The Vance’s take on the World

Cast: Me, Brenda, doesn’t like to give out her age, Disneynut, has to go to Disney every year and always has fun, screams in excitement when she goes through the Walt Disney World arches, cries at Wishes and cries when its time to leave. But is so excited! :hyper:
DH: Larry, 34 (I don’t care who knows his age, he won’t be reading this, haha). Dh is the one that always says, “No, I don’t want to go to Disney and I can’t believe you are going to go again!” But still loves me anyway.
DS: Tyler, 15, the teenager of the group that has been giving me the “I can’t believe I have to hang out with my parents” crap. Stubborn and loves to give me the old
DD: Meghann, 9 almost 10 but thinks she’s 18. Meghann is just like me! Loves Disney, loves spending time with her mom but when it comes to planning adr’s she picks the ones that have the best desserts. :mickeybar
DS: Justin, 9, almost 10 but acts likes his father...I mean exactly. Down to the “I can’t believe you are going to Disney again!” stuff. Grumbles about money and spending it....see, just like his father. :stitch2:

Pre-trip

It all started when Meghann and I went on our mother/daughter trip. It was our first time staying onsite and during free dining. Could it get any better? We didn’t even get home and I was ready to book our trip for next year! Hmmm, but I want dh to go, how do I get him there? Is it another Richard Petty Driving Experience :drive: (he did the ride a long last time-2003)? Do I have to bribe him? Aha! I know, I’ll book it during our anniversary! August 31, 2006. That way if he wants to be with me, he’ll have to go...heee heee, I’m so sneaky. :upsidedow

So, I casually mention to Larry, you know its been a long time since we went on our last big family trip. I get complete silence and then...”What Disney again?” I said, well...yes, I think it would be great and we would have a lot of fun. All the kids are tall enough to go on every ride so nobody would be left out and and and.......I kept going and going until finally he says, “Ok, but a short trip ok.” Yes! Got him hooked. So, call my AAA agent and she gets me all set up for staying at Port Orleans Riverside (once you stay onsite, I don’t ever want to stay offsite again!). Booked 7 day hoppers and the dining plan. My goal was to get everything paid for and have dh not worry about having to spend money on this restaurant or that restaurant and he’d actually enjoy himself.

So, the next thing I’m doing is looking for airfare :surfweb: and well, in order to fly rather cheaply we would have to extend our vacation, darn it! Well, what can you do? I extended it! Booked our flight and promised the kids that we would stay offsite for a couple days at their favorite place on earth: The Liki Tiki. They loved this place the last time we went! So, we would fly down on a Friday, check into the Liki Tiki, go to SeaWorld the next day and then on Sunday check into POR (which by the way we have 7 days at Disney...so much for a short trip). Well...what happens next? Allegiant Air isn’t going to fly out on that Friday, they are flying out on Thursday...so...what to do??? I guess we need to add another day on. I call the Liki Tiki, but their prices for one more day were outrageous so I used Hotwire and got the Best Western Lake Buena Vista for that one night. But then we have one whole day of nothing to do. I question the kids...what do you guys want to do that day? They all decided on Islands of Adventure. Ok, so there’s another $300 in ticket costs, plus another $75 for a hotel.

I decide to make this as magical as possible :wizard: (especially for dh because he’s just not a believer like I am and thinks magic is David Copperfield, I mean geesh, give me a break.). I booked the Dining with Shamu package at SeaWorld, purchased a huge gift box full of stuff from Feralpeg, booked the Wishes Cruise as our anniversary present, used mypoints.com for gas cards, Macaroni Grill cards, heard that Bubba Gump was coming to Universal Studios area so planned on having lunch there...paid for our SeaWorld tickets, and purchased express passes for IOA for that day we go (still need to get those tickets though). Got matching t-shirts from disneyshopping (curious to see what dh does about that!).

