Did you read the Sweet Valley Twins Books or Baby Sitters Club?

For all the Sweet Valley fans: Who was your favorite Sweet Valley Twin/High character? For Babysitters Club fans: Who was your favorite BSC character?

For SVH, it had to be Jessica. She was snobby but she made me laugh. I remember the line 'I am woman hear me roar, as we lay on Enid's floor' I always liked her diaries better than Liz's. And I was always her in the board game because she always got to go first!

As for BSC: had to be a tossup between Stacey and Dawn. Stacey was little miss fashionista and she just seemed cool to me when I was younger lol. And Dawn had this laidback vibe and that's totally me now :cool2:

My favorite Sweet Valley character was Jessica and my favorite BSC member was Claudia. Claudia had the wildest fashion sense ever!

My favorite Sweet Valley character was Jessica and my favorite BSC member was Claudia. Claudia had the wildest fashion sense ever!

My fave BSC has to be Stacey with Claudia as a close 2nd.

Wow! I can't believe I haven't seen this thread until now! I was a huge fan of both series when I was a kid. I remember thinking that Kidkits (is that what they were called?...I don't think I've even thought of that word in almost 20 years...yikes) were the best idea ever!

I was probably around 12 when I was reading the SVH series and I really thought that high school was gonna be so cool!:rotfl2:

This thread is a hoot!

Hi everybody! I'm back from out favorite place on earth and it was WONDERFUL! :lovestruc

It'll take me another couple days to deal with the washing, sorting, putting things away, and photopass organization, all whilst working and taking care of the DD5, BUT I'll try my best! :laundy:

THANK YOU Tiggerfan1 for your siggie! Adorable! I'll def. be adding it to mine v. soon.

As for trivia......Fave SVT character- hands down, Jessica for me. I was def. more like Elizabeth in nature, but always loved reading about Jessica's escapades and the messes she got herself into. :upsidedow

Fave BSC character- tough one, I liked Stacy a lot- maybe even the most.

OK, gotta go update the PTR, and get back too all this stuff to do so I can get back to my fave pasttime- the DIS!

I hope you're having a great time at WDW. Say hi to Tigger for me!

Me three.

Hey, when do we get to talk about boys, clothes and makeup? :rotfl: Just kidding. Since our thread mother is gone, I'll try to get a discussion going.
For all the Sweet Valley fans: Who was your favorite Sweet Valley Twin/High character? For Babysitters Club fans: Who was your favorite BSC character?

My favorite Sweet Valley character was Mandy Miller. Even though she was a Unicorn, she wasn't snobby like some of the other girls were. She became my favorite character after I read the book Mandy Miller Fights Back. It was really inspiring to see how she remained strong and optimistic even though she had cancer. It was one of the only SVT books that made me cry.

For BSC, it was definitely Dawn. She seemed cool, but not TOO cool for me like Stacy was. :rotfl:

Wow, for Sweet Valley, I don't remember much besides Jessica and Elizabeth! I was still in elementary school (6th grade I think) when I started reading the SVH books. One of the first ones I read was called "Playing with Fire" and it REALLY opened my eyes to high school dating relationships. I'd have to say Jessica was my favorite since she was such a "bad" girl. ;)

BSC: Stacy, for sure!
SV: Elizabeth

I hope everyone is having a great week!

Julez: Welcome back, glad you had a wonderful time!!

Ooh ooh, can I join? I used to own quite a few SVH books, and all of the BSC books. Unfortunately, lost all of my BSC books to a yard sale a few years ago. Wish my mom would have held on to those a little longer. They could be worth some money someday! lol Or at least they would have been fun to flip back through right about now. Oh, and I also started my own BSC when I was in middle school. Alas, like many of you, it just didn't take off. So sad. ;)

Took the What BSC Character are you quiz... turns out I'm Mallory. Which kinda surprised me. I totally thought I would be Kristy. Or maybe Dawn. Ah well.

I just skimmed the last 9 pages, and things that popped out at me... Punky Brewster! I love me some Punky Brewster!

Ummm... for whoever was wondering if the twins in the SVH tv series was actually a set of twins, indeed they were. Brittany and Cynthia Daniels. I think Brittany still pops up now and then. Or maybe it's Cynthia... lol

I get the feeling that I'm a little younger than most of you (I'm 25, graduated HS in 2001), but I hope I'm accepted!! :goodvibes

Fave BSC character - man! that's hard.... I would say Dawn
Fave SVH character - Elizabeth

Julez, you know you crack me up completely! Of course I will join because I was a huge Sweet Valley High fan and because I will join any group that you start! :rotfl:

Now get that TR started, Woman! :lmao:

When I was younger, I wished that I could be in the Unicorn Club and I even went through a "purple clothes" phase. :upsidedow I guess this is my chance to fulfill a childhood dream.

