The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

Marilyn - I so wish you could go to F&W, no chance???????

Janice - Sounds like you had a great night, food sounded awesome!:thumbsup2

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NANCY!! :dance3:party::bday:

Nan, I'm sorry I wasn't around earlier to wish you a wonderful birthday.:sad1: I have gained a dear & wonderful friend with you! I do hope it was a great day. :goodvibes

Now I'll go read back, I obviously missed a bunch. I'm sorry for not checking in yesterday. The flu shot on Friday, had me feeling like crapola yesterday. I hurt everywhere. Woke up feeling bad again this morning, but it started improving this afternoon. I guess I'm still glad I got the vaccine because I sure wouldn't want to feel like that for days.

Sheryl - I'm sorry to hear you had a bad reaction to the flu shot. I had mine this morning, so far so good.

Kathy, I am usually in that bad 1% ! :confused3:upsidedow I have had the same reaction a couple of years ago. I'm sure you'll be fine!

Glynis,I'm praying for you & your Dad. Waiting for news like that is so hard.

Stephanie & Laura, I am so glad your children are okay! Someone is surely looking after our children.

Laura, I'm sorry Cailli is sick now. I'm hoping this is just a 24 hr thing! i can't how scared you must have been at the rink, it must have been gut-wrenching.

I did decide to grill those shrimp on Friday. I took pics but haven't loaded them yet.

Marilyn, I'm glad you were able to meet Paula! That's cool!

Janice, That meal sounds wonderful!

Aimee, Fried butter!!! I hope you had fun! One year our church fair had Fried Twinkies topped with icecream & chocolate syrup! I'm ashamed to say that we tryed it! Yummy but something you only eat once in a lifetime!

I'm sorry I won't be meeting all of you in a few weeks! We REALLY NEED TO HAVE A BIG WFD MEET! Let's start thinking about a time of year that it could work! It would be a magical vacation! :wizard:

Marilyn - I so wish you could go to F&W, no chance???????

If I win the lottery! ;)

I really need to be good and not spend the money anyway, my van is worrying me and I am thinking it is not going to last another year. :headache: On top of that I need a new computer too.

We are still waiting on dad's test results. Hopefully we'll know everything tomorrow. I'm a nervous wreck, and have been snapping at Alan and the kids all day. I just want to "know", you know? I hate the unknown. Anyway, we're trying to be positive, and just wait. It's hard, though!

The fear of the unknown is often worse than the fear of the known, IMO. I hope the results are in first thing in the morning

Second, thanks for all the well wishes yesterday. After 2 days of treatment I am feeling almost 100%!

:thumbsup2

As some of you may already know, I didn't have to stalk Paula Deen afterall, I got to meet her!!!!!! :woohoo:

A friend of my sisters had extra tickets and gave them to another friend of my sisters and me! We were being rushed through the line because she had to leave for the airport so I didn't get a picture with her. Her DH Michael was with her and both of them were so nice and just smiley. We did stalk her though, we waited at the elevator for her to come out.

:woohoo:

Aimee, Fried butter!!! I hope you had fun! One year our church fair had Fried Twinkies topped with icecream & chocolate syrup! I'm ashamed to say that we tryed it! Yummy but something you only eat once in a lifetime!

They have everything fried there - candy bars, fruits (cantelope, strawberries, etc), veggies, ice cream, coke (that was a big hit a few years ago), and the winner this year was fried peaches and cream. Along with the butter. Most of them are just too greasy and sweet for me to even try.

Our fair does have Dole Whip every year - but I don't really like Dole Whips so I skip them at the fair and WDW. They were at the fair long before they became a fixture at WDW. I bet other fairs have them, too.

If y'all get a chance to see Mary Poppins, GO! I am a big musical fan and that production is in my top 3 of all time. My mom, also a big musical fan, was blow away. I don't want to give anything away - just know it's Disney, they put money into special effects, and it's just really really great.

We stopped at IHOP late tonight on the way home and ate at 11pm. Not the wisest choice but I already decided I'm sleeping late in the morning anyways - haven't had a chance to make up for the retreat yet! Work will see me when they see me

Good morning!

Well fall has fallen here it is 52 degree and very windy.

Sheryl
I'm sorry I won't be meeting all of you in a few weeks! We REALLY NEED TO HAVE A BIG WFD MEET! Let's start thinking about a time of year that it could work! It would be a magical vacation!

Unfortunetly the only time of year we could make it is summer. I can't take Alex out of school any more, since he is now in high school that is more important. Crappy I know, I've been playing with airfair for short trips but it is too expensive. $700-800 compaired to $400.00 for the 2 of us for 7 days.

I hope everyone who wasn't feeling well last week has a better week.

Glynis We are on pins and needles waiting along with you. I am praying for good news

I'll be back later after work.

Janice -- That meal sounded delicious!

Aimee -- I really hope Mary Poppins comes to the Boston area. I would love to take the kids. I'm glad you had a great time.

Stephanie -- I'm glad you're feeling better.

Sheryl -- Becky said her arm hurt for about three days after the flu shot. I hope you are feeling better.

Speaking of Becky, she found out last night that she won a photography contest and the photo has been published! It is one of her St. John photos. Maybe she will post it here, so everyone can see it.

Marilyn -- I'm glad you got to meet Paula Deen. She does seem like she is so cheerful.

Caili is still feeling sick this morning. If this is the same bug her friends had, I think it lasts around three days. We'll see. She is sleeping now, which is probably the best thing.

I won't be able to get to the store today, so I think I'm just going to make ravioli and red sauce. I'll make regular pasta for Liam since the ravioli contains egg.

Glynis – Praying for good results today.

Laura – How is Caili this morning?

Aimee – Hope you’re able to rest today, you are always non-stop!!!

