt! You really need the tubes put in, you have been sick for much too long! Prayers:flower3: & hugs:hug:

Lindsay, Prayers:flower3: & hugs:hug: for you too. I hope things get better.

Laura, I think you must be trying to save the economy all on your own! Just the visit to the AG store should pull us out of this!

I will be helping the economy this week too. Doofus that I am, I think I rolled over my own phone in the Sam's parking lot on Friday. Retracing my tracks, I think I had it in my lap when I got out of the car. The last phone call on the records was mine on the way to Sam's. I went back there, scoured the parking lot & checked with them with no luck. The good thing is that Bob thinks we need at least one I-phone!! You know for important stuff during evacuations etc.:rolleyes1 I did tell him at least one time that I didn't need it & it was such a big monthly expense, but if he thinks we need it who I am to argue! ;)

Dinner tonight will be leftover NY Strip that I did my own version of Guacho Barbecue. Marinated in lots of latin american herbs, evoo, lime juice & a little barbecue sauce. DH was hoping for barbecue country pork ribs, but I didnt have any, he was happy with the steaks.

Becky, Yum! You have to share your bread recipes!!!

Happy Monday, everyone!

Kathy - I'm so thrilled for Kyle! Hopefully, now the coaches will see what he's capable of, and really use him!

Lindsay - I'm so sorry your day/week is starting off all wonky. Is there anything I can do?

Gretchen - Welcome back! Can't wait to hear how your whirlwind weekend went!

Maria - I'm praying that this procedure gives you some relief!

Bethany - We generally shred our utility bills after they get paid. We do keep our tax stuff, and have since we got married.

Nancy - How are you doing today? Still blue? What can we do?

Sheryl - Your party food looked so yummy! I read the book, but haven't seen the movie, yet. DH won't watch it with me, so I'll have to block out some "me" time to watch it.

Well, the twins party went well. I'll upload the pictures today so you can see what we did. Everyone enjoyed it, and the kids had a ball. After the party, we went to Golden Corral as a family to celebrate Alan's birthday as well as the twins. It was a fun evening.

Yesterday, we spent most of the day with Alan's family. The cousins had a ball playing together. We had oven fried chicken, rice and mixed veggies with a carrot cake for dessert. It was all yummy!

Dinner tonight will be artichoke chicken with brown rice and maybe steamed broccoli.

and they were yummy!!!Even my husband who doesn't like spinach liked it(I used more mushroom than spinach for him)They took me alittle longer to cook and I had to take my dd to snuggle up story night so I ate when I got home and they were still delish.I made orzo pasta with mushrooms, chicken broth, garlic and wine.It went nicely.Didn't cook much over the weekend-I have been having washing machine drama at my house for the last month(My old one was only 5 years old and almost went on fire, bought a new one that wouldn't spin out all the way, repair guy said it was our problem because we have it in the basement going up into a cesspool.Supposedly the new energy efficient ones don't have as strong of a pump to pump up like the old ones so we had a backflow valve thing put in to prevent it from coming back and had to have the end of the pipe changed when we first got it because we had a Maytag and then got a GE and the Ge hose was smaller. Then it started leaking water. We got the store to agree to take back the old washer if we brought it back so Sat we lugged the thing back to the store and got a Maytag HE top loader without the agitator that was supposed to have a strong pump.It was delivered Sunday, the delivery guy goes to hook up the waste and the pipe is too big now:mad:So he attached the water hoses to make sure it doesn't leak and fills it up half way and stops it.My Fil was coming over to add a piece to make the new hose fit.So me and dh are standing there and we hear a weird noice and then water starts shooting out the hose,I grab it and my dh says"What happened"and I turn and point the hose right at him(to show him I guess:confused3)and try to figure out how to turn it off cause it is all digital.I get the thing off and we are soaked and half the basement too!We were laughing so hard I wish someone was recording us cause I think we would have won money:lmao:So today I have been catching up on laundry and putting back together everything I pulled out to dry.I think I am just gonna make chicken soft taco's and yellow rice for dinner.

Well I'm really glad your stuffed chicken turned out better than the luck you are having with the washing machines!!! Glad you were able to laugh about it, I think I would have been crying not laughing.

Glynis Glad the party went well! Sounds like you had a very nice weekend!

I'm Back!