Can you believe I DID start a "Unicorn Club" in 5th grade? Of course, right?! I mean, I started this one! :rotfl:
Weekly "dues" were 25 cents. I was the President, and the 'initiation' was to run down the hall during recess after lunch when the lunch aide wasn't looking! :lmao:

Purple is the color of royalty! :lmao: oh, i miss my childhood

Yes, Purple IS the color of royalty, donchaknow! :wizard:

I'm in, I'm a BSC girl!

Hi Kath! :wave2:

oh my god, i am 100% in. i think i read every single one of both of those series...

Weren't they awesome? :cloud9:

OK, HUGE BSC fan here, and I haven't read the whole thread, but I wanted to say hold on to your books! My DD11 and I have been looking for some, because I told her how much I loved those books, and they no longer sell them new anywhere. :( I wish I knew what happened to mine. I think I had ALL of them up to about 100 or so before I lost interest in it, and then a few more came out.

I have most of my SVT, BSC, some special editions to both series, The Fabulous Five, Girl Talk, and The Sleepover Friends. Also a couple high school ones, "The Popular Club" and some others that escape me momentarily.

What's crazy is that my dog had diabetes. I was telling my mom this for months because he kept drinking water like crazy and was still always thirsty and he was losing weight. And sure enough he was diagnosed with it and we had to give him insulin shots. How did I know this before anybody else noticed? Because of Stacy from the BSC! That's how I learned the warning signs. Weird.

I learned so much from those books. Diabetes from Stacy in BSC. Radio station stuff (of all things!) from Girl Talk, Mensa from Claudia's sis in BSC.

I didn't notice this post when I first read through this thread. I am a BIG Anne of Green Gables fan!! It's nice to see another "kindred spirit". :)

I always loved that term as well. Kindred Spirit's are hard to find, but totally worth it. :thumbsup2

Hey all! I found this link that has a whole bunch of quizzes about different books in the BSC series. Try some and see if you get stumped!

http://www.funtrivia.com/quizzes/for_children/kid_lit_authors_l_-_z/ann_martin.html

Wow, I took one and I got TOTALLY stumped! It made me want to go back and read them all over again! :rotfl:

Tigger: Thanks for making and sharing the unicorn banner! Sigg up, Unicorn club!!

I hope you're having a great time!!

Oh, I did! I SOOOOO DID!

OMG!!! I loved the BSC and SVH!! Count me in

:welcome: You're IN!

Yes! That series was by Betsy Haynes. Actually, there were a couple...they started with the Taffy Sinclair books and moved on to the Fabulous Four (Five?). It was a really good series! I found some last summer at a used book store and bought them for my classroom. They were really cheap, and I couldn't resist!

Oh, I looooooooved these as well. I still have quite a few of the Fabulous Five books and I did read the original Taffy Sinclaire books as well.

I found this thread late. Count me in

Consider yourself counted!

Oh my! Please include me in this thread. I have all the BSC books. Yes, all of them. :goodvibes And all the super specials. Yup, I'm a geek. But I'm ok with it. And I have a ton of the Sweet Valley High books too! What can I say, I was and remain a reader.

:wave2: Hi Hula girl! I'm a geek, and I'm totally OK with it! Heck, I even cried and laughed my way through the final Harry Potter book and DH just shook his head in dismay. I looooove to read. The only thing anymore is the time to do so.... :sad2:

ha ha! yes! I have a bunch of those still! That was the Fabulous Five and their rivals were the Fantastic Foursome :goodvibes

You beat me to it!

This thread is a welcome distraction. I had to have my kitty put down on Sunday and I'm having a horrible time with it. I'm so miserable.

OMG. The Sweet Valley University books were crazy! Pretty risque, actually! :scared1:

I'm soooo sorry about your kitty, that's so sad! :sad1:

And I agree, SVU was really racy!

I remember making the braided ones....I never got good enough (never practiced enough) for the other ones.

I made those but they took too long. Bah. And when I was a much older hippie I graduated to hemp bracelets! :lmao:

Holy smokes, I LOVED Baby Sitters Club & Sweet Valley High........The super editions were the best....remember the one where they were all camp counselors? Made me want to go to summer camp! As I got older I'd always go into the bookstore just to read the backs of the new books and see how far they got and what was going on. Soooo now I'm feeling to urge to look for some used copies!!

I toooooootaly wanted to go to summer camp and was so sad there was seemingly no such thing where we lived in the midwest. I always used to look in the back of my "Teen" magazine and moon over the ads for art camps and music camps and fat camps and wish I could go!

Talked to hubby about an hour ago and he's just learned that he's being layed of as of Dec. 31. This is not what we needed. We were already both working 2 jobs just to try to get out of debt and put some money in savings. And he doesn't really have the option of picking up more hours at his part-time job.

I'm soooo sorry to hear this, Kelleigh! My thoughts are with you! DH's best friend is about to be laid off as well. :sad2:

I have read all of SVT, SVH, and the BSC series. I started them when I was in high school and couldn't put them down.

I could never put them down. I used to get them for Christmas and Birthdays and get them taken away for not doing my homework!

