The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

Vick, I'm very worried about you. Please let your body heal & take care.

Nan, I do love the "gloss" but being my office is now my kitchen I usually don't get it.
I was hoping to get outside decorated for Halloween/Thanksgiving today but that isn't looking so good.
How is Kady today?

Kat, how is the ankle?

Bethany, love that your food palette is expanding!!!!!!!:thumbsup2

Bison tonight...bbl

Another thread made me remember drinking these...now I want one!
We use to drink them while tailgating at football games.

Hot Apple Pie :drinking1(Adult Beverage)

Ingredients
10 ounces apple cider
1 ounce tuaca liqueur (or to taste ;))
whipped cream
cinnamon

Directions
-Heat up apple cider in mug in microwave or on stove top in saucepan.
-Add Tuaca and stir.
-Top with whipped cream and cinnamon. ( I love it garnished with a lemon twist and cinnamon stick instead.)

Maria, I have my fall decoration up instead...but I am dying to get my corn stalks and scarecrows out on the porch. I usually put up hanging mums but I am not going to bother with them this year because of our trip.
Maybe next weekend I will convince DH to go get them in his truck.

My little guy is napping. He fell asleep around noon, I was laying with him but Emma decided to wake up. He hates to nap now so you know he is not feeling well...Mom could have used a nap as well but now I am DISing.

Bored!!!

Hey Y'all,

We had a nice time at the fest this weekend. Went out there early & watched LSU in the biergarden. That was fun. Then Bethany found us. We hung with them, I did have to almost force-feed her that gumbo! ;) It was so good, she just had to try it!

The crowd for Chicago was huge, Jazzfest size. We somehow ended up in the middle of the field with people just packing in all around us. Chicago comes out, is sounding great & we start feeling raindrops. So we had to get out there before it rained, the field was already soft & Bob would have ended stuck in the mud. I had visions of Woodstock mud! But we still had fun. Of course 2 days was overdoing it & I'm paying for it now.

Vicki, I'm so sad that your having all this trouble!:flower3: I'm praying for this to clear up quickly before your flight!

Kat, Try not to jump up & down during the Saint's game today! Rest that ankle.

Nancy, I hope Buddy starts feeling better!

Janice, Your brother hunts PEASANTS???!!!!:lmao:

Ann, Sorry Luke is stuffy!

Lauren, Did you get my pm? If my order doesn't come in soon enough, I'll be packing your MK in my luggage to bring to you. I hope you stayed far away from that MK booth! ;)

Okay, I'm paying WAY too much for my hair! If Maria's paying $165 in NYC!! When I get the full deal, cut & 2 step color it's $180!!! I know crazy. I was going to this guy for my cuts, & going another place for color. With the surgery & everything else it was a pain. But I didn't realize he was going to be sooo expensive for the color. I'll go this week, but will probably be looking elsewhere.

Sorry if I missed someone.

I have to ask for prayers for Alexis again. The IBS type symptons have gotten worse. Chris took her to the dr yesterday, they x-rayed her, didn't see anything. Dr. described it as hyperactive bowel & said to keep treating the pain, diarrhea/constipation with appropriate meds & give it more time. Chris had to explain that it's starting to cause problems at school & the dr wrote notes for that. Chris has herself totally distraught & in tears from reading on the net, that some people who've had appendectomy at an early age continue to suffer with IBS & develop other bowel diseases. I tried to calm her down & make her realize we need to give it more time. I do know how miserable IBS is & can't imagine our poor little one dealing with this for life. :sad1:princess: Chris told her yesterday, she was going to cut out milk, cheese, etc for a while, Alexis was very upset.

I will get the recipe from DM sometime this week for you. She makes it for me because it would go to waste at my house and Dad loves it.

I am going to try your Italian Ravioli Stew this week, I bought the fixings and am going to add me own twist to it. I figure I better put some meat in there for DH. I am going to try adding mini pork meatballs to it.

Thanks in advance for the recipe! I can't wait!!! I definitely think some meat would go a long way with the stew. Next time I make it, I'm going to try browning some sausage to put into it. Yum!

Poor baby! Of course she is in my prayers! Chris too. This is a scary thing for a mom to see!

It is a gloomy, rainy day here. Very cold, and of course our furnace is kaput! We have someone coming to look at it tomorrow, but today, we freeze!

Dinner tonight will be baked chicken with curried pumpkin apple soup. Not sure about dessert, though. I wasn't planning on doing anything, but we need to keep the oven going to heat up the room! Maybe pumpkin scones or cookies.

Poor little girl.....My prayers for all:hug:

Now you are talking...I  scones ! Have you made these before? If they are moist and delicious please share.

Thanks!

