The What's for Dinner Thread - August 2014 (recipe index in OP)

We have an event tonight called "flight school" and the subject is Agave. From the pictures I have seen of other flight school classes, they serve some sort of food item. If that isn't enough for dinner, I'm hoping that we pick up something else like maybe a corn dog on Main Street or a Mickey Macaron at the Jolly Holiday Bakery.

WFDT? Well, since our kitchen still isn't ready for gourmet meals (OR Franco American, for that matter! :rotfl: ) I went to a place nearby called Maywood Market - it's mostly fresh produce, ANY type of cheese that you can think of, a nice wine selection, and an unbelievable selection of hot food items, too yummy and too numerous to name....I got the Greek oregano chicken with potatoes and lemon, stuffed salmon (stuffed with grilled veggies) in a light lemon sauce, chicken marsala, rice with spinach and chunks of grilled chicken, chicken and fresh mozzi in a ciabatta bread, and grilled chicken breast with bruschetta and green onions in a balsamic glaze......

Can I join in? I am really shy and mostly lurk on the boards however I am trying to put myself out there so to speak and am commenting on the TR's I follow and joining in more on the boards. Until recently I mostly followed on my phone and that made it really hard to comment but my work schedule changed so I am on my laptop more.

WFTD? Well we are under a tornado watch and I didn't feel like cooking just incase we had to take shelter so I used a gc I had for Panda Express and had fried rice, orange chicken, and teriyaki chicken.

:welcome:

I've seen you on my thread and we're a friendly bunch although we sometimes go silent for a while at a time.

Tornadoes scare me incredibly. I'll take an earthquake any day over a tornado or hurricaine. Stay safe!

I am on your thread :wave2:

The storm ended up splitting and went North and South of us. My dd gets really scared whenever we have severe weather so in that way it is stressful for me. I think at least a hurricane you can prepare for.

That's why I like earthquakes! :thumbsup2 No preparation, just deal with the aftermath, and most likely you end up being lucky. Just make sure you live in a well constructed home and hope you're not on an overpass when it happens!

Glad you fared well in the storm!

That makes sense to me about the earthquakes. We have had a few tremors here but nothing big I think there from Kansas and Oklahoma. We live in tornado alley in Nebraska (blah). We are only here because of my dh's job. We grew up on the East coast and we didn't have tornados huge snow storms and one year my hometown flooded but no tornados.

Hi there!!! WElcome!

Well, for me tax season is over, as are my first quarter returns, so hopefully I get back to cooking.

I am planning a belated Easter ish dinner on SUnday, PRime Rib of beef and a large bone in roast, with all the trimmings. TOnight? I dont know...I must food shop. LAsy night I had boxed mac and cheese and Buddy had a hot dog at the Ag Expo at the FFA alumni cookout. HE is not an alum, but Kady and Daniel brought him anyway.

Tomorrow night is a surprise. Buddy and MArisa have something up their sleeves, but I dont know what. I thought we were going to IKEA on SAturday< (I have never been) for shelving and Swedish meatballs, but somehow the date got changed to Friday, my DDIL's DEmarle party dates got changed, and Buddy insisted I go shopping with Marisa for "new threads", and Kady cannot come. Really??? Buddy is taking her to dinner that night. Our IKEA mealball quest now has dinner planned at some unknown spot that Marisa cannot remember the name. I am a conspiracy theorist but for the life of me cannot figure out what is going on.

Have a great day and I look forward to being back here daily now!

Welcome to the Diner's thread!

Hope that it's a safe and calm tornado season for you all.

Monday night and it was a busy weekend for me!

DS came home from Japan on Friday. We really missed him and it turns out he missed us too. We were all glad he was home!
He had a GREAT time and I'm totally envious. He got to spend a day at Tokyo Disney Sea....and was texting me for intel on what rides to hit. They only had about 6 hours at the park; but that's better than nothing. The pictures he came back with on his smart phone look incredible! I need to get out to TDL next.

After a 3 week hiatus, I picked the camera back up again. On Saturday, I ended up shooting some Wushu Warriers at one of the Chinese temples in Melbourne. The backdrop was incredible and I was quite pleased with some of the pictures.
Then on Sunday morning, I headed out to a lake just outside the CBD. It's a salt lake and if the conditions are right, it turns pink. In the afternoon, it was a water balloon popping session! I had a lot of fun!

And it's back to school today, after the spring break.

WFDT?

I'm doing the one-pot Chicken rice with chinese mushroom, chicken, chinese sausage, ginger, dark soya sauce, kecap manis and light soya sauce. I'm also adding some sweet potato and salt fish into my rice pot. I love doing this dish for dinner. Everything goes into the one pot, turn on my rice cooker and it's done in 20 minutes.

Have a great day all.

howdy ladies...

It has been pretty crazy around here and I am hoping that I can get back to normal but not today/tonight.

We will be at the pentagon for a retirement ceremony, I have no idea when we will get back home. so no planning on dinner.
Starting tomorrow we will be getting back to normal hopefully, fingers crossed.

Hope you get back to normal as well, Brandi. It'll be nice to be chatting with you again in real time.

BTW - DH says thank you for the sour cream recipe.

He asked me to send you this one.
