The What's for Dinner Thread - August 2014 (recipe index in OP)

We had dinner with Bret at the French Market. I had Jambalaya while Bret and Fran both had the French Dip sandwiches. Fran wanted a Mickey Bar after F! But it was just too darned cold. Bret was resolved to have his Dole Whip before going to bed tonight. We left him with 22 instant FPs that expire today so hopefully he can spread some pixie dust.

Oooh! Lucky Bret!

You and Fran are the best!

Good grief, this is the first time I looked at the clock and it's already 1:00. This morning has just flown.

Only 5 more days till vacation WOOHOO!!

Frozen ~ You make me laugh, cuz I was almost like you. I started one in High School, had one in Middle School when Matthew started Kindergarten. OH believe you me - Parent Teacher Conferences were fun there for awhile.

PIO ~ OH I am so sorry that you had to deal with that. I use to go to WDW with a huge group of people from another site. I actually met one of my dearest friends through the internet. But I have also met a few - very few - of Disney people that I do NOT care for at all, so I totally understand. Bless you!

Alison ~ Your dinner in the parks sounds wonderful. Oh how I had a Mickey bar right now. I would have loved those fast passes. How nice of you!

Kimmar ~ You are just being me now. :rotfl2: I am about 200 miles from the nearest Whole Foods. I get jealous just hearing all of the neat places you have access to. I just love tres leche cake.

We really didn't do a whole lot this weekend, but what we did do was needed and now that it is done I feel so much better. Doug worked in the corrals and arena all day on Saturday. It was one of those days that we started doing one thing and before we knew it we had worked for hours. We got all of the outside Christmas lights up, patio furniture put away and completely scrubbed. Our new hot tub will be delivered this Wednesday. The arena and corrals are ready for the spring calves, flower pots cleaned and stored, my herb garden pruned and froze, the floors vacuumed and scrubbed. As I write what we did, it sounds like a lot but it really wasn't. Saturday we worked in our short sleeves and at times it was hot. Yesterday it was cold and windy. I am so glad we got things done when we did.

WFDT ~ Shrimp pasta, cheese bread and tomato and mozzarella salad.

Make it a great day.

YAY! Where are you heading to....or need I ask??

We got all of the outside Christmas lights up, patio furniture put away and completely scrubbed.

That does sound like a heap of work!

Another busy day at work. It's going to be like this till early December. And then....I wonder if I'll get to slow down to Christmas at work?

WFDT? DH made a spicy vegetable dish to go with the baked potatoes. I ended up eating most of the vegetable dish with a bit of sweet potato. I've managed to keep up the healthy eating for a while. Not sure if I've lost any more weight but at least I feel better about what I put in my mouth now.

Good morning from the blizzarding Plains

Oh life is always exciting here that is for sure. There were 3 tornados close to us last night. No damage but dang it was scary. This is the latest tornados have ever been. Good grief it's November. But today we are under blizzard warnings. By noon it is to start. We are to get 5-8" but just to the west of us they are predicting 12-18". I have already told Pastor Dyton that if it gets to bad I am going home.

PIO ~ I know the feeling. I just feel so much better when I exercise and watch what I put in my mouth. I feel better all the way around.
We are heading to Albuquerque for Thanksgiving. Doug's Aunt and Uncle and all of his cousins are there. Every other year we travel and they come here on the off year. We have so much fun!! And we love the nice weather. Doug and the boys already have their golf T-times made.

It is starting to snow and the wind is howling. If I go home early, I am baking cookies. I found some pumpkin spiced Hershey kisses. I am going to make some peanut butter cookies and put them in the middle. I want to take them with us to New Mexico.

WFDT ~ Baked pork chops with dressing, and applesauce.

Make it a great day

We are heading to Albuquerque for Thanksgiving. Doug's Aunt and Uncle and all of his cousins are there.

Enjoy! And don't forget to take the left fork at Albuquerque.
I've always wanted to go there.

Enjoy your family Thanksgiving.

Good evening from warm Melbourne. It's 9.30 pm and it's still 27 C here! I think that's in the high 70's/low 80's?

I'm about 3 weeks away from project launch and it's super busy at work. I did toy with the idea of heading to work tomorrow but my initiative owner talked me out of it. So, if the weather is semi-decent, I think I might be weeding the garden and hanging around the house.

WFDT? It's Wednesday. And we all know it was mum's cooking.
She made a special Chinese herb and pork bone broth soup tonight. I'm still coughing and this combination is meant to be good for the cough. It did help....for a while but I'm back to coughing again.

Keep warm everyone.

Happy Wednesday,

I needed to take Ethan to school this morning and it was down right treacherous out there. We got over 2" of rain yesterday and then about 9pm it switched over to snow. We got about 4" of snow, but the worst part was the rain froze before it snowed so it was a skating rink. And there is NO place like a school zone on frozen ice. They are CRAZY!!!! I was so stressed by the time I got to the church - Good grief people.

PIO ~ I love the South west. Our drive is beautiful - as long as it isn't snowing and we can get through the passes ok.
I sure wish you would start feeling better. It seems that you have been coughing for a long time. Please feel better and don't work too hard.

I am going to the Y tonight after work. I need to work out some frustrations. :headache: Then I need to start the wash so I can get packed. I am getting kind of excited. It will be nice to just get away for awhile.

WFDT ~ Ham and scalloped potatoes, broccoli with cheese and pear salad.