Let's see...I just HAVE to post what I had for dinner at the festival. :lmao:

I saw Sheryl and her DH! :goodvibes Well Sheryl made me try something...pheasant quail andouille gumbo. NO LIE. :faint:

Yes, it was good. She'll back me up on this. :lmao:

I'm so glad y'all got to meet up! that gumbo sounds yummy!

Aimee More than half of a beer cheese soup success or failure is in the beer you choose. That much I've learned.
Some of the recipes call for lite beer - is that right? Lite beer is :crazy2: but maybe in a soup it's the right thing to use :confused3

Vickie!! Oh my gosh, dear! I tell ya - tooth pain has to be the worse pain on earth. I've had blockages and I couldn't handle my tooth pain and I didn't have a mad infection going on like you do! You poor soul  I hope you have good drugs.

I adore Chicago and am so jealous y'all got to see them.

Are they sure it's not IBD?

this morning has worn me out for the day, I think. I had so much on my plate I ran around like a mad woman, and I led in worship (in a role I've never taken so I had to work in some practice time!), and then covered for afternoon teachers with sick kids, and now I'm in my office waiting until the rest of our programs are over. I need a nap.

My family is getting together tonight... I really want to see everyone, but I really would rather curl into PJs on the couch with my pups and watch TV. Dinner is up in the air.

Vickie- I worry about you too! You have had a lot this summer and do not need to be dealing with this pain, especially so close to flying.

Sheryl- Poor Poor baby :sad2: I am going to ask Marisa to give you a call. She has dealt with Dairy for a long time so she can add more than I can. Dairy is in everything but we have a lot of subs for it.

I have two roasting chickens ready to pop in the oven I'll have mashed potatoes and gravy, roasted beats and sugar peas on the side.

Sheryl Sorry my spelling today is worse than usual. I meant Pheasants of course peasants might taste good if you are really hungry and cooked long enough ;):rotfl2:

I finally got to the home improvement store to get some top soil. We filled in the hole in our front yard. I had visions of trick or treaters falling in. :scared1:

Vickie I am so sorry you are going through this. I had a tooth that went bad and had a jaw infection. That was so not the was I wanted to drop 15 pounds. I hope they are aggressively treating this. Not just because of your trip but because it is serious. Try to eat small amount alot through out the day. Yes I know it is difficult but try. Keep rinsing out your mouth too. That help draw out the infection.

Glynis I hope they are able to fix your furance cheaply.

My hairdresser charges $65.

Really? Can your hairdresser come here? The last time I had a cut and color, it was close to $200 and I didn't even like it. That is why I haven't had it done in so long. I just can't spend that much on my hair, especially since most of the time it is just in a ponytail!

The cost of hair up-keep is what keeps me out of the salon except a few times a year. I'm just too cheap. I get a really good haircut a few times a year and color it myself.

That is what I do. I'm glad you won the art auction!

DH is at the Patriots game today.

He saw a good one! :thumbsup2 I hope Luke feels better soon.

Real tough week here.

Oh Vickie, I am so sorry to hear that. I hope those antibiotics work quick and you feel 100% for your trip. Take it easy.

Sheryl -- I'm sorry Alexis is still having issues. The poor little princess. Good thoughts and prayers for her and Chris!

ISome of the recipes call for lite beer - is that right? Lite beer is :crazy2: but maybe in a soup it's the right thing to use :confused3

My general rule is to never cook with anything I wouldn't drink. I don't drink lite beer, so I wouldn't cook with it. I usually use Sam Adams Boston Lager when I make cheddar beer soup. I haven't had the chance to look for my recipe. I will do that tomorrow.

Nancy -- I hope Kady is feeling better.

Dinner with my parents and Becky today was grilled swordfish, guacamole, a baked chile pepper dish, yellow rice and refried beans. It was GOOD!

Oh, and Maria, post pictures! Becky doesn't compare her pictures to others. She likes seeing what everyone else is cooking. Becky has thought about not posting pictures because no one else posts photos regularly, and I know none of us want that!

Becky We love your pictures!

Maria I would love to see your pictures too

Anyone else have pictures? I never have my camera nearby.:confused3

Laura - Yep that's what my hairdresser charges. I've been going to her since I was 16, that may have something to do with it.;)

Becky - PLEASE don't stop posting pics!!!! I LOVE seeing your masterpieces!!!!

:cheer2: My Saints are now 4-0 and my Tigers are 5-0!!!!

Well the front yard is ready for Halloween & Thanksgiving, it looks really cute.

The buffalo was delicious, I won't complain that Greg bought so much. We cooked 2 filets & a sirloin....Greg will take the leftovers for lunch tomorrow.
I did think about taking pictures but it was on my dark blue plates & it looked ugly.

Becky never stop posting!!!!

Kat, did you rest today?

This cracked me up...:rotfl:
