The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

Just wanted to tell you all the good week my Dan and Erica are having. They are in Niagara Falls and decided to stay a few extra days. Dan stopped in at another hotel to see how it was inside and chatted with the manager. He told him to book a standard room online and once they checked in they could discuss an upgrade at a good price. :goodvibes The hotel is directly across the falls. At checkin Dan asked if they could discuss the upgrade and the manager told them to check out their room, if they still wanted an upgrade come see him. They were in a penthouse suite!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Floor to ceiling windows overlook the falls, two TV's, a gynormous jacuzzi..... They got some fabulous :wizard:!

That sounds amazing! What an incredible thing! I'm just a tad bit jealous! Ok, I'm A LOT jealous!

Quite the contrary. We had the Battle of Abraham Lincoln here last night. There was no blood shed, but there were tears. Liam also said he was going to call the police because I was being mean.

:rotfl:about the reason! You should have handed him the phone and told him to go ahead. ;)

Katie started with the attitude and irresponsibility when she was 8-9.

I worked in our programs for almost 10 years and that seems to be the age where girls first lose their ever lovin' little minds. :scared:

Angelina got word that everything is squared away & her surgery is on for tomorrow. The HR & ins depts fussed with the insurance company & got it all fixed. So her surgery is scheduled for 8:15 tomorrow.

Good luck to her.

Had a little excitement at work today! Two co-workers and I were in the one ladies office and 4 police cars come flying down the street and come to a stop right in front of our office building. :scared1: Cops and people start running. Our building is on a lake and they first ran one way then the other. Haven't found out what was going on yet, one of the police cars was still there an hour later.

About 30 minutes after that the electricity went out! :scared1:

That sounds so amazing!!:thumbsup2

Unfortunately it seems I'm starting with a UTI, looks like I'll be visiting my dr tomorrow.

So glad it all worked out!! Will this be a drive by surgery or will she be staying overnight?

Kat, I'm making do with what's in the house too. I'm going to try making pizzas on store bought naan! I'm doing asparagus, proscuitto, goat cheese with arugula pesto. We'll see how it turns out. I was going to make the naan, but decided not to bust my bootie this evening.

Tell me how that turns out - I often have leftover naan.

Unfortunately it seems I'm starting with a UTI, looks like I'll be visiting my dr tomorrow.

I had Mickey D's for the 2nd night in a row :headache:

When I was putting him to bed he wanted to know just what was I thinking? :confused3 he only had 2 meals he was going to call his dad and have me arrested. I asked if he was hungry, no but that was beside the point.:rotfl2:

Alexis came home from school yesterday with Jonas Bros. stickers all over her school folder & a picture of one of them torn out of a Disney magazine! I tried not to blast her on it, but I did let her know that Nana didn't approve. :sad2: It made me mad & sad. :sad1:

It does seem like they grow up so fast. Some of Caili's friends are talking about boys they want to marry and Caili is like :confused3 My best advice is to find something Alexis likes that is different from her friends. For Caili, that is skating.

Jacob wants to buy the house across the street from ours, so he can live there and I can do his laundry for him
 That is so funny! What is it about boys and food and laundry?

Angelina got word that everything is squared away & her surgery is on for tomorrow.

I hope everything goes well. I will be thinking of her.

Liam cracks me up!

Yeah, he cracks everyone else up too. My parents are both enjoying this...they figure it is repayment for me waiting until the last possible moment to do projects. I got a whole list when I talked to my mom today, and no sympathy. I did thank her for not killing me and Beck.

:rotfl:about the reason! You should have handed him the phone and told him to go ahead. ;)

I did say okay. He knew it was ridiculous, so he just did the essay instead.

Unfortunately it seems I'm starting with a UTI

Ugh..I'm sorry Kathy. I am prone to those as well.

So we had a fight-free afternoon here. I made fish and chips, onion rings, and beer-battered green beans. Does frying decrease beans nutritional value besides adding calories? My two ate way more green beans in one sitting than they would normally eat in a year.

BTW-- Liam got a 93 on his presentation today.

We had a minor scene here yesterday over school too.
Alexis was all stressed out & crying about kindergarten Career Day coming up on Friday. They want them to dress up & talk about what they want to be when they grow up, BUT they want it to be a professional or community helper type job. She was all upset because she doesn't want to do any of those kinds of jobs! She wants to be a Singer/Chef or an artist or a Magician when she grows up! I couldn't even calm her down. When Chris came home, she finally calmed her down & has convinced her to "act" like she wants to be a teacher. She is interested in planets right now, so Chris told her they'd make a poster of the solar system & she could dress like a grown up & wear lipstick. That worked!

This is odd that it's limited to those jobs. I mean, I get the whole "high expectations" thing, but really what kid has their sights set on Wal-Mart? :confused3

I'm sorry Alexis was all stressed out about Career Day. Why wouldn't they just let the kids pick whatever they wanted? I think it is pretty funny to hear what little kids want to be when they grow up. For example, Caili wants to own a farm (animals only...no vegetables), live in my house, and convert Liam's room into a bunny room when he moves out. She is also NEVER getting married.