Make it a great day.

Have a great time Ellen! You will enjoy the change of weather. Not that we have Arizona weather but close! It's actually getting pretty cold here. We've spent a few evenings in the outdoors and I had to wear gloves and a jacket! That's not normal for around here!

PIO - good luck on your launch and I hope that cough gets better. You sure have been busy with the photos though!

I haven't cooked in forever! Our walk in fridge went down Monday night. I think I had something planned for dinner that night so we ate everything we could out of the fridge and then transferred all the perishables that would fit into the "dorm fridge" we have in our Master bathroom. I had started a turkey thawing the night before so that was fun keeping a turkey in a tiny fridge.

We ate out Tuesday on our way to band, Wednesday was Shabu Shabu, Thursday I made pork chops with onions and cream of Chicken Soup gravy. Friday we did a tour of the WD Studios and they fed us lunch and dinner on the tour.

Saturday we had an impromptu dinner party with the turkey. We used the deep fryer we got last year for the first time, it was sooooo good!

I already told you about Sunday at the French Market. Monday was also at the park, but a substantially nicer meal. Last night was a spicy tuna roll and mixed vegetable tempura that I ate in the car on the way to band. Tonight we have tickets to Beauty and the Beast so we'll be eating at the restaurant just down the street from the Pantages.

Tomorrow we are back out to the park to eat at Big Thunder Barbeque before it goes away in January.

Whew! We've been busy, but a good busy! Friday starts the mad dash to clean the house for my parents!

Ellen - Stay safe with the snow. I know you always wish for the opposite of what you have....given that we had temps in the 90's today, a little snow and rain would be fantastic here!

Alison - You HAVE been busy. I'm envious reading all that you're doing. I'm being completely boring over here....except for the weekends and being able to take pictures.

Thursday night and like Alison, I feel like I haven't cooked in the longest time. Tonight, DS has a weekly music class so we're heading to the local Japanese restaurant for food. That Japanese ramen shop has become a weekly feature for us!

Have a great day everyone. It'll be Friday tomorrow and then the weekend again. I'm looking forward to the weekend.

Oh happy Thursday,

I have SO much to do today and tomorrow. I truly don't know how I will get it all done. Sometimes I wonder if it's worth going on vacation when it takes so much to be able to do so. I probably shouldn't be on here but I just have to check in.

Alison ~ Oh my, you are one busy girl. What fun you are having, and it just makes my heart sing to know that Fran is feeling good enough to keep you busy.
We aren't going to be in Arizona, but New Mexico. It gets cold there but nothing like here, so we are looking forward to it. The boys are taking their golf clubs and already have Ttimes. It just can get dicey getting there and back home as we go through the Rockies and a few passes. Oh joy!!
Enjoy Beauty and the Beast - you are so lucky!!

PIO ~ I have loved your pictures! You also have been very busy. I am so envious of all the neat places you and Alison have to go to. My little town is boring personified.

I really do have to get my fanny in gear. I have SO much to do. Haven't even start the wash, so there is no way I can pack. I hate doing things at the last minute, so tonight I might just have to burn some midnight oil.

WFDT ~ Chicken and rice (in the crockpot) with roasted Brussel sprouts.

Make it a great day.

Ooops! Arizona, New Mexico? What's a state line? Have fun! I hope you get everything done in time!

Have a great weekend PIO!

Last night traffic was so bad we didn't have time for dinner before the show. I ended up eating peanuts and a slice of marble cake as my dinner. When I got home I made a frozen chicken cordon bleu. Still our fridge isn't working right. It was 33 degrees all day yesterday. When I got home the cooler wasn't running and it was up to 40 degrees. I haven't gotten out of bed yet since I went to bed around 2AM, so I don't know how high the temperature has gotten today. Two nights ago I put the milk mayo and leftover turkey back in the fridge. Last night I moved it back to the dorm fridge.

Only 1/2 an hour till my vacation begins. Doug and Matthew have 1 1/2 hours. Poor things. ;)

Alison ~ Oh how I wish I could just pop over and see you and Fran. One day my friend, one day.
I am so sorry that your refrigerator is still giving you fits. That just isn't right. I hope they can figure it out before your folks get there. Have a Happy Thanksgiving my friend.

PIO ~ I hope you are feeling better. That cough worries me.

I am ready to get out of here and start this vacation. I can't wait. All of my work is done for the next 2 Sundays, payroll is paid and bills are in the mail. What is left Pastor Dyton is in charge of.

I have yet to get the wash done, but that will happen tonight and tomorrow I will pack. Everything else is ready.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you. When I think of the things I am most Thankful for you all are a part of it.

WFDT ~ A Caseys pizza and a beer. WooHoo!!!

Make it a great day. I will try to pop in but if not play nice and I will see you all on November 30th.

It's been one of those typical household chore-filled Saturdays. It was a sheet and towel changing weekend, so that meant a few more loads of laundry. Plus, the garden needed to be weeded again. Why is it that the weeds grow so quickly but the stuff I plant just falters?
In any case, I have two more lavender bushes to prune and I hope to get that done tomorrow....plus the rest of the front garden. My target is to get it done in the morning and if I do that, I'm hoping to persuade DH to go to the garden shop with me. We really need to get more vegies into the garden...and soon.

Otherwise, there is nothing exciting to report this Saturday.

Hope everyone is well.
