The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

Tonight is taco night.

Aimee I am sorry you are now doing well. I hope you get to feeling better soon.

Kathy I am glad your little girl is home. Also very glad you finally sold your parent's home. It is a long time coming. I am sure Kyle is feeling run down with all he has going on. I hope things settle down for him soon. He is still too young to feel all this drama.

Off to straighten up this place. I will read back and see what I missed.

Thanks to all! Yes, a HUGE weight has been lifted off my shoulders, it’s long overdue and I thank you all for putting up with me all this time.:grouphug:

Lauren – How is Andrew with the move? It will be stressful for sure but yet still exciting. Sorry, I didn't have time to call you this afternoon.

Robin – The first thing I did was pick up Sammie’s bowls and toys, I couldn’t look at them. I’m sure it will get better with time but I do feel a lot better having her home.

Maria - I returned your call today, hope you got my message.

OK, I'm off to try and relax and enjoy some TV tonight, talk to y'all tomorrow!

Kyle just called and he was very excited. There were 16 pitchers trying out and only 3 made it through to next week's try-out and he was one!!!:yay:

Kathy, that is such awesome news! I was just checking in quick and about to logout to watch SYTYCD but I had to respond to this. Good luck to him next week! Congratulations on the closing too.

I will catch up with everyone else tomorrow. Dinner was a crockpot chicken dish.

What great news!!!!!
Please let him know how proud I am of him!!!!!! :woohoo::woohoo:

Quick fly by post to let y'all know we DID CLOSE on M&D's house this afternoon and we also have Sammie back home where she belongs.:cloud9:

Asking for good thoughts for Kyle. Today is day one of walk-on try-outs and he is sick, maybe cold or flu, not sure yet. Poor kid can't catch a break.

Hooray!!!! I'm so glad that the closing happened! What a load off your mind!

Good thoughts for Kyle! Hopefully, he'll do well, and get better quickly!

Glynis how do you read a book in a day with sick kids, a house & a husband? Please share your secret~

It helps that I read really fast! I mean, really, really fast! On top of that, I put the kids to bed at 8:30 and then I read after that, and I get up at 5:30 in the morning to read before the kids get up.

But, don't be too impressed this time. The book was really quite short.

WOOHOO!!! Way to go, Kyle!!! Continued good thoughts for the next part of try out's!

Zipuzee, glad to see you sticking around. We love to add new girls to the mix. Name please so we dont keep using screen names.:) You probably know about most of us from lurking, but ask if you need anyone intros or a WFD roster!!

Ann - I'm Lauri and live in Madisonville, LA (near New Orleans). I actually used to post here fairly regularly about a year or so back (before Lauren and Glynis had babies - I remember them announcing their pregnancies :thumbsup2), then life kinda got in the way. I've been slowly working back into the groove over the last few months.

And if you are still running fever tomorrow, then you'd better get yourself to a doctor!

Aimee - sorry you aren't feeling well either.

Glynis - I hope you get things worked out for Leslie. When my DD was in 3rd grade (many years ago), anytime she had a cough or runny nose her teacher sent her home. She didn't seem to understand what allergies were. It was very frustrating, to say the least.
As for reading, I have enough trouble getting thru the daily paper, and everyone in my house is self sufficient.:rolleyes1

Kathy - again, congratulations all around. Seems to me that today was a good day.:thumbsup2

We ended up at WOW Wingery for dinner.

:yay: and

Sorry I've been absent the past couple days. DH is in Toledo on business so I've been playing single parent. Also just been down in the dump--but I think that's mostly due to the weather. We've had this weather system stuck right on top of us since the weekend. And it's supposed to be raining into the next couple of days. Just very depressing!

We've had that same system ~ it's poured rain since Friday :confused3 Kinda depressing after awhile, though the cooler temps are nice. I hope when the sun comes out it'll perk you up a little.

