The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

I hope all you east coast ladies are not getting to hammered by the remnants of Ida.

Lots of rain and wind here right now. The weatherman said my area of the state will see 1 to 4 MORE inches of rain before this is over with the coast getting 4 to 6 more.

I think my computer at work is getting better. At least I now have disc space or should I say had when I left work tonight. Those computer guys get a lot of money for not doing much. I could create more disc space but I want to know why my computer is storing soo much crap. I just get a blank stare. :confused3

I figured out how to fix my computer problem at work. I think I told you all about the issue with Windows Office. Well last week I had asked the IT guy if I could convert my Access databases to Excel and back to the newer version of Access and he didn't know. Told me to ask someone else but to do it very nicely because they were really busy  So yesterday I sat down and figured it out, took me all of 15 minutes. :rolleyes1 I don't know why I didn't think of it before and only thought of it this time because someone in another office said something about converting between two programs.

Why it took me, a person who has no formal training in computers, to figure this out I do not know.

Dinner was really good although I switched the biscuits to grits and we are out of regular onions  How that happened I do not know. I ended up using spring onions.

I hope all you east coast ladies are not getting to hammered by the remnants of Ida.

Ann - congrats to your son for spelling his last name. Ours is short so that wasn't a problem for my two.

Wendie - sounds like a fun shopping trip. My budget would be in serious trouble if we lived anywhere near an LLBean. I understand the growing pains. I remember is Matt's sophomore year, they had to change out his band uniform 3 times in two months. I was never so thankful for school provided uniforms as I was that year!!

Becky - as usual, your pics look yummy. Tell me, what are the green dots in the mushroom soup?

Okay - I'm gonna find you guys on facebook and send friend requests. I wanna see these!!

I hope I didn't come off harsh in my post earlier, I'm just concerned because you work so hard, are so busy and stressed that it worries me. for all you have going on right now. Safe travels and I hope you have a good time with your friends.

Wow that's alot, Good luck with your recovery and upcoming surgery. I hope your son gets better soon. May I ask, what is a pellet stove?

Nancy - that sounds like a Paula Deen recipe with all that butter!! I hope ya'll have fun a the concert tonight.

It's like a wood stove but it burns wood "pellets" so it's not messy like a wood stove can be. You can also control how much heat it puts out (unlike a wood stove) and it runs with a thermostat! We love it.

Well, my son has H1N1. My doc didn't even test him- he said the lab was all backed up and even if Jack's test came back negative he wouldn't believe it. So Here I am- trying to take care of him while I don't have a good leg to stand on!

Hey friends,

Nancy--WOW that IS a lot of butter, Buddy must have loved it, lol. Anxious to hear how the concert went, I'm sure Kady had a blast!!

Laura--We travel all the time and Ross loves it, so the 2hrs didn't phase him, plus he knows that if he wants name brand we have no choice but to travel to Portland, there is only a JCPennys where we live. (He also knew that we would go into more stores then just Aeropostle etc while there...ie/gamestop, lol)
Glad you go the skates sharpened on a nice day!

Becky--The pics were as always delish looking, but the green veggies was m favorite one, just beautiful.

Glynis--Sounds like a nice evening planned with your dad and Katie. Happy to hear that she got the schedule fixed!!:)

Sheryl--That is crazy how much homework Miss A has!! I'm glad she took a break for some fresh air. I agree with Laura and would track the time it is taking to do.

Lorelie--Hope Ds is feeling better soon. Sounds like you have a lot on your plate, but I'm sure it will all be worth it in the end.

Maria--Awww what a fun day you had with mom!

Lauren--How are the houseplans going?

Gretchen--I can just imagine how much Hailey would love that trampoline!!! Cute story on the therapist!! Ummm, thanks for the offer of Patrick, but I too will pass, ;)

Janice--Glad your work computer issues are on the mend! Thanks so much for taking charge of our Christmas list!!

There I think I got just about every one and I made it on 2 days in a row, lol!!
I had some more issues with my (?)bf again today....ugh this friendship is very short lived...I'm just stunned at how some people can be so damn self centered.
Went and visited with my gram today. She is just a hoot. I also had her plan of care meeting at the nursing home. Did some misc errands and due to bf, ended up with my whole day flip flopped so never made it to the gym.

Supper tonight was broiled chicken with sweet baby rays, honey/brwn sugar glazed carrots and parm couscous.

Hope everyone has a nice night!!

I tell my son and DIL all the time that if they ever divorce, I keep her. He's on his own
:lmao:

Coming soon to a mailbox near you. ;)

Can't wait! Thanks again, Janice, for taking charge of this! And Ann, you are way more organized than I am. At this point, though, I don't take the kids for formal shots. I get much better pictures with my camera.

