The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

Aimee - You will love Tchoup Chop!!!!!! We had the tasting menu with the wine pairings...incredible! When I get my pics uploaded I'll post them if you like. Our top five restaurants this trip were...

Tchoup Chop (degustation menu w/wine pairing)
Emeril's Orlando (degustation menu w/wine pairing)
Mama Della's
Citricos (best meal of the trip for me)
Flying Fish

Sheryl - My dentist is on vacation and won't be back until 11/9. They tell me I should be OK to wait that long, I sure hope they're right.:guilty:

Can't wait to see the chef's menus from Emeril's restuarants!!!! Lucky you! When we get over all of our trip expenses,we need to go out together & hit Emeril's & Delmonico's together. They are both very good too.

I'll pray that your teeth hold out until your dentist is back!:flower3:

Kat, You use the Lady & Son's Porkchop recipe often, right. Do I need the buttermilk? I've already run out to the grocery once & don't feel like going back out.

Nevermind Kathy, I don't have enough vegetable oil in the house either!

....Gotta start dinner & then pick up my girl. (I was so happy to see that child yesterday! I really missed her.) Dinner is going to be down home southern, mustard greens & pork chops, hopefully some corn bread too. I want to get back to eating healthy, but mustard greens just don't work. I bought them fresh at the market so I need to cook them today...

...mustard greens aren't healthy? :confused3

Well a little, but when you cook them down with pickled pork & tasso that kind of un-does the healthy stuff. Then when you serve it with fried pork chops & spoon bread you really have very little health stuff in there!;)

...what is tasso? :confused3

Tasso is a spicey smoked ham.

Sheryl I used a smoked turkey wing in my greens not as fat. sometimes I add a couple pieces of good bacon too. :worship:

Hi Girls,

Robin, how scary! I'm glad your electricity is fixed.

Lori, thanks for the photos....what a treat!

Becky, feel better. Rest, rest & tea.

Nan, we need party pictures.

Kat, hope the tooth holds up.

Ellen, poor Matthew. I'm sorry he's having such a tough time.
I have Jay's box ready to mail.....just have to get Greg to take it to the post office, it's much bigger than I expected.

Lauren, how was the open house?

Hope to see Vickie check in soon~

Dinner is up in the air. I was in the attic again cleaning out & then started pulling all the plants out of the pots.......I hate pulling the flowers out makes me realize how close winter is:guilty:

When are we getting pics from the WFD meet??????

Maria, I put out cornstalks, pumpkins, hay, and mums in my front garden. The house looks so Fallish I love it! Had To decorate for all my upcoming parties.

Welcome back all you have been missed.

Glad to see us luring in a couple of new people. Please join in.

Lauren, how was the opens house?

Becky, rest and get well.

Off to find my electric knife...my beef is almost done. Smells good.

I forgot to mention tonights dinner. Pannini's aka grilled sammies. Yes I am being lazy;)

Dinner figured out...turkey meatballs with roasted asparagus over chive parsley linguine.

Nice weekend, but now I feel like I'm coming down with something. Hopefully it's just the weather changing.

I hope it's just the weather

:yay: Yes, I want DETAILS!! :yay: And pictures!!!!!! :yay:

If you're on FB, you saw we went to Cracker Barrel. We never eat their real food, just breakfast. DH loves to go because he loads up on the candy in their store.

I don't know how to get motivated for WW again? I was doing so good... :sad2: I am still paying the monthly fee but haven't been in about 2 months. I've completely lost all willpower and just eat whatever looks good :confused3 Has anyone run into that before? How do you motivate yourself to stay with it? I mean, the weightloss each week was great motivation but the hamburgers and french fries are hard to resist!

Just thought I would share our Nassau excursion with peeps that I knew would enjoy it!

I enjoyed reading about it and seeing the pictures! I'm curious though...why do they have all the little walls? :confused3

Well I'm back after a bit of electical trouble (actually more than "a bit") but everything is good now. We are actually very fortunate we didn't have a fire.

:scared1: I'm glad things are good now!

Lauri- my house is tiny. That is part of the problem, there is not a lot of room to move things so I tend to move things from place to place. In addition to mismanaging time I am also organizationally challenged :lmao:

You sound like me! :rotfl:

We have booked WL for September 2010. We now have flight credit to use.
Something to look forward to.

I'm sorry you had to postpone, especially this close to the trip. But yes, something to look forward to!

I forgot to mention tonights dinner. Pannini's aka grilled sammies. Yes I am being lazy;)

Oh geez. If that is lazy, WHAT is the drive-thru? :rolleyes1

If you find out, let me know! :headache:

Robin -- Good luck on the costume! I made pretty good progress on Caili's today, so I might be finished by tomorrow...maybe. That is really scary about your electric issues.

Nancy -- I have time management issues, organizational issues, and lack of motivation issues. My neighbor and I were just discussing why we even bother. All of our efforts that take time are undone in way less time by our kids. I spend so much time just doing the basic stuff, I never get around to doing the intensive cleaning you do.

I guess we will see, that is if she does it. :rolleyes1 My sister said she would probably quit when she found out.

I hope she doesn't quit. She must be very good and motivated to swim as well as she does. If your niece wants to quit just because of one race, I would think the coach would not push her.

