Day 13- 25th Dec/07
Xmas morning we have a nice breakfast and wish each other Merry Xmas (the kids look through the clothes they bought the day before ....this is their Xmas....as well as the holiday itself !).
Off to AK where DH and DS go straight to Everest and DW and DD go on Safari.
We agree to meet at the bridge going into Africa where surprise, surprise DH and DS find DW and DD having a bakery break (brownies, muffins and good cup of coffee).thankfully they have considered the boys and have ordered something for them as well.
We agree to go see the Lion King show (which is excellent as usual),We then wander over to Dinoland to ride the Primeval Whirl and the Triceratops Spin. Its a beautiful, warm, sunny day so we head back to the hotel for a swim and a dunk in the hot tub.
About 4pm we get ready for our first visit to Fort Wildereness where we are booked for dinner at the Trails End Buffet (each trip we like to try something different and new...this is the one for this year).
We park at the Fort parking lot and catch the bus to Settlement House. Many of the campsites (mostly RV"s and large trailers) are decorated to "the nines" with Xmas decorations and displays (some are actually quite elaborate). We walk around the petting zoo and see horses and Shetland Ponies,We do the obligatory inspection of the gift shop and check out the Lake and beach area ,then onto our reservation for dinner (it is very busy because the Hoop-De-Hoo show next door...is about to start).Dinner was great with lots to choose from including chicken,ribs,salmon,3 veg, pork, mash, sweet potatoes and stuffing.there were 2 soups to start ,a salad bar and a desert bar which DS and DW declared had the best Apple Cobbler they ever tasted.DD loved the fresh baked chocolate chip cookies that were soft and warm. Every table was given a boxed pumpkin pie to take a away for Xmas Day. We declined because none of us like pumpkin.
It was a lovely meal and service good. All you can eat for approximately $90 for 4.
Now that our stomachs are full its off to Wilderness Lodge (by boat) for a nosy around. The Fort Wilderness dock is very busy with 2 huge lines (one for MK and one for Wilderness Lodge and Contemporary). Our boat captain calls for extra boats as the lines are growing very quickly. Everyone is in a happy mood this Xmas day.
The contemporary looks nice lit up at night and we arrive at the Wilderness Lodge and have a good walk round the pool, the falls, the lobby etc.....a place to look at in the future perhaps !!
We are back on the boat to Fort Wilderness to pick up the car . DW states that this a really nice way to celebrate Xmas....No snow,No rain,no cooking,no cleaning......but we still get a few presents and the Florida sunshine.