IMy doc didn't even test him- he said the lab was all backed up and even if Jack's test came back negative he wouldn't believe it.

They haven't been testing the kids here either. They said even if the test says negative, it is probably positive. I hope Jack gets better quickly. For most kids here, it has been a 48 hour fever but then the cough lasts a couple weeks.

I had some more issues with my (?)bf again today....ugh this friendship is very short lived.

I'm sorry you're having issues with your friend. Maybe it is time to take a break. I am glad you had a good time with your gram.

I'm feeling really horrible so if I'm not around that's why.

Oh Kathy, I'm sorry you're feeling lousy. I hope you kick this thing soon.

Did I mention that I bought myself a early christmas present? I bought a GPS it was $100.00 off:cool1:

Yay! I love early Christmas presents. I bought the first Christmas present today. While I was at the skate shop, they had these adorable penguin skate soakers (that make a not-so-adorable noise  I think it is supposed to be penguins, but it's more like some demented horror flick laugh. :confused3 I am hoping Caili doesn't discover that feature.) so I bought them.

Hi Everyone Just wanted to say :wave2:

Welcome back!

Okay, I think I might just cry! Best Buy has an HP laptop, desktop, notebook and Geek Squad wireless set up service for $1199.

I need a new computer and there is no way I can afford that right now!

Oh sorry that was a Netbook and I think all of it comes with Windows 7.

I That therapist took Hailey one day when there wasn't a crowd and she came home and told Kenny and I that the boy running the thing "was just so sweet to Hailey. Every time the buzzer would go off, indicating the time was up, he would hit the button for her to go again. She got to go like four or five times and we only paid for once." It never occurred to this therapist that the attendant was hitting the button so she would stand there and talk to him longer.

He told us he wasn't following directions because..........he had short-term memory loss. :rolleyes1 We still killed him, but Kenny and I have had a good time laughing (by ourselves) at this lie which sets new heights in child lies.

Anyone want a 14 year old boy with smelly feet?

Your therapist is awesome! :goodvibes:rotfl2:

Passing on the boy as well :rotfl:

But sorry, no takers here. I kicked mine out ;). I tell my son and DIL all the time that if they ever divorce, I keep her. He's on his own :lmao: :rotfl:

:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Hi Everyone Just wanted to say :wave2: I'm back to work and it is going very well. My kids are so glad I'm back. The Drs. Told me to expect a year recovery and it was a year Halloween for my back fusion and a Mar. 9 of 2010 a year for my total hip replacement.

GLad to hear that things are going well!

He asked me last night how to spell Grammy and Pop-Pop's last name...:scared1: that one is 12 letters. It just might be 3 year old overload.

:goodvibes

Lots of rain and wind here right now. The weatherman said my area of the state will see 1 to 4 MORE inches of rain before this is over with the coast getting 4 to 6 more.

:scared1:

I'm feeling really horrible so if I'm not around that's why.

Oh no! What is wrong?

Well I'm home :yay:

I was able to check in and let Kady';s friend's Mom go in. It was crazy crazy crazy! Dan and Erica picked me up, I did not want to drive in that traffic nightmare. It took him over and hour to get in once he got tot eh exit XL Center exit.

Dinner was really good., We at in the city, eggplant pizza for Marisa and me, cheese pizza for the girls and some kind of spicy pasta for Beverly. Buddy is having kielbasa sandwiches ;)

I have been planning my mode of attack from that website. ;)

Mermaid I am so sorry your son is so sick right now. Try and stay well yourself. This virus is awful.

Kathy Sorry you are feeling sick as well rest up my friend.

I am off to jump in the shower and wash my hair. At least it will be mostly dry by afternoon. Yes I said afternoon. I really need to get a hair cut my hair is so thick and it is down almost to my waist.

I just got home and read through the thread and I'm overwhelmed with how to respond to everybody. I hope y'all don't mind a summary; I'll try to remember everyone but I'm about to head to bed and it's not yet 9.

East Coasters - I hope Ida keeps on moving out. She's a bizarre one, and it's not like you didn't get any rain this past spring or summer. :headache: The Weather Channel is having way too much fun with their "Atlantic Assault" thing but it sounds like it could be serious. Stay safe and dry!

Aimee - I hope you can find some time to rest up soon.

Kathy - I'm sorry to hear you're feeling terrible.

Glynis - Glad to hear about the schedule change.

Mermaid (Loreli?) - Sorry to hear your son has H1N1. I hope it's a mild case of it and doesn't morph into something more serious.

A bunch of stories made me laugh. :rotfl2: Thanks!