My brother wanted to run an "apartment store" when he was in kindergarten. Not sure if he meant real estate or Macy's. :confused3 Although, an "apartment store" would be useful right about now...

My favorite though was a trick I learned as a teacher. Whenever you tell your child to do something and they say, "that's not fair!", just look calmly at them and say, "I know." That's it. It really takes the wind out of their sails, since you are agreeing with them, and not giving them a battle. It was always funny to watch seniors in high school try to come up with a retort to that!

I have a kid that will scream in my face "YOU NEVER LISTEN TO ME!!!" and I always respond, in this like monotone voice "Not when you talk to me like that..." and walk away and/or ignore it. Good times all around. :thumbsup2

She said she had to make a lot of money because she wants a house with stairs! I wonder if she thinks we are poor because we have a one story house?

She can come visit me if she wants stairs...I've got plenty! :rotfl:

To bad zoning rules only allow us to have a 2 bedroom house, the cat and dog are out of luck.

Zoning rules limit the number of ROOMS you can have? I don't think I've seen one like that before. Of course, I don't really look at zoning laws on my days off. Is that common?

Angelina got word that everything is squared away & her surgery is on for tomorrow. The HR & ins depts fussed with the insurance company & got it all fixed. So her surgery is scheduled for 8:15 tomorrow.

pixiedust: and prayers for Angelina.

That makes for an exciting day!

P.S. I can almost guarantee we will lose power at work on June 26 in the afternoon. Two years running we lose power on the last day of school. :confused3

Unfortunately it seems I'm starting with a UTI, looks like I'll be visiting my dr tomorrow.

 I hope you feel better soon.

pixiedust: This is for all the illnesses lurking around this thread. :grouphug:

Sheryl ~ prayers for tomorrow, please let us know everything is ok as soon as you can.

Kat ~ if you uncomfortable try the AZO over the counter to get you through the night.
Kat, have you heard from Wendie at all? Scotlass update?

Nancy did some Disney magic hit Niagra Falls?

My CT came back, my sinuses are pretty screwed up BUT the good news is I'm up, around, not contagious & good to go. Being outside today was pure bliss...I actually planted pansies....

Lindsay how is MIL doing?

Had the property surveyed so the fence can go up...you know what they say "fences make good neighbors".

Lauren if your in Bergen County to see Charles please call & we could meet for a cup of tea or go for a walk.....anything you need.

Dinner tonight was turkey rice soup I had frozen & some french bread.
Meeting one of my girlfriends tomorrow in the morning & just can't wait to chat & exchange books:)

Ours usually goes out when I have a lot of computer work to do. Today I was finishing up the paperwork for our programs for next week and only had 2 things to print out and I was done. :headache:

I would have stayed and done some cleaning up but we have a restaurant in the basement of our building that has a brick oven and it started to smell strongely like burning wood. Not sure what was up with that.

Just checking in. Jan is doing very well. She started her last round of chemo last night and should be done this morning. So far, so good!

If this wasn't enough for the family to be going through, Kevin lost his job the other day. I cannot imagine going through all of this with their mom and then getting laid off.

Morning everyone, a nice grey, spring day here. It's my turn to have the sick kid, a little tummy trouble last night. She seems fine now, but I figured she hasn't missed a day of school all year I'd let her stay home. Besides, I know she'd be really embarresed if she got sick at school.

Lindsay- I'm sorry for Kevin, hopefully he can make the best of it and be able to keep your MIL company.

Maria- I love pansies, they remind spring really is coming.

Bethany- My cousin wanted to be a cash register when she grew up! The bedroom zoning here is because of the septic system, if I wanted to upgrade it I could add more bedrooms. It all has to do with our freshwater. I basically live on a giant sandbar, so there is a water issue. Our water comes from "kettle ponds" that were left when the glaciers receded. It's really pretty interesting.

Laura- Mine could care less about Jonas brothers or hanna montana, if it's not a cartoon, it's not watched. We are all enjoying Phineas and Ferb. She still plays with stuffed animals, I don't see any point in rushing her along. I here about kids her age getting ipods, she has no interest in that at all. I will say, she definatly walks to the beat of a different drummer, as my mom would say.

I'm sure I missed something, but my oatmeals ready. Pancakes and bacon for dinner.

Good Rainy morning! If this means Buddy comes home early I will scream!

