The What's for Dinner Thread - August 2014 (recipe index in OP)

Morning girls,

Alison ~ Maybe it's a bug, because a couple of weeks ago I felt the same way. I truly thought something was wrong with me, I was so tired EVERY day. I could hardly keep my eyes open during the day. It lasted about 10 days, and now I am back to normal. It was a really weird thing. Hopefully you'll feel better soon.
Two hours opening packages :crazy2:

PIO ~ Hey you!! It's good to see you. I was getting worried that something was wrong. I hadn't even seen you on FB lately, so I am glad to know all it just busy. As I have said befor, I love your pictures. You are VERY good!!

Well ladies this is the week/weekend we are FINALLY moving back into the bedroom. Carpet is being laid tomorrow YEA!!! And Doug and I have taken off Thursday and Friday and we are moving back in and finishing the little things left to do. I can't tell you how excited I am. I will try to post a picture!! Ya'll be good and I will talk to you on Monday.

WFDT ~ Cheeseburgers, sweet potato fries and salad.

Make it a great day!!

Alison - Hope you're feeling better. Well done on the weight loss! I've been trying to be good lately but haven't been sticking to any of my good intentions. :(

Ellen - I hope we see pictures of the bedroom! Yes...all good here. Just been busy.

I'm only just getting enough candy together to support the sugar addiction of the neighbourhood kids for Halloween.

But you're right! I need to start shopping for Christmas!

We already bought our candy (against my better judgement). I'm sure we'll have to buy more before Halloween.

Tonight for dinner we are going out to Margarita Monday, so no cooking for me!

Alison, Margarita Monday sounds good to me. If I lived closer, I'd join you.

Tonight's menu selection is chicken cacciatore over rice.

/
That sounds good too Yoyo! But that's a cold weather sort of food, not for a day of 92° weather. I'm going to put that one on the schedule for when I get back from WDW and Palm Springs!

What's for dinner? Left over chicken cacciatore over rice, that's what. Tomorrow, it might be chili, if this cool weather holds.

Matthew brought cool weather. :headache: The high today was 71. I had to break out the long pants and the long sleeved T's.

I saw that, but haven't commented yet. Gorgeous! But where's my room????????:confused3

Saturday afternoon. I'm not sure what I'm doing for dinner but I feel like noodles tonight. :)

PIO, noodles sound good.

I'm not cooking tonight! DH and his men's group from church are hosting their monthly spaghetti dinner. Adults get a plate of spaghetti, a piece of garlic bread, salad, tea or soft drink, and dessert for $7. Kids plates are $3.

I'm still debating on what to have tomorrow night: roast pork loin or a new chicken recipe I need to try. Decisions, decisions.

From here on out dinners are going to be simple. Tonight is Frito Pie.

Tomorrow we are going out after our concert.

Monday we will eat the other half of a chicken & Green Chile enchilada, that we picked up a couple weeks ago, it's been in our freezer.

Then it's off to WDW!

Hello ladies,

I am so sorry I wasn't around last week but it was a nightmare. We had 3 funerals, and I had to get ready for our Church Conference which was last night. WOW, what a week. There were three nights that we didn't leave until after 6. We have one member hanging on, but just barely, so we are anticipating another funeral this week. They have been big funerals too. I can remember one January we had 9 funerals in that month. I hope and pray that this one is the last one for awhile. I haven't read back yet, but I will. So for today I am just going to jump back in.

We are totally back in our bedroom. I will post some pictures once I get the curtains hung. I told Doug I can't be there until we get curtains and then he reminded me that we live in the country. So it is all good. But I will be glad when they are hung. We are waiting on the extensions for the trim, then they have to be stained and installed. I guess the ones that came with are not the correct size. But that is all we have left to do. I love it!!

It is suppose to be in the high 80's today. We put the air conditioner back on. I am so over this hot weather. But at least we don't have the humidity and the farmers are loving it. Most of the soybeans are harvested and the corn is about 75%. It's been a good harvest, I just wish the price of corn was higher.

WFDT ~ Pork tenderloin, roasted butternut squash and sliced tomatoes with cottage cheese.

Make it a great day!!

Well I completely lied in my last post. We had nothing I posted about besides the Frito pie.

Oh well. We are in the downward stages to going to WDW. The suitcases are basically packed. I have to put stuff on the car, hut it's 8:15 and not 12:15. I am going to miss my kitties. I hope I don't gain too much weight! I am literally sown 30 pounds since the first of March this year, but I can't tell from my clothes since I wear them baggy anyways.

We ate up almost all the leftovers tonight I have about a cup of turkey a la king in the fridge and some eggs that expired on 10/12. Other than that most everything else will keep until we get back. See you on the flip side!

It's FRIDAY, it's Friday!!

I am really glad that this week is almost over. It has been ONE of those. Busy busy busy!!

