The Upcoming College Football Season

BOILER UP! I am a Purdue graduate living in Atlanta.
Just read a Sports Illustrated article that has Purdue with the toughest Division I schedule this year. If they end up playing our Boilers have a steep road ahead of them. It should be fun to watch! 🤞🏻

Dug up this thread to say we got some info from LSU.

There will be 10 conference only games. I guess you can't get the virus from the SEC? lol
Tickets will be completely digital and all concessions cashless.

Season ticket holders have 3 options:

Full refund
Keep tickets and wait for capacity info
Put 2020 funds toward 2021 season

We will take the full refund and let the seats go. Tired of dealing with it.

P.S. I still don't see games happening, but they have 2 months until the first one, so who knows?

I'm sure LSU isn't worried, but an SEC-only schedule is a nightmare for many teams! That's part of the fun of the SEC, tho. They are so used to that high level of competition that every once in a while one of the lowly teams knocks off one of the big guys.

Also, the season is not that far off. I don't know about SEC, but UCF's first game is September 4.

It's against UNC, which is out of conference, so maybe that game won't happen, but the following week is another non-conference conference game against FIU, and then Georgia Tech on Sept 18.

Our first actual conference game is East Carolina on Sept 24.

I think the SEC's schedule starts on September 26th.

DD’s school is in the ACC. They just announced yesterday that the ACC will have an 11 game schedule (10 in conference games plus 1 out of conference game). No information was given on fan attendance.

DD didn’t buy her student season ticket this past spring. With all the Covid stuff going on and being sent home, she just flat out missed the deadline. Lots of other students didn’t purchase because the season was up in the air. Student season ticket purchases usually open back up in mid August, but we’re not sure that will happen this time around. She’s senior this year and will be super bummed if she can’t go to any games.

The American Athletic Conference hasn't made any announcements yet, but the SEC and ACC announcements give some hope.

I have no idea how they plan to keep the athletes safe, but money talks.

Wisconsin announced that they would play Big Ten Conference games only. I have season tickets, but I am not holding my breath that I will set foot in Camp Randall. I don't see how they can social distance the 50K season ticket holders, most of which (like me) paid for tickets back in May.

Ohio State has announced that they would limit attendance to 20% of their capacity (so, about 20,000 fans).

Espn/Disney will do everything it can to keep the power 5 conferences from cancelling the upcoming football season. This is a $4 bullion dollar business. The universities count on this money for a variety of reasons.

Sorry to say student safety is last on the list. I expect to get yelled at for this post. Money comes first because if it didn't the season would already be cancelled.

If Disney won't even clean your room and cancelled dinning plans using covid 19 for the reason then they don't have a leg to stand on.

Public schools are closing for in person learning and major universities are going on line so I feel comfortable in saying money rules.

Looks like UConn is the first FBS team to cancel the upcoming season. I wonder how many more will follow?

LSU is going to go down kicking and screaming. While I feel they have a solid plan I just don't see how it will work.

One of our LBs had the virus and dropped 30 pounds because he could not smell or taste food.

The SEC doesn't care at all if the players get it. They actually told them, "some of you will get it."

It's sad the kids don't matter. Shame on the power 5.

I don't think that they are saying that the kids don't matter when they say, "some of you will get it." They are being brutally honest, and giving those kids the information and the right to opt out without losing a season of eligibility or their scholarship.

Better to be brutally honest than do what is being done at Colorado State - asking the kids to hide it.

I wonder how many subtle threats are made to student-athletes about opting out. The real question is whether it's safe to play. The ACC just sat the bands down for the year.

As hard as schools recruit players, I wouldn't expect them to try to bully them into playing. It's too easy for the player to simply transfer to another school

On the bands, did the ACC shut them down, or put restrictions on them?

The AAC is going to allow them to perform in the stands (socially distanced) but not on the field pre-game or for half-time shows. That actually makes no sense to me -- seems easier to socially distance on the field than in the stands... :crazy2: -- but I don't make the rules.

"The U" (University of Miami) has announced their 2020 revised schedule. Waiting anxiously for UCF to announce...

Ha yes, got the email this morning and came back to check this thread! I just really don’t see how they can do it, but I don’t think they’re ready to admit that yet. Right now they’re set up for either remote learning OR some in-person classes to supplement online. If the school was all online and the players were the only ones on campus, like the NBA “bubble”, then maybe, but then every other school they play would have to do the same. Since they aren’t, this is going to turn into the MLB quickly.

If they play, and that is a big if, it should be in empty stadiums just like Baseball and other sports right now. I don't think it will go well but we will see.
