The Ultimate Stomach Bug @ Disney Thread

we returned last night 12/14- 12/23. My son started vomiting late Thursday night through friday afternoon. He complained of terrible stomach pains for the next three days and had bad diarhea as well no one else had stomach issues so it may have been food related, since the stomach virus things usually spread like wildfire and no one else had it?, Both i and my daughter had a horrible case of bronchitis though.
We always say why spend on a nicer hotel...when we are rarely in it. Well I spent a lot of time in my room at the POP this trip and let me tell you it was filthy. The carpets left my socks nearly black, the bedspreads smelled and the walls were gross, stained and splattered with who knows what. I also noticed the food court area was very dirty the booths and carpeting were awful. I don't know why they carpet those areas where so many people are eating and spilling food.
I have been to WDW many times on property most often at the values..........NEVER Again.
Though I did find a wonderful Doctor at Buena Vista Urgent Care who accepted my ins. and was super accomodating during my visit and helping me get prescriptions!

argh this is making me nervous. i leave in about 11 days. i am hoping things die down by then!

We've been here since the 19th...no one has been sick and we are at SSR (one of the resorts that is supposed to have the worst outbreak). Of course, we have eaten most of our meals in the villa. I've only seen or heard one instance of sickness (vomit in the parking lot at the Studios).

DD had to be taken to Florida Hospital-Celebration because she was so sick. This was Dec7. Couldn't hold down anything in her stomach. Kept throwing up and having diahorrea. It was not pretty. We spent the entire evening in the emergency room. What an ordeal.

So sorry to hear that. Were you by chance staying at Akv? We overheard someone talking to the housekeeper about their sick daughter and we saw EMT's there twice during the beginning of our week 12/05-12/13.

We're in MI and that virus shut down a college to the north and a school to the west of us.

We made our reservations last week and the CM said there was a bit of sickness going around so make sure to wash hands etc....

I'm named Monk around here cause I always have the hand sanitizers and wipes. I too spray down everything in the room from the phone to the light switches to the door knobs, toilet seats if it can be sprayed it gets it and I don't let my kids walk around without socks on in the rooms too and they never go anywhere bare foot.

Once we get into the room I go in and spray everything and no one can touch anything for at least 10 minutes to that the stuff has a chance to work. Every time we come back to the room I do that.

We even have taught the kids that when in a public restroom to take paper towel and use that to turn the water faucet on and off and if you have to touch the door to get out then they have to use hand sanitizer once out of the bathroom. Same when they get off rides and wash up before eating.

According to the CDC hand sanitizer needs to be spread on so thick that it stays wet while rubbing your hands together for at least a minute and it has to be more then 62% alcohol.

Also with bags/purses many people thrown them all over the place, set them on the floors of rides, the ground, bathroom floors etc. then will set them on tables to get out money or look for something and throw them on beds and forget just what those things have been sitting on prior to and all that ick :scared: gets on the surfaces you're eating off of and sleeping on. Once it hits the floor it stays on the floor.

I did not get it, neither did my DD but DH and DS were hit HARD by it we went Nov 4-10 and the vomiting etc. started on the evening of the 7th and lasted through the 10th- UGH!

I just ordered my Clorox Germicidal wipes from Amazon. I know that it's not a 100% guarantee that we won't get sick, but at least it's something to help protect us.

I am also one of "those people". Lysol and Clorox wipes are on my packing list. I always clean everything as soon as I arrive. I can't help it, I have a vomit phobia! I'll run from any sick person, even my kids! If someone is sick in my family, they get quarantined in their bedrooms. :guilty: (I really do love my family!)

Your not alone, I am a vomit phobe too and i can't stand the thought of someone vomiting around me. Not even my kids.....i run for the hills! Now I'm worried about all the germs at Disney, I'll be there 1/4-1/10. Ugh!!!! Pray for us will ya!

We were at the WDW from the dec 5-17. We also use a lot of hand sanitizer. I clorox every thing in the room from the phone and remote to the door and cabinet handles. DH also washes every table before we sit down to eat. The only buffet we ate at was Boma and we hand sanitize after going through the line and touching all those spoons. Thankfully we made through but everyone here in Wi has some version of it. I hope we can steer clear here as well.

Just be sure to wash your hands over and over again (for at least 45 seconds with heavy scrubbing and lots of soap). Do not touch your nose, mouth or nose as that will put any germs right into your body.

Also, be sure if you eat at a buffet to wash your hands AFTER you visit the food area. Tons of people touch the those utensils daily and germs are spread so quickly that way. If you are at a sit down restaurant, get up and wash your hands AFTER you order. The menu is also touched by many people!!

Eughh we leave on Tuesday and I am hoping that we are all fine!!!

Stay healthy everyone! :)

We just got back on Sunday...none of us were affected by the stomach virus, but my sister and I do have colds now. Don't know if it's because of the virus or going from 80 degrees to zero degrees. :confused3

10 Good Things About Catching the Flu at WDW:

1. No one wants to come near you - wards off those pesky Brazilian Tour Group and Pop Warner trouble makers!

2. You can legally take sedatives - imagine how the TTA would "come alive" with new, exciting features!

3 You realize that WDW waterway maintenance crews (who fish out the rubbish that falls in) still have a worse than you do (sorry gents!)

4. You get away with being rude, obnoxious and surly, even to Scrooge McDuck!

5. You can smell like a King Louie's butt and nobody complains.

6. You can shlep about the resort unwashed and in your Mickey ears all day, and most will think you're sane.

7. No matter how bad you feel, it's still better than how you felt after last month's tequila 'n' gin Cast Member party.

8. Annoying "Stacy" re-runs on your resort TV (wait, that's a bad thing!)

9. That perky CM in the Minnie garb is probably suffering along with you, inside a 120 degree sweat box!

10. You get to pass the virus on to any wheeled vehicle operators (strollers, segways, ECVs, Magical Express, Resort Bus...) that might have gleefully run over your toes!

we have been here for five days and have seem not signs of any major stomach flu= also DNiece works at HS and lives on property and said she has not seen or heard about it so though it sounds awful does not seem to be widespread

Halleluiah!!! We'll be there 1/4-1/10. I just pray I don't have to fly home ill!!!!! That to me would be the worst!

My sister and her family got back yesterday and she was up all night last night with a sick kid- vomiting and diarrhea!

Not only is the Noro virus going around WDW...but chicken pox/shingles as well.

A family member had her face painted at Magic Kingdom recently and the next day she had shingles on her face in the same pattern as the face paint! Talk about pain! :scared:

Never let your kids do face painting at WDW, they don't properly sanitize the brushes!

What resorts are having the biggest outbreaks now? We are going back next week and staying at PORFQ. Thinking about changing to a deluxe resort this time to avoid the outbreak!
