Because the goal is not to sin in the first place, but sin happens.
don't worry JoeEpcotRocks. The Holy Father in Rome loves you. And JPII looks down from Heaven and smiles on you.![]()
Too bad the Vatican doesn't have understanding. Meekness is submitting to the Word of God, not changing it.
For our benefit (and the world's benefit).
The same reason we give our own children behavior guidelines, and we love them whether they follow them or not -- just like God does.
That doesn't seem to be what Joe is saying, but I may still not be understanding him correctly.
Our goal is not to sin as well, and the listing of things that are sinful is designed to help us know how to stay way from those behaviors.
The Catholic Church isn't changing the word of God. Peter, the disciple, was the first Bishop of Rome (Pope).
Do you have some sort of direct line to God to know that for 1500 years until the Reformation the Catholics were completely wrong?
Well, I am not answering for Joe, but I do believe that all sin can be forgiven through grace, but we (and by we, I mean those who believe) should try our best not to sin in the first place. And if we are truly believers we move away from sin as Jesus (the spirit) lives within us. But still, sin happens. I don't think I helped.![]()
I follow the Bible. I have no interest in religion or denominations.
My biggest concern is when people proclaim from the pulpit anything contrary to what Jesus did on the cross re salvation and our direct access to God.
For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

That's a part of our Creed-and I don't see how it reduces the defining aspect of Jesus's death on the cross and it's relation to salvation. I've also never been told that I don't have direct access to God.![]()
I respect you for going it alone, I don't think I could do that. I like the community aspect of belonging to a Church. I feel that I can do more to serve others as part of a group than alone.
I guess were close in agreement.Sorry, I get my dander up so much re the Vatican.
Actually I do belong to a church, but it's non-denominational.
Doesn't anyone it just a little "amazing" that an individual can do this? I just shake my head at the blind following ...
Kathee, yup an atheist, thank gawd, lol
Do you feel getting your dander up is appropriate, and how God wants you to deal with other Christians?Sorry, I get my dander up so much re the Vatican.
You poor Catholics...no more polluting for you.And if you don't buy Girl Scout cookies, is that a social injustice?
Just kidding. I do find this quite interesting after all this time the list got updated.
I haven't read the thread (just the OP), but I think this is really stupid. Seriously...people have to be told that pedophilia is a "deadly" sin??? And that pollution is on the same level??? Cuckoo!!!
What do you mean by I wasn't paying attention?I used the term audience in quotes for those who are not familiar with the players in a Catholic mass.
