The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

Lauren i had to jump in quick. I had the same concern with Alex. The doctor and nurses all told me as long as he is gaining weight he is getting enough from you. I never had anything to pump Alex took all I was making and then some. He had doubled his birth weight a 3 months I guess it is always a worry they are starving.

Wow...you were all chatty yesterday. The boards crashed in the middle of catching up, so I apologize if I forget anything.

Stephanie -- Kris did great last night. If you know anyone who is in contact with him, tell Kris to sing into the camera. If he does that, he is going to get so many more votes because he is just so cute!

I was surprised to find that my kids LOVE hummus!

I am impressed...especially if they found something they all like!

I can't believe you are getting snow. I really hope we don't get any more here. It would just be too depressing.

Good for Timothy with the cereal! He should sleep more for you with a full belly.

Ann -- I am glad you don't have an ear infection and that all is well.

Laura, Was it your tip of a one bite per age of the child?

That is Glynis's trick. That would never work in my house. Caili would rather starve than eat something she doesn't like.

Have fun playing with the iPhone!

Nancy -- Any news yet?

Lauren -- Listen to Glynis. You are doing a great job!

ETA: Good luck with the job, Robin!

I think I am making pizza for dinner tonight.

Lauren- I agree with Glynis and Janice. AS long as your baby grows and is healthy you are doing fine. Marisa could not nurse and neither could Welby. Kady and Nola did not thrive so formula is was. I think that it is sad that formula has gotten such a bad rap and that Mom's feel as though they are not taking proper care of their babies when in fact supplementing their diet may in fact be the best thing possible.

Glynis- What a big boy already!

No news yet. My nephew's wife is on FB and she just said any time now.

Hi! I am out of lurkdom! As far as breastfeeding, if he is gaining weight at a normal rate, then I wouldnt worry about it. If you need to supplement with formula, dont worry about that either. Kady wasnt getting enough, and I had to supplement, and i was freaking out about it. She couldnt sustain her own body weight and was diagnosed failure to thrive. She would lose at every check up. So if he is gaining, I wouldnt worry. If you are comcerned, though, talk to the pediatrician. Its better to be safe than sorry!

ALSO!! NO BABY YET!!!

Good morning everyone! Prayers for all who need them. Just a quick run through this morning work is nuts today.

Dinner tonight is pork chops with rice and gravy and field peas.

Baby Vincent Joseph has arrived! :cloud9: He is 7 pounds.

Robin. I'm sorry that I missed your post about the new job possibility. Best wishes that you get the position!

Congrats to new mommy and daddy, grandparents, cousins, uncles, aunts, etc. There's nothing better than a new baby to lift the spirits and give everyone a new lease on life! Welcome to the world, little Vincent Joseph!!!!

Congratulations, Nancy!

Not sure on dinner yet. I am on my own again tonight. John has to take some clients to the NCAA thing at the Garden tonight. He is hoping they'll all want to go home after the first game, but I told him not to count on it!

I've been kind of craving salmon so I might stop for a piece at the store.

Nancy, congrats on baby Vincent. :cloud9:

I give all of you nursing moms credit. I am one of those people who knew from the very beginning of pregnancy it was not for me. Lauren, I agree with everyone else. If he is thriving you are doing okay, keep up the good work.

WFD- DS and I are going to my parents. Last night my Dm made yankee pot roast with gravy, mashed , peas, carrots, mashed acorn squash, and a shredded iceburg salad with homemade lemon vinagette. Tasted great while I was eating, but my tummy was upset the rest of the night. Thank goodness Tums are approved.

DH officially starts his much needed vacation tomorrow. My little Daddy's boy is going to be on cloud nine for 10 days while DH spoils him.

There is a position I really want at work, but alot of people really want it so it's not a given. Anyway, it starts a month earlier that my regular job so I better get moving if I have any plans of fitting into my work clothes. I'm working on my application for it today, wish me luck. Even if I don't get it, at least I love the job I have there.

Good luck Robin!pixiedust:

Congrats!!!!!:goodvibes

This is the first time I have made it. I just put a little olive oil in the frying pan, added frozen corn, salt and pepper and cooked it until it was a little browned. It was really good!

Ooh, yum. Will have to try that!

DH is leaving town tonight :sad1: Don't get me wrong, I love time away from him  but I have been gone so much that I'm bummed a weekend I'm off, he's gone. A cousin is getting married in Arkansas so he's hitching a ride with his folks and going until Sunday.

Tonight I'll have leftovers, I guess. I plan to hit the store tomorrow for some of MY favorite foods to eat while he's gone :woohoo:

Aimee- My husband used to have to go to Nantucket to work for about a week. The first thing I would do was get all the foods I like and he doesn't. I'd eat bacon and pineapple pizza and fish for most of the week. He doesn't have to do that anymore so I miss my pizza.

Nancy- Congrats to your whole family, what a great way to start off spring.

Lauren- I hated nursing but felt guilted into it. The best thing I did for both of us was switch to formula. I'm not telling you to switch, I'm telling you that you know what's best. If it's working for you and the little guy's healthy, sounds like your doing everything perfect.