Then I decide, maybe we should have two rooms instead of one at POR. So we book two rooms at Pop. Then I changed my mind. Booked a cabin at Fort Wilderness. And then FREE DINING came out!! Everything with Disney is paid for so lets upgrade to The Contemporary! I’m so excited! We got adr’s all set (again...you know how it is, I change my mind way too much) and I’m thinking, woohoo, we are good to go and I guess its time to lay everything out for dh. So, I say to dh, “Well, I got some great news!! Disney came out with the free dining package for the time we are going! So, we are going to save about $1000!” He says, “we are actually going to go to Disney and save money?” And then I said, “Well, here is the thing...the airline that we got really cheap tickets from changed our flight so we will be gone from August 24 and come back on September 3. But...just about everything is paid for...Disney, food, tickets to disney and seaworld, restaurant gift cards are purchased a couple of gas cards, but we do need to pay for the Liki Tiki and IOA and our rental car.” And then I just kind of got really quiet, waiting for him to get mad and he said, “Cool.” I said, “that’s it? Cool?” He says, “we are going on a family vacation that is well below the budget of our last vacation, plus we are going to celebrate our anniversary in a place that you love and I can see its going to make you happy, so yes, its cool.” I just love that man! :lovestruc

Finally, I let my breath out (didn’t want to pass out on him you know). And I was so excited, until he said, “Ok, show me what you got planned.” He’s never wanted to know what I got planned before he always goes with the flow. So, first I show him where we are staying. “I don’t want to stay there” he says. I’m like, “well, where do you want to stay?” and then he wants to know what the choices are. Ok, so here we go we go through all of the hotels and guess which one he likes?? Port Orleans Riverside. The one I booked originally...so back on the phone to my AAA agent (I did send her a Minnie Mouse gift gram ::MinnieMo from disney shopping for all the emails I sent to her and she did it happily) and get the resort switched back to the original. Then he wants to know about the adr’s. And the only one that he didn’t want to do is Rose and Crown. He wants to switch it to Coral Reef. So, thank goodness no problem there.

So, here we are 63 days to go :hourglass and just about everything is paid for, little things purchased and we only have like $600 due for tickets, room and car rental...not too bad. Thank goodness for the disboards.... :wizard: for people just like me!!

:bounce: So fess up! What is your secret to getting your man to not only go along with your plans but to actually want to HEAR about them!!! :rotfl:

I am also looking forward to reading your TR when you return!

Sounds like it's going to be a great vacation. Interestingly enough, our anniversary is the same date as yours, August 31st. We'll be married 10 years this year and we're heading down just a week or so later (9/9) with our boys for a free dining trip too. Of course, I plan on mentioning that it's an anniversary trip. We were there for ds8's birthday in February and he got some great surprises. Even though we are on the dining plan, I'm hoping for a bit of magic anyway.

Have a great trip.

It will be our 15th anniversary when we go down:) happy anniversary to you two! Have fun!

I'm planning like you too. My anniversary is in August and we will be married 25 yrs. We are suppose to be going to Alaska, but there is no way, I am freezing on my vacation, so WDW it is next April. I called ME today to book and she actually laughed at me and told me to call back in March.

lol, he has no clue of how many changes have been made. I'm the trip planner and that's usually the way it is. He just goes with the flow. I think one thing he wanted to know is exactly what I got booked for our anniversary:)
I will post a trip report, that's the reason I take my laptop with me to remember what we did that day!

Oh and btw, I am so jealous of your pic with John Taylor....yummy!

Wow i think this is going to be a great trip, can't wait to hear all about it when you get back

Ok, so now we are at 2 days before we go...All of my kids have gone through high fevers and coughs this summer and I thought we were clear, woohoo! But....then I came down with it. I've got a ton of laundry to do and I've got to finish packing. My dh is actually getting excited (he's only asked me like 5 times, what time we are leaving on Thursday).
So...2 days to go, lots of laundry to do, stock up on cough drops, and then pack!!! Please let me get over this cough!!!

That is so sweet of your husband to agree with everything to make you happy for your anniversary. Congrats!

Cannot wait to hear your whole TR.