Evening y'all,

Kathy, As I said on the Nola thread, Yaaaayyy!!!! I'm so happy the house is finally sold. Woohoo, Yippee Bravo for Kyle!!!!:yay::cool1:

Dr Maria, I think you're probably right! I think it's sinuses, just not a full blown infection yet.

Aimee I'm sorry you're feeling so bad again! Prayers that you get better soon.:flower3: I don't know how you manage it all.

Lauri, It's nice that your hanging around! I'm glad for you because that must mean life is a little less hurried.:goodvibes

Stephanie, I'm sorry you're blue. I hope the weather clears up & the hubby comes home soon!

I'm sorry I've probably missed someone. But it's late & I've got to get to bed. I can't afford to sleep away another day.

Thanks everyone, I am so happy for Kyle. Whether he makes it further or not isn't as important as the fact that he gave it his best shot.

Aimee - How are you feeling?

WFD - Spaghetti & meatballs, cheesy bread and salad, bbl........

Kathy--how very exciting for Kyle!!! Congrats to him!!!:cool1::cool1:

Aimee--looks like this system moved your way a bit overnight. Unfortunately, we are still getting rain too. Enough already!

Lauri--good to see you back!

Scott will be home tomorrow afternoon. It's hard b/c he used to travel a lot and now that we've been in Arkansas he hardly travels at all. And if he does, it's for a day or two, not a whole week. Luckily, with Katelyn here I have someone over the age of 5 to talk to at night.

I think I'm gonna throw some chicken in the crockpot for Glynis's lime chicken nachos tonight. Now to scrounge up the recipe. Time to get the troops dressed and out the door.

Holy Moly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!You all were really chatty yesterday!!!!:rotfl2:

My poor little Angel has a cold, she was not eating yesterday but we blamed it on her teeth. They seem to be giving her a terrible time. Anyway, I was giving her a bath and all of a sudden her nose turned into a faucet and apparently ran all night long. She is in decent spirits but sneezing a lot, poor little peanut. Welby told me to call her home if she seems to get worse so we'll see.

Kat-:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: for your entire day yesterday! A closing and Kyle in the top three!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Steph- good thing you have your new DD living with you. When my sister was alone she loved it when Marisa was there. She was old enough to hold a conversation and young enough to keep her in stitches :goodvibes

Laura- I have no idea what Kady is taking :rotfl: I am lucky that I know it is gymnastics :rotfl2:

Glynis- Hope Timmy is better today. I have allergies and asthma, can the Dr give Leslie something to control the cough? I know that when I was coughing my asthma was acting up. I never felt like I was having issues but it was remarkable how much better I felt when the meds kicked in. I was just used to it but the cough was really telling me something. RIght now I take Advair twice a day. The Advair is the lowest dosage but it keeps the minor inflamation in my lungs away. The cough was not a cold cough, I was not contageous, it was a symptom of the inflamation in my lungs.

I am so glad you scheduled your mammogram!

Aimee- you cannot catch a break! Feel better today!

Lauri I am so glad you're back!

Ellen- I am also making an appointment to get teh flu shot, I hope that Mathew gets through this self imposed educational nightmare!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a focused guy you have here!

I know I missed a lot but my brain just quit!

DInner last night was roasted chicken adn sweet potatoes. We funished the sauerkraut and the salad too.

I think I will make some chicken soup today. I have a CCD meeting tonight so we are going to finish teh chili I made (that means I will finish it) and I will simmer the leftover chicken for Buddy to have hot sandwiches with the soup.

Ann, several days with a fever as an adult is not acceptable, you need t see a doctor! (lecture finished).
Knock on wood...no fever this morning. I have more energy and feel a bit better. Thanks for the lecture to keep me in line!

Glad you are back Lauri!...fever free and feeling better. :cool1:

Thanks everyone, I am so happy for Kyle. Whether he makes it further or not isn't as important as the fact that he gave it his best shot.