I'm about to head off to bed. I had a long day - 9 hours of work then hanging out with a friend and her dead car. I took her kids to Burger King while waiting for the tow truck to come. I said "get some napkins" and her 3rd grader comes back with a stack 6 inches high and asks "is this too many?" "Uh, yeah." :rotfl2: I took a few and shoved about 5+ inches back into the dispenser and made a quick exit. :lmao:

I have been planning my mode of attack from that website. ;)

I know all about that website. ;) I start looking for the ads on there the beginning of November.

The sale of that set is on until November 30th so once the Best Buy ad is up there I will decide what to do. I am going to look at all of my options between there and Dell and have a friend look it over to see if it's a good deal too.

I went whining to my DM and she said we could put it on the home equity loan. :rolleyes1 It will just mean really being good with my budget for a while.

Holy moly! :scared1: There has been 18 inches of rain in Ocean City, MD with more expected. There are reports of 20 foot high waves and almost all of the Chesapeake Bay counties are on flood warnings with the rest on watches.

Luckily we are not in any flood areas.

So I just wrote this loooooooooooooooong reply and somehow lost it! Happy Friday the 13th!

What I was saying is that is SCARY and I hope everyone in those areas is taking the proper precautions!

Day 2 of swine flu here- I was afraid I was succumbing to the beast but since I am up and moving I feel better and think it is just allergies!! Keep your fingers crossed for me!

WFD tonight?? I still have a ham steak but my "little piggy" has informed me that he now hates ham. I think I will serve it with a homemade mac and cheese- my friend Ashley is from Wisconsin and has an awesome recipe (the girl knows her cheese!) I think I will call her and get it later. Jack will eat that until her explodes!

It's cold here in Maine this morning- I haven't even dared look at the temperature yet. It was only 20 yesterday morning!!

~Loreli~:surfweb:

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Mid Atlantic States are getting hammered :sad2: Please stay safe, our weatherman said that that rain is going to continue.

Bethany- kids :rotfl:

Lorelie- hope that you do not get that flu, it is hard enough to care for a sick child without being ill yourself.

We have Kady this evening so I am going to think what she will want. I would love a grilled cheese and tomato soup but we'll see.

Lorelie, please watch yourself. Remember one of the things with swine flu is you can think you are on the mend and better for a day. Then it comes back in full force. Get Well wishes to you both.

Kathy, how are you feeling????

WFD- hot dogs with meat sauce, and steak fries w/ olive oil and rosemary.
Fries are frozen Alexia brand. I have to say they make some good products.
Dinner tonight was DH's choice over a steak or pork tenderloin?!:confused3

It seems that Patrick has decided to give his PE teacher a hard time. He isn't dressing for class and isn't following instructions. We received the referral slip last night and Kenny had to meet with the teacher this morning before they would let Patrick back in school. I'm sharing this with all of you because I knew you would get a kick out of his response to our questioning.

All we had to go on was the slip and it said he exhibited excessive refusal to follow instructions. Now understand that in our house, we don't question the truth of the teacher's statement, but we were hoping to get the particulars from Patrick before we killed him. He told us he wasn't following directions because..........he had short-term memory loss. :rolleyes1 We still killed him, but Kenny and I have had a good time laughing (by ourselves) at this lie which sets new heights in child lies.

Oh, my word! This is the same excuse Katie has been giving us about why her room isn't clean. When I tell her that I've told her over and over, she says she must have short term memory loss!

So sorry about your son! Is he on the Tamiflu? That seriously helped all of us a great deal!

Wish I was closer to help out some!

Another busy day, here. Timothy and I are off to bowling in a couple of hours. I love that they have free day care there for league bowlers! Then, a run to the grocery store. If I have time, I'll knock off a couple of Christmas presents, than back home to help Alan. He's going to start painting our basement, and might need some help. Of course, the best help would be to keep Timothy out of his hair, right?

Dinner tonight will be some kind of soup and sandwiches. Need to see what the weather's doing before deciding.

Tomorrow, DH and I are going to a dinner with our church group. It's a chili cook off! Should be good! I'm making a green salad to go with it. I'm thinking of doing one with some pear, apple and pomegranate in it. My mom used to make it when I was little and it was amazing! If I decide to do that, I'll make the dressing today, as it needs to sit overnight so the flavors can meld.

Sheryl - I'm so sorry that Alexis is having trouble with the homework. I would definitely track the time, and then go to the teacher with your concerns.

Kathy - What's wrong, my friend? I hope you start feeling better quickly!

Bethany - Sounds like you are one busy woman! Glad you are enjoying your new job and new city!

I know I missed people, but it wasn't on purpose. I'm praying for all of you!

Yes he got Tamiflu! He has Asthma so we have to be super careful... but so far so good.

Thanks for the though Glynis- my mil just called to see how he was but never ONCE said, "Do you need anything?" I need a loaf of bread.... That's her though- she's not gonna change.
