The Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Owners & Lovers Group - 3.0

I hope they don't get rid of the drip coffee makers. It seems like a lot of folks like the Keurig's so if they elect to change out the drip coffee makers I hope they replace them with the dual type coffee makers (that have both options).

I was actually surprised during the refurbishment they didn't replace the Mr. Coffee machines with the dual Keurig [choice of making a pot or just a cup]. If they do replace the machines, I think that's what they will go with.

We spent 2 nights in a 2BR at VGC last week, just sharing my thoughts. Love the new carpets, my granddaughters enjoyed finding and counting the hidden Mickeys and they love the "secret beds" (murphy beds). Our shower heads were fine, but it would be nice to have the handheld ones. I believe I read that kitchen appliances are new...ours looked new but the icemaker in the freezer did not work. Given that there were ice cube trays in the freezer and the bellman offered (without being asked) to fill our ice bucket, it seems they're aware that the icemaker doesn't work. Worst thing were the dresser drawers--all misaligned and off track, very difficult to use. We had no issue with sticky surfaces. Our trash was never emptied and if they came for the daily "security check" we never noticed.
I was only on the lookout for these details because of what I'd read here. We're not VGC owners (OKW class of '97); we're DL locals and I stalk the site for VGC availability. Used to be much easier!

Interesting VGC and VDH has always been top notch for housekeeping. I hope it was just off week

We’ve never had VGC take out trash on a trip…. we haven’t event gotten full house cleaning really on our 4th day…. but those poor people seem so overworked and will get us anything we ask for that we don’t worry about it. I still leave a $20 per room tip.

Interesting. TBH since I bought DVC I have only been able to stay at VGC once and only for one night. I cant recall anything about the trash. At VDH I have stayed several times since becoming DVC and they always picked up the trash as far as I can remember

If they don't come get our trash, where should we take it? First night, we will probably eat pizza in our room and if we don't eat it all, it will be in the trash stinking the place up. I want to make sure I know where to take it because I'm not going to be the person who sets it in the hallway.

At BRV, they took our trash every day. We usually tied it up and set it by the door (inside) if it was full. But they would still take out half empty trash from the room as well.

Just call and ask for it to be picked up.

I don't recall any daily trash collection at VGC in our past few visits, either. They also tell us to keep the "Do Not Disturb" hang tag off the door if we call for anything from housekeeping or maintenance. I don't know if they have different procedures for VGC. For a minute I thought the trash emptying was just a WDW thing, but we recently stayed at Vero Beach and they did the daily trash collection--though they did it in stealth mode (ie while we were out of the room :) ).

There is a trash room on the first floor near where the DVC laundry room is.

Daily trash pickup we just got at Aulani as well.

And it's okay to go in there? I'm a rule follower and don't want to get in trouble.
The housekeeping rules have become a bit confusing since DVC is now emptying trash daily during room checks and providing free towels upon request.

Before room checks and free towels, the expected housekeeping schedule for a stay under seven nights was trash and towel service on your fourth day. You had no CMs coming in your room doing anything, including trash, until the fourth day. If your stay was eight nights or longer, you got a full service cleaning on the fourth day, and then trash and towel service on the eighth day.

The trash room by the elevator at VGC isn't a CM restricted area. It's a self service trash area for DVC. It was expected that members empty their own trash before the room checks since housekeeping was limited because it's a timeshare. Most of the villas should have their own trash rooms. Buildings like Big Pine Key at GF do not have a trash room since they were previously cash hotel rooms so there are trash and towel bins on each floor in the hallway.

Thank you for reiterating this. We stayed 8 nights last November and I was expecting a full clean on day 4, which we did not get. I called down to housekeeping and they told me I was incorrect. I went down to concierge, and they also told me that I was incorrect, even when I showed them that this is what it said on-line. They said they could make arrange a cleaning if I needed one, which I declined because I thought I must have read the rules wrong and didn't want anything that I wasn't entitled to.

There is also signs in the room that say it.

Thanks all, that makes me feel better about using it. My husband said he's pretty sure he put stuff in their last summer when we stayed there too.

If half way through the trip, we ask for fresh towels, will they take our old ones as well or will we just have double the towels at that point?

We just usually keep ours and put them in a corner in the bathroom or closet if it’s tiled. If they have their cart with them when they bring towels you can give them, if they don’t have it I wouldn’t.
