~*~ Christmas in California ~*~
Part V
Time for some Tigger souvenir pics!
Here's the front and back of the Tigger jacket.
Here are my Tigger pins. Aren't they cute?
All right, now let's move on to the San Francisco portion of our trip. I must warn you in advance that most of my pictures will be borrowed. Most of the pictures that I took while we were in SanFran were of our family and friends. I would prefer not to post those on the internet. It's just a personal preference. Anyway..........
Hi ho, hi ho, it's on the road we go! Bye bye, LA. Hello, SanFran! Hi ho, hi ho!
I thought it would be nice to have some background music for this portion. Here's a famous 60s song called,
San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair). Ironically, we heard this song on the radio as we were
leaving San Francisco.

Please click on the link below. (Sorry, Jenny, I know you can't hear this song. If you know this song, just sing it to yourself while you read this. If you don't know this song, just sing "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" instead.

After a big breakfast, we left Anaheim on Sunday morning and headed to San Francisco. We went up the long, boring 5 freeway, which is the quickest route to SanFran. The 101 freeway is a much more scenic route, but it takes a lot longer. We had heard that it had snowed in certain parts of Southern/Central California. We found that hard to believe. Boy, were we wrong! When we had been on the road for a couple of hours, we saw snow on the surrounding hills and on the sides of the road. Someone had even made a snowman!

I got several shots of the snow from the car. (Fortunately, my has a feature where you can take pictures while they're moving.) Here are a couple of them.
Geez, "snow" at Disneyland and real snow on the 5 freeway! Forget global warming! I think the real problem is global
cooling!

(Please don't send me nasty comments or PMs defending global warming. Thanks.)
As we were driving along, I happened to see something that only we Unicorns would get excited about. In the lane next to us, I saw a
PURPLE car. Not eggplant or deep violet, but bright, in-your-face purple!! It was a cute little car with a license plate frame that said, "The Purple Princess". When I took a peek at the driver, I saw that it was a lady who was probably in her 60s. And guess what? She was wearing purple!

I don't know who that lady was, but she is definitely my hero. I want to be like her when I'm in my 60s. She must have been "the little old lady from Pasadena"! Go granny, go granny, go granny, go!!

I wanted to take a picture of the car, but she soon got too far ahead of us. I would have felt a little funny taking a picture of someone else's car anyway. That was really cool, though!
The gas was at the halfway point and we were all getting hungry, so we decided to stop to fill the tank and our stomachs. We got really excited when we saw a rest stop that had gas stations and an............. IN-N-OUT!!!
For those of you who are unfamiliar this this place, In-n-Out is a famous California burger place. In my opinion, they have the BEST hamburgers, cheeseburgers and fries. All the burgers are cooked to order and the fries are made from freshly-cut potatoes. The taste is out of this world. I always get the #2 (cheeseburger, fries and a drink) with no onions. One bite and, "Heaven.........I'm in heaven.........and my heart beats so that I can hardly speak.........and I seem to find the happiness I seek......."

After I finished eating, I realized that I had completely forgotten to take a picture of my food.

I must share my love of In-n-Out, so here are a couple of borrowed pictures.
Is anyone else drooling on their keyboard besides me?

You all need to get your butts to California just so you can try this burger. Seriously.
A few hours later, we finally arrived in San Francisco.
One of our long-time friends invited us to stay at his house. We are very close to his family (he's got a HUGE family), too. We had dinner and talked for a while. We were all really tired from our drive, so we really just wanted to relax. However, we didn't really get a chance to. Our friend told us that his family was really excited to see us again and they were all coming over within the hour.

I wish that he had told us that before we came, but.....oh, well. We really didn't feel up to it at first, but once they all came over, we forgot all about being tired. They are such a fun family and it was so nice to see them all again.
During our stay in San Francisco, we mostly visited friends and family. Consequently, we didn't really get a chance to do any sightseeing. I apologize for the lack of San Francisco scenery pics. In order to spare you all the details of our visits with friends, here's a Cliffs Notes version of what happened while we were in SanFran:
-On our first full day in SanFran, we relaxed and spent time with our host.
-The next day, we saw some of our old friends and went to dinner. Earlier in the day, we went the famous Mitchell's ice cream shop. They are known for having exotic flavors like mango and lychee. I can't eat ice cream in cold weather, so I didn't try it. The rest of my family loved it, though! I definitely want to try it the next time we're in town (if it's not too cold).
-The next day we saw my dear, sweet Nana. We spent most of the day with her. Her sister made a huge pot of her famous gumbo for us. (They're originally from Louisiana). It was sooooooo good!
-On Christmas day, we spent the entire day with our host and his family. They always have a big family get-together on Christmas (as well as every other holiday) and, of course, we were invited to attend the party. There was so much food!!! It was all really delicious. We were entertained by the musically-talented people in their family, exchanged gifts, and ate to our hearts' content. In short, we had a grand, old time!
-The next day, we packed up our things, said goodbye to our host and San Francisco, and drove back down to Los Angeles. We had to catch a 5 am flight the next day, so we decided to stay in a hotel near the airport overnight. I couldn't believe that it was already time to leave. Our trip went by so quickly! Even though we were sad to leave, we were looking forward to recuperating at home after our whirlwind trip. I was so tired when I got home that I promptly changed into my pajamas and went straight to sleep.
Thanks for the memories, California! We'll be back again soon.