Brandi ~ I think you are about to France. I don't even have to say "Have a good time" I know you will.

Alison ~ So how was the Imagineering Event? How neat that you can go to things like that. What did you have for dinner?
Oh, and if I was closer I would SO be there to help. Like I said - I love organizing!

For the last 3 weekends we have been in Lincoln for the football/volleyball games, but we are in Chicago this week so I have the weekend at home. We don't play until 6:30 tomorrow night so we have a few (a lot) chores that need to be done. Plus I have found a neat site that has crockpot meals for the freezer, so I am planning on getting some made up. There is nothing better than walking in the door after a long day and have the house smell delightful and dinner ready. I am the happiest when my freezer and canning shelves are full. The apples are ready also, so there will be pies, applesauce and cobbler filling made. I am really in my element here. :)

WFDT ~ Cheese steaks (the meat is in the crockpot) sweet potato fries and coleslaw.

Make it a great day and an awesome weekend.
Did you get all your canning done? I have not made applesauce since 2014, I put up 2 bushels that year, and we have not finished it yet, so no apples this year. How do you make your cobbler filling?

The imagineering event was great. We did a ton of shopping, had some hors d'oeuvres and wine before they split us up into four groups. The first thing we got to do was ride the Shanghai version of pirates via a simulator. It was really cool.
Then we saw a small exhibit of original concept artwork, and after that we went to the statuary where we got our pictures taken with the original Snow White and Seven Dwarves statues. We were not allowed to take any pictures, but there was a photographer who took pictures all evening. Hopefully we'll get copies of those.
The last stop was the audio studio where they mixed the sound for the attractions. They played the Shanghai version of the new Soarin for us. Evidently each park has its own version.
Then we were taken to a presentation room where we had dinner. They served wine and after all that walking I did a a couple glasses of wine, I ended up getting very tired. There was a salad waiting at every one's plate. We had two "no shows" at our table, so Fran ate hers and one more salad. It was good for banquet food.
The rest was served as a buffet. There was green beans, Hawaiian bread, cheese ravioli with Alfredo sauce, salmon and filet mignon.
The desserts were a little chinsy, but that was OK as I didn't need it. Everything was great, but I don't remember all the things they talked about in the presentation because I couldn't take pictures. Usually my pictures tend to jog my mind when I don't take notes.
By the end I could hardly hold my head up and I slept the whole way home.
The only problem u had was the next day I was all "backed up" and by the afternoon I felt so bloated that I changed our dinner from homemade burgers to soup and biscuits. Hopefully I feel better today.

WFDT? Those burgers we didn't have last night. Tater tots and Cole slaw.
Sounds like a great event, and sorry you were not able to take pictures. Hope you felt better soon afterwards.

Good morning Alison - I think it's just you and me for now.

Your evening sounds perfectly amazing. How lucky you are to be able to experience things like this. Isn't it funny how sometime a glass of wine will put you to sleep and other times it makes you want to party. It does the same thing to me.
I had no idea that each Soarin has their own music. How cool is that. Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful night with us.

We had a great weekend. It went WAY to fast but great non the less. On Saturday I got my pears and peaches canned. In the afternoon I put together 5 croockpot freezer meals. I am really anxious to see if this works as it was very simple getting everything together. I fixed: Hawaiian Pork chops, Sweddish meatballs, Chicken chili, Meatloaf and Chicken Alfredo. Yesterday after church we all (kids and grandbabies) went to our Methodist Camp Ground - Camp Comeca for a BBQ and Pumpkin Patch. Oh we had so much fun. We did a hay rack ride to the pumpkin patch to pick a pumpkin, there was a petting zoo, pumpkin painting, face painting, jumping house, and tractor rides. We spent 4 hours there and had a ball. I am sure everyone slept good last night. Oh how I love fall.

WFDT ~ Chicken pot pie, green salad and roasted brussel sprouts.

Make it a great day!
Ellen that sounds like a wonderful family event, about how many people come out for that?

Yes I guess it is just the two of us!

They don't have their own music, we just happened to be in the sound studio for the demo. What they do have is their own ending scenes. The final scene is different in Epcot, than in DCA, and different for Shanghai. However, I believe that they use the same soundtrack.

Was this some sort of "weekly meal plan" type of deal? One of my FB friends posted something like this a while back.

This cracked me up. I know that it is acceptable grammar not to put a comma after the last thing in a list if it is followed by an and, but there is a name for the comma after the last item when you do choose to use it. I read that phrase over and over wondering why you would put two proteins in a crockpot meal and why you would choose meatloaf to pair with chicken. :rotfl2: Then I realized that they were two different dinners! :lmao:

WFDT? Chicken Vesuvio with garlic bread to soak up all the garlicky yummy broth!
We always called that an Oxford comma, and I always try to use it for that same reason. Lists are tricky. My Govt Customer here always removes them from my documents and I always try to sneak them in.