I am sure it will take some time to get over this as he really did love her. But I do see him sort of getting stronger, if that makes any sense.

That makes a lot of sense. Heartbreak is horrible, but I do think you come out the other end with a stronger self identity. When you are young, you throw your entire being into a relationship, with no regard to self preservation, but once you know how painful it is to try to find yourself again, you protect yourself a bit more.

Sheryl -- I hope you are feeling better. I'm sure you really missed Alexis. I'm glad she is doing so well!

I was in the attic again cleaning out & then started pulling all the plants out of the pots.......I hate pulling the flowers out makes me realize how close winter is:guilty:

I have a whole deck full of plants that are dead. I can't bring myself to empty the pots though. It feels like defeat.

I forgot to mention tonights dinner. Pannini's aka grilled sammies. Yes I am being lazy;)

Hey, you made dinner. When I am lazy, I don't.

I made potato cheddar soup for my dinner and macaroni and cheese for the kids. Tomorrow is our busy day...we will get takeout between skating and ballet.

Good Morning. Hand still hurts but want to try and catch up a bit...guess i should go to dr but I am in a bit of a funk.

riley is doing ok i guess. it is hard for me to tell. he is a bit chipper...dr for him tomorrow...we'll see what happens and then decide if we are going to cancel trip. i hate for my sister to have to nurse him.

open house was very slow...been a slow couple weeks.

gretchen, hope you all are feeling better.

sheryl, the same to you.

becky, hope you feel better too.

robin, glad everything is ok...electrical stuff is scary.

i hope i didnt miss too much. my hand is starting to hurt.

dinner will be burgers...taking andrew to get a costume and to the book fair so wanted something quick.

have a great day all!

Popping in dinner pic before I slog off to work. I made indian food. From bottom left corner, there is chicken korma, mutter paneer, naan (store bought), saag paneer, and chole chaat. Basmati rice in the middle (I dyed some of it for that authentic indian restaurant look!)

I think that is why I put off working out in my beds. I know that I need to get them done but I just don't have the heart. It seems so sad, we worked so hard to get the yard pretty and then there was no summer. Anyway, they are my last chore, Buddy emptied all of the pots for me. He cannot touch the beds, he was pulling all my perennials out :confused3

It happened several times. What helped me was going back to the meetings. No meeting means no accountability or me. I am there now. For some reason I am struggling with sweets, it is a constant draw for me...cookies, cake....muffins. All of the Fall comfort food has been a downfall for me.

Aimee- go back to the meetings, make the time a priority for yourself and don;t put anything else or anything in front of that hour. You deserve to give yourself the time to be healthy. When I chose to follow WW it was not to lose weight, I felt lousy all of the time ans did not want to spend the rest of my life feeling that way. The weight loss was a bonus. Your health will improve when you make your lifestyle reflect how you want to feel. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Morning. Hand still hurts but want to try and catch up a bit...guess i should go to dr but I am in a bit of a funk.

riley is doing ok i guess.

No wonder you are in a funk. You are trying to sell your home and make a move. That alone has to be overwhelming, but you are doing all of this with two kids and no help there on a daily basis. It must seem like you have a huge weight on you. I have no advice, just more :grouphug:

Let us know how Riley is today.

Sheryl- I hope that you feel better today.

Ellen- Mathew will get through this, he needs to adjust and that takes time but he will fund his way.

I took a roast port out of the freezer so that will be the protien. I have a red squash that I have never cooked before so I am going o try that.

Becky, that looks really good! Now I want Indian food and there is no place around and no one else likes it so making it would be a waste. Do you want a visitor?

Thanks Nancy. I am having a rough time about Riley. I still feel guilty about leaving him last weekend...like I could have done something if I was here. He seems to be OK. The eye is totally clouded over which the dr said it would and there are bumps where it ruptured but it does not seem to be leaking. Hopefully they can repair it a bit if not, they will take it. Which I guess isnt too bad...I guess he if feeling pretty good...he was giving tons of kisses this morning when I was cleaning his eyes and putting the drops in. he also is taking his meds which was a fight at first.

I forgot to post that I am glad the party went well the other day. I would love to see pics. Also, I am so glad that Buddy got good results from the dr. What a relief!

Aimee, I am struggling with getting back on track too. Before I went away, I was doing the diabetic diet I did while pg...it really works but I have not gotten back. I also do not have alot of stuff in the house. Its a great diet if you want to hear about it. It is easy to eat on the run too.

What a dreary rainy depressing day here. I better get started or else I will be in bed all day...time to get out of the poor me mood. I sent Andrew to the bus in a down pour...:scared1:

I am thinking of doing a meatloaf in the crock. Sides will be those yummy premade mashed potatoes and corn. It may be easier that making burgers later. Good day for comfort food.

***********
Kat, Sheryl, Gretchen, Stephanie, Vickie...Is it OK to post some pics here or on FB? It may be better on FB so I can limit the viewers to friends only... I can then email whoever does not have FB...

I have to apologize to all of you. I've been in a funk, the anniversary of Dad's passing is tomorrow and I haven't been good for much of anything. I haven't read back to catch up, I was only able to post recipes with Aimee's help. Again, I'm very sorry my friends.

Lauren - I'm fine with the pics being posted either place.
