It wasn't an official date night....it was a 50th birthday party for one of my cousins....but there wasn't any cake!

INTRODUCTION

Why “Unofficial”?

The author of this PTR (me) was lacking motivation to write yet another pre-trip report. But I knew a lot of my DIS friends wanted to know the details of my upcoming family trip so I had to figure out a way that would help me get going and keep going with a PTR over the next 6 months! Then it hit me like a bolt of lightening in an afternoon Florida storm. The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World! I would model my PTR after that guidebook….and make fun of some the stuff in it. And I’ll go back a bit in history picking out things in the UG that have changed because Disney had changed. Well that part isn’t going to be as exciting or neat as I had hoped. I really thought I had kept my 2001 and 2005 editions…..I can not find them in this house for the life of me. I remember one edition had oranges on the front cover that formed a hidden Mickey. I mean the Jim Hill carp in those books should give me enough material to poke fun at until 2011!
Here’s one of his gems of “inside information” from the 2007 edition:

“Through Voyage of the Little Mermaid is still one of Disney-MGM’s most popular attractions, this live stage show will be closing for good sometime in 2007.”

Oh really Mr. Jim, I saw it in 2009 and will see it again in 2011.

And just to clarify…..I love the Unofficial Guide, and touringplans.com (I subscribe!) and the Podcast that one of the authors is on (WDW Today). I just scratch my head at some of the stuff in that book.

Here’s me (Heidi) and my DH (John). It’s an old picture but why put up a horrible new picture when I can put up this old cute one?

I’m the CVO* of the family. I do all the planning, organizing, and strategizing for our Disney trips. I’m 37; work one day a week as a bookkeeper and the rest of the time I stay home the kids. I’ve been to WDW 6 times (Disneyland once).
*Chief Vacation Officer - and yes I stole that from another DISer.

DH is a 34 year old Engineer, great Dad and husband. John has been to Disney 4 times (3 times with me, once as a kid). His only requests this trip were to go to ‘Ohana’s and to have some pool time. Check. And Check.

Here’s Liam! Our 3 year old son. He’s been to WDW once at age 17 months. (if you don’t count the time he hitched a ride to Disney inside me!) He LOVES Playhouse Disney, Cars and Buzz!

You’ll hear more about Liam when we get to the planning stuff….He shapes the how and why things are planned a certain way for this trip.

Here’s Danica!! She is almost 16 months old and is a nut! She was a hitchhiker too…but this will be her first real trip to WDW. She loves to dance and her eyes light up when she see a Princess in a pretty dress.

She’s wearing my favorite CBR hat.


UG funny: Page 3, 2011 ed. A reader wrote in to the UG “I wish you’d discuss restrooms more in the next edition. I found myself constantly searching for one”

Well we know Jordan didn’t write that! LOL I hope this reader has found the DIS by now and has read Jordan’s bathroom reviews!