WFD - White beans & rice, grilled Italian sausages and a salad.

Laura, sorry Caili is still not feelng well. Poor girl.

Aimee, I agree Mary Poppins is a great show. We saw the Broadway production & it has some wonderful "magic". So glad your feeling better.

Sheryl, hope your feeling better, DM had a bit of a reaction this year with the flu shot....Greg & I were both ok.

Marilyn, so cool about meeting Paula! Did you get a photo?

Glynis, please post as soon as you hear anything, my prayers continue.

Florida was tough because I saw 30 houses in 2 days.....one I really liked but based on the comps they were priced very high & not flexible at all so we passed.
I was able to spend some time with my bf & her family, I adore them all so it was very nice. One of our friends made us a wonderful birthday dinner.....just delicious & what beats the beach & palm trees while dining?

Dinner tonight will be chicken stir fry.....

Nancy, Happy Birthday one day late! I hope you had a great day.

Well, I took food photos over the weekend, but apparently forgot to upload them. I'll share with you all tomorrow.

Glynis, I am hoping for good news for your Dad today.

Marilyn, I saw your Paula Deen pictures on facebook. That must have been exciting! She makes some wild food. I once saw a show where she made a cheeseburger, and for the bun she used glazed doughnuts!!

Not sure wfd yet, John has a meeting after work so it will probably be something fast.

I put the photo I won with up on facebook.

No news, yet. I'll be sure to let you guys know as soon as I find anything out.

Dinner last night was really yummy! The kids even ate the roasted onions, so I know it was good! I was a little disappointed in the pear pie. It was really soupy. If I decide to make it again, I'll either cut down on the amount of pears, or up the amount of flour in the recipe. We'll see. There are tons of other pie recipes I want to try before repeating things!

Dinner tonight will be creamy chicken casserole. Warm, comforting and easy. Just what I need today!

Becky - Congrats on the picture. I saw it on FB and loved it!!!

Aimee - I'm so glad you liked Mary Poppins! That is one show I would love to see!

Well, the baby is crying to be held, so I'll be back later!

Good Morning! Thank you all for the birthday wishes! I know I say it all of the time but the friends that I have made here are :cloud9:. My day was wonderful!

I made a chicken pot pie last night but it was not very good. I did not tighten the sauce up enough so it was soupy. Tonight Buddy has the prep for a colonoscopy tomorrow so I am not cooking. I will have soup and he will have the chicken broth I am making along with jello and whatever else is on his list.

Morning Y'all,

Glynis, My heart & prayers are with you today.

Becky, Yeah! Congrats on the winning photo! :cheer2: I just took a peek & that is a really cool picture! Free airfare would be awesome. Now you need to find a food photo contest!

Janice, A summer trip would help all our Moms!

Maria, 30 houses in 2 days! Gosh you must still be tired!

Aimee, Fried fruit! That's a new one on me. I'm glad you didn't try it all!;)

Laura, I'm sorry poor Caili is still sick! :sad1 Hope it passes soon!:wizard:

Nancy, Poor Buddy, no sandwiches for dinner.

I don't know what's for dinner yet. Something simple, either fish or chicken.
I'm feeling better but still tired. I've got to get on the ball here, the housecleaner comes today! Always good, but I have to at least clear the flat surfaces so she can clean them! The neat thing is she is a Mary Kay user, so we barter! Make up for housecleaning, that's a winner for me!

Marilyn, so cool about meeting Paula! Did you get a photo?

I got a couple of her and her DH, they are on Facebook, haven't had a chance to figure out how to put them here yet. I had to borrow my Dsis's camera, I left mine on my bed! :headache:

Marilyn, I saw your Paula Deen pictures on facebook. That must have been exciting! She makes some wild food. I once saw a show where she made a cheeseburger, and for the bun she used glazed doughnuts!!

I haven't seen that one but she does make some interesting stuff.

A funny thing, her assistant kept saying she had to go, she had a flight to catch but people kept wanting their pic with her (this was after the signing on the way to her car) and he was the one taking the pictures for people. :rotfl:

Not sure about dinner tonight, mom got crabs yesterday so I will probably have some of them but there are only a few left.

Good morning everyone!!

This is a quick fly by for now. I haven't read back yet but I will.

Wow what a fun fun weekend we had. The Husker's celebrated their 300th consecutive sell out game. Lots of neat fun things were celebrated and an awsome fly over to boot. Fun and great times all around. Plus we won!! So sorry all of you Louisiana Lafayette fans.

Tonight starts our Community Christmas Concert practice - I know, I know can you believe it - only 2 1/2 months till Christmas . Stephanie and her Dad always sing in it so Stephanie will be coming for dinner before practice. YEA!! So dinner tonight will be ~ meatloaf, mashed potatoes, leftover salad and cresent rolls.

Make it a great day my friends. See ya all real soon.

Well I'm done with work for the season so you all are stuck with my until May!

Glynis- Hoping to hear good news soon.

Sheryl- My parents had a house cleaner years ago that would come every two weeks- my mom would always make us clean the house before she came.

Nancy- I'm glad you enjoyed your birthday

Aimee- I don't know how you fit Mary Poppins into your busy life, but I'm glad you did and enjoyed it. Hope your mom's decision making is going well.

I know I had more but I can't remember. Roast chicken, brown rice and a veg for dinner. I was hoping for acorn squash but it looked awful. Maybe roast carrots. Have a great day all.

That's so frustrating. I can't believe that with the housing issues they are having, no one is willing to budge on prices more. I'm sorry =(

Mom is having dinner with her girlfriends from high school tonight ~ I think we're going out for BBQ thanks to B1G1 free coupons.

She flies home tomorrow :sad1:
