The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

PRAYERS PLEASE...

I just got off the phone with the hospital in Maryland, my MIL has had a major setback & is in & out of consciousness.....I just had them agree to move her to a cardiac floor.
Thank goodness for the Dis, I was answering stupid posts while calling back forth. What did we do without the Dis....

Greg & I are on our way to the doggie ER, Lily won't walk or take steps.
My heart is breaking...

thanks

Tonights dinner will be something on the go. Maybe sandwiches:thumbsup2

WFD - Grilled lime/chipotle pork chops, au gratin potatoes and zucchini crisps.

Maria, sending love and prayers to you and Greg. Best wishes for your MIL and Lily. I was so sad to read you are going through this.

Dinner was sorta a bust. Any suggestions? I made chipotle chicken club sandwiches. Almost a rotisserie chicken worth of shredded chicken, mayo, garlic, lemon juice, cilantro, and chipotle pepper in adobo sauce all mixed together. It called for 1 chopped pepper, and some of the sauce. Well... I couldn't even finish half my sandwich it was so hot. Now I admit to being a big baby with hot stuff but I couldn't drink enough to get through that sandwich!

Would mixing more mayo in it help take the heat down?

I ended up eating the bacon off it and calling it a day. I'll be hungry later!

I would turn it into a pasta salad. add some sour cream instead of mayo or maybe some plain Greek yogurt.

I'm watching Hell's Kitchen too! Gotta go check out Nola on fb......

Me too! I am irritated that they gave that challenge to the guys. Are you kidding me????????????????? Put a guy on the show who is grossly obese, know he has heart problems and then give a challenge that is sure to kill him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Once you agree to have him on the show Ramsey had a responsibility to refrain from that kind of challenge, If he refused he would have compromised the team, he agrees and then compromises his life. I am furious with the ignorance!

With that said...................get rid of Tenille, Jim, Andy, and a few more!

PRAYERS PLEASE...

OMG! Maria, please call when you can and let me know how all of you are doing. I am praying for little Lilly, your Mom, your MIL and Greg. If I can help let me know!

Maria--sending lots of prayers for your MIL and for Lilly

Well, today is Emma's first day of kindergarten. I'm happy for her b/c she is so excited. Just hard to know that I won't be only "one" in her life anymore. We did get to meet her teacher and her assistant on Monday night and both are fabulous! I'm sure I'll shed a few tears this morning. But seeing her little smile waking up this morning makes it a little better. Will post more after dropping her off!

WFD? Have no idea.

Good Morning! Sorry I have not posted...I have been reading along but find it hard to post all the responses. I am hoping to get back on a schedule when A goes back to school.

Maria, I hope today is better for your Leona and Lily...hugs to you and Greg. Please call if you need me or you can always test an update or whatever.

****
Guys, if you go on Nancy's wall and see where she posted a comment on Welby's pics, you can see the whole album of Nola...

Nancy, she is such a sweetie! What a great smile and those beautiful blue eyes...God Bless! How is Buddy doing?

Ann, Prayers for your Dad. I agree the scooter would be great but getting him to use it may be another story. I loved having the scooter in Disney when I was pg...

Kat, any news on the house?

Janice, Yay! of the addition of points! We are hoping to add on in the future.

Aimee, I hope the little girl went through surgery OK and recovers quickly. Poor thing.

I just lost my train of thought...I will bbl to catch up more.

Dinner tonight will be something with chicken cutlets...maybe marsala.

Have a great day all!

I just commented on two pictures of Nola. I think this will open her albums. She is almost a year now so she has changed a lot since then. Go to my Wall.

Morning Y'all,

Maria, Prayers for your MIL & for Lily! Prayers for you & Greg too.

Stephanie, I hope you're okay this morning! Hugs for you Mom!

Well Chris was here with Alexis this morning to put her on the bus for the 1st day. Well 10 minutes after the bus was supposed to arrive, Chris put her in the car to take her to school. Bob & I went inside, as soon as I walked to the kitchen, I heard a bus. I ran outside, Chris had stopped the car, because Alexis saw the bus first & was screaming to stop the car. Chris said she unbuckled & jumped out of the car into the street. Luckily not right in front of the bus. Anyway by the time I got there, the bus had already turned the corner! So no getting on the bus pics. :sad1: Hopefully I'll manage to get some when she comes home on the bus this afternoon.

Well I'm cooking some kind of bread today, it's day 10 on the starter. I think I might cook shortribs.

I saw her cute little self on FB :cloud9:I know that it is hard for Mom but oh so exciting for Emma!

Poor kid :sad1: The bus schedule is never right the first week of school. Thank goodness that Alexis is okay, looking forward to pictures this afternoon. I hope that she loves the bus!

Marisa is letting Kady take the bus this year. I think Pa and I are having issues with that. She has gotten so big this past year :sad1: I have to admit I don't remember feeling so sad when Marisa was her age, but even shopping was for school was hard for me. No more clothes from the Disney Store, no more cute cozies for her to snuggle up in. I want my little Princess back.

Dinner needs to be something quick. We have our psuedo WW meeting today and I hope that I can go. Nola is not feeling well but I don't know what is wrong so we'll see how the day goes. Welby has already called adn her Daddy said to call if she cries. He will come right home. I hope it is teeth and that they sprout soon!

Maria, sorry to hear you are going through so much right now!

Aimee, did you take the seeds out of the chipotle pepper before you chopped it up? That can help bring the heat down. You could always rinse the chipotle sauce off the chicken, squeeze it dry, and start over with a different sauce. Or else I agree with Nancy--more mayo or sour cream.