Robin- I hope your DD feels good today

Maria- Glad to hear you are out and about

Kat- I am about to make that same call to my Dr this morning. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Laura- I am the same with Marisa- I figure payback is awesome!
It's funny you ask about Timmy, he just posted on FB that he is pretty busy right now getting set up, whatever that means. He told his Mom he would call soon. For Gail's boys, no call is not a bad thing really. I'm glad to see he can get to FB, I will chat there with him and hope he sees it. Still waiting for his address so that we can start the packages and letters going. Buddy says he does not ever want him to think he is a forgotten soldier :sad1::sad1:. Those guys just amaze me, I know you know it all too well, but they are so confident and so sure of their jobs. Chris told me that when they came back home through Maine the first time he was not expecting anything, but they all got a standing ovation from the people in the airport. He was really humbled because he figured he was just doing his job :confused3 At that time the conditions in Iraq were horrible, packages and mail over 5 weeks to arrive, no real showers and water at "room" temp of over 100 degrees, yet these guys did not expect even a thank you, never mind that kind of appreciation.

DInner was really good last noight. That curried chicken is a new favorite. Tonight is not planned. It is Friday so Buddy and I don't eat meat and I am not feeling hungry so I cannot think of dinner yet, plus I am still :surfweb: when I should be catching up on my household chores :lmao:

Good Morning!

Prayers for Angelina this morning!

Stephanie, Prayers for your Aunt, Mom and the rest of the family.

Kat, Hope you're feeling better!

I am a little more behind this morning...our power was out until a few minutes ago.

We wound up having Chinese food last night so I will make the pot pie tonight. I saw Charles yesterday. He is doing a bit better pain wise since the accupuncture eased the pain some and he was able to sleep the night before. He has lost so much weight...it is really sad. I am going to try and get there again soon. There are some things that I can help out with. My SIL is doing a great job but I can tell she is tired and trying to do a million things and continue to work at the same time.

He is on a special diet so I am going to get together an organic vegetable/fruit order together to have shipped to them. He eats lots of juices, etc.

Maria, I was close to you yesterday but I was so pressed for time. I will definitely let you know when I am in the area and have some free time...

Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts. He can really use them.

Have a great day!

Lauren, I am glad you got to see your brother.
Kathy, feel better!
Nancy, that's great about the suite! They must be having a blast.

I came in to work this morning but I am still sick. I am going to a meeting at 10:30 and then going back home!

I think I am making curried fish for dinner this evening.

Kat ~ if you uncomfortable try the AZO over the counter to get you through the night.
Kat, have you heard from Wendie at all? Scotlass update?

Luckily I had some meds on hand from the last go round that I was able to start on, my Dr. is out of town today but will be calling in some refills today.

I haven't heard from Wendie at all, I'll call her today or tomorrow. Not expecting an update from scotlass until maybe Wednesday.

If this wasn't enough for the family to be going through, Kevin lost his job the other day. I cannot imagine going through all of this with their mom and then getting laid off.

I'm so sad for Kevin, hopefully things will turn around for him.

Kat- I am about to make that same call to my Dr this morning. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

I'm sorry you've joined me in pain.

I cannot even begin to imagine how our soldiers do what they do. To say that I admire their strength and courage just sounds so lame. What Buddy said is so very true and sad.:sad1:

I wish my guys liked curry as much as I do, that chicken would be in my rotation as well. I'm lucky to get the curried sweet potatoes occasionally.

I saw Charles yesterday. He is doing a bit better pain wise since the accupuncture eased the pain some and he was able to sleep the night before. He has lost so much weight...it is really sad. I am going to try and get there again soon. There are some things that I can help out with. Charles and his family remain in my prayers.

We don't eat meat on Fridays during Lent either, I'm thinking ahi tuna from Zea Rotisserie tonight.

Sheryl - Thinking of and praying for Angelina today.

Zoning rules limit the number of ROOMS you can have?

Oh MA has some crazy zoning laws. My town dictates what color you can paint your house.

Maria -- I am glad you are feeling a bit better.

Lindsay -- I'm sorry to hear about Kevin. That is lousy timing.

My cousin wanted to be a cash register when she grew up!.

Caili walks to the beat of a different drummer as well. I think that is a good thing, and I hope it continues. She does have an iPod, but she only listens to U2 and Annie.

I hope your daughter feels better. There is a stomach bug going around here as well. I am hoping we don't catch it.

he just posted on FB that he is pretty busy right now getting set up

That is a good sign that he has Internet access. Hopefully, he will check in often.

Dan and Erica are so lucky!

I'm sorry you aren't feeling well.

Greg has always had a big welcome home whenever he has returned from deployment or come back on leave. There are people who organize greetings in Atlanta and Maine. I really give those people a lot of credit. There is one guy in Atlanta who is always there. Greg is usually the only soldier on the flight home to Boston, and the last time, the captain announced that Greg was returning home from Iraq and everyone on the plane clapped and cheered.

Lauren -- I am glad you were able to visit your brother.

Sheryl -- Angelina is in my thoughts today.

We are having pizza tonight.

Nasty, rainy day here with the possibility of thunder storms. :scared:

Dinner tonight will be what I was supposed to have last night. Didn't feel like cooking last night.

Hey dr came in, surgery went very well. She is still in recovery, haven't seen her yet. I'll check in later. I'm on iPhone so typing is slow.