OK, everybody, as Rora said, SIG UP! Tiggerfan1 made a cute Unicorn Club siggie. I'm gonna try to make or find a BSC one and SVH one as well. Anyone wanna try to find the college SVU insignia?

On a personal note, I'm SOOO high on Disney right now! So happy and content after our trip. If this is always what it feels like after taking your family to Disney, sign me up for at LEAST once a year! Also, DH discussed moving in the next year with DS's mom, turns out the only thing keeping their family here was US! As the only thing keeping us here was THEM they said, heck, let's all move! So, she has to finish her Masters to get nationally certified to be a principal next summer, and he'll be nationally certified w/cable next month. I'm nationally certified as a Medical Assistant, and my DS's step-dad is a laborer and freelance artist. SOOO.... we might me closer to the Land or the World within the next couple of years!   :cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9:

Big happy news here! We all hate midwest Illinois. It's so damn cold and the summer is so dang short. I'm not saying I want NO winter or change of seasons, but more mild would be wonderful. So please, if you love where you live, weather-wise, and economy-wise, PM me where that is, because we're all gonna be looking in the next year!

In club news, I changed the thread name slightly and will continue to do so from time to time. The basic Unicorn, BSC will stay the same. We've had so many folks chime in I don't want it to become so big and overwhelming that our crew become discouraged, kwim? Also updated the members list the best I could as well. Which was seriously tough. If I left you out, or you want me to add your real name, let me know by posting or PM,k?

Oh, I was a huge BSC fan as a kid! My dad actually took them away for a few days as a punishment once. Heck, I even tried to start a BSC of my own but it didn't take off, lol!

I didn't really get into the Sweet Valley ones and only read a few until the Sweet Valley University books came out. I loved that series and owned every one of them. I am still kicking myself for getting rid of them after I got married as I wish I would have saved them in case my dd would have liked them someday too.

Btw, I wasn't born till the beginning of '81 but I am pretty sure I still qualify. ;)

LOL.... so you can be like Mallory or Jessie... no baby-sitting on your own, youngin'!

And I also used to be punished with books being withheld. Boy, talk about lame, eh?! :rotfl:

:welcome:

Oh my gosh! Just found this thread! BSC
forever baby! LOL :lmao:

I esp loved the Super Special when they all went to Disney World.

I'm re-reading it, thanks to this thread! :rotfl2: :wave2: Welcome!

Wow! I can't believe I haven't seen this thread until now! I was a huge fan of both series when I was a kid. I remember thinking that Kidkits (is that what they were called?...I don't think I've even thought of that word in almost 20 years...yikes) were the best idea ever!

This thread is a hoot!

Right?! I swear I lived my high school days in a dreamy version of SVH and the other books like "Cheerleaders" I was reading. I must've seemed so bizarre!

For BSC, it was definitely Dawn. She seemed cool, but not TOO cool for me like Stacy was. :rotfl:

I read that one too! :rotfl2: Must've had a rep for some serious how-to!

BSC: Stacy, for sure!
SV: Elizabeth

I hope everyone is having a great week!

Julez: Welcome back, glad you had a wonderful time!!

Thanks!

I never got to see that series. It was on some strange station we couldn't get. And I loooooved Punky! I looked up Brittany Daniels on Wiki and turns out she was also on Swans Crossing! Crazy! Anyone watch that one?

Julez, you know you crack me up completely! Of course I will join because I was a huge Sweet Valley High fan and because I will join any group that you start! :rotfl:

Now get that TR started, Woman! :lmao:

CP! LOL..... Hi Jackie, shoulda known you'd be an SVH fan- I bet Jess was your fave, right? What with trying your hand at being a bad girl and all in high school..... :rotfl:

Can you believe I DID start a "Unicorn Club" in 5th grade? Of course, right?! I mean, I started this one! :rotfl:

:rotfl: :rotfl2: :lmao: That's awesome!! I never started a Unicorn Club (I don't know why ) but I did start a "Queens of 6th grade" club that was short-lived. Having weekly dues was a great idea. I wish I had thought of that!

OMG. Move to FL!! I live in Sunny South Fl where the coldest it ever gets is about 50 degrees. The beach is 5min from my house and I'm about 2 1/2 hours from Disney World..:yay:.

Hmm.. why doesn't every member move to South Florida? :woohoo: :cool1:

Rora and Julez- I would love to move to FL! I hate the cold weather. I like snow for the first 15 minutes...look! So pretty! Then, I am so over it!
hula- Being a reader is a good thing! I was never one to go to bed early, so my mom always says she was so happy when I could read. She put a book light on my headboard and didn't have to worry about me!
tig and julez- I did have a BSC, but when I was youner, I belonged to The Boopets. We wore Betty Boop clothes, had dues, and intiations (drinking a naty cocotion). However, our main goal was just being mean byexcluding other girls. Ah, kids are so sweet!

Anyway, I've been MIA with midterms and a test at work (I am a server at a high end place and we have tests we have to study for-food, wine, service, etc.). Now, I'll be gone for a long weekend. My sister is getting married in TN this weekend! What will I do without the Dis?!?