WFD: probably grilled cornish hens.

Stephanie, Emma is so cute!

Nan, I saw Welby's profile pic with Nola. She is a beautiful child! I hope it's just teething that's giving her trouble today & nothing worse.

Nancy, If I were able to drive right now, she wouldn't be getting on the bus this morning! I know how you feel, she is just growing up too darn fast!:sad1: I remember being sad when Angelina had her "firsts", I cried for all of them. But I feel like I have a different perspective with Alexis. I don't see the need for her to grow up quickly at all.;)

(I posted a pic of Alexis on FB.)

Sheryl most bus drivers have no problem taking 1st day pictures make sure you let them know that's what you want. Also the first week it's very hard to be at each stop exact time. It usually gets better.

Hi Girls,
Here are the updates....

Leona is coming around a bit but not enough for her docs or Dr. Maria.
They gave her a pint of blood overnight to try to rinse the medication from surgery out of her system & it just hasn't done much.
I spoke to the nurse on the new floor this morning & her vitals are good. I asked her to review the orders from the doctors for today & she told me that there were none. The last nurse I spoke to last night said there was an order for Narcan (which will reverse the anesthesia meds) but the family refused!!!!!!
I called Greg at work had him call his sister on a conf. call. She said that the siblings refused because they were going to wait for her to be on the new floor. Why I will never know but of course 2 shifts later & a change of floors and there are no longer orders for Narcan. The doctor rewrote on our request. If anything we will know if there are any serious residual effects from her being unconscious for many hours.
When I asked my sister in law when all this started she said noon yesterday. "Mom didn't seem to be breathing right & her color drained". So glad they rushed to the phone to call us. We received the first call 7:30 last night. They had the medication going on a slow drip so hopefully when I call the nursing station in an hour or so I will have more information.

Poor Lily was at the ER for 2 hours...they have come up with no reasons for what is going on. They did xrays, her eye pressure (to rule out stroke) blood that we will have back this afternoon.
The vet said something was wrong but he couldn't put his finger on it. She is on 3 days of "bedrest" & medication. He said no playing, stairs, walking more than enough to pee outside. She won't even consider doing any of that, that was the reason we knew something was very wrong. Before we took her last night we pulled out all the stops to try to make her react in her regular bubbly self & cheese, cookies, crackers, her favorite toy & all failed.
She will not use her back legs/feet for anything. I've made her a little nest on the living room floor & all she does is sleep. It breaks my heart that 24 hours ago we were playing in the yard. I hope I didn't overlook something that has caused this.

Thats all for now.....I will be here.
Thank you for praying for us...now I'm crying. You make me understand what family is. God Bless

I have to apologize....This isn't all about me...so sorry. I need to be a better friend.

So glad our "girls" are growing up & exploring their first day of school. Can't wait to see photos & hear stories.

Nola is just amazing! Nan, I can understand how you makes life sunny!!!:goodvibes

Lauren, how was the beach?

Kat, great news on the closing being so close! This is a long time coming:hug:

Anything I missed I apologize.

Heading to FB to see the schoolgirl!

(I posted a pic of Alexis on FB.)

I know how you feel. I was in a hurry for Donny and Marisa but by the time dan came along I was way easier. He just did not cooperate ;) With Kady it is so different. I talked to her preschool teacher one day and she told me her Mom said the same thing....give them time and keep them little. This year seems to be the hardest, she is going to be 8 and the summer saw her get "older" :sad2: :sad1:

All set for closing on 9/4!!!!!!:goodvibes

Oh my goodness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :yay::yay: Asking my Mom for special thoughts, 9/4 was her Anniversary :goodvibes

I have to apologize....This isn't all about me...so sorry. I need to be a better friend.

Enough of that! I am :headache: with your IL's! For Heaven's sake, do they not realize that you have some knowledge in this area and would be best suited to handle your MIL's care? I cannot se many good decisions that they have made lately. Continuing to pray for Leona's recovery

Poor Lily  Gail's dog had some paralysis in her hind quarters but the vet said that happened to large dogs. Lily is just a peanut. Riley had no pain and some kind of med helped her out. Pamper your little friend and let us know how she is doing. :grouphug:

Morning, everyone!

Maria - I'm praying for Lily and your MIL as well as you and Greg. Please let us know how things are!

Stephanie - How did the drop off go?

Sheryl - I hope the bus situation resolves itself for Alexis! Her picture on facebook was adorable!

I got Katie off to her first day of Jr. High this morning. She was so excited to go, and I'm sitting here biting my nails! I know she'll be fine, but I just wish I could be there to smooth her way! Oh well!

I've got back to school night for the elementary kids tonight, so Katie will make some pizza for us while we're there. I've bought everything, she just has to assemble the pizzas and cook them. Not too hard. We'll throw together a salad from our garden, as well. We've got a bumper crop of lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers, so that will taste good!

Have a great day, everyone!

Maria, I don't understand why the IL's refused the medicine. :confused3 That makes no sense at all. I'll be praying for Leona & for that whole situation. I hope the vet finds an answer or Lily justs gets better quickly.

Kat, Do you feel confident about the sale? I'm praying it happens.

Glynis, Jr High already! Wow it does happen fast. It's nice that Katie is such a big help around the house! Your home grown salad sounds wonderful.:thumbsup2

Lauri, Thanks, that's exactly what the principal told Chris at school while she & another parent were freaking out waiting for the bus to arrive at school. Apparently our stop is one of the 1st ones, she was on the bus for 40 minutes!:headache:
