The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

Maria~Welcome back glad you had a good time.

Laura~Hope Liam gets to pitch and they win.

Amy~Hope your feeling well

Kathy~Hope your feeling better with the antibiotic. Hope all is going well with the shopping for Kyles apartment.

Lauren~Glad Andrew is back from camp. Hope he had a great time.

Janice~I envy your ability to redecorate:worship:

WFD left overs from dinner out last night and homemade pizza. We celebrated sons 18th birthday and our anniversary.

Everyone have a great day.

First off, Liam's team lost. They were ahead 6-0 for a while, but they couldn't hang on. Liam didn't pitch, and all the runs scored in the two innings when he was on the bench. I guess only a mom would notice a stat like that. ;)

I want a lobster roll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I enjoy one once in a while but Iike it on a hot dog roll, warm and topped with butter.

I like lobster rolls -- my mom makes Jasper White's recipe, which has mayo, tarragon and cucumbers in it -- but they all have to be on a buttered and toasted hotdog bun. I hope Buddy is feeling better.

So I'll be going out this evening for Indian Food at Emeril's! :confused3:laughing:

Alexis has no INNER Diva! It's all on the OUTSIDE!!!

I'd love for us to meet, and for our girls to hang together too!

Ooh...I bet that will be great!

 Somehow I knew that about Alexis!

I think Alexis, Caili and Kady would make a pretty good trio!

I have been wearing lip liner on my eyes and eye liner on my lips!
 At least your shades must be sort of similar. If I were wearing blue slate on my lips and a pink shade on my eyes, it would look pretty funny. Did Andrew have a good time at camp?

Maria -- Welcome back!

Dinner today was lobster rolls and tomato salad for the adults, and burgers, salad and potato chips for the kids.

ETA: Aimee if you can do CG Christmas night, that is definitely where I would want to be!

WFD left overs from dinner out last night and homemade pizza. We celebrated sons 18th birthday and our anniversary.

I hope that your celebrations were wonderful!

I wanted to tell you that I was sorry to hear about your neighbors crops. I cannot imagine losing all of that. I am friendly with our insurance agent, she worked for the FSA for years so she makes sure we all have our ducks in a row insurance wise to make sure that if we suffer a loss we are good shape. I hope your neighbors are not going to be hurt to badly.
The gal at the farm bank told us that some of the veg farmers either do not or cannot take insurance on their crops, if they suffer a big loss they cannot take a loan until they pay the one due, as you know they are pretty much bridge loans. A few years ago she told me that if was hard telling these guys that they could not borrow to prepare their fields and set their crops and because these are co-op banks these notes are secured.

Grilled cheese at a fair? This was a little gourmet. It was a sweet version and had Brie, Mascarpone cheese, dark chocolate, and Raspberry preserves. :cloud9::love:

I am drooling just thinking about that sandwich

I have to go get ready for church, so I'll try to be quick! DBob surprised me with a ressie at Emeril's tonight!! They're having summer specials at all of his rests. Cuisine's of the World. So I'll be going out this evening for Indian Food at Emeril's! :confused3:laughing:

Her tapping her inner diva! That's too funny! Alexis has no INNER Diva! It's all on the OUTSIDE!!! We either call her the drama queen or THE DIVA! She never keeps it hidden or under control.

Nancy, Buddy is just great! Your kids & Kady & probably all the neighbor's children too, are very lucky to have him!:lovestruc I just love this big man but who's so sensitive to children's feelings! It's very nice.

I'd love for us to meet, and for our girls to hang together too! Alexis makes up the words & sings louder than anything!

I know I keep telling you that your Bob is a wonderful man but OMG! He just outdid himself :goodvibes:goodvibes

I could picture your little Diva but when you posted those videos of her singing the picture just crystalized! I was thinking of her when Kady and Miranda were singing. Buddy was driving and he kept trying to keep a straight face :rotfl:I know tha tthe girls woudl get along well, they ae oth sensitive nice little girls and they SING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Buddy was talking to a coworker who has visited NOLA. He had laughed at me when I told him all about hte food and that I have always wanted to visit (he thought I was lookign for a reason for a roadtrip, as if I ever need a reason :rotfl2:) Anyway he had to come home and tell me that his buddy told him that NOLA was made for hungry food lovin folks :thumbsup2

I almost painted myself in the room with no way out. :rotfl2: I finished the walls yesterday. I wanted to put a primer down on the floors since the previous people had pets :rolleyes1. I don't want to smell anything or give my guys anymore hints. Boy that stuff is smelly primer.

