The Vanishing at Cecil Hotel

How very sad. Why didn’t her family make it known about her past problems with not taking her meds and having hallucinations ,at first?

And the former manager, she was dodgy.

I didn’t watch the Netflix program but just saw her story as part of a different show the other day. Creepy.

My significant other loves true crime. This stuff puts me to sleep. How well is it done?

I haven't watched this but am familiar with the story. What I really disliked about everything I've read was the gross exploitative nature of taking a severe
mental illness
story and turning it into some kind of
supernatural occurrence
I agree, and I do think her death was a consequence of that... But there are a ton of weird coincidences.

What you’re describing is kind of how I felt about Tiger King. So many sad stories in that series, those people were used and exploited with a humorous spin.

The tape of the elevator was doctored. No way she clocked up to the water tower, took off her clothes, opened it up and fell in. And closed it???? None of it makes sense. I watched the ghost adventures episode of it

I don’t usually like the Ghost Adventure guys. Have they mellowed at all?

My daughter is watching this and I thought she said that the only way to get on the roof was with a key that only Maintenance people had? Also, the people who stayed there in 2013 for $85.00 a night...what were they thinking....a hotel for $85.00 a night in LA? It isn't like they couldn't have googled this hotel and it's reviews to check it out. No way would I stay here even it was for free! My daughter is only up to episode 2. I might have to watch this 4 part series this weekend. I usually don't like this type of show so we will see. I don't remember reading about any of this stuff when this girl went missing so I am going to google it.

I just watched the Cecil Hotel documentary. Apparently the hatch was open when the maintenance guy found her. They think she climbed up the fire escape. Really sad.

But it a heavy door to open. I don’t think she did it on her own

Anyone watching? The Elisa Lam mystery has always interesting to me and the way Netflix weaves the story of the hotel in too is captivating. I can’t stop watching.
We are on episode 3. Very interesting. Feel bad for people who think they are booking a room in a nice downtown hotel, only to be a few floors in the Cecil.

Won't watch. I believe she was murdered. Elevator tape missing time. Her body was so bad decompostion for a proper autopsy. They used her mental illness as a scapegoat. With hearing Chris Watts disposing his daughters in the oil tank, it immediately brought me back to Elisa Lam's case.

I did not know about this Netflix series, but I very familiar with the original story. From the get-go a lot of YouTube Creepy Pasta folk were intent to frame this as being a supernatural story, with no more evidence than the same footage everyone else in the media had. I just read that Ghost Bro Zak Bagans believes she was "affected by a dark, unseen force". Shut up, Zak Bagans.
