Just bit the bullet and bought Virgin Flights - 0830 early flight - which is a first for us.

In 2024 we used David’s DVC Rentals (DVCrequest.com) to book a trip to Disney’s Hilton Head resort and found the process very straightforward and everything went without a hitch. You basically supply them with your dates, resort and preferred room type and they will match you with someone who has the points at the pre-set price (no negotiation or haggling needed).

Now I’m sure you can do it cheaper other ways but this was the safest option to go with a known company as it was our first time doing this sort of thing.

We have decided against going this year - we don't feel particularly safe travelling to the US right now. We'll re-visit our plans for 2027 and decide if we go back then.

That's a shame....... I hadn't really considered safety to be an issue - Ill treat the trip exactly as if I was visiting any other country in the world.

I think I'd feel safe in Orlando/Disney, I don't have a problem with that at all BUT I won't be going for the foreseeable future. We went for 3 weeks last August (as we have done pretty much every other year since 1988) and it just 'felt' different to me. America does not feel like the right place to be heading to right now and to be honest I think I'm relishing the idea of broadening my horizons a little in Europe and beyond. I can do a LOT of horizon broadening with the equivalent money and have plenty of change left. I think WDW has lost a lot of the 'magic' for me too. Maybe I'm just older and more jaded and see the huge Disney corporation for what it is. Who knows, maybe I'll feel different in around 5 years time, I like to believe that the world situation may have improved greatly by then but it's such an unknown right now.

As a side note, I got in the lift at the Poly one night and a lovely lady asked me where I was from, I said England and she said "well, I'd like to apologise for what my country has become, we are very very ashamed at who we are at the moment".

Did that last bit really happen? I have many US military friends, with varying political views, but I cannot imagine any of them saying this! Mind you, we could say the same to American visitors regarding Khan/Starmer too.

On the lives of my two kids in my profile picture yes, it happened and was worded pretty much exactly as I typed. I also have many US friends on the east and west coast (non military) and I can tell you, they are NOT happy bunnies right now.