Visions of I Love Lucy going through my head :happytv:

Hey all, i am here but trying to reclaim the house and laundry. andrew came home friday and then left again to go by his dad.

tom surprised me yesterday with a trip up to north jersey and we went to lunch at Houlihans and then went to Carlo's Bakery in Hoboken...home of the Cake Boss!!! That is Buddy from the TLC show and from some of the cakee challenges from food network.

Lauren- wrap a receiving blanket around little Tommy's belly and back. It will stabilize your Big Bopper :thumbsup2

Did you sample any of Buddy's cakes? What was his shop like?

Boys and laundry :laundy: :lmao:

Okay- your eyebrow and eyeliner thing has me :lmao: but not at you. My MIL is a little odd. She and DFIL were in charge of his SIL's estate after she passed. She was in AZ, so that was a hike. Anyway, they sold off a lot of pricey collectibles because they did not know what they were and then paid a fortune to send a lot of junk home. I mean used makeup, old socks, old rusty kitchen gadgets open cologne. That kind of stuff. One day she shows up at Marisa's for a party with two bright saphire blue eyebrows  They were lopsided so she looked like she was raising them in a very odd very high and strange quizzical manner :scared1:

Noone could say a thing but we did give Janice a little heads up...Meme was using the old makeup an not in a good way:rotfl2:

Hi Everyone!

Welcome Home! I missed you!!!!!!!

Aw, what a great memory!!! Maybe we should have Christmas dinner there :rolleyes1 if I can even get a reservation! It'd be two credits, or we could just pay OOP.

I think it is worth two credits. I would ask your Mom what kind of night she wants and ask her to book it at any of those spots you thought that you would like.

Now don't laugh.....could you expand your directions for the tea? I think I am obtuse today

Okay, dinner is off. Buddy saidhe does not want ot eat so I am going to eat what we have and if he changes his mind I'll make him some eggs and toast or something.

We're back from a great week!
Cruised back into NY this morning & now wishing I could call room service:goodvibes

Welcome home, we missed you!!!!

Kathy--I looked at the CG menu and I had Yoshie's Deluxe Sushi Platter. I think it depends on the day what's on the platter.

Thanks!

Wonder where Ann is, haven't heard from her in a while?????????

Lauren - You have me :rotfl: with the eye/lip liner.

Thanks for all the good thoughts and wishes, I'm feeling much better. Kyle & I finished up shopping for is apartment, can't believe how much $$$ I've spent over the last few weeks but he's all set!!!!!

Well we barely made it to church. Big thunderstorms came through, it slacked off, so we thought we'd better make a run for it. Our subdivision had flooded streets which is unusual, then when we past the canal, we could tell the pumps weren't running. Finally made it to the hwy. only to have to pull over & wait. Started to make our way home, then passed the canal & could see the pumps were finally on. Waited a bit, then made it to church only about 5 minutes late!

Good morning all!

I almost painted myself in the room with no way out. :rotfl2: I finished the walls yesterday. I wanted to put a primer down on the floors since the previous people had pets :rolleyes1. I don't want to smell anything or give my guys anymore hints. Boy that stuff is smelly primer.

Why is this so easy to picture you stuck in the room?! I sure hope you had some windows open while you used that smell primer! What type of flooring are you going to put down?

Just got home from the farm. Picked tomatoes, beets, red and yellow raspberries, peaches and some leaks and a few onions.
.
That sounds wonderful!:thumbsup2

tom surprised me yesterday with a trip up to north jersey and we went to lunch at Houlihans and then went to Carlo's Bakery in Hoboken...home of the Cake Boss!!! That is Buddy from the TLC show and from some of the cakee challenges from food network.

Sheryl, i have not talked to Maria but i think we may keep our regular ADR at Blue Zoo...I really want to try his menu...funny story...I have been wearing lip liner on my eyes and eye liner on my lips! :scared1::rotfl: Have fun tonight!!!

OK, baby is fussing in the saucer...gotta go get him. he is not 100% steady in the things so he bops around...

Have a great day all!
I'm glad you & Tom got out for some fun! Did Andrew have a good time at camp?

You were doing WHAT!!!! :eek OMG I couldn't believe this when I read it. So I had to go see what colors you had! That's not to bad, you have neutral lip liner & bronze for your eyes, so now I understand! At first I pictured you with BLUE LINED LIPS & RED LINED EYES!!! I was thinking Poor Lauren she must be so tired.

