The Vances take on the World
Cast: Me, Brenda, doesnt like to give out her age, Disneynut, has to go to Disney every year and always has fun, screams in excitement when she goes through the Walt Disney World arches, cries at Wishes and cries when its time to leave.
But is so excited!
DH: Larry, 34 (I dont care who knows his age, he wont be reading this, haha). Dh is the one that always says, No, I dont want to go to Disney and I cant believe you are going to go again! But still loves me anyway.
DS: Tyler, 15, the teenager of the group that has been giving me the I cant believe I have to hang out with my parents crap. Stubborn and loves to give me the old
DD: Meghann, 9 almost 10 but thinks shes 18. Meghann is just like me! Loves Disney, loves spending time with her mom but when it comes to planning adrs she picks the ones that have the best desserts.
DS: Justin, 9, almost 10 but acts likes his father...I mean exactly. Down to the I cant believe you are going to Disney again! stuff. Grumbles about money and spending it....see, just like his father.
Pre-trip
It all started when Meghann and I went on our mother/daughter trip. It was our first time staying onsite and during free dining. Could it get any better? We didnt even get home and I was ready to book our trip for next year! Hmmm, but I want dh to go, how do I get him there? Is it another Richard Petty Driving Experience
(he did the ride a long last time-2003)? Do I have to bribe him? Aha! I know, Ill book it during our anniversary! August 31, 2006. That way if he wants to be with me, hell have to go...heee heee, Im so sneaky.
So, I casually mention to Larry, you know its been a long time since we went on our last big family trip. I get complete silence and then...What Disney again? I said, well...yes, I think it would be great and we would have a lot of fun. All the kids are tall enough to go on every ride so nobody would be left out and and and.......I kept going and going until finally he says, Ok, but a short trip ok. Yes! Got him hooked. So, call my AAA agent and she gets me all set up for staying at Port Orleans Riverside (once you stay onsite, I dont ever want to stay offsite again!). Booked 7 day hoppers and the dining plan. My goal was to get everything paid for and have dh not worry about having to spend money on this restaurant or that restaurant and hed actually enjoy himself.
So, the next thing Im doing is looking for airfare
and well, in order to fly rather cheaply we would have to extend our vacation, darn it! Well, what can you do? I extended it! Booked our flight and promised the kids that we would stay offsite for a couple days at their favorite place on earth: The Liki Tiki. They loved this place the last time we went! So, we would fly down on a Friday, check into the Liki Tiki, go to SeaWorld the next day and then on Sunday check into POR (which by the way we have 7 days at Disney...so much for a short trip). Well...what happens next? Allegiant Air isnt going to fly out on that Friday, they are flying out on Thursday...so...what to do??? I guess we need to add another day on. I call the Liki Tiki, but their prices for one more day were outrageous so I used Hotwire and got the Best Western Lake Buena Vista for that one night. But then we have one whole day of nothing to do. I question the kids...what do you guys want to do that day? They all decided on Islands of Adventure. Ok, so theres another $300 in ticket costs, plus another $75 for a hotel.
I decide to make this as magical as possible
(especially for dh because hes just not a believer like I am and thinks magic is David Copperfield, I mean geesh, give me a break.). I booked the Dining with Shamu package at SeaWorld, purchased a huge gift box full of stuff from Feralpeg, booked the Wishes Cruise as our anniversary present, used mypoints.com for gas cards, Macaroni Grill cards, heard that Bubba Gump was coming to Universal Studios area so planned on having lunch there...paid for our SeaWorld tickets, and purchased express passes for IOA for that day we go (still need to get those tickets though). Got matching t-shirts from disneyshopping (curious to see what dh does about that!).
Then I decide, maybe we should have two rooms instead of one at POR. So we book two rooms at Pop. Then I changed my mind. Booked a cabin at Fort Wilderness. And then FREE DINING came out!! Everything with Disney is paid for so lets upgrade to The Contemporary! Im so excited! We got adrs all set (again...you know how it is, I change my mind way too much) and Im thinking, woohoo, we are good to go and I guess its time to lay everything out for dh. So, I say to dh, Well, I got some great news!! Disney came out with the free dining package for the time we are going! So, we are going to save about $1000! He says, we are actually going to go to Disney and save money? And then I said, Well, here is the thing...the airline that we got really cheap tickets from changed our flight so we will be gone from August 24 and come back on September 3. But...just about everything is paid for...Disney, food, tickets to disney and seaworld, restaurant gift cards are purchased a couple of gas cards, but we do need to pay for the Liki Tiki and IOA and our rental car. And then I just kind of got really quiet, waiting for him to get mad and he said, Cool. I said, thats it? Cool? He says, we are going on a family vacation that is well below the budget of our last vacation, plus we are going to celebrate our anniversary in a place that you love and I can see its going to make you happy, so yes, its cool. I just love that man!
Finally, I let my breath out (didnt want to pass out on him you know). And I was so excited, until he said, Ok, show me what you got planned. Hes never wanted to know what I got planned before he always goes with the flow. So, first I show him where we are staying. I dont want to stay there he says. Im like, well, where do you want to stay? and then he wants to know what the choices are. Ok, so here we go we go through all of the hotels and guess which one he likes?? Port Orleans Riverside. The one I booked originally...so back on the phone to my AAA agent (I did send her a Minnie Mouse gift gram
from disney shopping for all the emails I sent to her and she did it happily) and get the resort switched back to the original. Then he wants to know about the adrs. And the only one that he didnt want to do is Rose and Crown. He wants to switch it to Coral Reef. So, thank goodness no problem there.
So, here we are 63 days to go
and just about everything is paid for, little things purchased and we only have like $600 due for tickets, room and car rental...not too bad. Thank goodness for the disboards....
for people just like me!!
