The Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Owners & Lovers Group - 3.0

Thoughts requested from the VGC regulars…should I bother?

We have a trip planned for next November. Dates are set, and unfortunately it’s Dapper Days weekend. And I’m seeing all sorts of posts about the crappy state of the villas, plus refurb rumors.

I was going to try for a DVC room on points when the time came, for the free parking and the lack of having to pay the exorbitant cash rates for decent rooms. And VGC was our first choice due to the lack of extra fees.

With it being so hard to get villas at the 7mo mark anyway, should I bother with the whole stalk and walk thing? Should I just try for one of the new villas at the DLH instead? Or should I just make a reservation at Park Vue as a backup, see what cash room discounts show up (if any) for that time period?

I can book a WDW vacation in my sleep, but I’m at a loss for where to stay at DL.

I think a wait-list will come through if you can't book VGC at 7 months. Stalk the website, too, and it might take a few reservations, but it's easy to have MS combine it into one. The rooms aren't as bad as we say. We pay a premium for the room and we expect it to be a certain level. It's still better than pretty much anything else in the area. If you are used to DVC, you won't be happy with Park Vue.

The new Villas at Disneyland hotel is a good idea as a backup plan. The TOT is annoying, but sometimes the point chart is a lot less than VGC (not always). If you factor in the free parking, that helps reduce the resentment towards the TOT.

I own both resorts and enjoy both. If I were in your situation and I couldn't get VGC, I would book VDH and wait-list VGC. I wouldn't stalk the website because I like both hotels. If you are open to a split stay, you could always go that route.

There is no condition VGC could be in that would make me pay cash at Park Vue vs my points at VGC. We as owners are mad about the refurb but it’s not a bad place to stay by any means.

I think the condition of VGC is overblown and it's being used to make this guy's video viral. Could it use an update? Sure. Is it as bad as people on social media make it out to be? Definitely not.

We just stayed and was content with the condition and I am very picky. Just not happy that we paid for a refurb we didn’t get. I actually had a new shower head in my room.