So here's the story. First of all he was shocked I was never put on steroids....he said the infections plus the virus were so bad that my body never had a chance to get rid of the swelling in my tubes so I started steroids. He also put me on Augmentin for 10 days & nose spray just to clear any bacteria that may be lurking, Motrin & Mucinex.
Being there was no fluid in my ears I didn't need the tubes but he said that is almost the bad news because if it was just fluid I would of had immediate relief & no need for steroids. I feel relieved that I'm on the right course & hope this is the end of it. He said rest, fluids & in a few days I should start to feel much better.
Thank you for all your thoughts & prayers.

Dinner tonight will be pork chops....no idea about the sides yet. Whatever DM or DH would like to make;)

YEAH for Kyle!!!!!!!! He needs a pick me up!
**Gretchen, welcome home! When do we get pics?
**Sheryl that party looked like fun....I still have to come up to speed on this Twilight craze.
**Lyndsay hope your ok:hug:
**Glynis so glad the birthday party was a success:cutie:

Maria- how are you feeling? Sis the procedure go well?

Glynis- sounds like you all had a great weekend! I have never been to Golden Corral but lately we have had commercials and I am adding this on to my "When I meet my goal treats" Marisa said that if I eat everything I want to when I reach my goal I'll need to start all over again :rotfl2:

Kathy- I am so glad that Kyle had good innings! He can pitch, he just needed to find his stride in this team :thumbsup2

Sheryl- your party looks awesome! I agree taht we need Becky's recipes, her breads are lovely.

I have no idea what an Iphone is....but if Bob is agreeing then :cool1:

Dinner is American Chop Suey. I can make that ahead and we can all eat whenever we are home.

The tree guys are coming tomorrow to take down several oaks and a big maple. They are also going to trim the rest which will make a big difference in our yard. I will have to figure out meals depending on what goes on here. Buddy will stay home to make sure it all goes well.

No fluid? Didn't the other dr say you had fluid? Anyway I'm praying that these meds work & work really fast!! :flower3:

On Twilight, it's not usually into teen books, I didn't get into the Harry Potter stuff. But I am a sucker for vampire novels. I've got to go look up that book you mentioned, I think after I finish this series that one sounds very good.

Can you send the trees you're removing to my place? :flower3:

Can I just tell y'all that I am :cheer2::cheer2: about the new no politics policy? Made my weekend.

I was going to make fajitas tonight but we are expecting super spring storms tonight and I forgot to thaw chicken so we'll have swedish meatballs instead with mashed potatos.

:cheer2:Great news!!!! :cheer2:

Thanks y'all.:grouphug: I'm sure all you Moms know how hard it is to watch your child(no matter how old they are)lose their spirit and confidence. I am so thankful that my old boy is coming back even thought it may be slow, I'm a happy Mom.:goodvibes

Yes, I had major fluid but as per this doctor the fluid is gone so it's the swelling that's causing the pain, dizziness & hearing loss. :confused3
I'm just glad I'm going to feel better soon...Amen!

Kathy, I missed something big about Kyle! I'm sorry I will go hunt for the post!

Aimee, I also missed the new "no politics" policy. :confused3 Is that a new policy here on the DIS?

Holy Cow!!!! If the DIS goes any slower for me it will be going backwards!!!

SO being that I have done a little shopping being home for 2 weeks I found a really good deal I wanted to share. I love Philosophy products & this is a good deal.
http://www.philosophy.com/web/store...s-_-mar09-_-philosophy-birthday-3for33-_-L14#

I always keep a few bottles of these on hand for gifts......Valentine's Day I gave the red velvet cake with red velvet cupcakes to the kids that walk Lily for us when we're away.
With birthdays, Mother's Day, etc. etc. etc thought I would pass this on...

I also pack one for Disney as shower & shampoo to make the packing lighter.

Back to shopping....;)

Kathy, I'm sorry I totally missed this post! Yeah!!!! :cheer2::banana: I'm so happy that Kyle was able to play & that he did well!! I know it makes Mom feel so much better that Kyle is happier! :goodvibes:goodvibes

Aimee, Thanks for the link! I think it's a good idea.

Sheryl, your party photos are great! The red candy on the wine glasses is brilliant.

Kathy, hooray for Kyle! I am glad he got to pitch, and that he did well.

I think I might be too hungry to just have salad for supper. Maybe panini would be better.

I am very glad about the new DIS policy regarding politics--it was getting ridiculous.