I'd still like to convince y'all to join us at the Signature Dinner! The regular menu is amazing enough now think of Todd's specials paired with wine. Todd E is on the list as the chef & I read he did speak last year.

Hi Everyone!

We're back from a great week!
Cruised back into NY this morning & now wishing I could call room service
The ship was by far not my favorite but the company, water & beaches certainly made up for it!

Wanted to share my new favorite drink (the official drink of Bermuda):
Dark & Stormy:

Welcome Home!!! I'm glad you had fun! (please read my above enticements for you & Lauren to join DH & I ;))

How fun!!! I've never dine at one of his spots - be sure and review it when you get back!

I'll try! Don't know if I'll get pics or not.

I like to do ropa vieja with a pot roast. I love it.

Glad you had fun! You deserve it!

First off, Liam's team lost. They were ahead 6-0 for a while, but they couldn't hang on. Liam didn't pitch, and all the runs scored in the two innings when he was on the bench. I guess only a mom would notice a stat like that.

I'm sorry they lost! That coach shoul have put Liam in! ;)

Yeah no big surprise that she's a diva right! I think they would all be great together. Although Alexis does tend to make up these games that only make sense to her. Of course then she cries when the other girls don't want to play the game.

That's how I pictured Lauren! Reddish pink eye & blue lips, like she had been on a week-long drunk or very very ill! So yes her colors are very similar. Thank Goodness!

I know I keep telling you that your Bob is a wonderful man but OMG! He just outdid himself :goodvibes:goodvibes

Yes, sometimes he is just the best! But other times.... :rolleyes1:laughing:

The girls would get along great. We'll put all three in the car & let Buddy drive them around. ;)

That story is too funny! Blue eyebrows! :rotfl:

Kathy, I'm so glad you posted & that you're feeling better! :goodvibes

I'm happy you've finished your shopping, but i do remember how expensive it all was!

Sheryl - You wouldn't have to talk me into Todd's sig dinner, it's worth the cost just to sit and watch that gorgeous man.....

Lauri, I'm sorry I missed this....Happy 18th Birthday to DS and a Very Happy Anniversary to you!!!!!!!!

Sheryl - You wouldn't have to talk me into Todd's sig dinner, it's worth the cost just to sit and watch that gorgeous man.....

I wish you were going to be there!! I didn't realize you had such a crush! I'm only there for the food & drink and don't you tell Bob otherwise! ;)

I wish you were going to be there!! I didn't realize you had such a crush! I'm only there for the food & drink and don't you tell Bob otherwise! ;)

Big time crush, when we went to bluezoo I had our waiter in stitches asking if he was there, had he been there, if he looks as hot in person.......

Lauri -- Happy anniversary and happy 18th birthday to your son!

Kathy -- I'm glad you got all the shopping done.

Sheryl -- Caili makes up games too. She always has. Greg always remembers how I saved him from playing princesses when Caili was three. It was an impossible game. She got all of the good princesses and the ones who were left weren't allowed to do anything. If they did, she would scream. And yet she expected the other person to play. :confused3

I am so glad that you are feeling better! I hear you on the apartment shopping! It is expensive!

I think Alexis, Caili and Kady would make a pretty good trio!

I cannot help but wonder what the result would have been in Liam pitched :rolleyes1

I can just picture those three girls in one place :lmao::dance3:
Between the singing, the stuffies and the dramatics......... But I still think it would be :cloud9:

Yeah no big surprise that she's a diva right! I think they would all be great together. Although Alexis does tend to make up these games that only make sense to her. Of course then she cries when the other girls don't want to play the game.

The girls would get along great. We'll put all three in the car & let Buddy drive them around. ;)

Kady makes up rules too. I have to tell you that her friend Miranda understands the rules! I refuse to play those games, I am too confused. Buddy has not learned to say "No" though. It is priceless when he tries to follow a game and the rules change to suit the girls.

I think that he is the only one brave enough to lock himself in the car with them....he would get them ice cream when he was at the end of his rope...and then offer one more if he needed the break. He is supposed to take the miniature golfing this week. He still cannot figure out how he ended up owing them this treat but by the time we got back on Saturday night they had him convinced that he needed to bring them this week.

So. Let me get this straight. One Airborne Ranger vs One little girl......

Girl 1 Ranger 0

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm............................:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Sheryl Don't worry about me. Window was open and fan was blasting. That primer had shellac in it, luckily it dries very quickly and the smell is gone with in 30 minutes. The flooring is from Home Depot Trafficmaster ALLure. It is a floating vinyl plank like laminate only no saws needed.

