Mon 23rd June
I was up at 5.30 and the kids were awake at 6. They went to the food court and had muffins for breakfast then we went for the bus to AK. The queue for the bus was massive. It went all along the front of the hotel and round the corner. We waited 15 mins for the bus and the queue kept growing. It was the same at AK there were people everywhere. We are used to a few people at EE but this was a large crowd. It took us until 8,10 to get through the turnstiles. We headed straight for the safari as did a lot of people but luckily we lost a few on the way, some headed for Tough to be a bug and the ones with small children were getting autographs and photos with the characters. The waiting time at the safari was posted at 15mins but it only took us 5. This was the best safari we have ever been on. There were 2 ostriches in the middle of the road who wouldnt move and our driver said they had right of way so we sat and sat with them coming right up to the jeep and just looking at us. When we did get going again there were 2 giraffes right next to the road, they were so close if we had put our hands out we could have touched them. There was loads to see with animals on both sides of the road, you didnt know which way to look. The white rhinos were feeding at the roadside and even the lion was up and walking backwards and forwards on his rock. We had never seen the lion move before. Julie wished she had taken the camera with her.
We did the Pangani trail next which wasnt very busy but the animals were a lot more active here as well. We think they must have just been fed because a few of them were eating. Dinosaur next. Julie didnt want to go on so she got a drink and sat and waited for us. Gary persuaded me to go on but I thought it was a bit too rough and came off dizzy. It was getting very hot by now. No one wanted to do Lion King or Tarzan and even though it was hot Gary didnt fancy getting wet so early in the day. Took Julie to Primeral Whirl but the queue was 95 mins and 60 mins for the other ride. Julie didnt fancy waiting in the heat so we headed back to the bus.
We had a look around the shop in the hotel. Julie wanted to go swimming. Gary wanted to go to Walmart. Gary won. We found it no problem . I took $250 in travellers cheques with us but the bill came to $264 so I had to use the visa card. It must have been the cds for Gary and shirts we bought for Dave that took us over budget it couldnt possibly be the clothes Julie and me had bought.
We were all a bit hungry so we decided to try the burgers and fries in Walmart. They were lovely and Julie voted the fries the best she had ever had. I had to explain to the server how to cash a travellers check though I think he was just training.
Got back in the car and went to the hotel. I commented on how easy the driving was and how much I was enjoying driving. I should of kept quiet. I pulled into the AS Sport car park and missed the brake and hit the car in the bay in front of me. It was quite a loud bang but it sounded a lot worse than it was. Fortunately there was no damage to either car probably because I was going slow. Gary said it was because I was getting cocky with my driving.
Had a sleep for an hour while Julie read Harry Potter then we went to the pool. I sat with a magazine whilst the kids were swimming. We went back to room for quick wash and change then out for the bus to MGM. Tonight we were going to see Fantasmic. We got there for 7. All the shows were finished but the rides were still open. We went on the great movie ride then went to see how long the queue was for R&RC. Gary was going to do single rider but the queue was 95 mins so it still would have taken a while to get on. We went to do Sounds Dangerous instead and walked straight in. It was empty most people were at the first showing of Fantasmic. We headed back to R&RC the queue was a lot shorter so Gary joined it whilst Julie and me sat on a bench with ice creams people watching. It was a really warm night not what we are used to in March. When Gary came back we headed to the Muppets another walk in. We all enjoy this show and pre show even though we have seen it many times. The time was now 9.55 so headed over to the theatre for Fantasmic . It was on at 10.30 . We walked so far in but then we hit massive queues. We all had to wait until they cleared the 9.00 show. After 5 mins they let us all in Gary was bothered in case there were no seats left because the queues were so big but he neednt have worried because the theatre was half empty. We got good seats and me and Julie agreed it was our favourite but we said that on Saturday about Spectro and Sunday about Reflections of Earth. We love them all as they are so different. We got back to the room at 11.30 and decided not to set our Mickey wake up call, we would sleep.