Thanks for the good wishes for the job, I wasn't going to say anything unless I got it, but that didn't last long. The application process is long and tedious so here I am taking a break. It can take up to 30 days after the closing date for the applications to find out. We'll see how it goes.

Thanks everyone! I had to supplement with Andrew too but I really wanted to try and nurse 100% but it just is not happening. I did mention it to the dr and he was fine with supplementing too. He is gaining and I think he may be having a growth spurt. He looks like he is growing fast.

Thanks again! I knew you guys would make me feel better.

Hey Y'all,

Nancy, Congrats on the new baby in the family!

Ann, I'm glad everything is A-OK! :goodvibes

Robin, Good Luck!

Lauren, I supplemented with formula early on for DD, mostly due to nerves & worrying I think. After the soreness improved & I calmed down & got used to it, I didn't need to supplement. Just do what works best for you & don't let anyone make you second guess your decisions!

I haven't decided what's for dinner yet.

Thank you!!!!

Happy Belated Mother's Day!!!!!

Hope your tummy feels better.

I have a question about tartans, maybe you can help.....If a family such as Campbell has more than one tartan how do you know which is the correct one:confused3 I'm very confused:confused:

Hey ,still not feelin too good but I wanted to pass this on to youse....

It seems that there are Ancient,Modern,Dress , Regimental tartans and Area specific Tartans ( as in if you can trace yer family back to say Argyle )

All are right so it goes on your own taste.

Here is a site I found that explains it...http://www.tartanonline.com/tartanonline/tartan_a_c.html

I really hate it when new mom's are made to feel guilty when they aren't the milk machines some people think they should be.

Right after Timothy was born, Alan did a story for the news on one of the local hospitals. They were named as a "baby friendly" hospital. Sounds good, right? Well, in order to be called "baby friendly" they are required NOT to offer formula for supplementation. Women who choose to have their babies there will not be given the option of formula AT ALL. Also, the babies will not be allowed in the nursery after the initial examination. They MUST remain in the room with the new mommy for the entire time they are there. I was flabbergasted! One of the things new mothers are told is that they need to rest. You can't do that in the hospital if the baby is there non-stop! As to the formula thing, Alan asked the head nurse what happens if a mom doesn't make enough milk to feed the baby. The nurse said that every woman can produce enough milk to feed however many babies she has. Alan told her that I had just had a baby and by the end of the day didn't have enough milk for Timothy. The nurse looked at Alan and said, "your wife is lying to you. She makes plenty of milk." At that, Alan turned off his camera, basically told her off, and left without completing the story. He was so angry. He called me to tell me this, and said, if this had been Katie at the hospital, she would have died!

scotlass, Hope you get well soon!

Glynis, That hospital doesn't sound very friendly at all!

I hope I'm not going to get fussed by all of you.... I was supposed to go for the 2nd opinion Dr's visit today, but I cancelled. My SonIL Josh went round about to get Angelina a 2nd opinion. He took Angelina's MRI's to the head of his dept. an anesthesioligist. This dr. took them over to this nuerosurgeon I was scheduled to see today. The nuero. guy disagreed with Angelina's (& my) nuero doc Dr. Thomas on which disc needed to be repaired. (she does have 2 that are herniated). So then the anesthesia dr called Dr Thomas about Angelina. Thomas told him he felt very sure which disc needed to be fixed. The anesthesia guy suggested he do a procedure to diagnose it further. Thomas said she could have it done, but he didn't feel she needed. Well because of the questions Angelina had it done yesterday. The anesthesia guy failed to tell her just how painful it was going to be, she said it was really bad. Well it showed that Thomas was correct all along! ( Angelina didn't tell us she was having this done yesterday because it all came together quickly & she didn't want us worrying.)

So Bob & I discussed it last night & decided to keep my sanity I would not go for the 2nd opinion today. We were wondering if this nuero guy disagreed just for the sake of disagreeing, Competing drs & hospitals and all of that. As it stands right now, I'm 5 wks from the last injection & still feeling okay. We have not been able to get a Home Care Aid here for Bob. Until that happens I can't schedule surgery anyway. (We had another no show on Saturday, even after she came out to meet us during the week. She claimed she was sick, but didn't call us nor did the agency. )

Sorry this is so long & confusing!

p.s. I have leftover chicken breast & I'm going to do something different with swiss chard. Maybe stuffed or a tart.

Baby Vincent Joseph has arrived!
:yay: Congratulations to you and your whole family. Welcome little Vincent Joseph!

Grr...this made me so mad! I had some serious complications after Liam was born, and never produced a drop of milk. I met with a lactation consultant, took herbal supplements, tried pumping...nothing worked. Thanks to the anti-formula campaign, I felt like a failure at the time, but I think Liam has done okay. Every mom has to figure out what is right for her and her child.

Sheryl -- It sounds like you made the right decision. Keeping your sanity is better than a second opinion. I hope you find an aide soon!

Sheryl - I'm not going to fuss at you! You can only do as much as you have strength for, and I think that your various doctors are being quite confusing. I'm so sorry that Angelina is in such pain. I think you have enough on your plate right now, and as long as you are feeling ok, you should leave well enough alone until you are emotionally able to handle any more.
