The wait is killing me! 2014 packages

I don't understand why the 499 day rule still applies when it used to be when they released the packages it was until December 31 ? Im really disappointed! I was hoping to book my vacation today! I have to wait like 2 more weeks for December!

They could have at least stated 2014 packages through X date. Then I wouldn't have wasted time trying to figure out what was wrong with the website.

OurBigTrip - So glad you persisted and finally got a CM who could help you. I had received a letter in the snail mail July 6 informing me that the room rates for 2014 had been established and I called right away to ask if I could now see if POFQ was accepting a AAA discount again this year. The CM I spoke with told me the same thing your first 2 attempts this morning told you. I called back a few minutes later to a different Disney reservation number I have and would you believe it - I reached the very same cast member !

I resigned myself to waiting until this morning when I feared the phone lines would be all tied up and was so glad to get right through to Welton, a wonderful CM, who understood exactly what I was asking for and took care of it for me.

Being that POFQ is such a small resort they typically have fewer & smaller discounts than any of the other Disney properties.

Kathy Z, thanks! It was your post saying that you got the AAA discount that encouraged me to keep trying.

I had called on Saturday (6 Jul) and booked the rooms at 2014 rates, so this morning was all about trying for the AAA discount!

Now I don't know which resort we are booking. We are hoping for a code to come out later.

But do I book a mod and maybe upgrade later?

Or book a deluxe and have the possibility of having to downgrade later?

I attempted to "Chat" with a cast member on the reservations site. He tried to tell me that I can only book packages 1 year in advance and that's why December dates are unavailable. He can't explain why August-Nov. are available if that is the case.

Edit: After further questioning he said that inventory hasn't been loaded yet, but should be "soon."

He speaketh rubbish I'm afraid. The online systems allows up to 499 days in advance, not one year. They'd probably have been better to have either held off for another 40 days before releasing anything, or just extended the booking window to cover up to 31 Dec. The way they've done it, they just get lots of annoyed people.

I figured as much. In past years, I've been able to price the ENTIRE next year when rates became available. I'm hoping it's just a glitch in the system. If not, I'll be waiting a few weeks to price my vacation.

I've just compared a few sample rack rate dates this year vs. next year for Port Orleans (my subject area!). While the Standard room types actually don't seem to have changed at all, some other types (e.g. River View) have rocketed - e.g. in peak July, River View goes up from $254 to $279, and Pool View from $248 to $273, that's $25 more expensive, or about a 10% increase.

Garden view at POFQ for October went up only $7 per night from $186 to $193, not bad I guess. However rates for POFQ are slightly higher than POR, at least for October. The garden view at POFQ is $3 more per night than POR.

only can go through the 3rd week of November. guess I will have to wait or just keep checking. we go in Dec '14, the sooner it is planned and ressied, the sooner I start my payments(then again, I may just start now and dump into our xmas saving acct)

SO TRUE! we got all excited for today(even though I knew we were 499+ days away) had a feeling we would still have to wait oh well, playing with the rates on other peak times and highest rates just to get an idea. I will start payments to our savings this week and hope to have a chunk to put down when the dates open up for us,....come on Dec "14 rates!

I checked POP for February just being curious.. One weekend it's 180.00 a night and one weekend its $150.00 a night... Just seems like a lot for POP to me. I have a feeling this will be our last trip for a while.

From my calculations, the 2014 room price came out to be about 10% more expensive than the 2013 prices. That is for BC GV in August.

I just need to get off my lazy (and not feeling well at ALL today) butt and change the trip. Part of me doesn't want to because it makes it "final" that this years trip won't happen... but then at least I would have a trip to look forward to next year (and 2015).

Rate did increase compared to what I was pricing for the same time THIS year, but not by too much. Less then I had expected honestly.

I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. AKL Savanna went up $9/night for weekdays, but they did an a weekend premium charge. Not a bad increase though, and I got a 15% AAA discount, so I'm good for now.

Just waiting for a decision on the military discount.

On the third try today, I got a 15% AAA discount for AKL Savanna view 29 Jul - 8 Aug 2014 (3 rooms).

Just booked POP for the Princess Half, and it was $175/night (Feb 21-24)! That's closer to what is expect to pay for POR, where I'd honestly much rather be, but didn't get to check rates there. Afraid to look....