The floor is 3/4 done I'm taking a break and cooking dinner. I picked up a lime cilantro flank steak from Costco today. I figured I would want something fast.

Kathy, I am here...just scanning quick! Where did the weekend go. I just told Ron I did not really DIS all weekend. We ran around to car dealerships this weekend trying to decide what route we want to take. The car search was unsuccessful and continues.... Thanks for worrying about me.
I have alot to catch up on, but it will have to be much later gotta get my cuties to bed.

Welcome home Maria, I miss ya!!

Talk to you all tomorrow.

Laura - I'm so sorry Liam's team lost. I would have noticed that stat as well.;)

I cannot help but wonder what the result would have been in Liam pitched

So. Let me get this straight. One Airborne Ranger vs One little girl......

Girl 1 Ranger 0

I felt badly for one boy who pitched today. He pitched three other days this week, and it was obvious that his arm was tired (he pitched three innings yesterday) and he gave up five runs. I don't think the coach managed that well. If Liam pitched three innings yesterday, and the coach asked him to pitch again today, I would have said no.

Believe me, the score is far worse. Caili kicks his butt. It's amusing.

Janice -- You are painting and flooring AND cooking?? I'm impressed.

ETA -- Thanks, Kathy. I figured you would notice something like that too.

Hmmm, I could swear I quoted some posts.

Ended up going all the way to my sisters house, she was going to the movies with some friends and needed a babysitter, her DH was at work.

Took the girls to Wegmans, was very good and didn't visit the hot food bar like I usually do, just got essentials. Got some baby spinach, going to have a salad of that, raspberries and goat cheese or blue cheese.

I'm back from a wonderful dinner date with hubby! It was wonderful, I'll try to do a review of it tomorrow. Although I'm going to have my girl tomorrow & she's sick.

:confused3

Wow Alexis had one very similar. If she was Ariel the other person had to be Ursula or the eels! and so on... Not fun, glad to hear Greg appreciates being saved from that!

Bob said to tell you & Becky he's sorry about your Sox!

I can just picture those three girls in one place :lmao::dance3:

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm............................:rotfl2::rotfl2:

That is too funny!

Another man down! Girl 1 Paw 0 except the score is probably more like 100-0

Talking about the girls & drama, Alexis told her Mom today that "When she coughs it makes her knee hurt!"

Who is this Masked Woman? She tears out carpet in flash, cooks dinner in a dash!

You are worrying me with all of this hard work, you're gonna hurt yourself!

Kathy, I am here...just scanning quick! Where did the weekend go. I just told Ron I did not really DIS all weekend. We ran around to car dealerships this weekend trying to decide what route we want to take. The car search was unsuccessful and continues.... Thanks for worrying about me.

:

Ann, Good luck with the car shopping! :wizard:

I start work tomorrow...about 12 hours from now. :scared:

Don't be scared, you're going to be great!:goodvibes

Now don't laugh.....could you expand your directions for the tea? I think I am obtuse today

The latest CL had recipes for flavored iced tea - I have tried two so far. All of them start with simple syrup (1/3 cup sugar, 2/3 cup water, boiled until sugar is dissolved).

Peach - put 1 cup chopped peeled peaches in a bowl and mash with a fork. Pour the hot simple syrup over it - cover and let sit 30 minutes. Strain through sieve and discard solids. Stir about a tablespoon into a glass of iced tea.

Mint-Lime - put 1/4 cup chopped fresh mint leaves in a bowl with 3 two inch strips of lime rind (I just stuck some lime rind in a bowl, didn't measure it much). Add hot simple syrup, cover and let sit 30 minutes. Strain and stir about a tablespoon into your tea.

I ran out of time and just made the mint-lime tonight, just poured the syrup into the jug of iced tea I made, and it was all gone before the party was over.

They also had Raspberry-Chambord, Lavender, and Cucumber-Ginger directions if you don't have the issue and want them.

Big time crush, when we went to bluezoo I had our waiter in stitches asking if he was there, had he been there, if he looks as hot in person.......

I start work tomorrow...about 12 hours from now. :scared:

You will do GREAT!! When do the kids start back? Ours don't go back until the 26th. Some of my friends are going back this week to work on their rooms but they don't have to be back for another week.

The party tonight was good with lots of tasty treats. A friend made her "signature" quacamole - secret ingredient? BACON!!! It was the most delicious quac I've ever had. It was smoky and delicious. She just chopped up crispy bacon and mixed it into regular quac. I think I may make a batch this week... :rolleyes1
