The Upcoming College Football Season

I don't have the link but it is looking like the Big 10 may punt the season according to ESPN. If one OR does the rest will likely follow.

I think all power 5 conferences are going to announce the same thing. ETA: All fall sports, what a bummer, was really looking forward to Volleyball.

Kind of cool to see the players kind of coming together and giving their opinions on things. Sort of gives us a new narrative than what we have been led to believe.

Voting to postpone makes sense to me. Wishful thinking, being in denial or optimistic rhetoric isn't going to make covid19 go away. With a contact sport like football, not sure it is safe to play or even practice during a pandemic. Only a small % of those who play any college sport ever go on to do that as a career. Playing sports on a scholarship as a way to help pay for college is fine, but the threat of serious illness and/or unknowingly spreading the virus to others remains a very real possibility.

BTW, that's the school officials and not the players deciding. Apparently Trevor Lawrence has started #WeWantToPlay on Twitter.

ETA: N/M thought Trevor was a junior lol.

I mean, maybe he should have declared for the draft instead of being salty about being owned in the championship? :rolleyes1

Saw this from him this morning:

Classic.

And I edited my OP because I realize he can't declare for the draft yet. :)

somehow, I don't think the players will have a voice in this decision. Take a look at what's happening with baseball. One person gets it and the whole team will have it by the end of the week.

The financial ramifications of this are going to be huge. People are going to lose jobs which will lead to so many other problems. My own son is a raising senior who has committed to a D1 school to play football. His future conference postponed this weekend. His coach called to tell us that they are still committed to him. Trevor Lawrence is not wrong with what he is saying. Some students are in a much better situation on campus than they would be at home. My daughters colleges are postponing all sports to the spring. The competition for the fields is going to be crazy. We may have 10pm games to attend. This really makes me very sad as I live for college football on Saturdays. My son is probably not going to be able to play any of his sports his senior year (Football, Basketball and Lacrosse). I can only hope that things will get better as move toward the Spring.

I am preparing myself for battle with the LSU ticket office. They have 5k of our money and I know they are not going to make it easy to get it back. They wouldn’t extend the deadline to buy, which happened to be the same week everything closed down here. First time it’s been that early, too. We pay a hefty donation to the athletic fund in order to buy the tickets. I doubt we will get it back, since they probably spent it already.

We are packed in like sardines in Tiger Stadium. I just don’t know how they can do it.

Several weeks ago Ohio State offered us refunds on our tickets, Parking pass, cushioned seats, and our $10k donation to buy a parking pass. The seven figures we gave them to buy tickets each year many years ago is not a pro rated refund option. We opted to roll it all over into next year. If next year does not happen either the we will request a refund.

We were able to request a full refund thankfully.

We also rolled over our Badger Football tickets. They asked that we donate the money to them and we declined.

Are your seats really good? Those are some steep donation fees! Am
I reading that right? They charged you over $1 million just for the opportunity to buy tickets? :faint:

I admit, I’m cheap. We have seats in the corner of the upper deck with no required ticket fees. The view is good from up there and we can see the plays develop. I’m just a fan and regular alumni. I know some alumni that are former players and members of the W Club who pay as much as you do if not more. College sports can be expensive.

Edited: we also had the opportunity to get a refund but chose to roll it over. We did the same with our Cubs season tickets.