.
Being sick and still making it to the final three moving ahead...he has every reason to hold his head high and be proud. Sending continued prayers for tryouts.

Stephanie, your honey will be home soon. It must be nice to have another adult around while he was gone. I know when DH worked nights, I would just go to my parents to have adult conversation on those long days.

I know I have been sick, but have I missed Bethany??? Where is she??

----

WFD -- ????? I need to look in the fever and see what I have.

Good morning everyone. I'm running through quickly this morning but I wanted to check in and see how everyone is feeling.

Aimee and Ann - I hope you both feel much better today.

Nancy - I hope for Nola's sake and yours she has a good day. Poor little one.

Lauren - Thanks so much for the card.

Maria - I need to contact you about how many you have me down for on the dinners. I know we had 3 on Cali Grill, but how many do you have me down for Citricos?

WFD - Baked chicken, roasted potatoes, and some kind of veggie.

Kyle just called and he was very excited. There were 16 pitchers trying out and only 3 made it through to next week's try-out and he was one!!!:yay:

:woohoo: WooHoo!! This is the best news I have heard in a long time. Hopefully Kat things are looking up.

Ellen- I am also making an appointment to get teh flu shot, I hope that Mathew gets through this self imposed educational nightmare!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a focused guy you have here!

Thank you so much for the kind words. Yes, he is very focused and determined. We are very proud of him.
My arm hurts this morning but the shot is done and for that I am happy. I am such a baby! :rotfl2:

WFD -- ????? I need to look in the fever and see what I have.

Are you sure you are feeling ok? :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl: Love ya, and I am glad your freezer is gone. :rotfl:

Stephanie ~ I heard on the news this morning that you guys were getting another day of rain with some flooding. Hang in there sweetie this to shall pass. The hubby will be home soon so hopefully your blues will soon be gone.

Aimee ~ I so hope you get to feeling better soon. I don't know how you do all that you do with feeling so miserable most of the time. You are an inspiration!!:worship:

It is another beautiful day in my neighboorhood. The sun is shining. Tonight is golf night (they are slowly fading fast) so I am agin on my own. I have no idea what will trip my fancy but I will BBL and let you know.

Make it a great day everyone.

BEEF BOURGUINON (from the food of France cookbook) .

I have that cookbook and I love it!!

Kyle just called and he was very excited. There were 16 pitchers trying out and only 3 made it through to next week's try-out and he was one!!!:yay:

Yay Kyle! And congratulations on the closing!!!

Aimee, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! I hope you are feeling better today.

Everyone else that is sick, I hope you are feeling better too. It's that time of year...all kinds of bugs going around.

WFD: I did not make John the steak last night, so will tonight. Also making spinach, roasted mushrooms, and smashed potatoes.

Morning y'all,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AIMEE!!! I hope the birthday girl is feeling better today!

Ann, I'm glad you're feeling a little better this morning! Prayers that you continue to improve.:flower3: (Bethany as been checking in on the Nola thread & I think she checked in here just a couple of day ago. S.he's fine just busy)

Nancy, Prayers that Nola doesn't get any worse, hopefully just a little cold. :flower3:

Kathy, You must be so proud of Kyle! It takes quite a strong young man to have the confidence to attempt trying out as a walk-on! I know he'll be disappointed if he doesn't get in, but I also know that he as enough self-confidence & strength to handle whatever comes! Be proud Mama!!:thumbsup2

I didn't make pizzas yesterday because Alexis came home with her tummy hurting. I'll make that today. I'm going to try my hand at sourdough pizza crust.

I need to crow about my littlest one, she's had nine tests/quizzes to make up due to her absence. Her lowest grade was a 95!!! :yay::banana: She's doing really well, even with the spelling & reading. Now if we can just figure out why she finds homework to be such an awful chore, when the work seems easy enough for her.

I also like to ask for some good thought & prayers for Angelina today. I can't say much but it's for her possible business venture.
